GM Rinaldo |

OK, there were enough high rolls in each of the categories that I can just reveal everything and not have to track your movement square by square. :-)
========================
An immense slab of rock covered in algae and lichen protrudes through the suffocating canopy of leaves. The trees that grow near it sway intermittently as if pushed by a strong wind, but the movement is actually caused by the convulsions of a half dozen four-foot-long chrysalises of gooey, gray silk that hang from the tree boughs. Hanging from other branches are pieces of elven armor, broken weapons, and other trophies from battlefields. Several of the mementoes are still slick with partially congealed blood and buzzing with flies.
With your keen eyes, you can make out the areas where the bog becomes deeper. More importantly, you identify the living hazards: a number of giant leeches as well as hundreds of the more normal sized sort make their homes here. You also see several cnidarlilies, lily-pad-like carnivorous plants that trail stinging filaments in the water beneath them to capture prey.
Cocoons are marked as circles with an X in them.
Areas outlined in Yellow are the deep bog. They won't affect you unless you specifically dive in, but they are deep and you can't see into them beyond the surface.
Cnidarlilies are hazards, not creatures. Entering or starting your turn in a square with one will force a Fort save against a poison effect that sickens and staggers, and tiny or smaller creatures can become entangled in them and take piercing damage.

GM - Can you tell us the mechanics of opening a cocoon? Can we just slash them open?
Sorry, I knew I forgot something! :) You can either attempt to cut the cocoons open where they are, or you can attempt to cut the strands attaching a cocoon to its tree. The cocoons are ten feet off the ground, if they or their contents fall they will take 1d6 damage.

GM Rinaldo |

Also, it just occurred to me that I can speed up some things by having each of you post a Perception check and a reminder to me of what unusual senses/sensory magic you have whenever you post your turns. That way I can resolve some currently unseen events more smoothly.

![]() |

It is most likely that our elven brothers and sisters are imprisoned in those cocoons. We must release them, but be wary of isolating an occupant in hostile territory.
Quenly glides over to the group, drawing his bow, and gestures. Strands of shadow stream out and gently caress Quenly's allies.
Casting Blessing of Fervour.
Spell targets everyone except the dragon and Zaarah - sorry Zaarah, you're too high up for me to hit you and anyone else.
Don't forget to choose your Blessing of Fervour bonus at the start of your turn!
perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36 auto-fail hearing; darkvision, see in darkness, lowlight vision, scent, deathwatch

![]() |

Thanks :)
Shamak inhales lets out a wild growl, inspiring his companions to battle!
"COME OUT AND PLAY, BRATS! WE HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU!"
That said, the half-orc casts another spell on himself and an echo starts in his voice, as if a drum of sorts joined the first tune.
Shamak casts Virtuoso Performance and begins a bladethirst on himself, granting his falchion an extra +2 enhancement.
With Good Hope, Moment of Greatness and Inspire Courage, the party has a total of +4 to hit and to damage / +2 to saves (+4 vs fear or charm), ability checks, and skill checks. In addition, with Moment of greatness, you can dismiss the spell to add 2 to one attack, damage, save, ability or skill check.
EDIT: I originally cast Haste but I just saw that I was ninja'd by Quenly :) I choose the +2s from BoF.

![]() |

Note that most applications of Blessing of Fervour don't stack with Haste - depends which BoF benefit you choose. The extra move speed, extra attack, and attack bonus do not stack, although the BoF attack bonus is +2 rather than Haste's +1.

Blessing of Fervor: Extra Attack
Just a reminder, Flyn has a swarmbane clasp and his weapons do normal damage to swarms...
Flyn targets the two leech swarms, targeting the northernmost till it’s dispersed and then the southernmost next...

...and then moves back 5’ NW...

GM Rinaldo |

Shamak and Quenly cast magic to prepare for battle while Flyn disperses the swarms.
Manyshot destroys one swarm and the next two arrows get the other. Where do you want to apply the last shot?

Rosella Illicia |

Rosella air walks to get closer to the side of Beak, ready to provide support.
5ft up and over 20ft.
Melee attack against anything that gets near Beak with an opening strike.
Opening Strike Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Slam Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
If the Attack goes through and hits anything that approaches Beak, Beak attacks whatever is melee to it.

GM Rinaldo |

Rosella, does that use Beak's immediate action or an AoO, or is it completely free?
With one last arrow, Flyn kills one of the leeches, threading his arrow between the trees as if they weren't there.
Rosella moves beside Beak and prepares to assist the adorable bird.
One of the remaining leeches (Blue) swims toward the party. Double move.
Quenly's keen eyes notice that one of the cocoons furthest away from the party appears to be wiggling more than the others. I marked the one in question with a yellow background.

perception, gh, hb: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 13 darkvision, lowlight vision, see in darkness, blindsense 60'; blindsense means it does not normally have to make perception checks to detect creatures within range.
On the far side of clearing - one of the cocoons is moving. We should hurry.

GM Rinaldo |

From his current vantage, Quenly's blindsense alerts him to a very large creature lying in the deep bog just in front of the party.
Sadly, the Perception check was pretty low, and the bog is filled with other things that make seeing details difficult with any sense. On the other hand, with that Stealth check, whatever it is doesn't seem to be reacting to your presence.
I'm assuming telepathic communication of this information to the party.

