"If it's only one orc, we can probably handle it. I'm more worried about being surrounded by goblins," Landolf whispered.
"Let's continue exploring. Until we know how many greenskins are about the place, calling the militia might just weaken the town's garrison to no advantage." He gestures toward the door at the left.

Valghaz Ironhammer |

”Aye lad. Don’t go far. All of us would give us away, but ye don’t want to be caught alone.” Valghaz said as Landolf melted into the shadows.

You open the door to a closet. It contains cleaning equipment and a few Human and Halfling cloaks. It smells like a toilet, and has evidently been used as one by the Goblins.
Tied up and gagged in a corner are two teenage humans (a male and a female). Based on their clothing, it appears that they have been taken from their farm by the Goblins.

Krizta |

Krizta motions for the kids to be quiet, then unties them and escorts them to the entrance so they can get out safely (telling the party she will be back shortly).

Adelaida Lehner |

Adelaida keeps her weapon ready, studying her surrounding in the room, trying to find some strategical advantage, and to spot doors from where to escape, or from where foes could come in

Darkest Doomed |

Landolf accompanies Krizta to take the children outside. If they can make it that far, he attempts to question them in whispers. "The greenskins are nearby. Keep your voices low, but I need to ask you some questions. First, how many greenskins have you seen? They attacked your homes, right?"
A Leadership Test sounds useful to guide the desired behavior.

Things don’t quite according to plan as poor Gurda and Hanse have been driven crazy after watching their family and friends eaten in front of them. As soon as they are untied they pull away from you all and screaming in rage rush further into the house. Entering the room with the circular staircase they turn left and disappear out of sight. You then hear screams of hate and sounds of combat coming from somewhere in the house to your left.

Darkest Doomed |

"We may not have another chance like this. Let's go!" Landolf urges the others quietly, drawing his rapier and gesturing toward the sound of fighting.
It didn't seem honorable to use the sacrifice of the children to their advantage, but doing nothing would throw away any hope of saving them.

Krizta |

Krizta runs towards the sounds of combat, her flail ready.

Aubster |

Following the sound of combat leads you to the central chamber that contains a spiral staircase in the middle connecting to the second floor. There are five man sized mirrors spaced evenly around the wall of the chamber. One of the those mirrors is revealed to actually be a door as the mirror has been pushed away from the wall opening a passage into another room. The sounds of fighting seem to be coming from the room behind the mirror. As you hurry into the room you see that these rooms once contained fine, upholstered furniture. Subsequently, the Goblins destroyed every piece and turned the stuffing into crude, filthy piles of bedding in the corners of the rooms.
Gurda and Hans have managed to knock one of the goblins from his feet and are tearing at him in a frenzy as the three roll around on the floor. Three more goblins stand in a rough circle around pile-up on the floor, jabbing into it with their swords. They don’t seem to care who they stab and are just as likely to hit their fellow goblin as they are to hit the teenagers. They do seem to be pulling their blows though, inflicting painful gashes, but not any fatal stabs.
The reason that the goblins hold back is readily apparent. A large Orc stands against the far wall laughing in delight as he watches the activity. He towers over the goblins standing almost 7 feet tall and weighing at least 300 pounds. He’s heavily armored in crudely made metal armor and an ornate two-handed axe lays next to him. Four goblins cower at his side also laughing every time the Orc laughs.
As the four of you rush into the room, the Orc picks up one of the goblins and throws him at you. Luckily for you the thrown goblin splats against the wall a few feet away from you and falls to the floor.
For convenience Goblin 1 is the goblin thrown by the Orc and it lies in a heap on the floor. Goblin 2 is the Goblin wrestling with Gurda and Hans. Goblins 3, 4, and 5 are the goblins jabbing the wrestling pile. Goblins 6, 7 and 8 are the remaining goblins standing around the Orc. Goblin 1 is right next to you so no Charge Bonus is available against it. All the other goblins can be charged. You can’t reach the Orc without first taking out some of the goblins around him. I will put the combat rolls in the next post.

The Orc would have been better served by his goblin minions if he stopped throwing them against the wall. Maybe then he would have been protected by them. Instead the goblins scatter out of the way of the charging dwarf. Valghaz’s swing is true and penetrates the Orc’s metal armor and it’s tough hide, However, instead of showing pain or rage the Orc laughs with joy as Valghaz wounds it. The Orc shouts a command to the goblins who scurry to move away from the dwarf/orc battle. [ooc]Summary at the end of Round 1. Please read through this and correct as necessary.
Goblin 1 was killed by Adelaida.
Goblin 2 was killed by Krizta.
Goblin 3 attacked Krizta but failed (Krizta gains Advantage +1). Krizta is Engaged with the Goblin 3. Goblin 3 was attacked successfully by Landolf who inflicted 8Wounds (Landolf gains Advantage +1). Landolf and Goblin 3 are Engaged. Landolf gained a +20 to hit because he’s attacking a Goblin already engaged by Krizta.
Goblin 4 attacked Landolf and failed. Landolf gains another Advantage. Goblin 4 and Landolf are Engaged.
Goblin 5 attacked Adelaida and caused 2 Wounds. Adelaida and Goblin 5 are Engaged. Goblin 5 has Advantage +1
Goblins 6 and 7 successfully attacked Valghaz with bows and inflicted a total of 9 Wounds. The Goblins do not get an Advantage for a successful ranged attack.
Goblin 8 failed its ranged attack and then was thrown against the wall. It is stunned.
Orc failed its ranged attack and then was attacked by Valghaz. Valghaz inflicted 10 Wounds on the Orc. Valghaz gained Advantage +1. The Orc and Valghaz are Engaged.
So, there’s a confusing web of Engaged fights. Is the following correct?
Adelaida is Engaged with Goblin 5.
Krizta is Engaged with Goblin 3.
Landolf is Engaged with Goblins 3 and 4.
Landolf and Krizta are +20 to hit Goblin 3 because they’re both fighting the same opponent.
Goblin 3 and Goblin 4 are +20 to hit Landolf because they are fighting the same opponent.
Valghaz and the Orc are Engaged.

