Herman the Reclusive
”Fools.” Herman likewise turns his attention towards the sounds of incoming troglodytes. ”But they will not surprise us!”
Readying to cast vomit swarm if two or more troglodytes come within sight to summon a spider swarm on them. Ideally he’d direct it to a bottleneck, but we can’t always get what we want.
GM PDK
After hearing the shouts down south, Dommer sees one of the troglodytes at the bottom of the sloped passage one level below and shoots him in the feet, then right in the throat as he falls over forward. This somehow elicits more shouting, but not from him.
On the west side of the cave, Jestyn plunges back into the stream to help with the Arthur situation.
Herman readies a disturbing spell in case more troglodytes decide to show up.

Jestyn tried cutting the line holding Arthur but was not having any luck due to the friction of the water, and trying to swim in place.
Luke Redwood

Luke tries to cut the line.

Swim for the surface: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Grenwold Houtvester
Grenwold whispers behind him, "we have troglodytes coming - get prepared!"
GM PDK
Jestyn can't get a good angle for his weapon, but Luke splits Arthur's tether in twain. Now free, Arthur goes back to shore to take in a much welcome lungful of air: although the cave reeks, it is some of the sweetest breath he's ever taken in!

Grenwold just continues to ready where he is on the map - would you like me to roll new AOO rolls? I also will ready an attack action if possible... wasn't sure if we were still in combat.

glaive damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Herman the Reclusive
Herman likewise remains watchful, eyes darting back and forth ceaselessly. "They know we're here. They're mustering their forces," he explains to the other members of the party in short, clipped breaths. "Two leaders. Could be anywhere. Keep your eyes open."
Continue to ready action.
GM PDK
Grenwold and Herman stay on their guard, listening to the troglodytes mustering and organizing below.

Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Getting his bearings by letting a small bubble of air out of his mouth Jestyn followed it up to fresh air. Once he got a breath, he swam towards land.

Yeah, still can't think of anything more advantageous so I'll just move further

swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Herman scowls as the muscle-folks keep splashing about in the water. Do they think this is a game? They'll end up as a meal for some large fish living in that water if they keep that up.
Herman continues readying.
Dommer
In silence, the dwarf does a shift over his heels and points the bow to the air, as if ready to shoot. His small eyes seem dangerously focused.
Be ready, me' mates. - he says, almost whispering - 'ay hear som'thing too.
If an enemy appears in his line of sight (darkvision 60 feet), he will shoot
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 Another +1/+1 if within 30 feet
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11
I will collect my arrows once the combat is over or we decide to move out of here. For now, holding my ground.
Grenwold Houtvester
Grenwold keeps readying, though he gives a look to the others and whispers, ”they’re preparing something - maybe we should take the fight to them?”
GM PDK
The heroes get into position. The troglodytes below have gone quiet, but some in the group can still hear the sound of movement down below.

GM, I believe that at your current position on the map we see more to the east then it is shown to us or...
Luke Redwood
Luke picks up his shortbow and puts it over his shoulder. He continues to the east with his sword in hands.
Arthur Alaval
"If they aren't coming out to us, it's time to advance. Everyone ready? Can someone shed some light further in?"
GM PDK
As Arthur and Fizzle begin to chat the sounds from movement down below die down to absolute silence. You must strain your ears to hear anything at this point. Move action required to make Perception checks vs. their Stealth at this time folks!
Fizzle casts light on a pebble and tosses it down the tunnel. Due to the angle of the descending ceiling it doesn't help improving the line of sight.
Round 8 - bold may go

Arthur
Grenwold & Ringo [readying an attack if one comes within reach]
Herman [readying vomit swarm if 2 or more troglodytes show up]

Arthur Alaval
Arthur begins to advance, moving forward and listening for the trogs. . .
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
GM PDK
Arthur moves on to the next room to the east. The stench of death and old blood overwhelms the smell of troglodyte in this chamber. The floor slopes down to the north wall where a narrow underground stream flows past. The sound of running water echoes off the low ceiling, and a burning torch near the stream sends rippling light patterns dancing off the wall. Racks against the walls hold the carcasses of forest creatures, some still draining their life’s blood on the ground, others mere skins left to dry.
Back in the previous room, the rest of the group wait for an assailant that never comes...
Round 9 - bold may go

Dommer [readying to shoot first enemy in sight]
Herman the Reclusive
Herman lets the magic fade from his lips, spitting out an accidental spider leg as he glares down the tunnel where Arthur went. No way I’m following that fool until some other folks‘ve proved it’s safe, he thinks to himself.
Herman’s fine to proceed that way with the group, but certainly isn’t going to be the first person to follow. That’s how people walk into traps and end up dead, after all!
Arthur Alaval
Arthur moves forward and picks up the lit pebble, looking over to Luke trying to gauge which of the two passages ahead the other warrior meant to search next, but still oblivious to the trogs themselves.
Fizzlewumpit Rumpwoggle
|
Fizzle follows Arthur. As he passed Dommer he whispers "If there's any lizards in there don't kill them! Well, if it's a dragon you can! My uncle Snapspringer got eaten by a dragon once..." He continues whispering as he walks.
double move
Dommer
Dommer blinked silently in agreement. He lied down to collect back all his durable arrows, then followed the others to the chamber.
Grenwold Houtvester
Gren and Ringo move along with Arthur, Fizzle, and Luke, and guardedly held is Glaive, waiting to attack any enemy.
Moved on the map to guard Fizzle and Herman (when he moves).