![]() |

Kindle dismounts the phantom steed, floating on the ground beside it. Assuming that is 5ft above swamp to dismount.
Now that he is at a safe level, he goes for a support spell to buffer his allies offenses. He focuses on the spell until he feels the fight no longer benefits from it.
Badger's Ferocy
Kramac, Shamak, and Beak; your crit range is now doubled.
Will keep holding this spell's concentration until it is no longer beneficial.

GM Rinaldo |

Don't forget that the Badger's Ferocity effect only lasts as long as the weapon stays within Close range of you. At CL10, that's 50'.
Kindle dismounts and casts a spell to aid the more martial members of the party.
Another one of the cocoons begins moving more than before. Near the bottom edge of the map, marked with yellow background.

Rosella Illicia |

Rosella floats forward, just above the swamp water, is ready to provide an opening strike for Beak. She unleashes a wailing shout that rallies her allies to fight more fiercely.
Opening Strike: Dex+BAB+Wep Focus+Greater Magic Fang+Battle Cry+Haste: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
Opening Strike Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
If the attack hits and Beak is adjacent to the target, Beak gets an attack.
https://aonprd.com/FeatDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Battle%20Cry
Benefit: A number of times per day equal to your Charisma bonus, you can let out a battle cry as a swift action. When you do, allies within 30 feet who can hear you gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear. This effect lasts for 1 minute.

GM Rinaldo |

Rosella triggers the readied action from below, but because it has reach, her own readied attack does not happen.
As Rosella moves toward the deep section of bog, a huge toad-like demon bursts forth from the fetid water, leaning toward her to bite her.
Rosella Perception vs hidden attacker: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16

Surprised by its sudden appearance, Rosella is shocked to find herself stuck in the creature's mouth, held by a sticky tongue! With the successful grapple, Rosella is automatically pulled 5' toward Fihralaz. At this point, Rosella can now attack it with her readied action. Her attack hits, but does no damage.
As it emerges, everyone it hit by a wave of noxious air.
i recommend life bubble now Kindle
Sure, why not?
Kindle also casts Life Bubble upon the party.
Thankfully, Quenly's forethought in suggesting Kindle cast Life Bubble proves fortuitous, and you are able to continue despite the foul stench. That's another major part of this encounter negated by a well-chosen spell. 60' stench aura, with anyone grappled being potentially nauseated instead of just sickened.
By coincidence, Firhalaz' initiative was just before Rosella anyway, so the readied action did not change the lineup at all. Quenly, Shamak, and Flyn are up!

GM Rinaldo |

For DR purposes, what kind of damage was that? Rosella has DR 5/Slashing and DR5/Magic.
That was magical piercing damage, so if that is two distinct DRs, go ahead and deduct 5 for the first one.
GM, can the strands attaching cocoons to the trees be targeted with arrows, or do they need to be cut from an adjacent space?
Only if you can do slashing damage with the arrows somehow.
Shamak, you did not state it, but I'm assuming you're maintaining both Inspire Courage and Bladethirst, for 3 rounds of performance?
=================
Flyn rains arrows down on the demon, striking the same spot repeatedly, and creates a deep wound in the hezrou's neck. All but #3 hit, applied clustered shot before DR.
Shamak strides up and roars at the demon as he swings his falchion. Fihralaz is clearly shaken by the bold half-orc. Fihralaz will be Shaken for 1 round.
=================
Quenly is up!

![]() |

We must get to the cocoons without delay! Finish Fihralaz quickly!
Judging his arrows inappropriate for opening up or dropping the cocoons, Quenly summons the shadows around himself. A portion of shadow breaks off, hovering in front of him. He gestures, the briefest of signs generating magical manifestations. The shadows swallow him completely, and when they recede moments later Quenly the elf is replaced by a small, bizarre multi-legged creature with a long neck and narrow, fanged mouth. The shadows cling to it still, holding it aloft.
Fear not, I remain Quenly. All flesh is an illusion: this the Gods have shown me.
Actions: move action to animate Animated Buckler; swift action to cast Quickened Divine Favour - with free Extend Spell from Blessing of Fervour; standard action to activate Many Forms and adopt Voonith form; free action to take a flying 5' step (can't fail Fly check).

Coup De Grace Damage, Power Attack, Sneak Attack, Inspire, Good Hope, Divine Favor, Bane: 1d6 + 7 + 6 + 1d6 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 2d6 + 1d6 + 7 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 6 + (2) + 2 + 2 + 4 + 2 + (6, 4) + (3) + 7 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 2 + (2, 1) = 66
I pasted the whole list of damage modifiers at the end for the crit damage, minus the sneak attack die, which is not multiplied
Perception: 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 20 + 2 = 35
After near chopping the Demon's head off, Kramac stands and peers into the swamp for a moment.
More demons are around! Tiny ones flitting from cocoon to cocoon! Protect the trapped elves!

Fort save vs CdG: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29 Nope, not a Nat 20
In a single smooth movement, Kramac slides off of Beak's back and swings his saber down, severing the demon's neckless head from its body.
As he does, one of the cocoons falls from its tree, and you can now make out a small group of quasits that were cutting it from its branch.
If the cocoon is not water-tight, whatever is in it is now submerged and drowning.
