Sorry, busy day.
Bazerofan walks past the mantis to Themolin, saying to it: "Sounds like they have it under control. Maybe next time." It moves as if to follow the others, but he dismisses it with a flute-pat on the shoulder while drawing a wand with his other hand.
Baz: Stride, Stride, Interact (draw wand of soothe).

![]() |

Is Themolin providing any explanation of what is happening?
Highwire looks startled at the disappearance of the mantis, smiling at Bazerofan. "Impressive ..."

![]() |

When you finish untying Themolin, he says, "Thank the Peacock Spirit. He was going to kill me, I am sure of it. Barrablus has always acted as if I was a rival, but honestly I don't understand why!"
"You meddling idiots!" yells Barrablus at you all. "Do you even know who you are dealing with?"
He casts electric arc, catching both Erryn and Tanaka in its arc.
electricity: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
reflex Erryn: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 half
reflex Tanaka: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 half
Let me know if you want to use a hero point on these

Sure, why not! I'll use a hero point on my save. Hard to do worse than a 4.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Does that make it? It's pretty high, but it's 1 less than Tanaka and it looks like you did full damage on the tracker. He also had a Retributive Strike reaction, not sure if that hit or if the damage he did was enough to drop the caster. Assuming I make the save and Tanaka protects me from harm, I should come out of it with just 1 damage.

![]() |

The retributive strike should hit, but is lacking the flat check afaict.
Just in case...
Fortiva feints against the trapped wizard, then stabs at him twice.
Deception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 heh, noooo
Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 piercing damage.
Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Strike: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 5 = 18 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 piercing damage.

Ignoring the tumult on the other side of the crates for a moment, the wizard gives the hostage a quick once-over and decides he's not in mortal danger. Then he turns and goes around to where the others are still fighting and asks: "Everything good back here?"
Two strides and I'll forgo my third action.

![]() |

Erryn still did not make it, sorry.
1d20 ⇒ 20
Tanaka's retibutive strike does hit, and then with Fortiva's second attack, the man falls to the ground, bleeding out.
Themolin thanks you for saving him, and pulls out a collection of artwork from the crates as his payment to Guaril.
On Barrablus and the guards, you find a spellbook, a staff, a couple of rapiers, and a couple of short bows.
2nd blur, flaming sphere, resist energy;
1st command, grease, gust of wind, magic missile;
Cantrips electric arc, mage hand, produce flame, ray of frost, sigil
Themolin offers his warehouse as a safehouse if you need it.

![]() |

No worries! Just wanted to be sure.
Wincing, Erryn shakes out her hand, trying to loosen fingers stiffened by the wizard's final jolt of electricity. While the others are busy looting and securing the place, she checks Themolin for any injuries and sets about patching up the wounds on herself, Fortiva, and Tanaka.
Medicine to Treat Wounds, Erryn: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Medicine to Treat Wounds, Fortiva: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Medicine to Treat Wounds, Tanaka: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Healing to Erryn: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 6) = 13
Healing to Tanaka: 2d8 ⇒ (6, 7) = 13
While her own and Tanaka's injuries prove to be much less severe than they initially appeared, the magical blows Fortiva sustained prove to be somewhat trickier to deal with. "Let's see how this poultice holds, and I'll check it again in an hour or so."

![]() |

"What of these men? What was their intention? Were they aware of your plan to escape? Could they have alerted anyone else?" Highwire looks around nervously.

![]() |

As the battle end, Tanaka clean his katana then sheathes it.
While Erryn is patching people, Tanaka will be praying to Shizune and laying on hand to anyone not completely cured.
So use lay on hands on Themolin if needed, then spend 10 minutes to refocus, then lay on hands on Fortiva, then spend 10 minutes to refocus.

![]() |

As Tanaka starts to lay on hands, Themolin comments, "Are you going to be staying the night here? After all, you'll need to be off the streets in under an hour, what with the curfew and all!"

