When you presented it, you mentioned that you flubbed an Appraise check, so I am simply holding out hope it is cold iron, since it was made from "some dark material" IIRC.

I know the silver hammer won't bypass the DR though, so might as well try.

Marcianus, here is the post I had just finished typing. I only hit refresh on the gameplay thread because I went to check the map and saw the circle you put on it.

Alternate Universe Wolfgang wrote:

Wolfgang growls as the kuribu flies out of reach. "Hasn't anyone ever told you that statues of children are supposed to be seen and not heard?"

The tiefling yanks out a scroll. "Sicaria, Zelicia, fall in!" The parchment crumbles to dust as he reads the arcane runes out loud, and cloud of mist billows up from where he stands, covering a hemisphere with a 20' radius.

Obscuring Mist

I’m happy to save Wolfgang’s scroll. Will post my action in a little bit.

I've got a post ready once he is restored.

Rogue with a 10 Wisdom. Probably ought to do something about that sooner rather than later.

Alrighty. Well. That was week 2 of events. Week 3 is a long one. Lots of stuff happening to lead to act III of this book, so bear with me. We've still got a bit before level up.

I apologize - I've been slammed at work all week and the slamming will continue until tomorrow evening (Central US time). Wolfgang goes along with the group - and totally would have smashed Riley's lute if he had it with him - but I won't be able to post much until late tomorrow (or Saturday morning, depending on how wrecked I am).

Hell's Vengeance - Slides

No worries. Fridays marks the beginning of my IRL play gauntlet (okay, that's exagerated. It's only 2 sessions, but I'm GM for one. Only reason I'm posting now is because I did my prep last night instead of PbP), so I won't be posting again until Sunday anyways.

Just a heads up in case you haven't already seen it: Paizo has started another Humble Bundle deal. PDFs of a couple of dozen 1st edition splatbooks from the Campaign Setting and Player Companion lines with the theme of "Monster Lore," including the hardcover compilation of Book of the Damned. There's some good stuff here for a great price, if you don't already have it all.

Hey there everyone. I'm sorry to say this, but I'm going to unfortunately need a bit of a break from PbP. I messed up my back something fierce while already having a diagnosed back issue, and the two seem to be interacting in a rather unpleasant way. It is currently difficult for me to do much more than lay down, and until I get this situation resolved, it's not going to be much better. I've got stuff lined up to get this fixed ASAP, but since I don't know when that'll be, I'll have to say that I'll be inconsistent at best until the situation is resolved. I'll update here once it is.

Thank you all for understanding.

Alrighty. I think my back is better enough that I should be able to post here without ruining my ability to do other things! Huzzah!

On that note, I'll make sure Zelicia posts soon so we can move on. (spoiler alert: she's my wife. So she knew she wouldn't need to post and has been working on helping my recovery. Not that she just dropped off the face of the planet).

My posts will likely not be daily for a few weeks while I get back up and running.

GM: what is the small gray rectangle against the building at the upper right (northeast?) corner? And would anyone in the party ever have been inside the church, and be able to give us an idea of the layout inside?

Zelicia, Sicaria, Marcianus - What do you think - smash, stealth, or split between two entrances and try both tactics? Wolfgang prefers stealth but is open as long as he doesn't go first - he can cast vanish but it only lasts two rounds at this level. I suggest he use ordinary stealth to sneak around the perimeter of the building before we all get in too close, checking for open windows (unlikely) and anything unexpected.

I say that someone should Stealth through the graveyard to that grey rectangle and see if it is a door.

If it is untrapped and unlocked (or can be disabled to make it so), that seems like the best place to enter.

@GM For your benefit, since it appears you were unfamiliar with the monster type.

NOTE: I was assuming that the module specified it wouldn't have the ability, since it was freshly raised or something like that. I have a habit of speaking up too much about rules stuff and I am attempting to curb that behavior (or I would have asked myself)

Nono. I honestly just missed it because it was listed in the wrong spot. I distinctly remember stench being an aura ability listed up near a monster's senses.... But, the battle's already gone a bit further south than I'd like, so that's really just my "made up" reason.

Sorry all. Had a migraine yesterday and a busy day at work today. Hoping to get a post tonight sometime.

Hell's Vengeance - Slides

Sorry about the response speed this last week. Since almost a week ago, I've been unable to access my MMO of choice, so it's been much harder to fully unwind after work. (for clarity, RuneScape. Wanna know what's up, you can look it up. Scary stuff)

Due to this, I must warn I'm going to be inconsistent on posting until the problem is resolved. PbP isn't as enjoyable if I'm posting while stressed. Thanks for understanding.

Hell's Vengeance - Slides

An update: Wonderful. Just great. The Runescape issue not only still persists, but the fix is merely entering beta soon. Stress levels are not happy, since it locked me out of OSRS, too. I've been trying to de-stress with other things, but there hasn't been anything on my computer that doesn't require constant focus, so it's been hard to get a post in. I'll see if I can get caught up and get a post today, but this week is looking like it will also be inconsistent at best.

Sorry again. Silly thing to get hung up on, but it's there nonetheless.

Hell's Vengeance - Slides

Further update: The beta for getting lost accounts back begins Tuesday and is invite only. I don't have an invite. I'll put a solid effort into trying to post daily this week, but the problem still isn't resolved. (insert angry grumbling noises here)

Alrighty. Level 3 is when I get Deific Obedience, which gives me a +2 profane bonus to confirm crits with sawtooth sabres, but more importantly it lets me fulfill somatic and divine focus components while I'm wielding sawtooth sabres in each hand. The obedience requires me to deal 1d6 damage to myself, so unless otherwise stated I do that then immediately cast one of my prepared cure light wounds to heal it at the beginning of the day. Hopefully all of that can just be handwaved and we won't need to properly roll the dice (because there is a statistical chance that I would take more damage than I heal), but that's up to the GM.

