Seif-al-Din shrugs.

"Well, I would personally prefer to finish following-up one particular thread before moving on to another, so chasing the azer first would be my preference, but at the end of the day, we need to visit both."

Nodding in agreement with Seif, Gnasher continues moving towards the door. "Tribe 'chase' azer."

Once outside he will continue moving towards the Pier.

With that decision made you return to the pier and sound the horn. As last time, it takes a while for the galley to arrive, but arrive it does. You give it instructions to head to the Isle of Flint (Khosravi). It is quite dark by the time it arrives but the trip takes about a week so there is plenty of time to rest. At one point in your travels a A giant squid falls from the sky flailing its tentacles in panic, though it is far enough from the galley that you remain safe, and it does not make a move to attach your ship.

Khosravi is a blasted and barren land of rock and gravel. Nothing grows on the island, and its skyline is dominated by two singular sights—the rise of an active volcano, Salenax, just off of Khosravi’s southern shore, and the immense stone spike of the Black Spire from the island’s center. The rest of the island is littered with ruined siege engines, broken towers, crumbling stone barracks, and other accoutrements of war.

These remnants of siege engines and other accoutrements of war that clutter much of the island give the place a strange, sterile appearance—that of a mass battle that resulted in no bloodshed or death, for nowhere are there bodies or bones to tell the tale of what occurred here. In some places, fires seem to have damaged large areas of the island.

Having noticed the nature of the island as the boat approaches, Gnasher, not honestly sure where they should go, asks as they exit the boat onto the pier. "tribe head to 'Black Spire?"

Keeping his bardiche in hand he begins to leave the pier and head that way. Observing the machines of war, he asks, "What battle took place here?"

Miteke, any knowledge checks that would tell us what happened here?

DC 25 kn nobility:
This is some obscure knowledge, thus the high roll. You have heard that Nex sent folks to Khosravi to drill and practice their martial skills and, if this was a training ground, that would explain the lack of bodies.

Where do you all head? Let's say it is noonish.

Keeping his bardiche a the ready Gnasher begins to walk towards the black spire, occasionally stopping and looking at one of the destroyed siege engines. As they walk, Gnasher, knowing his knowledge of magic was limited, turns to the others asking, "Why would giant squid falls from sky?"

yeah totally forgot about the squid, and knowledge check for that either?

Sure, why not? I mean, it is a giant landmark!

the party starts making their way east and north. The distance is deceiving, though, and a whole day has passed and it still seems a fair ways off.

This is a 75 mile or so trek and a person can usually make 25 or so miles per day if unencumbered. Is anyone hauling a medium encumbrance or more?

That night, during the evening meal, Gnasher finds himself in Seif's body, Seif in Malgrim's body, Malgrim in Shadow's body, and Shadow in Gnasher's body.

Chaos ensues! (i.e. have a little fun RPing the experience)

Having helped make camp, Gnasher sits down beside the fires. Eschewing the stew the others had made he pulls out a large strip of jerky. As the meal proceeds, he finds himself losing focus for a brief moment, and coming around in Seif's body.

Making an award face he looks down at the bowl of soup, then the seated body. Nervously asking in a voice that sounds like the language they used was created for it. "Please, pray tell, someone explain what magics have we encountered now?"

Shadow-Gnasher, upon waking up, lets out a yowl of horror, springs up onto all fours, and starts clumsily rushing around in obvious distress...

Woken by this, Seif-al-Din, tries to get up, but due to now being in Malgrim's body, falls over immediately. With a groan, they slowly stagger to their feet, bracing themselves against a piece of broken siege engine, and let out a bitter sigh in what is (to them) an unfamiliar voice.

"What in the Nine Hells happened?"

They try to calm Shadow-Gnasher down, but unfortunately, due to the Exclusive trick, Shadow doesn't recognise Self-Malgrim, and ignores them, working themselves up into a frenzied panic.

"This is *really* bad..."

They then look at Seif's body.

"Could you try to calm Shadow down?"

His eyes opening wide, as he realizes what's going on, Gnasher-Sief attempts to get up and realizes his feet are entirely different. Slowly returning to the ground he watches 'Malgrims' staggering and himself yowling in horror. When Seif-Malgrim looks at him and asks him to calm shadow down, he realizes the tiger possesses his body. Wishing he'd been the tiger instead of the man, he haltingly called, "Shadow, it's ok, calm down. Go to sleep it will be alright." Hoping the words were true he looked towards Seif and the tiger, wondering who was there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Shadow is comforted by Seif's voice and calms down a bit, though she still seems to be struggling with all the new and modified sensations. Still she is a companion and smarter than the average animal, so it is more a matter of curiosity than panic and she begins licking her furry leg. At least the fur is consistent, though it tastes nasty and requires a lot of cleaning. Boy is she going to have quite the hairball in the morning.

