Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen strides forward.
” Your true colors show forth by your treachery!“
She calls forth a holy smite upon the salamander and the far mephit
”By the Dawn! Holy fire smite you all! “
Non evil outsider : 4d8 ⇒ (3, 5, 7, 1) = 16
Evil outsider : 9d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 5, 2, 3, 5, 2, 5) = 30
The spell deals 1d8 points of damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d8) to each evil creature in the area (or 1d6 points of damage per caster level, maximum 10d6, to an evil outsider) and causes it to become blinded for 1 round. A successful Will saving throw reduces damage to half and negates the blinded effect.

GM Crunch |
Merisiel runs up and dispatches a mephit. Its fellow burns her with a beam of fire. Doodle and Jinsa close the gap. Jethzerai activates his jetpack and tries to fly out of reach, despite being unable to see.
Doodle and Jinsa can both take AoOs as he is blind. Otherwise, he will fly straight up and cast Mage Armor unabated.
Mephit Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Scorching Ray vs. Merisiel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 2) = 9
Cast Defensively (if needed): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Round One/Two:
------
Varian
Lasaraleen
Jinsa (fly, shield)
Doodle (heroism)
Merisiel -9 (heroism)
Blue -8
Jethzerai -46 (blinded)
Khellek
Khellek the historian |
"Friends! Explorers! Pathfinders! Lend me your ears!" starts out Khellek.
"This jet pack wearing fiend before would rather roast a city of thousands than wait one day. I ask you, will we stand for it?"
Inspire courage, +2 to hit and damage
He then takes out Bessie.
Now, where did I put the bolts?
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue |
Doodle took a slash at the blind enemy, trying to finish him before his evil plan could come to fruition.
Attack with Adamantine spear with GMW, Power attack, heroism and IC 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 2 - 1 + 2 + 2 = 34
Damage with GMW, Arcane Strike, Power Attack and IC 1d6 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 13
Lasaraleen |
@GM if Jeth saved vs holy smite he is not blinded by that and takes half damage. If blinded by something else, disregard. :)
Yen Jinsa Taishin |
No claws out at the moment, so no AOO from me.
"No you don't." Jinsa quickly channels electricity into his palm and then charges strait up in the air and sends it into the salamander.
IC+charge
shocking grasp vs touch: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 16 +3 if he is carrying metal or wearing metal armor
electricity damage: 5d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 1, 2) + 5 = 21
Not sure how high Jeth is, but Jinsa charges, so he will end up right below him.
GM Crunch |
Ugh! Not sure how I missed that, must've failed my own save.
Jethzerai's respite is halted as Doodle jabs him, arresting his movement. Jinsa barely needs to reach up to zap his jetpack.
Not enough room to charge, but you barely hit anyway.
Round Two:
------
Varian
Lasaraleen
Jinsa (fly, shield)
Doodle (heroism)
Merisiel -9 (heroism)
Blue -8
Jethzerai -92 (10' up)
Khellek
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue |
Doodle again jabbed at the enemy, having been successful the last time.
Attack with Adamantine spear with GMW, Power attack, heroism and IC 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 2 - 1 + 2 + 2 = 35
Damage with GMW, Arcane Strike, Power Attack and IC 1d6 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 13
Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen looks up at the hovering salamander.
By the Dawn! Flying will not save you nor your corrupt plans!
Being out of reach, she casts spiritual weapon, invoking a scimitar of pure force to strike their foe.
spiritual: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 for force: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
GM Crunch |
Another stab from Doodle would have kneecapped Jethzerai, were he possessed of such parts. Still, he manages to block Lasaraleen's scimitar. "And your precious Dawnflower won't scrap them either," he manages with a sneer. He doesn't contest Khellek's account.
Round Two:
------
Varian
Lasaraleen
Jinsa (fly, shield)
Doodle (heroism)
Merisiel -9 (heroism)
Blue -8
Jethzerai -105 (10' up)
Khellek
GM Crunch |
Merisiel's dagger bounces off Jethzerai's hide. He floats slightly further away, then drops a fireball straight below him. The remaining mephit is now getting that it's outclassed, but tries to get Doodle to drop her spear all the same.
All but Varian and Khellek, make DC 17 Reflex saves versus 5d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 6, 3) + 2 = 25 fire damage. Doodle, DC 14 Will or your spear is affected by Heat Metal.
Round Two:
------
Varian
Lasaraleen
Jinsa (fly, shield)
Doodle (heroism)
Merisiel -9 (heroism)
Blue -8
Jethzerai -105 (10' up)
Khellek
Lasaraleen |
Lasarleen basks in the flames exploding around her.
reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Resist Fire/10
So I believe she takes 2 pts of fire damage
How are the rest of you?
Meanwhile the force blade continues to slash at the salamander
spiritual: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 for force: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
spiritual: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 for force: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
She will hold her action to see if she should channel or not...most likely will.
Khellek the historian |
Khellek keeps up the advice.
"Pour some cold water on them Pathfinders! We have this."
As he fumbles a bolt into place and tries to contribute to the assault on the remaining mephit.
attack, inspire,heroism: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 17
damage(magic,piercing),inspire: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
However the heat seems to be steaming up the scholars glasses...
Merisiel the Pregen |
reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Mersiel spins out of the way of the flames.
Missed me! Here, catch! the rogue says as she grabs a flask from her belt and launches it at the lizard.
acid flask: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d6 ⇒ 5
Khellek the historian |
Don't forget your heroism Merisiel. +2 to hit, saves and skills. And IC is another +2 to hit and damage
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue |
Reflex 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Will 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Doodle took the fireball full on in the face. ”Augh, that smarts,” she yelled. As the flying creature was out of her range, she turned her attention to the mephit in front of her and slashed at it with her spear.
