Season of Ghosts

Please direct all OOC chatter here!

Silver Crusade

Kitsune paladin (sacred servant) of Sarenrae 6 | HP 55/55 | AC 19, T 16, FF 14 | F: +11 R: +11, W: +9 | Perc +0 | Init +9

After seeing the description in Gameplay and seeing what others were suggesting they would bring, I'll bring this character. She's a GM baby all ready to be taken out of the wrapper. I'm really excited about her character concept, although she was unplayable until level 3 due to being a paladin with strength 8...

Season of Ghosts

Huzzah! I'm looking forward to seeing her in action :)

Grand Lodge

GM Ladile- I really don't have a preference and can play either a level 4 cleric or level 4 wizard (fire). I will see what other folks are bringing and attempt to fill in what the party needs.

Grand Lodge

male Human Cleric 6, HP 50/52, AC 21, T 13, FF 18, F +7, R +6, W +9, Initiative +1, Perception +7

grimdog73 here...a wizard would be cool...round out the party...

Dark Archive

CN Male human Wizard 4 (fire) Init +3; Senses Perception +0. AC 14 (13 touch). HP 30. Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +4 Resist fire 5

Looks like it will be the Varisian Fire Mage for the win!

Kyras is ready to go! Thank you for the invite, and i look forward to the game!

Welcome everyone. Bringing a 5th level Shaman (Speaker of the Past) that is going for Harrower.

Silver Crusade

Checking in as requested. May I ask a PFS rules question to which I've found conflicting answers online?

Season of Ghosts

Sure, ask away!

Sure, ask away!

I'm working from the last PFS 1st edition Roleplaying Guide. It concerns pages 20 and 21 and item availability. The way I read the document it seems my character is able to purchase a +1 Cold Iron Nodachi which costs 4,420 GP as all of the elements (Nodachi, Cold Iron, Masterwork, and +1) are on the 'Always Available Items' section on page 21. When I did a Google search to confirm if I am correct I noticed several people posting that Table 4-1 on page 20 dictates the total *value* of any item a character of that Fame can own. If that's the case then my character would need 18 Fame before buying the sword. I don't think they are correct but would like to know what you guys think.

Silver Crusade

I also changed my avatar name to close to my email address so it's still me to avoid any confusion. :)
Now for questions about PbP and this site. How do I add my character to the 'Characters' tab? Will the GM make all of the rolls for the characters? Do I need to email the GM my character's items owned, Inventory Tracking Sheet, etc.?
Thanks for the help.

Season of Ghosts

No problem!

(1) Re: Fame & Purchases - My understanding agrees with yours. The section on page 21 of the Roleplaying Guild Guide specifically states that you may always purchase +1 weapons, among other things, if you're in an appropriately-sized city or town. Cold Iron as a special material also falls into the 'Always Available' category. So, if you have the money, you're good.

If you're looking to buy something that doesn't fall into the 'Always Available' category, that is when your Fame comes into play. You'd need 13 Fame if you wanted to buy a Rope of Climbing for 3,000 gold, as an example. Or have a Rope of Climbing as an item of loot on a chronicle sheet.

(2) To post 'as' your character, look down underneath the text box that pops up when you go to make a post. There should be a little drop-down box that says, 'Post As' - if you click the drop-down it gives you the option to post as your 'main' alias or as a different alias. Since you've only got your main alias and your one PFS character you should only have the option to post as either Shadow Dragon or as Decimus.

(3) I roll initiatives and passive Perception checks for characters. Saving throws, attack & damage, etc. the players will roll their own, barring unusual circumstances.
______________

Regarding questions about getting your character profile set up, as well as how to navigate things, I want to share a set of Google Slides that one of our GMs set up for PaizoCon 2018.

Getting into the World of Play-by-Post

Some of the notes about setting up maps and such won't be as relevant to you since you're just dipping in your toes in as a player. That said, I think they give a good visual representation of what you'll be looking at as you navigate around games and your own profile and just what the heck all these buttons and tabs are for.

Also, I know it may seem like a lot of information but there's no rush - just go through it as you can and don't hesitate to ask if you come up with more questions :)

Silver Crusade

Okay I think I have most of the character information entered but the slide 'cuts off' towards the bottom of the page and I don't know if/how/where to display what items the character owns. Trajan has 2 Inventory Tracking sheets plus his other mundane gear and I'd rather know what to enter before typing all of that out.
Thanks!