Heh. I never thought this would come up, but... Shadow knows Ignan... they just didn't have vocal cords capable of speech before...

Taking a break from cleaning their fur (which has helped to calm them down a bit), Shadow-Gnasher turns their head to look at Malgrim-Seif, and after a few unfamiliar starts, begins speaking in a language reminiscent of roaring flames.

"Boss, nini kilitokea? Mimi si wa kawaida. Je, unaweza kuirekebisha?"

Ignan:
"Boss, what happened? I am not normal. Can you fix it?"

They then give Malgrim-Seif a look filled with hope and trust...

Miteke, did this happen at dinner, or while we were sleeping?

And almost as quick as it happened, each of you return to your bodies. You do not see anyone about that might have cast a spell, and the whole ordeal reminds you a bit of the falling squid.

You continue on your trip after sorting things out and a couple of days later you see a large lumbering hulk of a creature charging towards you. It makes no move to be stealthy so you may begin the engagement at whatever range you wish and whatever tactical setup you prefer. This will be theater of the mind (i.e. no map).

To identify is a DC 21 arcana roll.

DC 21 knowledge arcana:
This is a stone golem, a construct made by a wizard most likely. Hey, wasn't there a powerful wizard around here at one time?

With the Extended Range blast and the Far Shot Miteke gave to me, I can start blasting at 240 ft. Only one could be Empowered and Composite, but the rest of the rounds I could Empower and extend the range. I am not sure if we want to start with me blasting at that range though. There is no SR on my blasts, so I should be able to affect it.

Seif-al-Din nods assuredly.

"That would be a stone golem. I wonder whether Nex made it himself, or someone else dropped it off here?"

As it gets closer you notices that it's fists are covered with little worse for wear medicine balls. It's got a movement of 60'/turn at the moment so launch your attacks at will, listing the range the attack is made at. It will probably never make it into melee!

Malgrim gathers power and lines up his first shot to go as soon as he can fire.

I use my buffer point this round to pay for the Extend, so I can Empower and use a Composite Blast without gaining Burn.

Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow , DA: 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 24

Damage, B, Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow ,
DA:
6d6 + 14 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 5, 5, 4) + 14 + 6 + 4 = 46

If an AC 24 hits, I do 69 magical bludgeoning damage.

Malgrim sends a second blast!

At around 180 feet, I will gather power and do a Composite Blast with extended range.

Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow , DA: 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 17

Damage, B, Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow ,
DA:
6d6 + 14 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 1, 6, 1) + 14 + 6 + 4 = 42

Not likely, but if a 17 hits I do 42 Magical Bludgeoning Damage.

Malgrim keeps up the Fire!

Gather Power and send an Extended blast at 120 ft range.

Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow , DA: 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 30

Damage, B, Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow ,
DA:
6d6 + 14 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 6, 1, 4) + 14 + 6 + 4 = 46

Hopefully, 30 hits for 46 Magical Bludgeoning Damage.

Malgrim fires one last blast before the creature can get into melee range.

At about 60 feet I do not need the extended blast anymore, so Gather Power and back to Empowered Composite.

Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow , DA: 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 16

Damage, B, Mud (Earth/Water) Blast w/Elemental Overflow ,
DA:
6d6 + 14 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 4, 6, 5) + 14 + 6 + 4 = 52

Yeah, a a 16 almost certainly misses, but would have done 77 Magical Bludgeoning Damage if there was a bunch added to that roll.

Malgrim manages to hit once at 120', though the tough stone exterior reduced the damage.

Both fists hit and she is battered about. But, again, those fists hit like medicine balls and do half non-lethal so she takes 14 lethal and 14 non-lethal.

Our large friend to the east opens up on Malgrim. Again. Since he is the only threat to it at this point it only makes sense, and a golem always acts according to its programming!

Shadow scratches it up a bit but when Gnasher finally starts getting his mojo back he dismantles the rest of the stone golem, leaving his cannoneer buddy to continue the assault alone.

Malgrim is not nearly as accurate as the last time and his mud bath merely hydrates some thirsty and feeds some hungry plants.

The golem is far more accurate and really nasty and scores a solid hit on Malgrim to the tune of 110 damage and Malgrim falls unconscious. It is NOT a good thing to be critted by this one.

How does the fast healing effect 'non-lethal' damage?

Seif turns shadow into a blur and she closes like she was teleported and unleashes paw after paw full of sharp talons. Gnasher and Shadow find that there is another one of these golem creatures moving forward to the cannon golems position as they top the rise (it will be able to move and attack when the golems go), this one made of metal but with the same padded fists. Shadow is able to score a couple of hits but they do not do as much damage as hoped (24 damage). Gnasher is unable to score a hit at all, finding this one to be heavily armored.
