Vinnick Varzel |

Vinnick likewise will give a longer than quick look over the books and alchemical area. Maybe, I have dabbled in alchemy, though I never saw any real potential in it. Though I've heard of many making great uses of it with only minor magical aid.
detect magic, can one take 10 on spellcraft? just in case anything pings

Coriandrinne "Cori" Vespida |

Cori nods to Stanislav.
“Let’s go,” she replies.
If the stair is too narrow for them to move up them side by side, she takes the lead position. She assumes that he, being taller and with longer arms would be able to reach past her in the narrow confines.

Slid readies his daggers, unsure of how to help.

![]() |

Slid has an idea and says "I can impersonate the guard we saw. Make them try to peek in. They'll be long gone when they realize what happened".

Stanislav Greymist |

Highest point in the place. I'd put my money on a wizard's quarters up there. I say lets just rush in and do what we do. Anyone good at grappling? Too bad we don't have our ogre.

![]() |

Slid says "It'll be clumsy to fight with one person on the stairs. It's actually a huge advantage for them. Maybe we want to take a peak first? I can do it quietly."
Slid waits for the steps to move away from the trap door and opens it slightly and silently to give a look.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Ooof, of course it did

Vinnick Varzel |

Vinnick will grab up the magical items incase they come in handy, along with the book.
When vinnick hears about rushing a wizard he turns to the others. Are you sure that is wise? We don't have any idea how strong this wizard could be, if it works, we may get a nice treat, but I certainly can't help against any of his magic at this point. I'd rather simply collect our captain and make our escape. Especially since we already have a few nice treats here.

Coriandrinne "Cori" Vespida |

"We're wasting time here," Cori says as the debate continues. "If we're going to go kill this guy, we need to go up now. Of course, if he is a wizard, he's just going to throw a blast of fire, or frost or lightning down the stairs at us as soon as one of us opens that door. But, if we head back down, and make a break for the nearest exit with our ogre-friend smashing and trampling everything and everyone in front of us, we can make it out of here before a general alarm is raised."
She looks at the others and gives an expectant shrug.

Arielle Windsong |

"I can't think of anything up there that would be worth the risk of running into a fully prepared wizard. Not to mention that wizard battles can attract attention. Let's just get going and make our escape before the next guard shift comes around and sees what's happened."

R'yzzntyg Valignatirnarod |

While the others are deciding what to do and Vinnick collecting items, she quickly scans the room for any books regarding dragons.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Arielle Windsong |

Arielle whispers, "I bet Blackerly is a man, do one of you guys want to try answering back or should we just beat it back down the stairs? He sounds old, he's definitely a wizard."

R'yzzntyg Valignatirnarod |

She quickly grabs the Magical Beasts, history and origins book with her remaining free hand, thinking to herself, Wonder what this book has on dragons.
She waits by the stairs with Vinnick and the ogre, waiting for the rest.

![]() |

Slid considers answering back and has a perfect answer. He says loudly impersonating a guard "I'm sorry, sir. We thought you called for us. I'll be on my way now."
Disguise (impersonate): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Arielle Windsong |

Arielle will turn and head back down the stairs, towards Grumblejack, counting herself lucky that the wizard believed the rushed bluff. Once out of the hearing range of the wizard, "Let's hope we didn't just use up all our luck for tonight. We still have to make our way out of this place."

![]() |

I called disguise because there is a specific use of it, to impersonate someone else, but my bluff is higher than my disguise so it's all the same at this time
Slid goes down with the others and, once he meets Grumblejack, he says "Sorry big fella, we thought we'd find something useful here, but there was only trouble. We won't leave you again." He wasn't sure whether this was true, but it felt like an appropriate thing to say.

Stanislav Greymist |

Agreed. Vinnick What all did you find? Is there anything that is immediately useful to us?

Vinnick Varzel |

Vinnick looks over the items found. starting with the items before moving on to the scrolls.
spellcraftbook: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
spellcraftioun: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
spellcraftscroll1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
spellcraftscroll2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
spellcraftscroll3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
spellcraftscroll4: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
I'm checking, though I wouldn't hold my breath for much.

![]() |

FYI, Slid is not going to risk 70% chance of blowing up his pretty face for that book, not to mention I traded trapfinding for bonus on disguise. Also, the blowing up would call the attention of the wizard.

Vinnick Varzel |

worry not, don't plan to open the book here. Once we get out I can scribe the knock spell eventually, or get someone else to risk their face opening it haha.
Hmmm. Somewhat yes, however these two scrolls I cannot use. Has anyone here studied in enchantment magic? This is a scroll of Sleeping, and this of hideous laughter. Both potentially useful. The other two seem less useful immediately, considering one I'm not sure of, and while the last can render someone invisible, It is only one of us.
Oh, did you want spellcrafts for the scrolls I pulled off from the cloak?

