The rest of the night is uninterrupted. Gren and Arthur finish their guard shift, then wake Dommer and Shaman Vale up for the morning watch.
A rain begins to fall during their morning feast, and once packed, the group continues to follow the tracks they've been following.
Survival from you main tracker please.

Arthur Alaval |

Along the path Arthur is distracted, annoyed that he had come unprepared and had to rely on others, he tries to watch out for edibles along the path that he wouldn't be a burden again.

Grenwold assisted Shaman Vale with the task of tracking, deferring to his obvious expertise.
Auto-aid survival

GM PDK |

The heroes manage to quickly find their quarry's footprints again and resume their tracking. After a few hours, they emerge into a clearing and witness an unusual sight. Three miniature plant persons with bodies composed of lichens and a rain cape woven from leafy growths are arranged in a circle before a boulder, listening intently to a singing performance by another plant creature. Verdant stalks entwine one another on this one, and create a humanoid shape with a giant snapdragon blossom for a head. The pitch of her voice is so high that it appears comical to some of you, but the three squat listeners are thoroughly enthralled and hang to her every word.
The listeners and the performer are all distracted at the moment and have not noticed any of you. What do you do? Map Updated

Herman the Reclusive |

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
"Faeries." Herman spits the word like a grape seed. "But they're not the ones we're looking for - too small to handle the knife that killed the hobgoblin. Don't get involved with them and just go around."

GM PDK |

Grenwold Houtvester |

knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Grenwold doesn't know what the creatures are. "Forgive me for speaking out of turn, Herman, but you consider me a faerie, and I am not one, and I've helped you many times. Maybe these will help us, too?" He whispers, "we certainly could use allies and friends in the Fangwood, especially since they seem to be able to blend in quite well with the flora. Are these known to be... villainous?" He smiles at Herman, but raises his hands defensively, "I will defer to everyone's wishes, however, should you all want to leave."

Arthur Alaval |

"I don't know WHAT they are, but they don't look dangerous. We might ask them if they've seen anything this way? If they turn out to be hostile, I am confident we can dispatch them easily."

Dommer |

Dommer grunts on his usual silence and moves ahead with his bow in hands. He whispers to his companions as he stops.
We should definitely try to talk to them. One never know, and I have no prejudice against these creatures until they prove me wrong. - he limited himself to say, aware he wasn't the ideal person to try to diplomatize with them.

Grenwold Houtvester |

Grenwold wants to talk to them, but is afraid of Herman yelling at him.

Herman the Reclusive |

”You’re a gnome - that’s practically half-fey,”Herman snaps back. ”And even if they’re leshys, we still shouldn’t bother talking to them. Little things don’t understand flesh, or mortality for that matter. Just like fey don’t understand that when they kill someone in this world, they stay dead.”
I mean, that’s a very legit fear, and totally something Herman would do. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it anyway though. XD

"For all we know they could be singing a death dirge for a fallen comrade. Even a little bit of news might be of use out here. Vale said as he slowly headed forward, saying greetings in the languages he knows.

"So sorry to interrupt." Vale said as he started to bow towards the lady on the stage. "Pleased to meet you Hessilda, Billo, Rej, and Steff, I am Vale. Please continue."
If they continue the performance.
"Thank you for that. I have heard the trees sing as wind blows past but I can now say that I have seen a fine performance from you my lady." Val said, applauding.

Grenwold Houtvester |

When Vale approaches, Grenwold and Ringo follow. Grenwold waves happily. "Hello! It's nice to see friendly folk here in these woods. We bear some sad and dangerous tidings - the Fangwood has been beset by hobgoblin invaders from the southwest, and that strange blight my family ran from in the far north." His eyes shine with pain at the memory, and he frowns a little.

Arthur Alaval |

"We came upon you while tracking some of them. . . have you seen any such creatures come this way?"

Herman the Reclusive |

"Hrmph." Herman glowers, but doesn't say anything. Yet.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Using some of his knowledge of nature and interactions with other creatures, Vale made some inroads towards creating good relations between the two groups.
Good time to roll a Nat 20

GM PDK |

The group of leshys appear friendly to the group now, and invite you to sit and rest your legs for a while so you can listen to Hessilda's performance.

Grenwold Houtvester |

Grenwold hops off of Ringo and sits next to Vale.

Ringo the Deer |

Ringo snuffs and sits within arms reach of Grenwold.

Herman the Reclusive |

”Oh I don’t know - maybe following someone’s trail!?” Herman spits. ”Not sitting on our asses?”

Plant Friends |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

"Who are you following while not sitting on your arses?!?" replies Rej, thoroughly impressed, before adding to his brother Billo, "That's a great idea, by the way, if we ever need to follow someone's trail... not sitting on our arses would make us go faster I think..." Billo nods, now in deep thoughts.

Arthur Alaval |

"We were following the trail of some hobgoblins who have been invading and who attacked our people. . ."

Plant Friends |

Steff's eyes widen, and he says, "Hobbed goblins? now why would they go about the forest with spiked boots? liable to get mud and clay stuck on their boots they are! an' tear holes and gouge exposed roots and spread dirt on grassed areas and flowerbeds I reckon! now, this we cannot abide! If I see one of these hobbed-booted goblins about, they'll get a piece of our mind that's what!"
Billo puts a hand on Steff's shoulder to comfort him, "We're with you, brother... we're with you. Have no fear. We won't abide by such nonsense either. Luckily, the only goblins we've seen lately are tall ones, and not the hobbed-booted kind, so relax... take a deep breath..."

Plant Friends |

"Seen quite a lot of 'em going back and forth in the last week. Largest bunch went south the way you came. Only one came back though... not as tall as the others... I think she was a wee tall-gob lady. Wee... Tall... uh... I'm not so sure which one now... Anyways... she went that way... yesterday morning I think..." Billo adds, pointing towards the larger west trail.

Grenwold Houtvester |

Grenwold nods at the little fellows, "our people folk call the tall gobs hobb-goblins, at least I think we do." He realizes they've been here for a while, and stands up, hopping back onto Ringo, who stays seated for a moment, listening quietly to the exchange. "I would ask the same question that my friend here did, but also provide you an offer - if you are worried for your safety, our people have an encampment in a cave about a days walk away."
He will offer to draw them a map should they wish to hide at the settlement.
"Erm, tell them that you are friends - and that you were sent by Grenwold - they should let you in as long as you don't sneak up on them. There is a patch of mushrooms that serve as an alarm - make sure to let them know you're there before you approach the mushrooms!"

Plant Friends |

"Uh... I don't know... been around here all my life. I don't think my safety is to be worried about. We leshys can look like the rest of the forest whenever we want to... Hessilda can look like a pretty flower bed though... so I'd be worried to move her closer to your people... they're more likely to pluck flowers than the tall-gobs. Those guys don't care about flowers, and they sometimes even water the flowers with warm yellow sap... that's nice of them don't you think?"

Arthur Alaval |

"no, that sap does NOT sound nice at all! But these tall goblins have killed some, many actually, of our friends- they are very dangerous."

Dommer |

Dommer chuckled at this point, and tried his best not to show it. He was ashamed - he, himself, had numerous times watered the flowers with his own warm yellow sap. Maybe it was wrong, now that he thought about it, but such was the humble life he lived. He knew he wasn't the most social or charismatic around - he was grumpy enough, even if he wasn't rude like Herman.

GM PDK |

The heroes depart the strange plant creatures and continue on the hobgoblin's trail. After a few hours, they stumble on two large creatures destroying a cottage. The two creatures are one-eyed, larger than ogres, and wield axes. They roar in rage upon seeing you.
