Mist the Tian Shapechanger

Hello!
Having only just seen the solution to the login problem I am now able to log back in to say I'm going away... sorry...
I have a family trip from tomorrow through to the following Tuesday (26th). Details only got worked out on Friday
I've been trying to back online to let you all know, sorry about what turned into short notice.

Hey guys - it feels we are in danger of losing momentum in this game. Let's try to pick up pace on postings - this is a challenging combat but I am keen to see this story play out.
Aaftaab

I think I have already acted.
| GM Elberion |
Sorry, it's me.
I am busy, got lost down a how-does-ethereal-actually-work rabbit hole and have been focussing on my Feast of Ravenmoor game when I do have some GM time as it is coming to a close.
I will move things along today.
| GM Elberion |
Sorry for the hiatus.
It's been a crazy week: kids are off school, we are still working full-time (both key-workers) and grandparents not allowed to do childcare because of the plague.

No problem! Sounds like you are juggling there - at least the kids are back to school this week...
On a separate note, my 16-year old son this weekend started playing rpg's with his mates for the first time. Should I be proud, or condemned for parental neglect, for not protecting him from this addictive, geeky hobby?

You should be condemned for not getting him into this addictive, geeky hobby many years ago.
My seven-year old is halfway through the Pathfinder Beginner Box adventure!

Phase Spider planning
Okay, the combat started here.
It looks like Reginald made the DC 15 Knowledge check at +8 here, which should give him two pieces of useful information about the spiders which I don't see ever being given out. (He asked for special attacks, and would also get one more thing known.)
Robyyn succeeded at the DC 15 check exactly, so should also earn one piece of useful information. Let's get special defenses for Robyyn's check.
It doesn't look like anybody else attempted the DC 15 Knowledge (arcana) check. Let's get those checks in if you're trained, so we have as much info about the spiders as possible to plan with.
| GM Elberion |
Reginald asked for special abilities. I gave him this information, which is both special attacks and defences:
Ethereal Ambush (Ex) A phase spider that attacks foes on the Material Plane in a surprise round can take a full round of actions if it begins the combat by phasing into the Material Plane from the Ethereal Plane.
Ethereal Jaunt (Su) A phase spider can shift from the Ethereal Plane to the Material Plane as a free action, and shift back again as a move action (or as part of a move action). The ability is otherwise identical to ethereal jaunt (CL 15th).
You have already experienced the poison.
Poison (Ex) Bite—injury; save Fort DC 18; frequency 1/round for 8 rounds; effect 1d2 Constitution damage; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Constitution-based.
And you know they have a climb speed. That they are large but do not have reach.
You are supposed to get useful information so, with your roll that I missed, I will add that they are Neutral and speak Aklo, which might expand your options. And they are magical beasts.

You wont get any knowledge rolls out of me...
"I don't mind going in there. Nothing to be scared of, my dudes. Just a little pain is all. If one of you has some magics that let me hit ghosty things- then this could be, like, over pretty quick."
He hands a small wand over to Robynn. "Ya think you could you use this on me? Enlarge person
UMD, Wand of shield: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
With Enlarge person, Ischell has a reach of 20 feet, and can lunge to 25 feet. Sheild should get his AC to something respectable, and his Fort save is pretty darn good. If there is no other plan, 'Ischell smash' is A-OK with me.
Robyyn

They can only phase in and out on their own turn, right (free action vs. immediate)? So if Robyyn or Reginald land an Evil Eye or Misfortune hex, and then cackles on our turn (while the spider is still on the material plane), the hex will survive trips back and forth to the ethereal plane, right?
Robyyn can create an aura of desecration (that Ischell will be really unnerved by), but it allows Robyyn to deliver touch spells via ranged touch (voodoo doll style). I'm thinking after we get an evil eye and/or misfortune to stick, he'll probably try to bestow curse that way, and move on from there.
Other thoughts?
Reginald Gerbin III
|
I think Reginald's see invisibility would have expired by now (50 minute duration), and he doesn't have another one prepared so we'll be flying kinda blind. Not much more to offer than Evil Eye and Misfortune - but we'll need to remember that if an opponent saves against Reginald's Misfortune then they're also immune to Robyyn's (and vice versa).
| GM Elberion |
Apologies everyone.
One of our kittens knocked a pint of water over my laptop.
It will be a little while before I can get someone to retrieve my data (including the pdfs) and I will need to buy a new laptop as well.
I won’t be able to move the action forward for a little while :(
Robyyn
|
I'm so sorry to hear that! We'll be waiting for you.
In the meantime, we can continue discussing phase spiders. At this point, only half the party has chimed in with their ideas; there are three more players to involve in the discussion. We should have the best plan ever when you're ready to resume!
Mist the Tian Shapechanger

Mist is pack a longbow but she doesn't have the archery feats.
Her saves aren't exactly top notch either....
Can either Roby or Reggie chuck some glitterdust?
Robyyn

Can either Roby or Reggie chuck some glitterdust?
Robyyn has a wand with a few charges. Would glitterdust survive the transition to the Ethereal plane and back?
As a wand, the DC is only 13, so it's primarily for canceling invisibility; we can't rely on the blindness effect.
Aaftaab
|
Aaftaab can go in too with Parvaaz. With a ready action they can both deal substantial damage. We just need to stay near each other.
Reginald Gerbin III

