La Serenata Notturna, the Night's Serenade - Ranerius
You slip blood into a wine glass and hand it to Gino who drinks it slowly and then quickly, "Tart Signore' but what an amazing vintage!"
Gino is now 1/3rd Blood Bound to you! Do you want to send him away through the back door and then slay the other two or try and bound them and send them on their way as well? You cannot be sure they will be as useful as Gino may prove to be though.
He waits a time, for his vitae to sink in. Then says "Thank you, it's a specialty of the house. You must return, I'll serve it myself to you again." He says "Gino, I need you to go out through the back door."
Probably going to try to kill them, if he can lure them one by one into the room the better but he knows it's tricky.

Bernardo activates celerity and grabs the fallen Prince and is out the door! Unfortunately, in this damned city, there are mainly buildings and cobblestones.
Right behind you, you see Durdona holding the body of Bagrat exit the building, "We..." she begins to speak and is cut off as Bagrat produces a stake and tries to drive it into her heart! But the Assamite is quick and drops the Ghoul trying to twist away from the strike.
She does not dodge the strike but then neither does she end up prone at the end of its edge.
Bagrat it seems is quick on his feet and is up immediately.
Durdona attempts to knock the stake from his hand, "I am trying to save you fool!" The stake goes clattering along the cobblestoned street.
Dragan then exits the Inn and attempts to tackle you! He manages to bump into your leg but cannot tie you up as you continue to head away from the Inn.
Bagrat Stake 2d10 + 2d10 ⇒ (10, 6) + (7, 6) = 29
Durdona Dodge 5d10 + 2d10 ⇒ (1, 2, 10, 6, 8) + (9, 1) = 37
Stake Damage 2d10 + 2d10 ⇒ (1, 10) + (4, 4) = 19+1
Durdona Soak 3d10 ⇒ (7, 4, 3) = 14
Durdona Attack 5d10 ⇒ (6, 6, 8, 9, 10) = 39
Dragan Tackle 5d10 + 3d10 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 9, 4) + (3, 10, 3) = 36
Einar grabs a Mortal and feeds it to Belisarius.
Gregor remains by the bar unsure of what to do now that his dreams have become reality.
Round 2
Suddenly standing before you is the female in black as if she materialized into existence right before your eyes, all you see is her eyes, "You cannot escape me young one. Hand him over to me and you shall live to see tomorrow night. Fail to do so and you shall go to his grave with him. I give you this chance but once".
Prince Narses is unmoving and unresponsive.
Casting about, you realize that you cannot outrun her to any nearby soil and sink in, this blasted city...

You rip out his throat and the man who gave you life falls to the floor. He begins to bleed out and looks up at you. His hand shaking, he caresses your face. He tries to speak but only a horrific gurgling sound escapes his lips. You cut his throat and prevent him from dragging this out any longer.
He is dead, blood begins to pool on the carpet. You stare at the painting for a minute and disappear from your old life, one less tie binding you to the Mortal world.

