The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Welcome!

I always do my best to run a friendly game. I want people to have fun and everyone to be able to laugh when something crazy happens.

This is part of a special so it will be critical that we run a fast game.

I really want everyone to be able to post at least once a day, preferably more. If you are going to be away from the game for a short period (such as attending a convention, on a short vacation, or needing to do some business travel), I would ask that you please post that here so everyone involved knows.

Chronicle information

In order to be able to generate a PFS chronicle, I ask that each character please provide me the following information:

Player name:
Character name:
Preferred station in Starship Combat:
OPF and character #:
Faction:
Day Job roll (or a note that you have no day job):

At the appropriate time, I will ask that you also post your slotted boons. That will happen after the game starts.

Character Profiles

Please have a profile header displaying a brief overview of your character's current status. At the least it should include current/maximum Stamina, Hit Points, Resolve Points, EAC and KAC, and saving throws.

In the character profile, please include a complete stat block. You may put it under a spoiler if you wish, but if you do so please put it under a single spoiler. I do not want it split across multiple spoilers.

If you have your character sheet on a different site, please have a link to it in your character’s headers. This allows me to pull it up from any post by the character, rather than having to go to the profile and from there to the external sheet.

If you want examples, the PbP GM Kit has the pregenerated characters done in BB Code. Use those as a general guideline.

Botting

Botting is when someone else makes a roll or otherwise does something on behalf of your character. Bot is short for robot.

Please include instructions in your profile and a general tactics in case someone else needs to bot your character. I highly recommend this include the dice expressions used for common actions. It is alright if you put this in a separate spoiler from the stat block, but once again please don't split it over multiple spoilers.

If there are resources you don’t mind being used up by botting, please say so. If there are resources you never want someone using, it is alright to say that as well.

If it makes you more comfortable, you could specify who you want to run your character when you can’t post.

In my experience, creating a bot structure can help with your own posts as well. Assuming you put complete dice expressions in the botting directions, it makes it easy to cut and paste.

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.

When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.

Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven mechanic Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his bowcaster before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with High Tech Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

Rules Questions

If there are rules questions, please post them in the discussion thread rather than interrupting the gameplay thread with rules debates.

In closing

Come join me for a fun and fast game!

Alright, that is all of the players who signed up.

We only have four players, the other 5-6 table on Paizo only has five.

Acquisitives

Male Shirren Bombard Blitz Soldier 12: Init:9, Spd:35, KAC:30, EAC:27, 5 Cold Resistance, SP:144/144, HP:90/90, RP:12/12, Fort:15, Ref:14, Will:12, Perc:11 Blindsense

Added in my Mysticism, forgot magic officer is now a thing, now that the character operations manual is out. Not to mention Chief mate with acrobatics.

Edit: if we have plans to keep our distance and/or get behind them, then magic officer for me, as I can extend the range of the weapons or give the pilot +2 to 70% of the time. Depends upon what numbers others have as it helps to post the modifiers.

Wayfinders

Human Female Operative (ace pilot)-10 (Spaceship speed +1 from sky jockey); init +10; SP 84/110; HP 84/84; Res 12/12; Reroll 0/1; Cloak 10/10; mk 1 healing serum 1 KAC29 ; EAC 28; (2d6 electrostatic field); DR 5/-; fire&cold/5; elect/10; Fort 8; Ref 13; Will 9; Perc +16; SM +16; Stealth +23 :T10=34 for trick shot)

Helping pilot initiative is generally one of the most powerful things we can do in space combat. Especially if the gunners are good.
But lack of science/engineering may hurt us. Recharging & rebalancing shields is also pretty important.

Second Seekers (Jadnura)

Desha "DD" Doash | Female Human Bounty Hunter Mystic (Steward Officer) 8 SP 56/56 HP 52/52 RP 8/8 | KAC 24 EAC 24 | Saves F+4 R+6 W+10 | Initiative +4; Perception +18 (+20 visual); Darkvision 60ft | Spells: 1st 5/5 2nd 5/5 3rd 3/3 | OS: TBD | Status: N/A |

I could also do Magic Officer with Mysticism +12. That would let Jackojare be on a second gunner spot if we need it. Unfortunately, I really don't have anything I can do for Engineering/Science Officer.

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Most Magic Officer tasks have DC = 10 + 1-1/2 × your starship's tier, so 19.

A +12 has you making that on a 7 or better, so 70% of the time.

You are Level 5, so you can’t do Mystic Haze.

Your options would be:

Eldritch Shot: Treat a weapon’s range as 5 hexes longer for one shot
Precognition: Give your Pilot a bonus on their check for who moves first
Scrying Use Mysticism instead of Computers to do the equivalent of the Science Officer Scan action. This last one has a different DC.

Also remember people can change stations at the start of each turn of Starship combat.

Just posted in Castamir’s to see if we couldn’t get two more people.

How I did it:

Selected the image to the right of your text, then copied it into my clipboard.
Switched to Google Slides, pasted it into an open area on the first slide.
Resized it, cropped it to a circle. You can select the shape you want, I find circle and square with rounded corners (so you can still see where the lines cross on a map) work well for me.
Select the color of the border and the width.
Moved it to where I wanted it.

You can change around the cropping border and colors, no problem. Those settings come with any time you copy the image within Google Slides.

Hope this helps for anyone else trying to do this.

Spoiler question for the DM,

question:
In 1-39, I beat the big boss, and I was told he will return in the special? Is this true, or does that only happen in certain tiers?

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Jackojare:
Scenario #1-39: The Herald's War is a tier 7-10 scenario.

How did your 5th level character get a chronicle for that?

