Delaying for Mama D.
Round 4, Init 4
Kort kindly ignores Anselm's order(?) and stands his ground, hoping to interject himself between the foe and Mama D. "It might be that it cannot escape the wall? Is that possible, Mama?"
Nonetheless, in holding his ground, K'Aldrian draws the sword from his cane with a rasp of metal on wood as he steps into the spot Mama just vacated.
He holds the sword deftly, but lacks the strength to use it effectively. Nonetheless, he tries to defend himself.
"FOR TALDOR! FOR THE PRINCESS!" Kort cries as he attacks.

”Hrumph, I say, jolly well done there. There were two… did you get them both?” he asks, clearly ready to close the door again quickly.

Muri moves to the dead body, tapping his Crook against the wall, as if daring another walcofinde to emerge, to show itself. He rests the weapon against the wall, and checks the clawed man for a pulse, while trying to look into the room where the man must have tried to retreat.

Sir Gryphus Plastion, an elderly gentleman with large white mutton chops, introduces himself, and is joined by two other nobles, Lord Wilfen Botoles and Lady Gael Urbaen, his guests. ”The dead man is Lord Develin Manshum. He was a good man, though I did not know him well.” He goes on to explain, in broken fearful common, that the four of them were overrun in the Senate by black clad warriors and appeared here one at a time when they were attacked. He assumes it was the Senatorial badges they all wear (Sir Plastion is the Senator, the other’s merely nobles and his guests), but he’s really not certain.
”I see you are capable warriors. Get myself and my companions out of here safely, and I’ll see to it you’re well rewarded for the task.”

”I heard others across the hall,” he gestures vaguely to the east, ”but I’m not sure who they are.”
Major Kort tries to push his way into the small chamber to look around, but there is no room and he’s stuck standing at the door over the dead noble.
Elen approaches the SSE door and knocks, calling out. ”Yes, yes, we’re here!” you hear called out through the door. And then, quieter, ”You see my dear, we’re saved! You’ll be fine.” as the voice seems to be consoling someone. You open the door, revealing another small safe chamber with two people in it. First, a large rotund priest Sargavan (link) cleric of Abadar, all smiles at being saved, who introduces himself as a guest of Senator Trant, Jowuan Zubari… and Senator Trant’s own daughter, the lovely Dame Malphene Trant, currently sobbing on a chair in the corner. The Senator is not here however.
The priest gestures to Malphene, ”The good Senator met his match I’m afraid, so be kind to his daughter, the Dame Malphene Trant. I suppose by the vote just passed today, she’ll inherit the Senatorship poor dear.” he looks kindly on the wretched woman, sobbing at the loss of her father. You notice she’s without her sword as well, which is a shame as it was a fine blade. She looks up at Elen and fresh tears cascade down her face...
Anselm hears nothing else, and confirms the identity of the dead nobleman under Major Kort.

Major K'Aldrian Kort 1ATD, Ret. |

Kort seems encouraged by the growing number of survivors. It gives him hope that others will have survived as well.
"Should we keep all the survivors to one room? Might be more safety in numbers until we can find a way out," Kort suggests to Muri, while backing him (and Underfoot) up at the center door.
"There is no telling what horrors might be in this room, but there migtht be survivors inside. I'm not sure if the undead could leave their walls, and maybe someone is trapped in here."
He's ready to help Muri when the door is opened.

