The Unloved Ones - Bloodlines and Black Magic
Game Master
Patrick Curtin
A modern day occult horror game. Uses Bloodlines and Black Magic PF 1 system
This is only tangentially-related, but I couldn't figure out anywhere else to post this--
I've read or listened to Neil Gaiman's American Gods four or five times over the years, and every time I pick up new stuff. Frankly, I'm amazed that I didn't notice this one earlier:
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
That really is a great book. I need to get an audio of it and listen to it
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Hi folks. Yet another update. It seems like my schedule for posting - at least battle posting - seems to be falling mostly in the Thurs-Fri zone. I will still update when there isn’t major number crunching to do on other days, except Saturday and Sunday which seem to be the worst days now.
Thank you all for staying the course with me. I appreciate it. :)
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Just a heads up - I will be traveling this weekend, so posting might be spotty. However, I might have some time to check in, we’ll see

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Dinner was a success. Everything made it into plates without burning, drying, melting, or falling. I hope everyone else’s went well too.
We’ll pick up tomorrow!

Human psychic (burning mind) 2
The party currently consists of Velma, Daphne, and Fred, so I built Shaggy. I don't think I've ever played a pure spellcaster before, which means this is going to be weird.

Ok. I’m going to fire up an intro for you.
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Intro is up. Take a look and see what you think.
Patrick Curtin wrote: Ok. I’m going to fire up an intro for you. Damn, that was fast...
I was honestly just posting here to bump the thread and let the other players have a look, I kind of figured Coyote wouldn't get introduced until after this encounter.
For now, he might just hang back and watch, unless you had something in mind.
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
I figure, why not get him integrated? I mean, he’s going to be waiting for a while if he waits. You know how PbP be. But, you can hang back if you like. Whatever you feel comfortable with
Fun fact: the character's name was supposed to be just "Coyote," but for some reason, the alias creation system wouldn't let me use it. I ended up picking randomly from a list of the most common US surnames, and for some reason, it let me use "Coyote Jones."

Probably because someone else already went with the name. It won't allow duplicates, but a symbol, or variant spelling works. Otherwise you have to keep trying until the name is unique enough to work.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Hey all. Apologies for the silence. A confluence of bad things, work issues, and holiday obligations conspired to keep me off the boards this past week. However, I should have some time available Thursday-Friday to update. Stay tuned.
Male Celestial Cleric of Myself 10/Radiant Servant of Me 10
We are second level, not first!
We are! And I believe we get a passive Will save against detect thoughts. If not, ignore both Miren's saves.
Miren's Perception rolls are regarding the well, not any onlookers.

Not going to lie, this downtime has been giving me way too much time to figure out how to horribly abuse the prestidigitation spell in a modern setting...
Male Celestial Cleric of Myself 10/Radiant Servant of Me 10
That’s a completely valid line of thought. Best cantrip for real life.
Celestial Healer wrote: That’s a completely valid line of thought. Best cantrip for real life. Lots of abuse potential...
What's really going to get nuts though is once we hit third level, I can start burning hit points for more spell slots.

Merry Yule all!
Today on this shortest day of the year, I’d like to wish you all peace and success in the coming Winter season.
I’m headed on the road for the Yule weekend, so posting might be spotty. At this point you can possibly do some RP with Coyote coming into the scene. I’ll be back full bore by next Wednesday

Nace Bishop wrote: ”Enlighten us then. What do you call all this weird s+#!? What do you see when you look at this well?” I'm getting this strange sense of deja vu...
Also, what did Coyote see from his Pierce the Veil earlier?
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Sorry folks. Had a rough trip back from New England. Just getting back in the swing of things
Coyote sees that the well the three people are around is leaking dark energy of some sort. It is manifesting itself as black oozy tentacles. I don’t know your Knowledge skills - but if you have arcana you can use it to analyze what you see.

It seems like Coyote's defining character trait is quickly becoming "never rolls above 10 on a 20-sided die."
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
So, a standard character?

lol.
Sorry, been sick the last few days.

I can't believe I watched that whole thing...

Yeah … we seem to be stuck. Do we want to go forward? I COULD brute force things, if that would help

We may just need a nudge that will push Coyote in our direction.
I can try to come up with something quick, I just got knocked a little off-balance by someone calling a crazy homeless guy "Mr. Cool." (Maybe it's the avatar picture? It was the only one I could find with sunglasses. Picture less secret agent man, more Skinny Pete from Breaking Bad.)
Also, is it OK to make a small edit to my character sheet?
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Given that Coyote has some prior experience with the undead, would he know whether or not he could use detect thoughts to gain any information from this guy?
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
He would know some undead have thought, and others don't. He could certainly try.

Hey folks. Just as a heads up I am off to my Mardi gras adventure today. I’ll be spotty in posting for about a week. Have a good one!
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Hi folks. Another update: coming back from New Orleans I was hit with a massive backlog at work. I hope I will have some breathing space tomorrow to update our battle soon.
Patrick Curtin wrote: Hi folks. Another update: coming back from New Orleans I was hit with a massive backlog at work. I hope I will have some breathing space tomorrow to update our battle soon. No worries, on top of my winter closing shifts at the factory, I had a side job doing some demolition work for a few days, so I was basically a zombie all week.

I had a really hard week, and I am just rolling into my normal 12-hour shifts on the weekend, so we'll pick up Monday likely
The way I understood detect thoughts to read was that you have to be concentrating for 3 or more rounds, and the Will save was only for the effect starting on the third round:
Round 1- detects presence or absence of thoughts (no save)
Round 2- detects number of minds and their Intelligence scores (no save)
Round 3- detects surface thoughts (Will save negates)
Basically, for the first two rounds you're just perceiving your surroundings, and the Will save only triggers when you actually try to dig into someone's head.
Normally, I'd just let stuff like this slide, but considering this is a major class feature, I'd rather we hash out exactly how it works sooner rather than later.
DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE
Absolutely. Let me look over the info I posted under my rules lawyer avatar
EDIT: You are entirely correct sir. I missed that bit in the read. Only trying to actually read thoughts themselves on rd 3 triggers the save. I stand corrected