Landolf does get the fast weapon bonus which is a -10 penalty to a foe trying to defend in melee unless they have fast weapons too. So, Landolf has Advantage +4 because his Charge bonus gets added to his previous Advantage, a +20 to hit because the Orc is now outnumbered 2:1.
Orc Defense (60): 1d100 ⇒ 91 That’s a SL of -3 including the -10 to defense of a fast weapon and the Orc’s +1 Advantage. Landolf rolled a 36 which with all of his bonuses works out to be a SL +9 for a SL difference of 12. Damage is 12 (SL difference) + 4 (WB) + 3 (SB) - 8 (Orc TB and armor) for another 11 Wounds inflicted which is now 31 total Wounds to the Orc.
Rushing to his friend’s aid, Landolf leaps over Goblin corpses in his charge towards the monstrous Orc. As Landolf strikes out with his rapier something odd happens…the beautiful axe the Orc is using appears to twist at the last moment out of position to block Landolf’s blow. The Orc is utterly dumbfounded as Landolf buries his rapier to the hilt in the Orc’s body. For a heartbeat of time the Orc stands stock still and then drops the axe (which peals like a bell when it hits the floor) and then the Orc itself crumbles to the ground. It takes all of Landolf’s strength to wrench his rapier free of the corpse but he manages.

Valghaz Ironhammer |

Valghaz had been fighting the orc, but it was no duel. This was evidenced by the three arrows that stuck out of the dwarf. Fired at such close range, each one had hit home with brutal force, leaving him barely standing on his feet. He had been matching the orc blow for blow when an arrow from behind had caused him to stumble forward, right into the orc's choppa. The dwarf was knocked back several steps and stayed on his feet only out of an intense stubborness. But their dishonor was repaid as Landolf leapt to Valghaz's rescue. Unable to see the nobleman behind the orc, all the dwarf saw was a thin blade sticking through the orc's chest. The orc slide to the ground, dying with a surprised look on it's face.
All that remained to be seen was whether goblin spite would win over their cowardice. For the dwarf would likely not survive another volley of arrows.

Not sure what difficulty modifiers there are for healing, but just rolling it for storyline goodness... if it doesn't work, it doesn't, but she is going to try.
Krizta has healing experience cleaning and binding her own wounds, and those of other flagellants, so when she sees that Valghaz is in a bad way, she takes some of her old (clean) clothing, rips it into strips, and goes over to see if she can help Valghaz.
Heal Skill (38): 1d100 ⇒ 53
Hmm... not a good sign, Valghaz, sorry.

It’s a bad news/good news situation. Krizta failed her Healing test so no Wounds are healed but she only failed by SL 2 which is less than her Intelligence Bonus of +3 so she doesn’t cause more damage
Krizta works valiantly to bind up Valghaz’s injuries but he doesn’t appear to be better once she’s done.

Adelaida Lehner |

Free attack 62: 1d100 ⇒ 42 Sl 2, Dmg 4 (damaging)+3 STR+6 weapon=13
Showing no mercy, Adelaida slams her warhammer in the fleeing goblin, sending it flying -shortly-across the room

Valghaz Ironhammer |

”Thanks.” Valghaz muttered to Kritza for her medical aid, Adelaida for he willingness to take a point blank arrow for him, and Landolf for slaying the orc. Saying more than that hurt. He went about safely removing the trio of arrows that had perforated him…
Heal 37: 1d100 ⇒ 10

Darkest Doomed |

"Be on guard," Landolf says after he checks on Valghaz to ensure that the dwarf is still with them. "There might be more of those things about and this house belongs to Herzen in any event."
The last room was fairly odd, with the evenly spaced mirrors. We should probably check that out more closely, if carefully. Is there anything of note besides defaced furniture in this one?
Initiative (Perception) 45: 1d100 ⇒ 84

The goblin is flung across the room by the blow of the Warhammer and it lands in a broken heap. It doesn’t stir again.

Landolf is able to determine that the mirrors are actually 2-way mirrors so that someone from inside the room can watch the central chamber with it spiral staircase but someone in the central chamber will only see a reflection.
The room once contained fine, upholstered furniture. Subsequently, the Goblins destroyed every piece and turned the stuffing into crude, filthy piles of bedding in the corners of the room. There’s a large pile of torches in plain sight (21 torches).
The only other item of note is the beautiful, jeweled two-handed axe. It lies next to the Orc. What must be an optical illusion makes the axe glow with a soft blue light.