Durdona yells out once she realizes what you are about to do but it is too late, the die has been cast. You bring to your mouth the neck of the Prince, so depleted, its is easy for you to drain his essence from him utterly, he rots and crumbles to dust! The little liquid in his body is now in your mouth and throat and your face and hands are covered in what remains.
You feel fire course through your veins.
Shabah bows to you and approaches, "The Prince was no prize to me".
From behind, as you fall to your knees and shake, a hand is placed on your shoulder. It is the Elder Ventrue. "Know that if Narses re-emerges within, it shall be you we Hunt next time".
You turn back and see Dragan pick up the stake knocked from the Ghouls hand drive it through Durdona's back and she falls to her knees and then flat on her face. The Gangrel looks poised to do to her what you just did to Narses but Shabah places a hand up and the Ventrue yells, "Stop. She is ours".
Dragan growls but does not protest further. The Viking exits the Inn with the other man standing at the bar and the Ventrue speaks once again, "Tell your Sire it is done. The debt is paid".
The Viking emotionless turns and he motions to Dragan and the Ghoul. All three of whom stalk off into the night together. The Ghoul does not even look back. Dragan does turn back once more to look at Durdona longingly like a wild animal would if another predator took his meal.
The other man speaks and stares at you with ash on your face as you convulse with a feeling you have not had since the Embrace, "I... I... I do not know how I feel".
The Ventrue nods, "Vengeance as the dead is about as satisfying as it was as the living. Once achieved, it does not take long to feel hollow.
Know that Narses' past crimes are not what I cared about, I am not a man with unclean hands. The future crimes that Bastard would have perpetrated, that is why I agreed to end him. Others judged him for his past crimes and I hope they feel a satisfaction I do not once word of his Final Death is received.
Gregor. Go. Now. I wish never to see you again for you are base and vile. In many ways no better than Narses for he at least had principles, you have none".
Gregor nods in agreement! He then fades from view. Shabah walks over to Durdona and picks her up gently, the two women also fade from view. The Ventrue turns back to you and kneels, "I admire your conviction in the face of overwhelming adversity. It serves you well but may well end up sending you to the Final Death. But it will not this night.
You owe the Prince of Padua nothing now. That was his Sire you committed Amaranth upon.
You have made allies of Narses enemies and enemies of Narses allies".
He stands and merely walks away.
The rain begins to fall a bit harder, washing away the ashes that covered you.
Where to now? You know that another Cainite was staked in that Inn and you did not see him exit nor did anyone speak of him.
I believe you were 7th Generation. You are now 6th Generation.
You gain the following:

Valdemar nods, "Yes, Sicily, the domain of Gratiano himself is where we met.
Constantinople eh? Narses is sorry to have lost it as a vassal state but then that particular Brother of mine was not nearly as clever as he believed himself to be.
Indeed, Narses would welcome new blood to Venice, we have had some.. attrition... among the members of our Clan recently.
I will arrange for an introduction tomorrow night, tonight is, too busy to do so".
Vykos interjects, "Tassilo, I fear that I cannot invite you to stay here as my prior guests will be returning with business most urgent. Valdemar, tell Narses that I have chosen myself as Justicar and do not object to any selections made by the other Clans.
If there is nothing else, I would ask you two to step outside and conclude your conversation there. I am sure that the Seneschal can give more insight to what is taking place in Court than I can my new friend".
Valdemar's lips pull tight in frustration, "I shall do so.
Come Tassilo. If you have questions or wish to set up lodgings for the night I can and will assist you.
Most of what I had planned this night has borne only frustration already. Perhaps more mundane activities will make the end of the evening more fruitful".
Tassillo half bows to Vykos, "Lord Vykos, my sincerest thanks for the welcome and informative conversation this evening. I do look forward to a prosperous partnership with you in the times to come."
Tassilo turns to Valdemar and motions towards the door, "I do believe I will accept your offer of assistance in lodging this evening. Please inform the Prince I look forward to introducing myself tomorrow evening and learning of how I can be of service to the prince."