![]() |

"There is. But even that has a chance of running into trouble. We might be safer here."
Fortiva looks around the warehouse as Erryn attempts to bind her wounds, and smiles at Tanaka in relief as his healing magic flows through her.
"Staying here might work to our advantage... we'll know by morning if Barrablus ratted Themolin - or us - out before coming here, and we might be able to use something from this warehouse to construct our raft. Or similarly aid in getting to the boat."
Are there stores of rope or carpentry tools or even just a decent quantity of wood that we could prepare and then bundle up for easy transport? Too much to ask for a Feather Token?

![]() |

Erryn turns to Themolin and asks, "Is anyone likely to come looking for your friends? Would they think to look here?"

![]() |

The team looks around, and there is definitely plenty of crates that they could turn into rafts and the like. Tools are a little more sparse, but you know you could use your repair kits as well as the few things you find here.
Themolin goes to the office in the warehouse and brings down a variety of foodstuffs, including some tinned meats, dried fruits, and a couple of bottles of mead.

![]() |

I thought he answered this question above. And the guards were women.
"As I said, Barrablus was always jealous of me. He must have suspected something of me. The women were probably just hired help."

![]() |

Highwire frowns. "So this had nothing to do with your plan to leave town? His confrontation with you here, when you were meeting us, was a mere coincidence?" He shakes his head. "When neither you nor Barrablus show up at the ministry of tithes tomorrow, it will perhaps draw attention ..." He glances around at the others.

![]() |

Erryn looks at Themolin very intently, clearly skeptical.
I'd like to make a Sense Motive check on him, please. +7 Perception.

![]() |

Erryn shrugs, choosing to take the man at his word. Looking toward Barrablus and his hired help, she asks, "Has anyone checked to see if they're dead, or just unconscious? I think we should grab what we can and go, lingering about the scene of a fight like this any longer than necessary doesn't feel like a wise choice."

![]() |

"While I'd rather not think about what the bodies might smell like in the morning, I don't favor the idea of trudging back to the inn either - through the sewers at night. A lot of people are showing up there tomorrow - hate to draw undue attention to it now.
And hey, if it's a surprise that this Barrablus knew about the warehouse, then I doubt anyone else will be coming here. Plus, let's face it, we could use the extra time and materials."
Tanaka, what's the healing from your Lay On Hands? Or is it safe to assume that we'll have time to recover all lost hit points at this stage?

![]() |

Highwire nods. "I agree. I think we are safer staying here for the night. We should perhaps place the bodies in one of these crates, to delay their discovery ... and perhaps to help contain the smell a bit."

![]() |

Highwire also helps hide the bodies, doing what he can to securely wrap them in cloth or leathers, if any such things can be found, to try to contain the smell. He is, after all, completely useless at any effort to build portable rafts ... though once done moving the bodies, he will offer to help move or hold the building materials, while the Craft-adept among them perform the nailing and such.

![]() |

Lay on hands at 1st level heals 6 HP.
Ryū’s listening to every side of the conversation thinking it might be best not to stay there due to the fight. “I’m not worried about getting in a fight in the sewers, but rather to get lost in them.”
He’s also thinking about the nearby warehouse, maybe the fight was overheard. He asks Themolin “Are the closest buildings occupied? Could we have been overheard?”

![]() |

With little to offer in regards to hiding the bodies or making use of the building materials, Erryn keeps an eye on the warehouse's surroundings.

![]() |

As you noticed on the way in most of the local buildings are pretty dilapidated. "No, that's why I can afford this warehouse. This area still hasn't recovered from being brought forward in time."
Craft check to create a raft. Does require some tools, at least a repair kit. Society to forge documents (requires tools, but Flich gave you one kit). Each person can take one of these activities while you hide out here.
"If you do decide to create some rafts, you could store them here. Then, the morning after next, we could come back, and then sneak them through the sewers to your destination."

![]() |

Looks like we have some folks with Crafting but nobody with a repair kit. I do believe we'll have to source one from the city.

![]() |

Yeah, easy to gloss over when not a single pre-built kit (or the adventurer's pack) comes with one, despite the need for it to fix a shield.
Fortiva has some basic tools in her climbing kit (hammer, chiefly) plus a crowbar.