Season of Ghosts

You should be able to input it all under the alias - it's possible to get a lot of information under there, if a person wants. There's not really any one 'standard' way of formatting a character alias for PFS PbP, though.

I tend to do most of my character aliases like this: Soddy Daisy

Others tend to shorthand it more: Annea Clivana

If you have HeroLab, you can just copy + paste the entire profile into the text box: Serge Foxmourn

Ultimately though, as long as I can look at the character sheet in some manner, should I have any questions or need/want to audit, I'm happy. If you've got a copy of the sheet saved somewhere else online (like in Google Docs or on another website) then a link to said sheet will work as well.

Silver Crusade

Okay he's been updated with his class features and the items from his Inventory Tracking Sheets. He has other mundane gear but the most notable would be things like a wrist sheath, three weapon cords, two spell component pouches, and an iron holy symbol. If you want I can type out all of his mundane gear if it's important.
I'm not very proficient/experienced with different computer programs so I have no Google Drive capability as you included on your character for your Chronicle Sheets. The best I can do is scan them in and email them if you'd like to see them.

Season of Ghosts

^That's fine; you've got enough on your sheet for me to work with if need be!

From a quick glance at your character sheet it looks like you've figured out how to Bold text - which is great! Spoken dialogue in PbP is generally written in bolded format, like:

"We have brought you your shrubbery. May we go now?"
______________

Out-of-Character comments (OOC) are formatted in a similar manner: [ooc ]Man, I hope we brought this guy the right shrubbery![/ooc ]

Just close the brackets on the above sentence and you get: Man, I hope we brought this guy the right shrubbery!
______________

Italics are often used to indicate interior monologue or perhaps written text in the form of a letter the PCs might find:

[i ]These Knights are crazy! Who asks for a shrubbery, anyway?[/i ]

And then closing the brackets on the above sentence gets you:

These Knights are crazy! Who asks for a shrubbery, anyway?

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Shoanti) AC 17/FF15/T12, +4/+4/11 (+1 Will vs Enchantment) 48/48 BAB +3 Shaman (Speaker of the past) 5/Harrower 1, Perception+9, Init+2

It is also a good idea to preview your text before you post it. If you look below the "Submit post" option, there is "Need help posting? Check our FAQ." that has some tips. Pay attention to the dice section as it can be real funky if you use the wrong key for the roll. Make sure to use ; and not a ,or : to separate the rolls.

Say you have a +6 attack with a Short Sword and +4 for the damage. If you see the roll in Test 1, take a look at what you have entered. Make sure to use lower case for the d# or you will think that you had crit.

Test 1: 1d20 + 6d6 + 4 ⇒ (14) + (6, 4, 3, 5, 5, 1) + 4 = 42
(d20+6,d6+4)

Test 2 is what it should look like.

Test 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
(d20+6;d6+4)

Upper case D: 20 + 6 = 266 + 4 = 10

Those I was able to pick up but it's the 'Spoiler' formatting that I couldn't get to work. I wanted to have Spoiler tabs like you had on your sample character sheet so everything didn't appear on one page.

Edit:I got it to work.

Season of Ghosts

Alrighty folks, we're just under a week until our official start date of September 1st so it's time to get a few things rolling. First, if you've not already done so, I'll need the following information from each of you:

Player Name:
Character Name:
PFS ID#:
Faction:
Progression Track:
What do you do as a character that's cool or complex?

______________

Other Notes

Please make a note of any purchases that you wish to do prior to scenario start; you'll also have a chance to make additional purchases before the meat of the action kicks off as well.

You may make your Day Job checks now or at the conclusion of the scenario, whichever works best for you.

We will resolve any questions to do with Faction Journal cards at the conclusion of the scenario.

The link to the slide deck we'll be using is now posted at the top of the campaign page as well as on my GM header - this is Table #2 so you'll go to 'Among the Living (Table #2)' link if you're using the link in my header. Please add your details to Slide #2 and your tokens, in preferred marching order, to Slide #3. If you're unable or unsure of how to do this, please let me know and we'll get it sorted.

Please try to check the game at least once or twice a day during the week and at least once during weekends. If your character has nothing to say or contribute to the action in Gameplay, just toss a note here in Discussion to let me know that you're still around and following the game.

