So, I did something wrong with my level up. I gave myself extra hitpoints and extra traits from the Player's Handbook. But my stats increase too? I will look at it better tomorrow, when I have more time. Apologies.

DM Nex |

No need to apologies!
Anything you are trained in (Weapons, Saves, Skills, Armor(AC), etc) includes your level plus trained bonus (+2 for trained +4 for expert, etc). So when you level a TON of stuff goes up by 1.
So look at all the things that say 'Trained' or 'Expert' and make sure those go up by 1.
A not exhaustive list for monk:
Fort, Reflex, Will
All trained Skills
Simple Weapon attacks and Unarmed Attacks
Unarmored Defense (wearing no armor) AC
Your Class DC (used for special Abilities you may have)
You have Ki Strike, so you have 1 focus point you can use (and recharge by focusing for 10 minutes). It allows you to add +1 to attack rolls and an extra 1d6 damage per strike. This is something you can almost do every combat, as long as you have time to refocus before moving on. Also because you have Elemental Fist you can do elemental damage as well.
Monk is a pretty sweet class. :)

DM Nex |

Ok Vrolun, I rebuilt your character in Hero Lab. Because I think there is enough stuff that was wrong I wanted to check in on. You still have listed BAB and Shield bonus, etc. So here is the sheet with some notes:
Vrolun
Gnome monk 2 Lost Omens Character Guide
NG, Small, Gnome, Humanoid
Perception +4; darkvision, low-light vision
Languages Common, Gnomish, Sylvan
Skills Acrobatics +7, Athletics +5, Breachill Lore +4, Crafting +4 (+5 when crafting items of type .), Religion +4
Str 12 (+1), Dex 16 (+3), Con 16 (+3), Int 10 (+0), Wis 10 (+0), Cha 14 (+2)
Other Items staff
--------------------
AC 19; Fort +9; Ref +9; Will +6
HP 34 Focus Points 1 Hero Points 1
--------------------
Speed 25 feet
Melee [1] fist +7 (nonlethal, agile, finesse), Damage 1d6+1 Blud
Melee [1] staff +5 (two-hand (1d8)), Damage 1d4+1 Blud
Focus Spells 1 Focus Point, DC 17; 1st Ki Strike
Feats Cat Fall, Elemental Fist, Ki Strike, Specialty Crafting, Unexpected Shift[LOCG]
Other Abilities flurry of blows, ki spells, powerful fist
Notes:
- I didn't add items or money in this.
- You are missing 1 more trained skill. So pick another skill to be trained in.
- Your Init is +4 (since Perception is +4 as you are trained in it)
- Your AC is 19 (Unarmored expert +4, level +2, +10 base)
- Your to hit is +7/+3/-1
- Don't forget about Unexpected Shift. Every round you can roll a DC 16 flat check and gain resistance 2 (your level) to any damage. Attacks, spells, or other effects. Very useful when getting smacked on. Can only attempt once per round. Recharging on your turn.
- As said before, don't forget about your Ki Strike. Gives you +1 to hit and does extra damage. Can be comboed with Flurry of Blows for extra damage!
- Your skill scores are different. See sheet above
-
I am not trying to "school" you. I just could tell your character was built with a lot of PF1 ideas in mind. Wanted to give you a chance to fix it up a bit. Feel free to steal that sheet (and add your items and gold) if you want.
@Everyone If anyone else wants me to remake using Hero Lab I can help verify abilities and stuff. Want everyone to feel they have their full power and list of abilities.

It's most unfortunate; but PbP is like that. I suggest either recruitment, contact initial recruits, or if someone knows a guy...or girl.
EDIT: I actually texted my GM from Extinction's Curse game. Waiting to here back from him; if ok?
We can proceed; aligning our next rest/report with the new pc's arrival. We should be able to finish the North end with 3 of us plus Alak.

Mosquito. |

Unfortunately, he declined. He runs our weekly Roll20 Extinction's Curse game. I also roped him into my Agents of Edgewatch PbP; so...lol.
I will text some others that I know.

Beryl Brighthammer |

Recruitment sounds sensible. I'll ask around too. I think the only person I know who might be interested is at their PbP limit, though I'll ask anyway.

