Hey folks. Sorry for disappearing. Some of you know from other games, but I completely forgot to leave notice on the Paizo boards.

We had some fairly significant family medical issues, including a rather traumatic and unexpected death. There were some other things as well, but with the holidays on top of it all, I think I'll have managed to get my feet under me by the new year. This week is scheduled to be pretty chill after tomorrow, so I expect to be able to use some of the time to get caught up (the rest of it will be recovery).

Again, my apologies for ghosting without real warning.

I'm wondering if people want to pursue that avenue, since Illendur would want to invest and make coin off it, but if people aren't interested as much we could focus on making more money for other things?

That's a little under 1100gp all-in. A fair chunk of change for a 1st-level party, but doable. Of course, that's just repairs/furnishings. I'm sure there will be all kinds of fees, donations, and other "purely out of the goodness of our hearts" costs associated with actually starting a business...

Also, 'Zander has climb, Know:Engineering, and Craft:Armor, so could either prove useful/helpful and able to help bring costs down by working when everyone else is sleeping OR he could offend the guilds by offering, which might drive prices up...

Zander would be very supportive of the idea of going into business - especially if that business allowed him to observe/interact with humanoids socially.

Also, he'll want that upper turret room, so he can observe the city when he's not being the bouncer downstairs.

Also-also, yeah, I think the first order of business is to get the place liveable, then worry about turning it into a business.

I'm sure there will be some suggestion that orphans might find the place a nice step up from the streets and gutters, as well...


Leasing out the first floor to someone else to run as a tavern is an interesting idea. Sort of the 'kingdom in the background' idea from Kingmaker. You guys would make less money but it would also be less day to day hassle.

Zander is also right that your PCs own skills could lower some of those costs if you spend the time IC and do some of the work yourselves.

Also, don't forget that this is a modern-ish society and debt is a thing. You could go to Kundarak for a commercial loan or Illendur could maybe approach Phiarlan for startup money for an entertainment venue or your new noble friends Ammalia ir'Cassalanter or Renaer ir'Nelview could front you.

It's also possible word of your good works might get around and job offers might come your way in the near future.

I'm happy to let you guys discuss IC for a while; you can tell me when you're ready to skip forward a bit once we nail down what you want to do.

I have realized that the way I set this character sheet up, while seemingly convenient at the time, is a disaster. I'm re-building it from the ground up (though keeping all of the original character choices). This is taking me longer than expected, because I wasted a full day trying to make the old one work. (This is the danger of a class and archetype that is the epitome of "flexible options.").

Not complaining, just letting you know why it's taking so long to get done.

@Karl - I'll always have his "Current Configuration" visible, along with the appropriate quick stats. If you need info that isn't readily visible there, check the related spoiler tag for whichever Configuration he's in. All the stats that would change based on configuration will be found there (including Max HP, Saves, Attacks, Defenses, etc.).

Skills are all in one place, and should be pretty obvious, but of course if you have questions at all, you can always ask. (If I was playing this character at a table, I'd basically have 4 different sheets for him).


This is why I love playing with you, Zander. :) Sounds good!

If you're in agreement about making repairs on the building, we can do a timeskip/montage.

I'm also open to individual PCs using Downtime rules for themselves if anyone wants to do that.

I'm good with pouring in the silver we'd acquired and fencing those paintings (especially if they aren't nice to put up in the new house!). I'll put up an IC post tomorrow trying to get some resources together, and make a downtime roll to help boost what we're doing for the house.

If we're doing the repair stuff, Zander has a Climb of +8 and a Craft:Carpentry of +7


A +7 bonus is nearly what you'd find on an expert craftsman (assuming an Expert NPC with average stats and Skill Focus: Craft), so you can probably get away with doing your own carpentry.

I kind of love how terrible we are at talking to people mechanically, yet we seem to pull it off more often than not....

It's kind of the opposite of a party I played with in a TT game. We were all built to be good talkers (well, everyone except the Dwarf cleric of Bahamut). We would unfailingly spend half of every gaming session trying to talk our way through encounters, and just as unfailingly, wind up fighting.

It became a thing.

That, and amazingly somehow defeating encounters that were supposed to be "clearly too dangerous to survive" - usually by accident.

So, if all goes well, he gets the note, checks his trail, finds out that there's been an elf, furry-dude, ratfolk, and a half-orc asking about him at the front desk, and either returns Max to her stable, or uses her to drive by carriage to the Manor, where Zander "helps him understand the situation" in a way that causes the party to no longer need to follow him around.

Or, the note causes him to panic, and the team mugs him in the alley while he's trying to escape on Max's back. :-)

Why not a combination of the above? We can try and get in first, and if that doesn't pan out, we can wait outside for Zander's letter/regular outings to reveal Maxeene. We do have a description of Maxeene, right??

Hey team!

Because Zander is kind of a linear thinker, he's likely to try to solve the Maxeene issue by just buying her contract from the rental agency and "putting her to work" for the Manor.

Karl suspects we have the cash on hand for it, based on what Goggh should have gotten for us by fencing things.

2 Questions:

1) Does anyone object to the idea of the group owning the contract on a talking investigative horse and her cat familiar (think of the RP/plot hook possibilities!!!)?

2) If we're OK with Zander solving the problem (and obtaining an ally) with money, are we saying that we've been keeping the party fund of cash under a floorboard in the manor somewhere?