"Hmmm." Muri looks back down the hallway from his position at the door. "If we draw in the dirt, maybe we can see the paths more clearly. Sir Plastion doesn’t have the answers Muri seeks, sharing simply that ”All I know is that there are, were, magics within the badges that transported us here out of danger. I was told we’d be sent to a small room beneath the Senate Chambers. A place of safety.” he frowns as he steps over the dead lords body and into the hall. As he goes, he takes his senatorial badge off Lord Manshum who clearly no longer needs it.
"Sir Plastion, this has been quite the day. What do you think of all these events today?"
”Hrumph, it has not been a good day. Quite so, quite so. I can’t think of the last time the Senate has been threatened like this. I mean mercenaries! I tell you the world has changed.”
He moves to the room containing Malphene Trant, nodding at Father Zubari. "Milady, though we came to blows, may I offer you my condolences? Ours was an ordinary feud. Not this... outrage." The priest smiles, ”Do you think I would let the lady suffer in physical pain as well as emotional? She is well young man, as well as can be expected. I’m glad you know her, that she’s among friends. She’ll need the support.” He ushers Dame Trant out of the small room and into the hall as well. She moves as if in a daze, clearly struggling to face reality.
The party lines up before the next door and opens it to examine the central chamber. A long table, its surface covered in green felt, stands in the center of this rectangular chamber. Silver trays dot the table’s surface, each hosting a set of crystal glassware and a tall decanter for wine. Further there is a document box on the table full of scrolls.

Anselm too, studies the strange chalk circles, and though he might, he can’t quite make out their purpose. The seem to be just circles. Odd.
The party opens the other doors in the room (though not the secret door just yet), and find two more empty chambers, but the one next to Major Kort hides a diminutive fellow who immediately cowers as you open his door, hiding behind a table and chair (though he has a very fine rapier).
”Please don’t hurt me!” the red headed halfling (link) replies very nearly in tears. ”I’ll do whatever you want! I’ll polish your boots, I’ll carry your lantern, whatever you need, just don’t kill me!” he wails at the unfairness of it all, looking quite pitiful.
Muri gives the Badge some inspection, understanding how it might be different from his own, before handing it to the Senator. "I think the body will remain here, until we can be certain that moving him will not endanger those carrying him. If we are attacked again, it would not be good to be slowed down."
The Senator takes the badge and tucks it into his tunic. He looks at the dead man, considers asking his companions, and simply shrugs for now. He’s resigned to not getting everything he wants.
Then Muri opens the not-so-secret door from this side (though it’s very well hidden from the other side).
Pristine glass display cases stand along the walls and in the center of this immense rectangular display room. The room is quite large, with the outer walls covered in glass displays of armor, save near the two northern doors and along the middle southern wall. Two rusted and decayed suits of armor stand separate, one to the east and one in the west, protected in glass cases atop semi-circular daises. Tarnished and discolored weaponry fill the cases in the center of the room.
Circles of various sizes have been scratched into the glass and also drawn on the walls and floor with chalk and paint.
The weapons and armor stored here hail from a dozen different historical eras, and have been labeled with faded and crumbling tags tied to each with twine. Each of the glass cases is extremely fragile and breaks after taking even a single point of damage. One case holds a finely crafted darkwood light crossbow whose brass fittings still glint like new, unlike the rest of the displays. A simple brass plaque inside the case labels it “Dignity’s Barb”.
”Sir Gryphus, you seem to know a great deal about this place.”
Kamari remains calm and resists lifting the point of her rapier towards his throat.
”Would your knowledge perhaps extend to the way out?”
”Oh, I’ve never been down here.” he waives his hand vaguely toward the glass cases, ”But I’d guess this is the way out.” he seems more out of touch than restrictive in his answers. He doesn’t seem to sense the danger he’s in from Kamari.

She floats into the room. "Gosh, how much do you think all of this is worth?"

Kamari |

Kamari's hopes rise as she spies the glass display cases. She remembers some of the fine armor in the foyer of the Senate hall.
She looks about the room dreamily talking to herself. "Maybe there's some elven chain hanging in one of these."
Picking up a random blunt object, she moves from display to display.

Mama shakes off the fugue she’s been in and joins the present, though it lingers a bit around the edges.
“who told you, if you don’t mind my asking, Sirrah. I do wish I had been forewarned. I would have worn a different gown.”

”OH, Goodness, Dear, I don’t have any elven chain, but I can put a bit of something to you, if you don’t find any. “
Should Kamari accept, Mama D casts Mage Armor on her.