DM Nex |

Ok! Looks like we have 2 new people joining. I have directed them here, and they are solid choices I think. One is a player I know well (and I think Bertrum will know too.
The other player knows Bertrum and Mosquito. So we will see how they join in. Going back up to 5 players, might be a bit big, but I am down for trying it.
I do want to make 1 change to the character builds. I have been doing research and I think adding in the "Free Archetype Variant" will add a lot of flavor to the game.
So what that means for everyone:
Starting level 2 and every even level going forward you get an extra class feat that has to be used on an Archtype (or dedication). Any common ones are available, and if there is an uncommon one let me know.
The list of choices are here:
https://2e.aonprd.com/Archetypes.aspx
Everyone should choose one for the level 2. Add some flavor to all the characters :).
I am going to assume the group heads back to rest at this point. Bit odd, but that way we can just bring people in. Would rather wait and get a whole group working..

Mosquito. |

Did you just give us FREE Dedication Feats?
Goblin going shopping!!!
EDIT: I read and understood the entire post; but FREE Dedication Feats!!!
Who are you...doot doot...whooooo are you...!

Enara Etcheberry |

Hello everyone! I'm Enara, formerly of the free city of Kintargo, and I will be your rogue for this adventure. My homework is to catch up on the gameplay thread so far, and to advance myself to level 2. And hey, free archetype feats! Woohoo!

Mosquito. |

Looking at Bard Dedication for our fun-loving goblin! Opinions?
Oh! Sweet! Welcome GM Losonti! Wow! You changed fast...lol! Great to have you join our mery band. We aren't actually a band; but, Mosquito--now--can make that happen!

Enara Etcheberry |

I do have one quick question: since Enara is starting out at level 2 rather than 1, the "Treasure for New Characters" section of the CRB (pages 510-511) says I should start with an additional permanent item of level 1 or less, and with 20gp to spend instead of 15. Just want to check that that's cool with you before I mess with what I've already got there.

Beryl Brighthammer |

Woohoo, I think this is a great idea. I'm using the free archetype feat for my home game of Agents of Edgewatch, I like that it gives everyone another way to distinguish their characters.
Since Beryl already took an archetype feat in place of her class feat at level 2, can she take a regular class feat now and call the archetype feat her free one?

Enara Etcheberry |

Awesome, thank you! I'm going with the Acrobat archetype, so expect to see me jumping around bad guys a lot!

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Bard-Fighter Goblin? Works for me!
=)
I took the Mauler Dedication Class Feat (Mauler Archtype) already, so I will have to Retcon as Beryl did.
Probably adding the 'Reach Spell' metamagic feat.

Beryl Brighthammer |

Great thanks. Beryl has gone with "Alchemical Familiar", mainly to get an extra reagent per day, though perhaps with some more feats down the line she might use it for scouting. Also would you mind updating the loot sheet link in the game header to this one?
I think it's up to date

Phai Kareen |

"Hu...hello?"
*waves*
"I heard you guys are in desperate need of a new Gnome Mascot wielding immeasurable arcane powers? As representative, leader and #1 member of the local guild of adventuring Gnomes, I feel obliged to support you with the best member I have available."
The gnomish girl curtsies in an elaborate flourish, fluidly moving into an pose with outstretched arms as if awaiting applause, then adds, with a lower volume: "Me. That's me. I'll tag along now."

Phai Kareen |

I need to leave right now, and will be busy for a few hours. I'll simply move my introduction to gameplay to make it official and so I don't hold things up :D
Wanted to make a different introduction but am in a hurry so it'll do...I hope :)

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Sorry all, I'm pretty sick and I've got to get a COVID test ASAP. I will try and stay active here, but I cannot guarantee anything for at least a week or so I fear. Stay healthy everyone.

Enara Etcheberry |

Went through a pretty similar experience a while back, and it was awful. Hope you get a negative result.

Bertrum Half-Wild |

I'm feeling better today and my Antibody test showed negative for COVID. So good news all around. I just have the Flu or something...

Enara Etcheberry |

Said this in our other game, but glad to hear it.
Wanted to mention this, cause I think for this game it's the first time it would have come up: since Enara is an Expert at Stealth, when she's using Avoid Notice, other people can use Follow the Expert to try and Stealth with her. I know everybody is already trained in Stealth, so the untrained proficiency isn't useful, but it also gives you a +2 circumstance bonus to your Stealth checks.
Same thing applies for Acrobatics checks, but that's a bit less common.

