Darius charges forward, slashing with the mighty artifact, which proves to be too much for the demon to handle and he falls. The remaining ghouls take little effort, and are easily destroyed once their leader is vanquished.

For everyone except Salvatore, you quickly notice that things have gone eerily silent. The only sound you can hear are your own thoughts, and they feel like they will drive you mad if you have to listen to just them, but, once you step out of the room the sound rushes back in and things return to normal.

Spending the day cleaning, Darius feels a warmth from the blade as his hip. As if the weapon was acknowledging the work of the group.

With the temple cleaned and the spells in place, there is almost a glow about the place, in stark contrast to the surrounding hills and terrain.

Darius:
As the tasks are completed, your vision blurs and you lose any sense of what is around you. Before you stands a towering knight in shining silver armor with sword in hand. A booming voice rings out. "Your strength has been displayed, and your mercy as well. The days to come will test you in these over and over again. You must show the world the power of your faith." The sword extends out towards you, and the tip of the blade touches the haft of Radiance. Flaring with light, the golden weapon glows even brighter than before. Then this image fades away, sight and sound returning to the real world once more.

The group heads back down to meet up with the Knights. As they arrive there is a lot of commotion in the camp. One of the scouts sees you and approaches.

"There was a group of demons that teleported into our midst and attacked. They managed to injure many of the knights and even kill a couple, but they have been defeated. Folks are pitching in healing magic and supplies to aid in the recovery, so we can get everyone back on their feet quickly."

We did find a crate of healing potions at this church. Maybe that will help get them back on their feet quicker. Seems like the gods are watching over us. What do you think guys this crate of cure light wound potions would go far in helping the knights.

"Sorry to hear that occurred in our absence. We found the church desecrated by demons and undead. We dispatched them and laid to rest the holy Knights who were likely killed in its defense. We stayed to Purify and consecrate the grounds." Tak tells the assembled troops. "Whatever we have on hand is all for the cause of course." Tak adds. Once the healing potions are distributed he will walk amongst the injured and offer words of encouragement to those injured and those providing care while periodically casting Detect Fiendish Presence.

With the chapel blessed, and the injured knights tended to, the remainder of the evening is left to solemn reflection of those that were slain. With concerns of them raising as undead due to the foulness of this land, they are each given to a funeral pyre instead of burial.

Cannetaken:
Walking through the camp and talking with the Knights, you get a sense that morale is starting to slip a bit. The proximity to Drezen is causing even these steadfast, pillars of justice, to falter a bit. Scanning for anything hiding amongst them comes up empty.

Marching the next day in the gorge is a mostly silent affair. Around midday there is a report that comes in from the scouts.

Green fog ahead, should we wait it out or press on?

Continuing forward about another half mile further into the gorge, the scouts rush back in a panic.

"This pass is blocked! There's no way we can safely get around that.... those.... things!"

As they gesture towards the western area, you can easily make out a shifting cloud of green. What's more... you can also hear it now. The droning buzz of a massive swarm of insects.

Aron is with the other leaders and frowns deeply upon taking notice of it.

"Vescavors. Nasty infernal bugs. Swarm like that, there's gotta be a queen around here. We're already too close with the army for their safety. If we try to run, it'll just draw their attention. Best chance to survive is send a small group to kill the queen. The brood should leave if there's nothing here to protect. Hate to say it, but you guys with your special blessings are likely the best candidates for this task."

Sosiel looks contemplative for a moment, but nods in agreement.

"It would seem that we may have gotten ourselves into a sticky situation. This gorge is the best and fastest route to Drezen. If we were to backtrack, it could add days to the trip, and they will most certainly know we're coming by then."

The army slowly pulls back away from the swarm, while the newly forged demigods, cautiously advance.

A few of the pesky bugs swoop close to the group as the move further and further into dangerous territory, but most seem to be occupied and make no effort to engage the walking, talking piles of food.

After a few minutes of watching and investigating, it becomes obvious that there is one of the cave openings that a majority of the flying demons are going in and out of.

Warm air fills this crystalline cavern, pulled through a vent in the ceiling twenty feet overhead. A continuous, high-pitched noise issues from the three tunnels ahead, a disconcerting drone melded with the discordant buzz of an angry crowd. The walls, floor, and ceiling of this cave glisten with moisture and are caked with a thick red resin resembling dried mucus, giving the chamber the disturbing illusion of being the interior of some great beast’s body.

More insects flit to and fro in here, but none seem particularly interested in snacking... yet.
