In Torvald's confused state, the snake he has attacked grows stout legs and moves away to attack Salliss, only then a different snake, legless this time, tries to bite Pip. Torvald advances and stabs at the beast with his starknife, then shifts his weight to strike it with his shield's spikes!

"Eek!" The serpent is used to taller people, because it bites right over the top of Pip's head. She is still inspiring courage, so everyone gets plus one to their attack and damage.

Being up close and personal means that Pip's shot goes right down the creature's throat, and straight into their soft bits!

I used a term without making sure everyone was clear on it. A basic save means that you take no damage on a critical success, half damage on a regular success, full damage on a failure and double damage on a critical failure.

A confused person cannot flank, since they do not consider anyone an ally. Torvald, I'm afraid that means you can't really use your reaction either, since you don't think you have allies.

Gorholt hits with the retributive strike, but misses with his regular attack. Torvald has the right target this time, but struggles to connect. Pip gets off a perfect shot and runs for cover.

Torvald's struggles have made things worse. The snek tightens its grasp, pulling its intended victim off balance. Torvald thrashes out with his starknife in desperation!

If that is a critical success, he uses the 5' stride to flank the snek with Gorholt. If that is only a success or a failure, then he obviously doesn't move.

Pip fails the reflex save, but Gorholt helps her take less damage. The snake's sharp teeth pierce her arm! "Hey! I write with that!"

Do we need a fortitude save, GM? Or is that just for the algae splash?

Worried about Torvald, Pip continues to inspire courage and she takes a hand off her bow to cast soothe on Torvald!

Soothe Spell: You grace the target's mind, boosting its mental defenses and healing its wounds. The target regains 1d10+4 Hit Points when you Cast the Spell and gains a +2 status bonus to saves against mental effects for the duration.

Okay, we have a lot of things going on, so I will resolve in initiative order. And Pip, the save is only for the algae.

Pip gets bitten but focuses her attention on healing Torvald.

Torvald tries to escape, but can't! Instead, he slices into the creature with a starknife, killing it.

He is, unfortunately, still confused.

Saliss gets into position and waits for a flank.

Gorholt charges in with his spear, getting a solid hit! Taking the liberty of redirecting your attack to Number 1.

Viola darts in and, with Saliss's flank, nicks the serpent. Saliss then gets a perfect shot as the creature is distracted by Viola, taking it down!

Torvald technically has up to two more rounds of confusion, but the group can just dogpile him, so I don't think we need to play it out.

Good!” Sallis says as his rapier takes out the serpent. Looking about, he sees Torvald has killed the other serpent but is still confused.

If we don’t attack back, he should hopefully come to his senses soon!” Sallis goes on the defensive and attempts to prevent the stout warrior from harming anyone.

Once Tolvald has come to his senses, Sallis cleans and sheathes his weapon. “Glad everyone is alright!

Let’s make sure we have everything and get out of here before more of those monsters show up!

Gorholt confirms that the group found everything and then Captain Vriggdahl sets sail to return home.

Venture-Captain Torrsen is delighted by your return with Hlavard’s body and the gorget. “This will greatly please the Grenskuldrs. Thank you. I’ll make sure that you’re all on the list for a very special event coming up soon.” Torrsen says nothing more about what this special event might be, though he does open up a nearby cabinet and take down an armful of vials. He says, “Let’s just say these might come in handy,” and gives each of you a vial of lesser winter wolf elixir.

At the debriefing, Salliss has a perplexed look on his face when Torrsen gives the group the elixirs. Reading the label on the bottle, he says “So, I’m guessing the event isn’t going to be anyplace warm.

Smiling, he adds “At least with this we will hopefully be prepared.

After the group is done with the debriefing, Sallis says “It was good workIng with all of you! I hope to do it again!

Torvald reassures his companions that he is very well, and he spends the return voyage taking footwork advice from Gorholt. "So, you're shifting your weight to coincide with your strike? Oh, that makes sense."

After leaving the lodge, Torvald wishes his companions well, thanking them individually for keeping him out of trouble during the combat with the two sea serpents. When the group breaks up, he takes a deep lungful of the chill air, and peers up and down the street, looking for an inn.

Having spent the journey back teaching Torvald the intricacies of dodging, Gorholt is more than happy to have firm ground under his feet once more.

Once they're done with the briefing, Gorholt makes a point of saying farewell to everyone, and murmurs a quick prayer of protection for each of them.

And with that done, he too heads for the inn. This cold land must SURELY have a warm hearth and bed to offer, before heading back out on the road.
