GM Rinaldo |

Let me know what exact actions you intend to take, and what other preparations anyone else is taking. Right now I have Ushi with eyes closed, and Laiashi holding her daggers.

GM Rinaldo |

Looks like Nino and I posted at the same time ... since they were watching you, there is no surprise round. I'll roll initiative and see who acts first, you or either of them.
Before I resolve that action I'll let Patros tell me what preparations he is making. Also, I need to know if anyone besides Ushi plans to close or avert their eyes. This isn't technically a "gaze attack", but it functions similarly, so I'll use the same rules. If you choose to close your eyes and roll higher than them on initiative, you will either have to open them, act with eyes closed, or delay your action.

![]() |

If it works similarly to a gaze attack, can I avert my eyes (giving myself a 50% chance of avoiding The Bad Stuff, but imposing a 20% miss chance against the targets) instead of closing them? If yes, I'll do that; if not, I'll just keep them closed and hope for the best.

GM Rinaldo |

Yes, if you want to avert, I'll give you the 50% chance to avoid the dance, but you won't be caught blind to anything else that might happen before you act. If you close your eyes, you are guaranteed not to be affected by the dance, but will be blind to anything else until your action comes.

GM Rinaldo |

If you want to use the Aid Another action, either to help Nino's attack or AC, you need to be able to attack the same creature he is; if you want to aid attack, you have to do so before he rolls his attack.
Also, I'm going to assume that was "move up then close eyes", since closing your eyes first would cause you to be moving blindly, which comes with a chance to trip (unless you have Blind-Fight).
It's bedtime, I'll start the combat in the morning. ;-)

GM you're talking nonsense. It's morning and I just got to work. HAHAHA!

With everyone else ready and averting or closing their eyes, Nino rushes in. He brings his greatsword down on the skeletal snake, and finds that "hit it harder" does indeed work. It gets its DR, but you did a good chunk of damage anyway.
Patros and Ushi are up! You are free to use your eyes on your turn, but at the end I need to know if you are looking, averting your eyes, or closing your eyes:
> Looking - no penalties, but subject to the Dance of Death
> Averting - 50% chance not to see the Dance of Death, but lose DEX bonus to AC if they attack
> Eyes Closed - Avoid the Dance of Death, but have the Blind condition with everything that comes with it (no DEX bonus, additional -2 AC, and automatically fail sight-based Perception checks).
Nino needs to decide on this as well.

![]() |

Knowing that he has little else to offer in dealing with the constructs, Ushi speaks a blessing of encouragement.
Casting bless, as he doesn’t need to open his eyes for that.

GM Rinaldo |

Got busy over the weekend, sorry for not posting at least once. Going to have Patros closes his eyes and delay since there is nowhere he can go to attack this round.
Ushi casts a spell of blessing and keeps his eyes closed.
01-50 Laiashi sees the dance: 1d100 ⇒ 19
Laiashi Will Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 Success!
As expected the snake in the back performs its Dance of Death, attempting to mesmerize you all. Laiashi tries to look away, but can't avoid the undulations and the rhythmic click of the bones. Despite this, she manages to keep her mind on the task.
Red bite vs Nino (blind): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Nino Fort vs Poison: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Just barely!
The other one bites Nino, whose closed eyes make him an easy target. It rips a large chunk of his arm open, but somehow the half-orc avoids getting poison in his system.

After striking he steps back. 5ft

GM Rinaldo |

Damn, Nino ... 42 damage from the crit will take out most things, DR or not. :-) Remind me why you are getting two +6's to your damage?
Nino opens his eyes and brings his greatsword down, smashing the skeletal snake into powder.
Red is very dead. Nino, at that point you are no longer threatened and could take a move action instead of a 5' step, if you want to move back far enough to try to draw Blue into the room for Laiasi and Patros. Feel free to adjust your position. Patros and Ushi are up!