"Excellent. I shall bring you to Elysium.
In the labyrinth beneath are cells that can only be entered and exited by practitioners that hold mastery of Obtenebration. You shall be safe there. I shall leave word with my Sire that you will stay in one.
When you wake, simply use your powers to step into the throne room. Ware, the shadow being that dwells there may visit you. Whatever it is, Narses is its Master".
Valdemar brings you on a Gondola ride to Elysium. A clever series of canals lead to an area that appears abandoned by Mortals as all buildings are vacant. One small canal leads to an isolated "island" which can only be reached by water. A run down dock and even more run down building dwell on the small plot of land.
Valdemar leads you in. You step through the threshold of the doorway to find this is not the ruined building it appears to be from the outside. Covered from ceiling to floor in white sheets. The marble floors are flecked in gold and platinum but they shine with a surprising brilliance. Light from the hallway beyond flickers catching these flecks.
Statues representing Catholic saints sit in alcoves every 7' from one another, atop each one sits a long tapered white candle. Though the light given off is weak somehow the shadows dance erratically in a manner that does not match the flickering of the flames. The effect is somewhat, disconcerting as if the shadows themselves are alive in this place. And based on what Valdemar told you, you know that this is teh case.
The farther in you go the air is covered in a fine smoky mist coming from thuribles which are placed every ten feet suspended from the ceiling. Smells emanate form these censers, the smell of frankincense fills your nostrils.
As you step into the chamber where the Prince holds Court front of each alcove are the small black tables etched in each table are symbols filigreed in gold and platinum:
while the tables on the left are filigreed in copper and steel:
Finally, there is a 13th table that sits alone, in the middle of all of the others towards the front of the audience chamber.
Upon a raised dais are 13 seats made of walnut wood and decorated with inlays of ivory, mother of pearl, colored wood and precious stones the symbols of 12 match the symbols on the tables in each alcove.
In the alcove behind each table sits a different image:
Clan Cappadocian - In this picture Jesus is condemned to death.
Clan Ventrue - In this picture Jesus carries His cross.
Clan Setite – In this picture Jesus falls for the first time.
Clan Salubri – In this picture Jesus meets His Mother.
Clan Nosferatu – In this picture Jesus is given aid by Simon of Cyrene in carrying His cross.
Clan Tzimisce – In this picture Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
Clan Brujah – In this picture Jesus falls for a second time.
Clan Toreador – In this picture Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
Clan Malkavian – In this picture Jesus falls for the third time.
Clan Tremere – In this picture Jesus’ clothes are taken away.
Clan Gangrel – In this picture Jesus is nailed to the cross.
Clan Assamite – In this picture Jesus dies on the cross.
Clan Lasombra – In this picture the body of Jesus is taken down from the cross.
The raised dais and its 13 seats made of walnut wood and decorated with inlays of ivory, mother of pearl, colored wood and precious stones with matching Clan symbols to the tables in each alcove are still present.
Also present is a set of statues made of gold and inlaid with precious stones depicting the same figure in different poses, an angelic figure the identity of the figure is not known to you. Hanging between suspended from the ceiling is a Fourteenth picture.
It shows Jesus being laid in his tomb.
All of the chairs, or thrones, are unoccupied at this time. Valdemar takes your hand and pulls you through the shadows. You find yourself in a small chamber, one that is plain and barely furnished and could be a cell for a Monk.
"When the suns rays disappear. Exit and the Prince should be there ready to take your formal introduction. Rest well Brother".
Your night is over.

The Inn of the Setites is smilar the Inn of the Malkavians as formerly a Mortal Inn rented by the Cainites to provide sustenance for those Elders and their new Childer dwelling within. No changes have been made to the structure other than the front door being locked most of the time and the place has fallen into a bit of disrepair. You crinkle your nose at the Mortals as they have started to smell a bit. You wonder how much longer this can and will last.
The Mortals here languish, their minds forever altered by the horrors casually visited upon them unable to act in their own best interest due to the heavy Dominate used against them. It is possible other powers of the Blood are used against them as well. What their lives will be like after this who can know, madmen and madwomen most likely.
When you consider them all that way, you have almost a glimmer of sympathy for them, almost.

Vitaliano watched with some distaste. Honestly, while he understood the need to keep the secrecy surely there was a better way then burning inns to the ground once they were done. If one were to believe the humans were cattle, surely a farmer would do better to nurture his flock and keep them healthy and contained than to break them and kill them off only to have to get a new herd soon enough.
His musing gave him time to consider the position that humans now held for him and how he should be looking towards the future for keeping his own supply going.
When he heard the door open, his mind was pulled back to the present and he looked upon his quarry. "Please, if you are not feeling up to it, then the conversation is just simply about coming up with a plan as to how to deal with finding Simon. Given the only lead is a one armed man...well it is what it is. And do not worry about the time so much, staying awake isn't so horrible so long as one stays indoors. Your patron has offered me a room and given the time, I'll take him up on his hospitality." he said simply.