The problem with all those people you just named in gameplay, I think I meet very few.
Started him at level 2 with a certain boon. Here are all the chronicles, but not in order. Dead suns 1 and Against the aeon thrones 2, dms credit. Them softcovers have very few NPCS that the modules have. Played skittershot, so an npc gave this guy credit. 1-12, 1-13, 1-23, 1-33.

I see though 1-23 has one of the boons you mentioned, so a plus.

The android mystic remains focused on the Star Empire, but you can call upon her (and her Akashic connection) as a non-combatant ally for other missions. Once per adventure while you have this boon slotted, you can spend a standard action to call on Cedona to cast one of the following spells: augury, identify, lesser remove condition, or mystic cure (2nd level). Each of these spells is treated as being cast by a 5th-level caster. You must spend 1 Resolve Point if you request Cedona casts augury.

Since using the rewards from the preparation tasks requires group consensus, I would like the group to agree on how many must weigh in for me to consider it group consensus. Requiring everyone to agree works when everyone is connected at the same time. It doesn’t work very well and can really slow down a PbP?

Basically, how many players have to post in order for me to consider it consensus?

The fastest would be if any one player asks in gameplay, do it.
The slowest (and I do not recommend it) would be requiring all of you to agree.
Something more moderate is two weigh in and agree.

Figure out how you want to do it now, so there are no arguments later.

Thanks!

There are 5 of us, I trust 2 or 3 of us to make the right decision, or at least have an agreement why it "shouldn't" be used.

So I'm with either 2 or 3.

Yeah in my experience we often end up not using these things rather than running out, so let's make it easy to use.

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Looks like people are agreed to first 2-3 as being consensus.

I will interpret this to mean go if the first two posts agree, otherwise wait for a third so hopefully we have two votes that match. Tell me if that is not acceptable and give what you consider acceptable.

The official tag from the scenario is:

Repeatable (Tier 1–4, Tier 5–8, Tier 9–12)

I interpret this as meaning you can play it once in each of those tiers, so that would allow you to play it three times.

You could not replay it with the same character. Each time would need to be at a different tier, so you couldn’t play it once with a 5th level character and then again with an 8th level character.

Does that make sense?

That mean i cannot Play it with my level 5. Flûte!

Wait i can ! She is a Jadnura faction!

The Festering Blot | Tarnbreaker’s Trail

Our group currently has an Aid Token. I have provided a link to the Aid Token description just below the map link for the campaign.

Boost it or use it!

Below is the effects with the adjustments for our tier figured in.

——

Allied Offensive: A nearby Starfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as a PC, increasing the damage dealt on one attack by 2d8. In addition, the target counts as flanked when targeted by any melee attacks until the beginning of the attacker's next turn.
To Boost: Succeed at an attack roll against an AC equal to an Average skill check DC.
Boosted Effect: +1d8 damage.

First Aid: A Starfinder agent restores 3d6 Hit Points or Stamina Points to each PC—each PC can choose which benefit to receive.
To Boost: Succeed at an Average Medicine check.
Boosted Effect: +1d6 HP or SP restored.

Remote Assistance: A Starfinder crew provides starship assistance from afar. Each PC receives a +2 bonus to all checks required by crew actions for 1 round.
To Boost: Expend 1 Resolve Point.
Boosted Effect: One member of the crew also gains an additional action, just as though the ship's captain had successfully used the orders action.

Timely Inspiration: A Starfinder agent provides the effects of an envoy's Don’t Quit improvisation. Each PC can choose one of the benefits available at 6th level; the effect lasts 1 round.
To Boost: Expend 1 Resolve Point.
Boosted Effect: Choose one PC; remove one nonpermanent condition instead of suppressing it.

Provide Knowledge (must be boosted): Gain the benefit of a successful Culture, Engineering, Life Science, Mysticism, Physical Science, or Profession check to identify a creature or recall knowledge; the difficulty (Easy, Average, or Hard) depends on the table granting the benefit. If the Starfinder fleet alone is providing the boost, the check result is Average.
To Boost: Succeed at a check with one of the skills listed above; the result of the check (Easy, Average, or Hard) should be noted on the Aid Token.

Provide Spellcasting (must be boosted): Gain the benefits of a beneficial spell cast by an ally as listed on the Aid Token.
To Boost: Cast one of the following spells and note your PC's name and caster level on the Aid Token: break enchantment, lesser remove condition, lesser restoration, mystic cure, remove affliction, or remove condition. Only these spells can be granted. Expending resources that produce the effects of these spells can also boost this Aid Token. If used via the Starfinder fleet, you must be able to produce one of these spell effects, even though doing so does not consume your resources.

Human Female Operative (ace pilot)-10 (Spaceship speed +1 from sky jockey); init +10; SP 84/110; HP 84/84; Res 12/12; Reroll 0/1; Cloak 10/10; mk 1 healing serum 1 KAC29 ; EAC 28; (2d6 electrostatic field); DR 5/-; fire&cold/5; elect/10; Fort 8; Ref 13; Will 9; Perc +16; SM +16; Stealth +23 :T10=34 for trick shot)

Agreed

I also note that someone else has honorbound allies. In that case can I swap out for Defender of the fleet, to upgrade our engines one step?

Between that and sky jockey I can up our speed or whichever ship by three points, which should help quite a bit.

I will allow it. Please repeat your boons with the change here, so that when I need to go collecting up the list of boons it is clear what has happened.

I'm thinking we should use the remote assistance. Give our gunners a second shot, or let me evade, generally though lets try and take them out, I think gunners an extra action sounds solid to me.