![]() |

Damn, Nino ... 42 damage from the crit will take out most things, DR or not. :-) Remind me why you are getting two +6's to your damage?
First 6 is (str 18 (4) and two handed weapon (additional 2)) and second 6 is from power attack with two handed weapon. All that is in description of attack (mwk greatsword power attack, Furious Focus)
I will move 10 ft back instead of 5ft

The power of Power Attack. :)
Ushi opens his eyes, careful not to look in the direction of the enemy while drawing his wand and touching it to Nino.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bleh. Gaze averted.

![]() |

i posted earlier and it didn't stick...odd
Patros holds his position and closes his eyes as he waits for the creature to come out. He waits to try to fend off an attack.

![]() |

Power Attack goes up by BAB though, giving you +6 damage at BAB +4. Yours is a +3, right?
You are right, I have mixed BAB with level so damage is 2d6 + 6 + 3

GM Rinaldo |

Patros, I'm going to interpret that as a readied attack, same as Laiashi.
Patros and Laiashi hold their weapons ready as Nino backs out of the crypt. The remaining necrophidius sways and bobs, but does not follow.
01-50 Ushi sees the Dance: 1d100 ⇒ 4
Ushi Will save (mind affecting): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
Ushi tries to keep his eyes averted, but catches a bit of the motion and is drawn in.
Patros and Laiashi are around corners and Nino isn't watching. Ushi is Dazed until further notice. Everyone else can act.

Thanks. Still plenty to destroy Red with the damage it had already.

GM Rinaldo |

With the creature not falling for the "draw it out" tactic, Nino wades back in, swinging his sword but not connecting.
No save needed as you blinded yourself on its turn. It's not a passive gaze attack. Sadly, your attack didn't hit. Everyone else but Ushi is up!

Laiashi moves in closer, within reach of the remaining construct. (This will provoke an AoO.)

Laiashi Fort save vs Poison: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
As Laiashi moves into position, the necrophidius bites her, drawing blood but not able to inject enough poison to stop her. She reaches around the corner with her dagger, scratching and scorching the bones.
Laiashi's crit confirmed, but is diminished by DR. Snake is still active, and Patros can act.

![]() |

Patros moves in and swioes at the creature. He then readies a parry as he closes his eyes to ward off the gaze.

After that last healing, Nino should be at 26/39 hp. Decide what additional healing you want to do.
Investigating the crypts, you find that the sarcophagi hold the remains for four fetchlings. Among the bones, you find a magical necklace and a magical cloak.
Anyone with Detect Magic can attempt Spellcraft checks to identify them.

GM Rinaldo |

You go up the stairs and find yourselves in a hallway that wraps around in a circle, with numerous closed doors.

Nino starts walking. He stops in front of the door and when all are near him, he opens the door in front of him. see the map

GM Rinaldo |

Laiashi Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
The door to this room is locked, and at least at first attempt, Laiashi is not able to unlock it.
The DC is above your Take 10 (unless you have additional modifiers that aren't on your profile). You are welcome to continue trying, and even spend 2 minutes taking 20 if you like. Or if you have other bonuses to add, let me know.

"Oh, you stupid..." Laiashi flips to a different pick in her toolkit and tries again.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Nope, no extra modifiers.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
If that's not high enough, I'll have to spend the time and take 20.

GM Rinaldo |

Laiashi tries again, and eventually manages to get the door unlocked.
Inside, the elegant room resembles a fine dining room on the Material
Plane, spread with a feast fit for a great lord, complete with fine porcelain dishes and silver spoons.
The wall on the far side of the table appears to be bleeding a black ichor.
A stairway in the room’s northwest corner leads up to another floor.

![]() |

"Have a care not to touch the far wall. That substance could be dangerous." Ushi attempts to divine any magical auras on the ichor before the party enters.

GM Rinaldo |

Nino steps up the stairs, finding another hallway.
Map revealed; I moved Nino up to the next floor but everyone else is currently still down below.
