I don't see any special connection to the others.

I think smoking is probably common amongst ifrit and oread societies, especially since I doubt ifrit care much about smoke inhalation. Oread probably are the ones growing the product too.

I have offered my discord and pm to those who want to plan out a connection of some kind to my character

more great questions from Nempura regarding etiquette and culture, and thought I would share the answers:
Greetings/Bowing/Social Rank
I like the Vietnamese crossing arms with a slight bow for "common" interactions, just basic politeness. There are slight variations: social lessers will bow first and slightly deeper (elders are superiors, and the nobles/Swem are considered superiors above that, and Chord and Mother of village above that, and finally Mother and Chord of Icefall are the highest rank in Undine society). With extreme differences in rank (commoner meeting the Chord of Icefall), then bowing to the ground, knees folded, is called for.
Basic Greeting:
Mang Sông (River carry you)
reply: Còn bạn (and you)
Greeting between Swem
Trái tim Sông (River's heart)
reply: Máu Sông (River's blood)
Is there corruption and bribery?
A very interesting question, and overall it is the Traders that are known for corruption and taking bribes (so their presence is greater in mid-sized and larger cities).
The Swem see themselves as much more noble than the venal Traders, but in reality they are simply prone to other vices like nepotism and arrogance :)
This info will also be put in the appropriate documents in Campaign Info.

alrighty, feast your eyes on:
(The map that actually looks good was graciously provided by Nempura, though I could not for the life of me figure out how to use it AND still make labels legible. Graphic design is pretty much at the bottom of my DMing skills, so we have one nice map and one basic map)

Last order of business (at least on my end) is to comb through the ol' character sheets, which I'm planning on doing tonight. I know sebecloki's isn't finished, but 4 sheets for now is still plenty of info to process :)
Assuming there aren't any major changes that need to be made to anyone's characters, I think we're looking at less than a week before we start Gameplay. I'll keep you all posted!

And speaking of the crisis (in recruitment), I'm at home with my two kiddos right now (schools are closed!) so instead of getting a few hours every morning to do PbP stuff, I'm teaching reading, writing, and 'rithmetic while making sure we don't go stir-crazy...so I'm attempting to find time here and there to go through character sheets and takes notes on backgrounds etc for creating plots, but it will take a little longer than I thought.
My estimate is to have notes/feedback on characters by Friday.

Haha, they are 7 and 5. I actually played D&D with them last night - my daughter was a unicorn and my son played a fighting fox. They managed to find the goblins who had stolen their raccoon friend's magical diamond, defeat the hordes of goblins in the caves, and disrupt the ritual before the goblin wizard had a chance to fully summon a monster of purple flames from the depths of an abyss.
Bit too young to walk them through the mathematical wonderscape that is Pathfinder however :)

I always loved the "three Rs" with " writing, 'rithmetic" being two of them - they taught reading but not spelling :D

Iryani, what kind of metamagic feats were you planning on using in conjunction with Snowball?
Intensify, of course. A Magus staple.
Novalie and Iryani, could you make your taglines look like Freya and Nempura? I find it very useful.
Will do

Sounds good on both accounts.
Does Iryani worship any of the gods or their aspects?

What is Novalie's last name? Sorry if I'm just not seeing it!
I haven't given her one yet, I've added it now, Novalie (new happiness or new lion) Nystrom (new stream).
I updated the class, and I'll do the tagline this evening when I'm home and can do it on my text editor.Iryani Kalyeer |

added a relevant paragraph to her backstory. I also adapted traits and skills to reflect this new part of her backstory.

Alright, I am finished going through the character sheets, and everything looks good! Thanks again for everyone's hard work, especially making your sheets organized and easy to read.
A couple of quick notes:
1) Iryani, die to your hunter background you can have survival as a "bonus" skill (basically I'm giving you +1 skill points/level that can only go into survival)
2) Novalie, you can have Sense Motive as a bonus skill -- I guarantee anyone who trains as a priest learns something about seeing through lies :)
3) Freya, since you grew up in an undine village, you can add Undine to your list of languages known, and you can have Swim as a "bonus" skill.
4) Nempura, as we talked about through PM, your starting bonus is the noble outfit that you will be picking up in the village.

Thank you!

Thanks.
So, there are only four of thus then. Somehow my memory tricked my in believing, we were five.

In the southlands, especially in an undine village, it makes sense to me that everyone is speaking undine, but I'm not going to write that phrase every time :)
Instead, for now I'm planning on only calling out when someone speaks in Common or another language, and having Undine be the assumed language.
(yes I like overthinking my word use a great deal)

lol, oh well, I could swear I saw it show up - but I am here, sorry to worry you.

I know some posters are unable to post on the weekends, or prefer to take weekends "off" from the boards - is that the case for anyone here? It's better for me to know now so I don't inadvertently shut anyone out.
that is the case for me sometimes. Depends on weekend activities.
Novalie |
Sorry to not post over the weekend, I was derailed by my partner's mother being hospitalized for pneumonia. I will catch up tonight.
Novalie |
She's stable right now. I'll keep you up to date better if something changes.