If you have any particular 'botting' instructions for your character during combat encounters, please post them on your character profile. Characters that do not have botting information will be put on Delay in the event that the player is unable to post in a timely manner (~24 hours) during a combat round.
______________

Introduction

I believe that I've GMed for most of you at least once before but for those unfamiliar with me, I'm Lady Ladile and I'll be your GM for this adventure. I enjoy the fun and creativity that being a GM allows and I love having players willing to get into the story and interact with it and with each other. So have fun! Be creative!

While I do try my best to run my games in accordance with the rules of Pathfinder and Organized Play, I will occasionally make mistakes. Please don't be afraid to point them out but also please do not assume malicious intent, especially if I get something wrong to the 'detriment' of a character. I'm not that kind of GM. If mistakes are made, we'll get them sorted.

As far as posting rate goes, I generally do my best to adhere to at least 1 or 2 GM posts a day. That said, I work a night shift job in healthcare. My sleep schedule is a hot mess. So...while you're more likely to see posts from me in the evening/late hours CST, you might also see some at high noon or other random times.

And now that basic introductions are out of the way, I want to say that I'm happy to have you all join me and I'm very much looking forward to being your GM for the next several weeks! If you've got any questions about something I've covered in this post (or something I didn't), then please don't hesitate to ask :)

Player Name: Tealk
Character Name: Kyras Isbentall
PFS ID#: 159547-24
Faction: Darch Archive
Progression Track: Normal
What do you do as a character that's cool or complex? He can throw bombs which glue people in place, instead of dealing damage.

Silver Crusade

Player Name: Dan Perez
Character Name: Decimus Gallonica Trajan
PFS ID#: 2369921-1
Faction: Silver Crusade
Progression Track: Normal
(Note: Trajan has no day job)

What do you do as a character that's cool or complex?
One of Trajan's missions is to eliminate the stuffy, stodgy, and gruff preconception many people have of both Paladins and Hellknights by smiling and trying to be pleasant and sociable. However he isn't very adept at reading people so his attempts at 'reaching out' are often mistaken for preaching.

For GM Ladile:

I filled out Sheet #2 except for a token because I don't have one. Where does one get a token or can a generic marker of some kind be used?
Trajan prefers to lead the group in any combat situation but understands he won't be in the lead in a scouting formation.
I should be able to check the PbP twice a day, sometimes more, but if combat comes up and I'm not able to check in, are you okay with running Trajan?

Season of Ghosts

Shadow Dragon:

Tokens can be made for Google Slides using a number of different things but for characters it's common to use the avatar picture that shows up when said character makes a post on the forums.

You can select an avatar for your main profile or an alias by:

(1) My Account
(2) Account Settings (it'll prompt you to sign in again)
(3) Messageboard Settings (for your Main Avatar)
*You'll see a space for 'Avatar Image' and below it, a button to Change Your Avatar
*Clicking the button will take you to where you can search through the available icons for a suitable avatar image
(4) Messageboard Aliases (for your other characters)
*You'll see a list in this section of all the aliases you've created on Paizo
*Next to each alias name, you'll have the option to Make Default or Edit. You'll want to click Edit.
*This will take you to a screen where you can edit things about the Alias such as their Name and their Avatar Image. Clicking to change their Avatar Image will take you to same avatar selection screen as you use to change your primary avatar.

Once you have an avatar set, it's pretty easy to copy it over into Google Slides to use as an icon :)

Season of Ghosts

Going to purchase a courtiers outfit, 50 gp ring and toss in Sleeves of Many Garments for good measure.

Season of Ghosts

^Nice! Those Sleeves can make for a lot of RP fun - and at a reasonable cost, too :)

Sovereign Court

Just picked them up for my vigilante. Since this character is going for Harrower, a mix of wardrobe will come in handy.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Shoanti) AC 17/FF15/T12, +4/+4/11 (+1 Will vs Enchantment) 48/48 BAB +3 Shaman (Speaker of the past) 5/Harrower 1, Perception+9, Init+2

That also reminded me that I have the Harrow feat.
Harrow suit: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Crown. +2 to any d20 Cha roll for the day.
Have the deck of cards and have not had a chance to play face to face with the character in over a year.

