Almost certainly aware of each other. Can you give me a rough idea of your brother's position and what his view on sylphs would be?
I find the idea of the godless fascinating. In a world where the gods are tangibly real (if fallen silent) there is no 'belief' as such. This is true of almost all fantasy settings. No-one 'believes' in different gods, they just venerate different ones.
Badhbh is 'Godless' through circumstance, not choice.
Valen is similar to Freya in that he came from a religious family, though he did not get along as well with them as his sister did. He decided early that he wouldn't follow either of his parents or sister's path (Army Soldier, Inquisitor or Paladin). Unlike his younger sister, his parents weren't outwardly hostile to the idea, but disapproving nonetheless. He eventually left on his own to Light where he'd pursue his own artistic passions. The heat of the forge and delicate works of precious metals called to him and he apprenticed under a silversmith.
Valen was shy around strangers initially, but his creative passions were met with like-minded individuals, many of whom are slyphs. Unfortunately, his parents believed he fell in with a bad crowd, and their attitude also affected Freya to a lesser extent. With Freya's studies, contact between the two of them has been limited, though Valen is much more trusting in his sisters.
So, he gets along fairly well with slyphs, though is a touch reclusive. More interested in his own passions than the people around him. Though say the right things, and he'll talk for days. I think as a silversmith, he might work with or for the Jewels. He'd share a similar disillusionment with their parent's ways but would likely stay behind.
Ok, Ohkwarikó and Badhbh, I'd like you to enter "en media res" or whatever the phrase is - in the middle of the action. So roll init. Kapelo told you to stay back, but now that he is attacking Ky La that would be your cue to join the fray. The inquisitor is the only target for now.
Ohkwarikó, would "Oak" be alright as a nickname from Kapelo?
Well, that was a heck of a week - two presentations to the CTO, a workshop with folks in india, and my first wedding anniversary - life certainly has been busy. I'll read up on what I missed the past few days tomorrow.
Ky La might be working with someone who can cast the spell. Simulacrums don't have to be copies of the caster as far as I know. Sounds like a mystery is afoot!
He could be gaining powers too, though that makes it pretty likely our level 2 team isn't up to the task yet.
I was thinking that if each piece represented a part of Ky La's body, you grabbed his eyeball. If he were to turn back into a fleshy person, you'd be holding his eye. Ew!
Yep, so a shattered mirror where somehow each shard keeps a "piece" of the original image. So this is Ky La's eye, complete with glasses and blue undine skin.
By the way, don't ever feel compelled to listen to Kapelo - he is often wrong, he is just another elen (so don't take it as "the DM is telling you this should happen")
GM, I'd like to post this later when we rest, assuming that it is still narratively appropriate
GM:
As dim turns to night Badhbh is stood at an open window. With a deep breath he draws upon that familiar power, he feels the pull of the air, the desire to move upwards. A moment later and the room is empty, a call echoes through the night.
”Caa…”
-------------------------------------------------
Badhbh lands at the Kalyeer family shrine in el form, stepping over to where the earlier fire consumed the shards of Ky La. As he crouches and blows the ashes aside, his hands feel through the cinders and he finds several nuggets of molten glass which he furtively pockets.
Minutes later he is back in his room, treasure carefully packed, preparing to rest for the night.
I wanted to check with you that it was OK to make the assumptions I have made and post all this together, I don't want to unnecessarily delay the gameplay thread with a lot of back and forth but I can cut it early if something might occur...
I have been thinking about this campaign and myself for the past day or so as I try to read and catch up. Perhaps I can't keep it up consistently. It's hard to admit that, but its probably true.
About every 2 months or so I go through a period of time where work heats up to 12-16 hours a day for about two weeks and then goes back to having little to do for the rest of the time. During those peak periods, I wake in a blur and fall asleep exhausted at the end, with little in between.
The pandemic hasn't helped that in any way, the periodic swings have grown in size. Our re-org at the very beginning of this ended up with me being far more utilized and central to our company. And to top it off, even though I want to get off of this roller coaster, the pandemic has pretty much eliminated job changing at this point.
That's not fair to everyone that this happens and you have to make compromises for me. I hate to admit it, but no matter how I much I love the gm, players, setting, and character, the best thing for all of you is for me to bow out.
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity and the good times, I hope everything works out well for you all.
I'm sorry to hear that, Novalie. We appreciate you! Hopefully, the pandemic dies down and with it, your job eases. Then maybe you can message the GM and see out rejoining!?
Sorry to see you go Novalie. Hopefully we'll get to play together again. And if your job does turn around, I'd be happy to see you return. Good luck with work and your future games!
Thank you all - I miss you already. I owed it to such a good group to make certain the right thing happened for you too.
As far as coming back, things will need to calm down for quite a while before I would message you - I don't want to rejoin and then get hit by it again. That's not fair.
Nempura had detect magic on when Ky La had approached the shrine and it wasn't mentioned, so I didn't think they were magical. In any case, I don't know that she would have taken them due to it not being something she would ever wear, but she may have mentioned it to Kapelo and the others if it turned out she did see them as magical and had survived the flames. Perhaps when Badbhb returns to the fire he will see them there?
