If you’re going to dip, dip hard!

Sorry for missing a few days.

From Shore to Sea GM All-powerful dictator of reality 4

I am on a weekend away with the family and have forgotten the modules. I actually packed them in a bag with some board games and left the whole bag at home!

Your GM will be back in action on Monday evening. Apologies.

I feel your pain. I am now in the habit of typing all my posts in any other application first, then copying them over before posting. It is so infuriating to lose them into the ether.

There was a period a few years ago where it was really bad but I got an add-on to my browser ‘lazarus’ that recovered lost form data.
It’s nit so bad now but Lazarus is no longer working.

We have not heard from Mist since 8 Sep, Ischell since he said he'd be away for a week on the 12th, or Reginald since the 17th.

One of the advantages of PbP play is the ability to roleplay your character's inaction. Describe the sullen looks as the other characters take charge of the diplomacy. Describe the boredom as other characters climb the cavern wall to retrieve the embedded jewel. It helps develop the character and story, and it serves as a functional placeholder post so everyone knows you (the player) are still engaged even if your PC can't really contribute right now.

See: Robyyn's posts about not rowing the boat.

Not calling you out specifically, Ischell, just using your comment as a prompt for this suggestion.

I couldn't agree more, Robyyn.

Would Castinus have been able to climb the cliff unaided? or, more likely, from what height would he have fallen, eventually? The above is what might have happened with my very harsh and hopefully incorrect reading of the climbing rules, in the absence of a helpful rope:

Starting at 15' up...
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 = 22.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 = 30'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 = woah ! no progress...
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 = 37.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (6) = 12 = Plummet !
catch the edge, DC26 climb, panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 = Nope

Fall from 35' up 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) = 10 damage. Repeat.

Starting at 0' up...
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 = 7.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 = no progress...
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 = Plummet !
catch the edge, DC26 climb, panache: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 5 + (3) = 16 = Nope

Fall from 7.5' up, no damage. Repeat.

climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 = 7.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 = 15'

climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 = No progress

climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 5 + (4) = 28 = Recovery! but no more panache...
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 = 45'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 = No progress
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 = 52.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 = 60'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 = 67.5'
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 = No progress
climb, no panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 = Slip!
catch the edge, DC26 climb, panache: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 = Nope

Fall from 67.5' up, 6d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 1, 5, 5) = 18 damage. -1 HP and dying.

I guess if he had taken the time to tie off a rope at every successful climb, and then used this to ascend back to where he fell each time, he could have made it.

Owch.

So, I am pretty sure that a creature attacking from total concealment, into a space outside of that concealment, does not technically lose concealment. Even if it has reach.

It seems a bit weird though. If anyone can show me different, let me know.

There are specific rules regarding a Ghosts having to step out from a wall in order to attack, always allowing themselves open to AoO and readied attacks.

I am not sure how that would work with Evil Eye (do you have to see it the whole time?), but the creature does loose concealment during an attack outside of the concealment, for at least the period of time of the attack,.

No, you just have to see it when you hex it, and it has to be within 30', though it doesn't have to remain there. There's no language about the effect ending if it moves out of sight or out of range after.

Evil Eye (Su) wrote:
The witch can cause doubt to creep into the mind of a foe within 30 feet that she can see. The target takes a –2 penalty on one of the following (witch's choice): AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks. This hex lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the witch's Intelligence modifier. A Will save reduces this to just 1 round. This is a mind-affecting effect. At 8th level the penalty increases to –4.

Here is the actual wording

Incorporeal wrote:
An incorporeal creature can enter or pass through solid objects, but must remain adjacent to the object’s exterior, and so cannot pass entirely through an object whose space is larger than its own. It can sense the presence of creatures or objects within a square adjacent to its current location, but enemies have total concealment (50% miss chance) from an incorporeal creature that is inside an object. In order to see beyond the object it is in and attack normally, the incorporeal creature must emerge. An incorporeal creature inside an object has total cover, but when it attacks a creature outside the object it only has cover, so a creature outside with a readied action could strike at it as it attacks. An incorporeal creature cannot pass through a force effect.

From Shore to Sea GM All-powerful dictator of reality 4

Hmm, following the same logic, it would go from total concealment to concealment.