Anselm and Mama D spot a few points of magic, but Anselm finds no evil. The immaculate crossbow is, not surprisingly, magic. But so are a hand axe and heavy steel shield - each +1. Further there are a few potions that glow to varying degrees in the display of famed natural philosopher Dumos Fatomax’s portable alchemy lab. Only one seems to be still drinkable however, the peeling label marks it as a Potion of Bull’s Strength.
Glancing sideways, as I’m sure you do, reveals a potion on Imistos, and a couple scrolls on the old priest, though you cannot identify them without a thorough examination. Oh, and of course their senatorial badges.
"Oh, you'll work, will you? Good. You've just been drafted in the First Taldan Army of the Princess, you hear? And your first job will be to join Madame Trant back here and see that she is safe. Do you understand me, soldier?" K'Aldrian tries to whip some purpose into the half-man.
The halfling whimpers at the commands of the Major. Bowing and scraping he scampers away and looks to the four women for a clue as to who Madame Trant might be…
If nothing comes to mind, Elen asks "Who are you, and how did you end up here?"
She floats into the room. "Gosh, how much do you think all of this is worth?"
”I’m Imistos Gulbend ma’am, attendant to Senator Lymon. He was showing me his badge when the violence broke out.” he holds up a senatorial badge, before tucking it away again in his belt. ”Are you Madame Trant?” he asks quietly.
“Who told you, if you don’t mind my asking, Sirrah. I do wish I had been forewarned. I would have worn a different gown.”
”Why the man who made my badge of course! Weaselly little man. I think he just took other badges and put my coat of arms upon it to be honest, but they did the trick.” he smiles and waits for others to enter the next chamber, when…

Mama D offers some magical armor as Kamari looks for her own, but she has not yet cast it upon anyone.
Two pitted and rusted suits of plate on either end of the room comply, and break out of their thin glass cages with another smash! As glass cascades to the floor the suits begin to converge on Kamari, though their surprise round is pretty much spent getting out of their cases and stepping off their platforms.

Again he wishes he had his short bow, and hopes scouting and information will help with the battle. He moves to where he can see the foes.

Muri doesn't enter the room, as much as stumbles forward, as Underfoot pushes her way past the halfling tentatively looking about. "Easy, girl. What's gotten into you?" When Kamari begins smashing, Muri forgets to scold the sheepdog.
"Miss Kamari, do you think you should be, I mean, they were behind glass for a reason. Sure, it's probably been years, with all the dust, but this place was meant to represent something of the past to those of us in the present." When sets of armor come alive and begin to spill forth, Muri forgets to scold the swordswoman.
Targeting Red, Muri barks to Kamari. "Can you get to the other side?"
The halfling moves just south of the animated armor, and swings once to put it to sleep again. He keeps his crook out, fending off the metal man at a distance.

Kamari hears Mama D's offer a bit too late unfortunately. She moves into a flank with Muri and wonders about where to stab considering she usually puts the point between the gaps of the armor. She tries anyway, wondering if some invisible force resides within the armor that she might be able to pierce.

Kamari doesn’t quite have flank yet, and misses her target as she smoothly moves into position. Muri stumbles forward and takes a chunk out of the armored, uh, armor. Major Kort double moves into position and notes to the group that the armor has no damage reduction. Mama D ensorcels Elen as she moves into the fray. Anselm summons another eagle which manages to claw and beak its way to a little more damage. He also determines the creatures have no special attacks to speak of. Elen learns that phantom armors are created from blood-spattered armor infused with the souls of betrayed knights or fallen soldiers - they were made. She also pops the eastern most on the helmet. She is less sure of the origin of Imistos’ senatorial badge as she’s not heard of a Senator Lymon - but there are a lot of Senators and she does not know them all perhaps.
The suits of armor draw long swords and return blows, though their long swords are not what they once were - being pitted and broken blades.

The halfling doesn't even draw his weapon, almost as if he's forgotten it.