Season of Ghosts

^Noted! Just remind me when/if you use it :)

Silver Crusade

Trajan would have purchased the following before the meeting with Eliza (apologies, I thought he already had them):
Kit, Scrivener's 2 GP
Book, Journal 10 GP
Inkpen [5] .5 GP
Ink 8 GP
and the following items after the meeting with Eliza:
Outfit, Courtier's 30 GP
Jewelry 50 GP (per the suggestion in the entry for the Courtier's outfit)
Tabard 5 GP (see below)

For GM Ladile:
Every GM is going to rule differently so I'll need your ruling for this module. The Pathfinder Campaign Setting book 'Path of the Hellknight' has an entry listing the ranks of Hellknights. At the bottom of the rank is Armiger. The text after Armiger states, "A Hellknight in training; a Hellknight squire." The definition of armiger is "one entitled to bear heraldric arms" so Trajan would like to purchase and wear a tabard with the Ennead Star (the symbol of the Hellknights) and the Godclaw symbol to represent he is on the path to become a Hellknight. If that's okay with you Trajan can then suggest possibly using the tabard as a means to possibly bypass any attempts to take the party's equipment since most people don't want to get involved with Hellknights.

Season of Ghosts

No worries on the equipment Trajan; same for everyone else who wishes to pick up some fancy duds and the like :)

Trajan:

To the best of my knowledge - and research - there's no actual rule(s) preventing anyone from purchasing a tabard with the Hellknight sigils and symbols on it, whether they've taken levels in one of the Prestige Classes or not. So sure, I have no problem with you doing this, especially if Trajan is eventually angling to become a Hellknight anyway. It's a nice bit of flavor and character-building.

Season of Ghosts

A bit later on that post than I'd anticipated but there we go! :)

Season of Ghosts

Hey guys, I worked last night and was pretty busy for most of it so I'm a bit pooped this morning. Update to happen later this evening after I've had some sleep!

No worries we'll just blame real life for interfering with our fun! :)

Season of Ghosts

Okay, more like update to happen the next morning...but sometimes a person just needs to take a day to catch up on sleep.
______________

To answer the OOC question from gameplay, since Trajan did so well on the Diplomacy check (and happened to post first) I figured that I'd let him schmooze a bit with some nobles and get a detailed explanation of how the entrances work.

Altavan's Kn. Local check was decent enough so instead of giving him all the same info that Trajan got, I decided to have him notice someone in particular that's in attendance tonight. That said, Kn. Nobility would've also been fine; the guy is technically an appointed government official but one would probably also have to be of noble blood to get such an appointment in the first place. So, Kn. Local and/or Nobility seem equally applicable in this case by my reasoning.

Now...off to work on an update!

Silver Crusade

Okay I wasn't sure if your mention of the person was a hint at making a different Knowledge check to gain more information so that's why I asked and now I know.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Shoanti) AC 17/FF15/T12, +4/+4/11 (+1 Will vs Enchantment) 48/48 BAB +3 Shaman (Speaker of the past) 5/Harrower 1, Perception+9, Init+2

Grand Lodge

Season of Ghosts

Hey guys, I've been feeling a bit run-down lately and have spent a fair bit of my free time sleeping and catching up on sleep. This is my weekend to work though and so I'll aim to get an update done either before I head to work tonight or perhaps later in the evening if my shift isn't too busy. Thanks for your patience!

Grand Lodge

male Human Cleric 6, HP 50/52, AC 21, T 13, FF 18, F +7, R +6, W +9, Initiative +1, Perception +7

More apologies as this is my first PbP game but Kyras has not posted since Sunday, September 13. What's the usual protocol on how long to wait? I notice in his profile he has bot instructions so I guess we know what he wants to do.

Generally during combat I look to either Bot or Delay any PC that hasn't posted within 24 hours~ of being prompted.

If someone vanishes from the game entirely and with no word I try to give them about a week before relegating them to the sidelines for the remainder of the scenario. If someone ends up dropping right at the start of a scenario I'll try to replace them but if someone drops or vanishes halfway through then the rest of the group continues on as-is.

*edit* I do attempt to contact players via PM/email first before making the decision to drop them.

Silver Crusade

Speaking of Wands of Cure Light Wounds, do you want us to roll the healing amount or use a flat amount? In our local PFS games the rule is one charge of a wand of CLW cures 5 HP.

Season of Ghosts

^Apologies, I thought I had already answered this! For my games I'm good with either method (rolling if you feel lucky, taking the average if you don't) but some GMs *do* prefer one or the other so it's definitely always a good idea to ask :)