With the group on the move, Jestyn headed in their direction.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
I hope that is the last I see of that roll
Herman the Reclusive
Hearing no immediate screams of pain, Herman follows.
Could be places somewhere in the middle of the ground - just a double move.
GM PDK
Herman lets go of his insect vomit spell but stays behind as the others move on to the next room, alone in the darkness...
Luke Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Luke enters the room and notices that most of the meat hanging on the hooks is fresh and still good to eat, and could feed a large group of people for at least a week; the rotten smell is from unwashed blood and gore on the cave floor...
Arthur moves towards the lit torch and stows away his shield, preparing to grab it on his next turn.
Fizzle and his pet follow Arthur, and Dommer soon follows. Dommer I'm gonna say that was a double move to follow others in the next room to the east as picking up arrows would take a long time since they were not near your square and are in the lower level to the south where you shot that trog.
Ringo swiftly carries Grenwold to the fore of the group, his hooves clattering loudly on the stone floor, drowning any sound the trogs may do in their attempt to remain silent.
Jestyn similarly moves to follow the group, passing Herman and leaving him behind.
Herman and Fizzle finally decide to follow the group as the silence and darkness overtake them. I moved you next to Luke and Dommer, respectively.
Then all Hells break loose! the approaching trogs break stealth from multiple directions, no longer able to contain themselves and attack ferociously!!
First, a monitor lizard arrives from the west, attempting to clamp on Jestyn's leg!
bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Miss!
Next, a long line of troglodytes follow, the first one angling its club for Herman's head!
Yellow club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Herman manages to duck his head partially at the last minute, turning the fatal blow into a nasty gash in the right side of his neck!
The following trogs hang back, and launch a series of... animal bladders!?!!
Blue stench-gas bladder vs. Luke: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Purple stench-gas bladder vs. Herman: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
Brown stench-gas bladder vs. Jestyn: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Teal stench-gas bladder vs. Jestyn: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
All of them miss their mark, except the last one which manages to hit Jestyn squarely in the back of his head! it explodes in a puff of foul smelling gas!
Jestyn Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Jestyn sickened: 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds
Jestyn coughs and gags on the awful stench!!!
To the east, a similar scene unfolds, as multiple troglodytes swarm Grenwold as he tries to fend them off with his glaive. They all dart past his defenses except the second one, who gets snagged viciously in the thigh by the gnome's long blade.
Gray club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Green club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Magenta club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
CONFIRM CRIT Green club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
CONFIRM CRIT Magenta club: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Two trogs manage to land glancing blows on Grenwold, narrowly missing his head!
The next trog coming in the room attempts to launch a stench bladder at Luke!
Red stench-gas bladder vs. Luke: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Luke Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
The bag explodes but Luke manages to avoid breathing in the foul substance.
Then, some kind of frog handler wearing an orange hat arrives and sends his three pets after Luke, hissing Draconic threats against the warrior!
bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
All of them miss their mark, however.
Finally, a very, very large female troglodyte arrives from the east, issuing a roar of defiance to the group! she then launches a javelin at Herman!
javelin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The javelin misses by several feet, but plants itself solidly in the cave wall beyond, hinting at an impressive strength. The female also exudes quite a pungent stench, which is different than the one you've encountered from the smaller trogs! It rolls over you all and hits your nostrils like a truck! err... horse-drawn cart!! Everyone needs to make a Fort save at the beginning of their next turn.

Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Between the filth tossed on him and the trogs stench, Jestyn was not having good day of it as he tried to hit the lizard with his sword.
Curved blade on lizard: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 2 = 71d10 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 2 = 3

Fortitude: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 + 5 = 17 Poison?
Dommer does a step sideways, then flurries against the enemy that previously approached him. He coughs a lot, feeling his lungs being filled by the poisonous stench, and hopes his dwarven resistances can keep him on the fight.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27 PBS, vs. yellow
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 + 1 = 12
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 = 11 PBS, vs. yellow
Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 + 1 = 8
I added the bonus vs. poison, assuming the fortitude we're rolling is for stench. If I failed the save, please reduce my attacks above accordingly.
GM PDK
Dommer doesn't like the smell, but he's smelt worse. Despite the crowded room, one of his arrows manages to land into an excited trog and about a pint of blood sprays out and into Herman's face as a result. The arrow appears lodged in the creature's heart but... somehow... the thing is still up, screaming in protest!
