It would be a lot more frustrating at a F2F table at a Con with tighter time constraints.
That's how I experienced this scenario - it was pretty confusing. I thought it would work better in pbp. plus I wanted a better understanding of the story, so I decided to offer it as an Outpost game.

A couple of the reasons I prefer PbP. Opportunity to fully realize a scenario's content, including the lore and backstory, as well as the time to work out sometimes-confusing kinks in the mechanics.
Sir Hayden Greyrun

i would really find it hard to GM the scenario f2f. I would need to write out opening and counters for each tactic so I don't just stare blankly and say something incoherent.
Dale the Sage
|
Really enjoyed the debate. Kinda sad we each only got to make one got at it.
As far as the circlet, someone should put that to use as I'm sure it'll help with the puppets. Dale already has a lesser one, so count him out of the running.

Wow, we all tanked those SM rolls!
Maybe the team's own wayang will bail us out. (Looking at you, Tenebri.) ;-)
| GM supervillan |
I'll move you on to the feast and puppet show tomorrow.
Last chance for commemorative tattoos :o
Dana Katsu
|
This is really one of the few encounters I know where a skill challenge and a fight are mixed!
Mishka Krieger
|
Sir Hayden, is your life link with Krieger still active?
If my math is correct, Krieger had lost 8hp, you noted he would heal 5, then he suffered 1 sonic damage last round. I'm tracking -4hp right now.
| GM supervillan |
I think Hayden said he'd drop the life link as an immediate action once the first sonic burst went off. This post. Technically one round late, but I'd allow it.
Dana Katsu
|
Dana can also heal if necessary.
Dale the Sage
|
Considering the complicated-ness of this battle we should really come up with a plan of attack here.
Bright light would be good, I think Dale has a sunrod at least and an ioun torch.
Dale's bombs would probably do decent damage against it if I can hit it.
Dale does have the best skill bonus for the puppet show though. We could possibly pull one person off the puppet show to help fight Mr Gorilla?
Thoughts.
Tenibri
|
Tenibri is fine at the puppet show (+10 bonus), but definitely not in the best three (+13 or better). I don't mind bringing him back into the puppet show if someone else is better situated to fight.
After he drops a pit under the shadow beast (next round), he's going to be mostly out of options. The shadow snakes were resistant to cold, so I'm assuming the larger beast will be similar (and I see that Dale just confirmed that), and snowball is Tenibri's best direct damage spell.
He can always summon more help, of course. A summon III has the potential to bring up to three fire elementals which could cause it difficulty.

Regarding Faction Missions:
Did we find anything to complete this goal?
Recover a named text (typically listed in italics or quotes) found during the course of an adventure.
If not then Dale would like to complete the following goal, recruiting Eynemb to the Dark Archives. Taking 10 on K Arcana Dale more than meets the DC. He'd like the chance to put the man's talents to use, and bring his unique skills to the Dark Archive of course!
(1/2)Recruit a named NPC scholar, knowledgeable spellcaster, or similar figure to the Dark Archive. Recruitment requires a successful Diplomacy or Knowledge (arcana) check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.
| GM supervillan |
No named texts Dale, but Eynemb is a great fit for Dark Archive: a renowned scholar (and spellcaster), and also slightly Lawful Evil ;) (he's a level 7 Shadow Puppeteer Bard in high tier).
Tenibri
|
Tenibri will forego his downtime to complete a faction goal.
Forego your Downtime to nonviolently fight for the cause of liberty by spending time organizing protests, freeing slaves, or distributing revolutionary material. Doing so requires a successful Disable Device, Knowledge (local), or Stealth check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.
This takes the place of his day job check from the beginning; please do not give Tenibri any day job $$ on the chronicle sheet. I will, however, reuse that die roll:
Knowledge (local) DC 20: 13 + 10 = 23

We're almost done now - I'll get chronicles done by early part of next week I think.
You can now make Outpost boon rolls. Roll a d20 - you qualify for a boon on a result of 19 or 20. If you roll a 19 or 20 then you should also roll a d3 to determine which boon. I have to report boon results with the rest of my reporting.
GM gets to roll too:
boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Dana Katsu
|
boon???: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Wow! : 1d3 ⇒ 3
Vlazis 'The Beloved' Chibuzo
|
Boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Hey!!
| GM supervillan |
Vlazis boon number: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Boon Winners, I will need your email addresses please. I have to submit these with the game report so that you can get your boons. You can pm me.
Working on chronicles tonight :)

You all earned full Prestige. Your primary success condition is defeating / banishing the shadow beast and helping the wayangs finish their ritual. The secondary success condition is maintaining trust with the wayangs (its a measure the GM tracks based on your actions) and either losing the debate gracefully or avoiding killing any of the gladiators.
The game has also been reported.
I hope you had fun - I thought you were very well equipped to deal with the challenges and I enjoyed running this for you. Once the prep is done for the verbal duel it's pretty straightforwards for PbP.
I'll leave the campaign open for a few days to make sure everybody has had a chance to check their chronicles, and for any last closing rp in Gameplay.

Thanks, GM, the Chronicle looks good.
It was a pleasure to play at your table. I appreciate your skill as a GM and the players who enjoy real role-playing.

Chronicle looks good - thanks so much for running, GM, and thanks to everyone else for being such a fun table!