Doctor Benne takes his leave, downstairs, what escape way there is down there you cannot recall as you head towards these Hunters. You walk through the hallway, mentally preparing yourself for battle. This would have been different had you and your Sire no needed to fight to control this place, then Ambrogino destroyed more defenses in his own invasion a few days ago.
You look upon this place for perhaps the last time, the closer you get to the double doors you can hear voices, many, many voices beyond.
"The power of God compels you!" You hear a screech as if from beyond the grave, a spirit most likely sent by Benne. This leaves you, the last line of defense.
The doors are pushed open, their gilded images of hell glint in the light. If the building were not so deep you have no doubt that you would be burning now as you can see the sun's rays shining down on the open front door! Even that light is so strong as to damage you here.
The front business that the Giovanni set up, the mortuary is disheveled.
The desks are overturned, scrolls scattered everywhere. The two Mortals attendants who operate the business both on the floor, bloodied screaming for mercy but alive.
Two dozen men, all armed and armored stand within. Most wield crossbows. Those that do not wield sword and shield. One man stands out from the rest, he wields only a greatsword but something about that sword makes you feel uneasy.
Each man has around his neck a cross, at his belt at least two stakes and suddenly your dead blood runs cold. You have seen these crosses and you have seen these stakes. Indeed, Dominic's warehouse stored these very items, the very items that a Ghoul in the employ of Prince Narses discovered, the very items that led you to where you stand this day. You pray that these Mortals left the sulphur pots behind else you will die in a conflagration.
Wielding fire in one hand and death in the other you stand fast. The leader speaks, "I am Claudio de Mendini, Knight of Acre, servant of the one true God. Fiend. Surrender. We are well versed in the ways to slay or immobilize you. You cannot stand against the will of God!" You tremble as you can feel a force of will behind his words but not so much that you need obey.

Seeing the number of bolts headed his way, Lorenzo is thankful for his foresight to drive his vitae to enhance his physical prowess as he dodges two of the bolts.
Dexterity + Athletics (limited by Humanity) Diff 6: 5d10 ⇒ (4, 10, 8, 10, 4) = 36

Soak 3: 6d10 + 2d10 ⇒ (3, 7, 7, 2, 4, 10) + (6, 6) = 45
Snarling with growing anger, Lorenzo says, "I gave you a chance...what happens now is on you and your folly." as he hurls the flame from his hand at the motionless knight.
Perception + Alertness (Limited by Humanity): 5d10 ⇒ (5, 8, 4, 5, 10) = 32 Not sure on the difficulty - with nothing listed in the book, I'm assuming 6. 1 fire damage per turn until extinguished or runs out of burnable material.
With the flame dispatched, Lorenzo looks for cover from the next incoming barrage of bolts.

Sorry, I meant 4 OR 5 not 4 and 5, need one more soak. No, soak rolls are never reduced except by a specific effect.

Lorenzo sidesteps one bolt and the rest pelt into him harmlessly, not one drawing blood.
The fire released it strikes Claudio, frozen as he is, he does not scream nor does he burn! It is as if he is protected by some force from your flames!
You move towards the inner hallway as the next set of bolts are fired at you as you turn to enter the hall. Only one hits you but it hits you in the back where your heart is...
Soak 2 damage.
You hear the sound of the initial Knights attempting to reload their crossbows.
Another Knight yells out, "Charge after him!"
Despite their zeal, you can tell they are being cautious in their approach to this endeavor.

Will post later as I need to get to some heavy duty work today, note that you cannot botch a soak or a damage roll so you take no damage!

Storyteller Shadow |

I knew that soak and damage couldn't be botched, but I thought 1's still removed successes. Excellent, I'll take it! ;)
That may be the case actually but I've never played by those rules since 1993 so I am not changing them now. Much as I appreciate V20 some things I won't change based on tradition :-) Will get a post up a bit later.

Lydia struggles to get up as you exit the room to attempt to strike one of the Knights, for a second you glance at the booted feet in the hall and their assembled crossbows but push forward nonetheless.
Such a wall of Humanity throws you off of your rhythm, whatever that may be for someone that has long been a non-combatant and your fist strikes the Knights armor with a ding. The crosses hanging on their chests give you a feeling of discomfort but so far, you have seen no evidence that God is on their side.
The Knights down the hall stop and begin to aim at you, perhaps because they know hitting your heart is not easy and perhaps because the fear striking their fellow zealots.
The one who dove for you and missed enters the room to confront Lydia.
Meanwhile, the two Knights blocking your way strike at you, "You are trapped Fiend!"
Both Knights strike you now in better stances due to being set in place for the fight, one on the shoulder, the other your leg, their blades are heavy!