![]() |

Once everyone is down with him and the ogre, Slid asks Vinnick assuming he heard that last one "Pray tell me how a laughter can be hideous."

Vinnick Varzel |

Vinnick smirks at the question. because, normally when ones is laughing from this spell, they can't stop a blade from finding their throat. Or stand really for that matter. A hideous sight to others, and often a hideous outcome for the one laughing.

![]() |

Slid says "I might be weird, then. I find that beautiful. Unless it happens to me, though."

DireMerc |

Still unknown
Without much other choice you go back to the now empty guard room and check the staircase and you hear some guards a the top of the stairs.
“That Blackerly is a damned thief! That game was rigged!”
“If it’s rigged, why do you keep going back to the gatehouse then?”
“The beer’s passable.” A laugh is heard.
“Drinkin’ on duty! Damn, this place has gone to hell. Captain Callidan would have never tolerated that crap. That’s for sure!”
“Captain Callidan … he left, what? Two years ago?”
“Almost three and since then the place has been straight down the s*+$ter. That old wizard never leaves his tower. He stays up there reading his books and petting his owl!”
“Petting his owl? Is that what they call it these days?”
The guards enjoy a bit of a laugh.

Coriandrinne "Cori" Vespida |

Cori looks up at Grumblejack and nods her head towards the noise, as if to say, you wanna kill'em, or should I?
She adjusts her grip on the halberd, and coils slightly, like a predatory cat ready to pounce.

![]() |

Slid motions them to calm down. "Careful, we don't know how many there are. Also, we'd be fighting from a funnel. Let me get close and try to see. They seem to be drunk and there's much chance they'll miss me."
Slid then, creeps up the stairs and takes a look while hiding.

The two guards are coming down the hall moving towards the stairs as Slid is moving up the stairs. One is not particularly paying attention but the other still happens to look at the right time to notice Slid.
"Hey! A Prisoner escaped his cell!" he yells clumsily fumbling for his weapon.

Will update a map for now we have a staircase bit enough for a large creature slid is at the top

Coriandrinne "Cori" Vespida |

”Dammit!” Cori curses, and moves down the stairs as quickly as she can.
If she is within range, she lashes out at the nearest guard with her halberd.
Attack with halberd: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

![]() |

As Cori acts, Slid takes advantage of the guards' slowness and attacks
I didn't find the map with the combat happening. Assuming I can 5ft step to get to the closest guard. If not, then move to flank with Cori and only give 1 attack
Attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d8 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 3 = 10

Arielle Windsong |

If it is possible for Arielle to get into a position to attack a guard, she will using the longsword she took off on of the dead guard.

Slid rushes forward and attacks but misses.
Cori moves up and lands a hit.
Grumblejack quickly moves up and delivers a face shattering punch to the unhurt guard who falls in a heap
Stanis moves up and land a solid blow dropping the other guard before he can act.
Both guards are down and for the moment it doesn't look like anyone else is coming.
You now have a choice between two doors on the left, one on the right or the double doors straight ahead. (see map for visual)

Coriandrinne "Cori" Vespida |

"You want one of their breastplates?" Cori asks Stanislav. "I'll help you get one on. It might be crucial if the fighting gets thicker from here on."
While he considers, she reaches down and unbuckles a longsword and fastens it around her waist.
"Never hurts to have a back-up weapon."

R'yzzntyg Valignatirnarod |

She simply sighs when she hears a guard yelling, and simply follows the group up the stairs trying to be centred of the back line, to heal them if required. Also preparing to drop the 2 bags of coins, and her new book if she has to cast her spells.
Once the battle is done, Good job everyone. Making it quick.
She searches the area and the guards for items.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
She must be terribly distracted to focus on searching.

Arielle Windsong |

Arielle looks over the options. "Small doors for side rooms or less public hallways, large door for hallways or rooms that see more traffic. Did anyone see which door the guards came out of?"

![]() |

Slid turns to Grumblejack and says with a smirk "Feel better?"
He pats the guards to find their money pouch and then replies to Arielle "I'm always for the less public hallways when I'm trying to escape a prison", as if escaping prisons were something he did every week. He continues "Let's look into each door before deciding."
Slid takes opens every small door slightly to look what's inside. If any of them are locked, he tries the set of keys found in the room before.

Stanislav Greymist |

Yes. thank you Cori. As Cori assists Stanislav into the armor she will likely note the slowing healing wound on is neck - two small puncture marks spaced a little less than 2 inches apart. He too will strap on a sword, and assuming these guys were similarly equipped offer Grumblejack a halberd. I prefer the door on the right for some reason. Just a feeling.

Vinnick Varzel |

I would suggest not going through the double doors yet, and not doing so without caution. I'd wager that, as suggested, it leads to more common patrol areas. Though it likely leads towards the exit as well. Let us make sure we do not get caught from both sides.

Slid tries the set of keys found in the guards room on the doors.