Phai Kareen |

Interesting. I misread that and thought I get that instead of the proficiency bonus, which at trained would match the +2...but it's extra. So even if Phai was an expert(or better) herself, she could "follow the expert" and gain a +2(or better) circumstance bonus?
Also, we are already in a building, but I do have Terrain Stalker Underbrush(to make it easier to study animals from close up. Something of a recent hobby of mine). So in wilderness, I'll still be better off by myself :)

Enara Etcheberry |

That's how it reads to me, yeah. It says you *can* add your level, even if you're untrained, but in addition to that you get the circumstance bonus. I might also get Quiet Allies at some point.

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Phai: Sorry about that roll20 issue. You should have control of your token now. Because its PbP I just gave everyone access to everyone's tokens. Makes life a bit easier. I might end up migrating to google sheets at some point to make it even more easier, but for now roll20 should work.
I'm going to bring this up now: Roll 20 keeps crashing my new computer. I also generally believe it was at least partially responsible for the recent death (in October) of my old computer turning my old Hard Drive into a paperweight.
I like Roll 20, but not if it keep causing my computer to crash and reboot. The sooner we migrate the better in my opinion.

DM Nex |

Oh no! that's not good at all. I know it can use a decent amount of power, but I didn't think it was a big hard drive hog. Since its all in the browser not sure what would do that.. Never heard of it crashing a whole computer before. I guess maybe overheating it, might make sense.
I have been playing around with moving to Google Sheets for my PbP for awhile. To avoid having to log in, at the least. I will try to start making that transition soon then.

Phai Kareen |

Not sure how it could target the hard drive, but I did mentioned that it gave me a bluescreen/system kill at some point, and I was certain it was roll20.
Other than that, it worked surprisingly smooth the last couple of months - no browser crashes or anything.
But yeah, logging in is an issue(plus the timer) and it sometimes gets blocked at work.
Not sure why that policy is inconsistent, but I'll not ask and draw attention to the topic.
Also: Did we know to expect trouble? It seems we anticipated combat, right? In that case, I would have pre-cast Longstrider a couple minutes ago, say 10 or so. Only an hour-long buff on basic, but still enough to run away if something slaughters all my allies.(or at least to make sure I am not the slowest one that IS left behind getting slaughtered)

Enara Etcheberry |

Roll20 is very clunky, even on my gaming computer. It's why I've switched my home games to using Foundry, although that's not practical for PBP (unless you want to leave the game server running on your computer 24/7).

DM Nex |

I also use Foundry for our normal games. Kinda bummed it does not really work for PbP. I do leave my server running, but I have like 3 other games on it, so it only allows one game at a time, which is the bummer.
Yes, you did expect to get into it pretty fast, so longstrider is fine with me.
If Roll20 did it, its likely a hardware failure that was going to happen anyway, or something. I see that happening with not enough ram.. Still Google docs is going to be more available to people. (and less blocked on Company networks ha)

Enara Etcheberry |

Foundry is so good, I'm mad I didn't know about it earlier lol

Bertrum Half-Wild |

I think the Roll 20 thing has something to do with programming/windows/other stuff. My new computer runs as cool as a cucumber. Maybe something to do with Adobe no longer supporting Flash Player plugins or something? I don't know.

Phai Kareen |

I can assure you it should not be RAM. I have 64GB of Ram on this machine - if the system freeze was a memory issue, then it would be a lot more widespread as the average memory people have in their builds is significantly lower.
Alas, I only worry if something like that happens repeatedly - it seemly seemed relevant in the light of Bertrum also having had issues.
Also, gonna take a look at Foundry later.

DM Nex |

Roll20 does not use flash at all. Its all using native html technologies.
And I believe you about the ram. My player was having issues with roll20 because of just having an old laptop. I was not sure if it was a ram issue or just straight overheating..
Anyway. Whatever the cause, I don't use roll20 for my own games anymore, just here on PBP. I hope to in the next week or two convert it over. Though I do enjoy the token system, I think maps are just mostly for reference and ever so slight changes that roll20 seems like overkill.
For playing real time Foundry is great. Bit more intense, but very solid choice if you are playing virtually.