![]() |

"Well, without tools, I can't assemble a decent raft, even if we could get one from here to the rendezvous, which means there's little benefit to staying here. I for one would rather not risk being discovered with these bodies. Better to be charged with breaking curfew than with murder."

![]() |

"You need tools? I can probably go out and pick some up for you if you need." says Themolin. "After all, I am not affected by the same curfew as you. Just make a list, and it shouldn't take me long to get them for you."
If you want, you can buy the tools you need. Themolin won't even charge you for getting them for you!

![]() |

Highwire raises an eyebrow at Bozerofan. "You get the impression there are regular police patrols in this neighborhood? I imagine that we would be safe enough here." He goes and checks the doors, to be sure they are closed. He pulls a crate in front of the door that he punched partially open, as added security.
Highwire turns to Themolin. "The wizard yelled 'Do you know who you are dealing with ...' ... Is that merely his narcissism, or is he actually an important person? Will his absence, along with yours, be noted? Does he have staff at his home who will notice that he does not return tonight?"
I think getting the tools and making the rafts here make the most sense, if that seems viable to someone with Crafting. Staying here seems the safer play to sneaking through the sewers after curfew. Of course, sending Themolin out could potentially draw attention, I suppose ... but we don't have any other access to raft-making resources, so far as I know.

Agreed. It's the best of a few not-great choices. And I'm including letting him go out and buy tools.

![]() |

"I don't see a better option," Erryn says, resigning herself to sending out their rescued hostage on a shopping trip.

![]() |

”Is there anything else I can pick up while I am out there?” he asks.
who is buying a repair kit? He can pick up anything else for you. Note, doing the work can be done with improvised tools, but at a -2

![]() |

Replying to Themolin, Ryū says “I would like a writing kit please.”
Assuming Aid can be used to help forge the document, he will help whoever does that. (most of us have a +4 Society but as he has a +4 to aid, that makes more sense for him to help. So +8 at the check to help, but it is a secret one.

![]() |

Looking back, it seems that you have a disguise kit and a repair kit from Flitch.
A writing kit would be 1gp.
If anyone else wants something, go ahead and let me know, we'll assume he picks it up.
If you are making forgeries, please let me know who for, and what your bonus is. Aid another is possible, but remember that is a DC20 check in and of itself for a +1, with a penalty for a critical failure.

![]() |

Highwire, unable to help with either the forgery or the building of rafts, consults with the group away from Themolin. "I fear that this situation means that Themolin's continued presence becomes a liability. When he doesn't show up at work, people might begin looking for him, so we cannot have him on the docks. We need the two children, one of their parents, and Themolin to leave on Rolanna's Prayer, then. That leaves one spot ... my inclination would be to offer it to the dwarven girl, but ... I fear that we won't have options for our giant friend. Any suggestions for an alternative plan?"

![]() |

"Let's not make things harder for ourselves than we have to. For one, why would he not return to work in the morning?
For another, even if he didn't, do we really think he is important enough to be recognized or stopped by guards that don't work near the ministry?"

![]() |

Ryû gives a gold piece to Themolin for the writing kit.
While Themolin is out to get the writing kit, he indicates to his companiion “He could also take a leave of absence, invoking family matters, or just pretend he is ill. What was the name of the disease the daughter of the tavern owner caught? It is an infectious disease, it makes sense for him to be in quarantine.”

![]() |

I'll be AFK until tomorrow, but I think all I have to contribute is a crafting check, so I'll provide it now:
Crafting: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
heck, this seems important so I'll spent my point:
Crafting: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Oh, well.

![]() |

Themolin comes back with the requested tools, as well as a bucket of ale. He is willing to do whatever you tell him.
Baserofan spends eight hours, before going to sleep, working on a raft, but when he is done, he is pretty sure that what he has will not float.
Erryn, Kain, HIghwaire, Fortiva, Tanaka, are you going to try any checks? Note that the crafting is not secret, but the forging is.

![]() |

Everyone's at full HP, and Guidance only works once an hour on a single check made in the next round, so unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute here. I'm going to change my prepared spells for the next day, though.
1st Magic Weapon, Ray of Enfeeblement
Cantrips Daze, Detect Magic, Forbidding Ward, Guidance, Shield
