'The Fort' is a gathering point for settlers, reckless traders and devil may care explorers who do business in the lands outside those covered by the dubious protection of the Emperor. Not surprisingly it is also a gathering place for mercenaries and ne'er do wells... as well as self styled warriors of fortune called 'Adventurers'.

Overshadowing 'The Fort' is 'The Hill'. This mysterious mountain has long been rumored to shelter bands of vicious monsters. It is said that only the turbid waters of the River has formed the boundary that prevented monsters from invading the undergarrisoned fort over the years... but now it may not be enough.

My character doesn’t need any of the equipment. As a Barbarian with tavern Brawler he doesn’t use armor and can throw random things as a ranged attack. Though eventually a good bow might be useful to have for long range situations. And with Dex16 he’ll be alright with it.

Btw, Helaman, please don't forget to hand out Inspiration when you think it appropriate. I find a lot of GMs tend to overlook it in 5e.

Yeah... it's just that you're in the open. Sure I'll give you cover from being hip deep in water but you're in the open... you know, spears, arrows, slings etc.

I love that in 5e a dwarf can be a sorcerer, and still stand in the middle of combat tanking for the party like a boss with hammer in hand.

5e has more customisation options than it is often given credit for.

Good options are important. There's little point in having options that are just plain terrible. I like how you made beserker viable for example.

Has anyone been following the Treantmonk update to 5th ed? I can't say I agree with everything buuuut overall it's good. Especially his different take on both warlock and sorcerer compared to wizard.

He has several videos up on YouTube and a webpage somewhere.

Wrapping up my shift soon so updates are a few hours away.


I have not, but I tend not to pay attention to a ton of 3rd party stuff for any game in general.

Ya I have not taken a look either, for the same reason as Vrog. :)

To be honest I USED to avoid 3PP stuff like the plague... now? (If it's free) I download a CRAP tonne of it. Most of it isn't up to snuff, but occasionally you get some rare nuggets of gold that just make you go "yeah, this actually works better, makes sense and doesn't ruin the game".

Treantmonks stuff may not be everyone's pot of tea but it's definitely not bad. He did a very good remake of the monk that I'm a fan of.

I loved his wizard guides for 3.5 and PF 1e.

Have only glanced at his revised feats but they looked promising.

3pp is a very mixed bag but some of it is excellent. Kobold Press stuff I find tends to be normally at least on par with official WotC offerings.

There's a 5e grittier (read clunkier but the flavour is great) Rules set called Darker Dungeons. It's free and worth the read, if only to look at it as another angle on 5e but with a more 1st ed feel.