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yeah, the Readied actions and sticking together might be our best bets. The spiders targeted Reginald and Robyyn last time, so they're probably looking for the least-armored opponents. Given that they can phase in as a swift action, bite as a standard, and phase out as a move action, we can't delay and hope for full-attacks against them. And glitterdust won't help against the etherealness, which is their biggest advantage.
So stick the squishy witches and wizards in the middle and all of us move together, readying actions to attack/Evil Eye/Misfortune the spiders. @Robyyn, the two of us could coordinate so one person slaps one of the spiders with a -2 penalty to saving throws and the other follows up with a Misfortune that's more likely to stick.
Robyyn
|
Neither of you took the slumber hex?
Not Robyyn. When I rebuilt Robyyn to use the Gravewalker archetype, I traded away two hexes, so he's is low on hexes to begin with. Flight was essential for roleplay as a sylph, and evil eye/misfortune are just too essential to any witch to be skipped; the only reason he has those is two Extra Hex feats. You'll also notice that the only reason he has cackle is the blouse.

Huh?!? I thought Reginald is a wizard!! :-O
| GM Elberion |
Thanks everyone. The new laptop arrives on Tuesday so we can start again on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Robyyn

Should we organize our tokens in our starting "witches in the middle" arrangement, with an enlarged Ischell in the lead?
Actually, after reviewing the map, is it a good idea for Ischell to start enlarged? There are two rows of what look like walls with 5' gaps (the dashed red and black circles). @GM are those obstructions, or can we move freely over those map features?
Ischell
|
I can retcon that action to take the potion as soon as I step in. I also have a boon ability to become to enlarged 1 x day as a standard action that I could also use if the delay in the consumable is detrimental.
Robyyn
|
I put together a proposed "witches in the middle" arrangement on the Orrery map for people to review. It shows Ischell already enlarged to start; obviously we can change that based on the answer to my mobility question, above.
| GM Elberion |
Those walls are obstructions but Ischell can squeeze through easily enough.
| GM Elberion |
Right, new laptop is working: let's get this show on the road!
Robyyn

I wanted to give you some notice that I will be away this weekend. Pretty close to 24 hours after this post--around 1PM EDT on Friday in the US--I will be leaving for the weekend, returning sometime on Sunday. I probably won't resume posting until my usual time on Monday morning.
Aaftaab

Come on guys!! Let’s reignite the fire here!! :-D
| GM Elberion |
Apologies, hectic weekend.
You'll be interested to learn what happens if you manage to fit the lens correctly!
Robyyn

Hi all, this is a heads-up that I'm in a wedding tomorrow, and will be leaving work soon to get ready for the rehearsal/dinner. Given that I'm never good at posting on weekends, that means I probably won't post again until Monday. If I'm holding things up, feel free to bot me.
Robyyn

Hi all, sorry for my disappearance. My mother has had a health emergency and things are not good; she’s now in Hospice care. I’m going to do my best to be as present as possible to finish this scenario—goodness knows I’ll relish the distraction at times—but there will likely be more unexpected absences along the way. Please don’t hesitate to bot me, and thanks for the understanding. I’ll start catching up in Gameplay tomorrow.
| GM Elberion |
Sorry for going AWOL lately.
Work/Life got crazy for a little while.
We had my wife's 40th birthday.
We had a load of other delayed birthday things (here in the UK, lockdown has just been eased).
I was the busiest I have ever been at work: I'm a teacher whose students are all doing end-of-year exams. Due to COVID, the exams were all cancelled and replaced by teacher-assessed-grades. The exam boards did not explain how to gather, evidence and share these grades until very late in the metaphorical day. I have done so much marking and assessment, I've started dreaming about assessment criteria.
I should get back on track with all of my games over the next few days.
| GM Fox--Phantom |
Hi all.
So my life has gone mildly to s$@~ atm and I’ve pretty much having a combined burnt out and breakdown.
So what that means is I need to put my campaigns on hold for a month.
Hopefully that gives some space and time to get things semi sorted out and I can pick it all up at the start of July.
I am so sorry and I hope you can forgive me for making a bit of a mess of things.
| GM Elberion |
That's awful. I'm sorry, Zin.
And Fox-Phantom, that's cool, thanks for keeping us informed.
| GM Elberion |
Apologies for another hiatus.
This is the last part of the adventure.
I will post tonight.
Aaftaab
|
Thanks
| GM Elberion |
When I wrote 'last part', I meant this location, not this encounter...
I don't want to confuse anyone.
Aaftaab

Hi guys, can we start posting again in this campaign please?
I would love to play Aaftaab in a game that starts in two weeks.
Is that realistic?! :-D

Bumping this; we can get this back on track, and must be near the end!

I am game to increase speed again- however, I am without any real internet until Monday. I can check in and do small updates, but nothing complex or in character or that involves a map

There are only three responses since Aaftaab posted a call to action for this game. Our GM didn't even respond. Are we dead in the water?

I think the GM needs time so that is fine for me.
Real life always first.

I think so :/
