Just realizing now that I had mistakenly remembered this character having a buckler. He has a steel shield so could I have dropped the shield as a free action before drawing the longsword? So action economy could be good? And of course my already low AC will be even lower...

Returning to the knights, you do notice that the skies are much, much clearer than they were earlier. The buzzing of the vescavor has died down as have their numbers. There are no remains, so surely they have moved on to a new location, but at least the path is clear and safe to travel on.

Spending the evening recovering there are grumblings from some of the troops that odd things keep happening. Items will shift or move on their own or even worse, sometimes are damaged with no one around.

A few soldiers even confide in the group that there have been strange dreams haunting them at night. Ever since the eyeball rain. Soldiers will wake up exhausted here and there.

Focusing back in, the evening seems otherwise uneventful, and morning dawns soon enough. With time and a few well spoken words of power, the group is able to seal the rift and block this point of access from the Abyss into the material plane.

On returning, the knights have the camp packed and are ready to move, which as it turns out is not a very long expedition. The city rises into view after just a couple miles of marching. So, a new encampment is established and folks are itching for a fight now that Drezen is right in front of them.

with Drezen having been lost years ago, the very few people that still insist on residing here are scattered throughout the city and try very hard to stay out of sight so as to, you know... not be murdered by demons. so, for all intents and purposes, the only living things in the area are the knights or enemies.

The leaders convene.

Sosiel shakes his head. "We will need to do everything we can to retrieve the Sword of Valor quickly. Hopefully they have not figured out that is our target, but I worry that if they are so brazen as to let us spot them before escaping, they may be trying to bait us into poor positioning. We will need to try to get a lay of the land and plan our next moves carefully."

Anevia and Aron both offer up their services to scout inside the city. Irabeth is clearly nervous about the prospect of sending them, but waits for input from the others assembled.

Aron and Anevia brighten at the news.

"Well then, we'll get started right away."

The pair of scouts start to formulate an approach to how best to check out this demon infested city.

About half a day passes and they return with news.

Anevia reports back about two large forces. One in the southbank region, the other on the west end in the cemetary.

"Those in the southbank are mostly tieflings and humans. A lot are wearing heavy armor. Looks like a lot of captured crusader gear. Could be a good boon to take that back from them. At the cemetery, lots and lots of ghouls. Excessively so I would think. There also was something else out there, it was hard to really get a good look at it. Was just a sort of floating darkness near one of the vaults."

Aron gives his bit of info next.

"There are two bridges in the city. One has already been destroyed, the other, the Ahari Bridge is still in tact. If we can secure it, it'll give us some tactical options for the knights to be able to move about in the city. Outside of that, the citadel is directly north of that bridge. It was buttoned up pretty tightly, so I couldn't get any info on what's inside it, but there are seven watchtowers surrounding it. Each one has just a few guards and a catapult. If we can eliminate those guards, that will take some of the pressure off when we siege the citadel."

Finally the pair relay the last bit.

"The area to the northwest is called Paradise Hill. It looks like it used to be mostly for warehouses and food stores. Currently there are plenty of demons (goat-headed and muscle bound) stationed there using the buildings as a prison for captured crusaders."

"Its me, Wally, Walton Martion. Though you've all been calling me Walmir since we met. I've grown my beard out more fully so its easy to see how you wouldn't recognize me."

Good morning Walton, I think it's a fine day to crush evil!

Now Walmir has a personality change, will have to keep an eye out and see if what is going on with Darius is contagious.

"Now I may be a simple country preacher but it seems to me that we ought to bring the army around and sort of flush out the demon army from the city. Once that's settled we can then focus our attention on the smaller targets while the holy host army keeps the demon army at bay and guards our backs."

bit of a minor retcon here, i had totally forgotten until i went back trough the older posts. you guys had anevia and irabeth stay behind at kenabres.... soooo, she couldn't have scouted for you. not a huge deal, the info would have still been relayed, but i didn't mean to include a missing npc. sorry bout that >.<

With the knights and enemy on the field, the fighting is fast and fierce. The knights deal damage to some cultists, while the tieflings launch arrows at the heroic warriors. As the groups close into melee range, the paladins turn their attention to the tieflings, and quickly scatter them with holy power. As the day progresses, the cultists try to rally, but the knights are too strong and easily defeat the remaining forces.

For the victory here, you are able to salvage some equipment and supplies. This improves the masterwork armor of the army to magical armor. (DV increases by +1 plus 15 units of food)

The next day, the army marches across the city to the cemetary. Once there, the ghouls try to swarm over the holy warriors, but their powerful connection to Iomedae is too much and the ghouls are destroyed.

Day three in Drezen dawns, and the knights are gearing up to face their toughest challenge. The army of schir keeping watch over prisoners in the city. The battle rages over six days, with each side finding some struggles in their communication channels, as well as a few decisive victories. Eventually, the knights are able to utilize their ability to tend to their own wounds, while the schir slowly dwindle down due to attrition.

With the success in Paradise Hill, the knights have freed a group of prisoners. They vow to assist in any way they can. (you can use this army to either heal the knights OR to make a second, weaker, army)

Among their number, Salvatore immediately recognizes one of them as his lost sister, Serafina!

With the larger challenges accomplished, the leaders convene to discuss the clearing of the skirmish sites the scouts reported.

and, since we've got a small lull here, you guys level up at this point. congrats, you're now 7 :)