Attack 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Damage 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Yen Jinsa Taishin |
Jinsa channels more electricity into his hand and attempts to deliver it to the salamander.
Concentration Check, Cast Defensively DC 17: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 4 = 17
Shocking Grasp: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 +3 if target carrying/wearing metal
Electricity Damage: 5d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 5, 5) + 5 = 21
Khellek the historian |
I think it doesn't apply to splash damage, but if you have to roll to hit and damage, I think it would apply to the direct hit.
GM Crunch |
Despite the steam, Khellek takes down the remaining mephit. The rest of your efforts, primarily the flying Jinsa frying Jethzerai's jetpack, serve to bring the salamander down. He sinks to his nonexistent knees and passes out bleeding midway through a torrent of Ignan curses.
Once again, silence settles on the chamber. It is barely punctuated by what little ever-slowing lava appeared from the portal. But with this lull comes the knowledge that you have bagged the head of this operation, and likely need to worry no further.
Combat over! Good work, Pathfinders! Will follow up tomorrow.
Khellek the historian |
"Well done pathfinders!" smiles Khellek, as he approaches the salamander, quickly trying to extract any equipment from it before it might melt.
Does it look alive still? If so happy to stabilise it with a CLW.
GM Crunch |
Jethzerai is still alive, and without his equipment poses little threat.
Varian is relieved to find that the salamander is not the biggest cheat imaginable, and has gleaned arcane power through years of study. His spellbook is rather basic, save a few spells you've never heard of. The elf also deduces that his arcane bond is to his jetpack. As you were going to remove it anyway, he won't likely cast or fly out of this situation.
Non-Core Spells: Greater Make Whole, Discharge, Recharge, Irradiate, Ear-Piercing Scream, Stumble Gap, Technomancy.
Items: Grade III Hemochem, Timeworn Jetpack, Timeworn Inertial Dampening Belt, Timeworn Veemod Goggles, Green Veemod.
Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen will offer to stabilize the dying Jethzerai with hopes he can be redeemed, if for information if nothing else.
Merisiel the Pregen |
Merisiel, not trusting the lizard, binds hs hands.
better safe than sorry... she says before retrieving her dagger. She looks around as the others fuss over the loot.
perc: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Lasaraleen |
Once the combatants are secured, Lasaraleen will call upon the healing powers of Sarenrae to heal the group (excluding the enemies)
channel: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 5, 4) = 18
I didn't see saves or damage from all in the fireball, but she has channels to burn, so catching up folks that were burnt.
GM Crunch |
You are free to haul Jethzerai however close to the Grand Lodge as you'd like. The trio of azers have stayed at their posts, but are lounging about instead of scrapping robots. They join you in exiting the Forge. "You took down the big snake, you deserve the bounty," Zuhayr says, drawing surprise from her sisters. "Even if you aren't likely to frequent the City of Brass. It's dead-or-alive, so don't worry. Flash it around when you're there and respect should follow."
Marw thanks you as profusely as he seems able, all the while nudging you to leave. It's a thankfully quiet return trip to the Lodge. Shevala Iorae waits for you in a library building, much better lit than the choker's impromptu cell. "You're back! And with some...friends, I can only hope? What happened down there, Pathfinders?"
Khellek the historian |
"Well.. " starts Khellek.
"It seems that the influx of robots was due to this.." here is points to the captive salamander. "thing wanting to get back home. Which was going to be via a volcanic eruption. So we had to put a stop to that in order to help you. In doing so we have recovered some of the original orders given by the machine mage himself, and a number of historic artefacts. Most interesting indeed."
Lasaraleen |
” As the others have said. It was like a big mess. But , by the Dawn, we resolved it amicably.“
Yen Jinsa Taishin |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Yes, of the most recent missions, this one went rather smoothly." He then smirks."Not bad for a bunch of academics and a scoundrel.
This went surprisingly easy with no real martial characters. Thankfully we had some smooth talkers to get passed some of the combats.
GM Crunch |
"You have all outshone yourselves today. I shudder to think what would have happened if you hadn’t been there to stop the Forge from self-destructing." Shevala claps you all on the shoulders before greedily looking over the hard drive and other technology. "These discoveries are fascinating. We suspected that Karamoss had attempted to destroy the tower when the siege turned against him, but I never realized he was insane enough to try to unleash a volcano on another plane against Absalom! Your actions today saved not just an incredible trove of scientific and historical data, but possibly all of Absalom as well."
Jethzerai, if woken up, looks on sullenly. The Venture-Captain signals that it is your call what happens to him.
The first encounter can be avoided with a bit of difficulty, or a roll like Lasaraleen's. The next two were inevitable, but having skilled characters really helped. Knowing more about Tig-0 made that fight easier using electricity. And the portals would have going during Jethzerai's battle if you hadn't disabled them all, spewing lava and elementals everywhere.
Varian Jeggare |
Varian smiles.
"We did well, and uncovered some fascinating relics."
He then nods in the direction of the Azers.
"We promised these three a way home - I believe we should be able to handle it ourselves in the morning."
Or at least, our friendly neighbourhood level 9 Cleric can ;-)
Lasaraleen |
yes! She was ready to planeshift.
Khellek the historian |
Khellek tries to pay attention, but a notebook keeps appearing in his hand as sketches and notes get added as he remembers things.
"Was there not a reward for Jethzerai's return?" he inquires?
"My stipend as a scholar hardly pays for pens and ink, let alone my board."
