The combined efforts of Volsung, Darrioos, and Tesson land heavy attacks against the chuul, and soon the abomination of life and water falls under the inflicted wounds.

The Pathfinders find their path open again. Just beyond the chuul is an urn filled with some magical liquid. It radiates moderate conjuration auras.

Spellcraft DC21:

This substance provides a +20 competence bonus on all Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape from a grapple. The salve also grants a +10 competence bonus to the wearer’s Combat Maneuver Defense for the purpose of avoiding grapple attempts. In addition, such obstructions as webs (magical or otherwise) do not affect an anointed individual. Magic ropes and the like do not avail against this salve. If it is smeared on a floor or on steps, the area should be treated as a long-lasting grease spell. The salve requires 8 hours to wear off normally, or it can be wiped off with an alcohol solution (even wine).

Salve of slipperiness is needed to coat the inside of a container meant to hold sovereign glue.

They find themselves able to disbelieve the illusion that resides over this chamber. The organic walls of this chamber appear diseased, peeling away from the bedrock walls in large flakes. The desiccated carcass of some huge, aberrant sea creature lies atop a large bier-like growth rising in the center of the room. Dried husks composed of what looks like discarded, wrinkled skin lie scattered about the floor, which is coated in a thin veneer of slime.

As soon as he says that, you hear the sounds of incoming forces of Skum approaching. The leader of them, a Skum in robes that indicates him as a spellcaster, bellows out in rage, "Mohl'omog! What treachery is this?! Obey me, or suffer the consequences!"

They have proven your better, Gerlach. If you desire my powers, you will have to best those who can endanger my life in a matter of moments.

Volsung darts forward, fixing his stare upon the red skum. Arriving at the tip of the flying wedge of badness, he casts color spray.

I think that all of the skum are in the 15-foot cone area of effect. I'm not casting defensively as I'm hoping they don't have combat reflexes. If they do, I'll trigger mesmeric mirror.

Color spray is DC 16 Will with a -2 penalty to the red skum for hypnotic stare, and categories for color spray are all bumped up one HD due to mesmerist's mental potency.

Reference: Color Spray:

2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)

3 or 4 HD: The creature is blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, then stunned for 1 round.

5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.

Sightless creatures are not affected by color spray.

Skum Unconscious, Blinded, and Stunned: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Skum Blinded then Stunned: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Gerlach gets stunned for one round, to which Tesson finds no resistance walking over the bodies of the other skum and bashing Gerlach's face with the mug.