Also, I got a bonus combat feat, which I used to take Bloody Sabres; whenever I hit the same creature with both my primary and offhand attacks during "the same attack action" (pretty sure it means the same full-attack) then I also deal 1 bleed damage to that creature.

Hell's Vengeance - Slides

Go ahead and handwave, yeah.

As for Bloody Sabres, I'd assume the "same attack action" also refers to weird cases where you somehow make multiple attacks with lesser actions. But yeah, we'll take it to mean same full-attack unless a weird case comes up.

FINALLY! WOLFGANG GETS SNEAK ATTACK!

Honestly, the only thing I dislike about this archetype is that by delaying sneak attack to level 3, you just don’t feel like a real rogue until then. Now? Ray of frost and acid splash just became Wolfgang’s most important spells.

Marcianus:
- Soulbound Archetype starts to pay off and Zeke gains an additional eidolon pool point
- New Spells Known: Acid Splash and Rejuvinate Eidolon, Lesser
- New Feat: Resilient Eidolon
- I am reminded of how bad skills are for casters who aren't Int based.

(First level spell choices are hard. There are no other control type spells beyond Grease, Mage Armor and Protection from Good can easily be done through wands. Nothing else was very interesting.)

Zeke:
- New Evolutions: Improved Natural Armor, Energy Resistance (Sonic)
- Feat: Bodyguard

OK, so the extra evolution point doesn't have a huge payoff, but Sonic Resistance is decent, and I can always replace it at the next level up.

@GM AoOs haven't been common, so assume I use Bodyguard at any opportunity.

Here's what I have so far:

Favored class bonus: +1 skill point
Hit points: 5 (unch. rogue) +1 (Con)
BAB: +1
New class features:
- Sneak Attack, 1d6
- Finesse Weapon (add Dex modifier to damage for one weapon instead of Str mod): rapier
Add two free spells to spell book: silent image, snowball
Skills: +1 rank in each of Acrobatics, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Knowledge (History), Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, and Stealth

The one thing I'm still considering is Wolfgang's level 3 feat. I am leaning towards Accomplished Sneak Attacker (+1d6 sneak attack damage), but thinking about include:
- Weapon Focus (rapier) {instead of getting additional s.a. damage, Wolfgang would be more likely to hit}
- Grasping Tail (tiefling with prehensile tail can use it to retrieve stored items as a swift action)
- Spell Focus (evocation or illusion) {force of habit from playing full casters}
- Scribe Scroll

I'm less inclined to take the two caster-focused feats, because I think the way I'm planning to build Wolfgang over time, he is likely to be most effective as a melee combatant with spells, instead of a spellcaster with a sword. With four casters in the party, however, it would be useful if someone were to take scribe scroll at some point, so that we could work together to craft scrolls from any of our spell lists. If we wanted to go nuts, we could agree to each take one magic item crafting feat (not necessarily at level 3 or the first permitted level) to cover a lot of different types of items. But feats are hard to come by, and I would understand if folks are reluctant to make that commitment.

Thoughts?

Crafting feats are difficult for spontaneous casters. The spells you want on scrolls and wands are the ones that you don't want to memorize.

Since you have to be able to cast the spell to put it on a scroll/wand (right?), that doesn't work out very well.

I just hope that eventually we move to a town that actually has shops so that we can purchase stuff when we want to.

As I understand it, the crafter can work with someone else to cast the spell needed to craft the item. So if Wolfgang took scribe scroll and Marcianus took craft wand, Wolfgang could scribe scrolls of (for example) grease even if it weren't in his spellbook as long as it's one of Marcianus's spells known and he casts it as part of Wolfgang's scribing process. Marcianus could craft a wand of magic missile if Wolfgang prepared it from his spellbook and cast it for him as part of the crafting. So in this case, if Marcianus took Craft Wand, he wouldn't be limited to his spells known, he could make a wand of any spell that he or anyone else in the party has access to. In addition, a crafter can still make some magic items without knowing a required spell at a +5 to the crafting DC, but this does not apply to potions, spell-completion items (scrolls), or spell-trigger items (staves, wands).

Again, I don’t mean to push this point too hard. In my head, I’ve had most of Wolfgang’s early and mid-level feats mapped out since I created the character:

3. Accomplished Sneak Attacker
4. Rogue Talent: Vanishing Trick
5. Dodge
7. Mobility
8. Rogue Talent: Combat Trick (Spring Attack)
9. Step Up
11. Press to the Wall
12. Advanced Rogue Talent: Invisible Blade

Adding a crafting feat into the mix would just delay things. But an AP does leave time for crafting, and maybe it’s worth planning for it.

I am not ruling out Craft Wand at 5th level. I did not map out feats for this character, though there are a lot of eidolon based feats that are appealing, as well as boosting the DCs of control spells and perhaps social skills.

At the very least, we'll want someone to craft wands of infernal healing and protection, so if nobody else takes it, I will consider it. I can't see Scribe Scroll though.

Nothing in the inventory sheet that interests me that hasn't already been claimed by me. Though I do say that we keep the healing potions just out of principle.

Zelicia picked up Hold Person and Touch of Idiocy this level.

She can also deliver touch spells via ranged touch attacks, though it takes a bit of setup.

Also picked up Spell Focus: Enchantment.

I gave back the glaive, but am keeping the greatsword. If Ingoe comes through on the scrolls of masterwork transformation, there will be no reason to keep the glaive anyways.

Thought about claiming one of the bows, but I'll stick to javelins for ranged for now and look for something better down the road.

I concur that we should keep all of the potions. Doesn't really matter to me who holds on to them.
