I apologize if I misinterpreted what happened a few days ago. Due to some bad experiences I have had, I am very sensitive about respecting player agency in PBP. I had presumed if there had been a crossposting (ten minutes apart) that his post could have been edited if it had been a mistake, so figured since it had not been edited, the action was intentional and bearing in mind (but ignoring) my own character's actions. Still, I recognize that does no good to jump to conclusions, nor to stir up the pot over nothing. I humbly ask that we just forget it and move on, and I will take care choose more discretion in my responses.
This said, I figure there is no point in my character saying anything else at the moment. I recall that the GM asked that we post every day if possible, so I'm checking in to say that I am here but have nothing else to post IC at this time.

GM, you've got the map of the palace up, but I'm not sure where we are in it. Would help to see where we are positioned to see what we can do (for example, to tip over the guillotine as Alistair suggests).
To make things easier--we can finalize this IC but I'm posting here because it is a little easier -- how do folks feel about one of the following:
1 - Callie starts a Dirge of Doom performance (which will cause everyone to be shaken) after which the PCs attack. She'll propose this IC if this sounds good.
2 - If the proximity is reasonable, Alistair charges the gnome and/or guillotine
3 - We just charge straight for Pilt
4 - Give him one more chance via a counter offer -- Emperer hands over Scream now or we wreck everything.
Other suggestions welcome.

GM Skyreaver |

I was waiting for your group to act, but I'll update the map shortly here. The Gnome is not chargeable, both because he's on a raised platform, and because there are a bunch of people in the way.
I put up a map, but didn't put the crowd on it. Assume that every space that is empty has people in it, except for the 3 squares to the right of and adj. to Pilt, cause no one is going to try and get in his way of viewing things.

Garran Fain |

Garran's not one to try and waste the opportunity for surprise. We've given Pilt his options - let's take out his body guards and get him knocked out. We'll kick things off with a Dirge of Doom, then strike.

Callie Cobalt |

Pilt is the Emperor. The Gnome is the Executioner who operates the "Tall Knife" (the guillotine).

Alistair Wellington |

I will be going into surgery this Monday and will be home that evening. I am not sure when I will feel the urge to post, it could be a couple of days. Bot me as needed please.

Garran Fain |

The gnome has had 3 different attack modifiers this fight and I am very confused. It was +16 for the first hit on me (charge bonus, perhaps?), +14 for the second, and +19 for the third, without his damage changing on any of them. Does he have some ability that boosts his attack roll if he scores consecutive hits on a foe, and if so, is that an ability I can get?

Callie Cobalt |

I checked back to see when Pilt was providing "musical support" to his enemies, and could only find "Pilt begins rallying his men to action with his words..." Did I miss a more overt reference?
Otherwise I feel like as a bard, I (at the very least) should have been given a chance to recognize that (especially if it was actually musical, which doesn't seem to have been described prior; Callie uses Perform Oratory but it's still obvious she's telling a story or making a speech). Your description was not adequate enough to suggest a performance ("rallying his men to action" just sounds like he was saying "kill them!"). Callie can't countersong, but I could have switched over to a more effective performance sooner. I've never played a game in 32 years where it wasn't made clear that a bard was using a performance (I certainly try to roleplay Callie in a way that it is obvious).
Also could I have two points of clarification--
- Did I actually hit Pilt before he teleported? Would be good to know if he is wounded.
- Understanding that you may just have been trying to wrap up combat and give me a free strike, and thus at the risk of looking ungrateful: Callie used her AOO on Pilt and does not have Combat Reflexes, so technically she would not have been able to attack the guard.

Vrog Skyreaver |

You did not hit him before he teleported, but he was wounded (and actually hit his "If he gets this hurt, he escapes" threshold, which is rare imo).
As to the question about bardic performance, mechanically there's no way to tell whether someone is giving a performance (as opposed to, say, a fighter making a rallying speech or shouting encouragement) and if so to identify which one (this is a problem with alot of supernatural abilities, actually, especially ones that can be counterspelled, like with countersong). If it is an effect that you can specifically countersong, I will do my best to call it out. I was going to countersong your dirge of doom with Pilt, but it's not countersong-able.
I could have sworn that you had combat reflexes, but looking at it, I might have misread Combat Casting.

Skyreave |
Hey folks so this is Vrog Skyreaver. Sorry about the spam if we were in multiple games together.
Unfortunately, I have some bad news. I currently do not have access to my main account. I have opened a ticket to Paizo, but from the email I got back from them, it's not looking like I'll be able to access my account any time soon.
I would have posted sooner but I didn't even think about making an alt until now.
As it's not fair to everyone to make you all wait, I'm going to withdraw from GM'ing the game. If I get me account fixed and the game is still ongoing, I'll reach back out to see about starting the game back up.
Thank you for putting up with me, and I hope you can find another GM to replace me.

Callie Cobalt |

That really sucks, man. I hope you are able to get this sorted out.
Appreciate the heads up about the game. Disappointing but understandable. As the relative newbie to the group I'll defer to what they say about seeking another GM or waiting.

Alika Karela |

That's a real bummer. I hope you didn't get flagged for spamming or something!
It's usually really difficult to find replacement GMs, especially these days when people are clamoring for things to do from home but nobody has the bandwidth to run games. We can try, but I think the odds are... slim. :(

Garran Fain |

That's a bummer. I hope Paizo is able to get things up and running again soon.
I wouldn't mind continuing on with a new GM if we can find one. Vrog is the third GM for Alika, Alistair, and I, so maybe we can grab a 4th one.

Callie Cobalt |

I'm in another game with Vrog and I haven't heard from him in that since he first posted the account issue. He hasn't posted from his new alt since August. I think he's gone.
At this point, given my level of business with life and other games, I am just going to call this one a loss. If y'all want to seek another GM, I wish you the best of luck. It should be okay if the campaign fades to inactive, I believe it can still be picked up by a new GM later. Personally, I'd appreciate it if this thread weren't bumped in the meantime (unless it's Vrog posting a return) so it does go inactive so it's no longer in my active campaign list.
Good luck all, and happy gaming.

Alistair Wellington |

Good luck
To any that wishes to remain...I am going to reach out to Paizo and take this thread over into my games. I will then create a request for a new GM.
Once I get the game I will remove Callie so that the player no longer receives post notifications.

Callie Cobalt |

Thanks for both taking it on and agreeing to mark me as inactive. Good luck! :)

Rannik |

I'll send a request to gain control of this thread, but if they take too long, I might just transfer the game to another one.
As for players, Callie isn't coming back. So this leave us with:
Garren Fain : Fighter
Alistair Wellington : Inspired Blade
Alika Karela : Roaming Exorcist
So we have two melee character and one divine.
However, we have no arcane, no ranged and no trap/scout.
I have a game that is about to finish, I could invite some of them over. Normally, I like to have 5 players.
For Character Creation, I'm not sure what you guys were using, but one rule I like is to use the background skills. So, if you feel that it isn't too much trouble, you can modify your character.
Another question, do you know if your previous GM was using the original CotCT or the hardcover?

Garran Fain |

Alitair and I are on our third (or is it fourth?) GM for this, so I couldn't tell you.
I believe our original character creation rules were mostly standard, although I'll have to double check if we have background skills.

I tried to grab this game a few months ago and I am still waiting. With the current state of things in the world it may be better to start fresh with a new game thread.
I do not have background skills.
I do believe it was the hardcover book.

Rannik |

New gameplay and discussion thread are up. Maps and other ressource should be appearing soon. Post here!
Alistair, I don't see anything wrong with your character. Unless you used 3rd parties stuff, everything should be fine.
