Venice The Year of Our Lord 1309

Pope Clement's excommunication has come to pass. Doge Pietro Gradenigo is beset politically by his foes within the Great Council. Open Rebellion may burst into the streets any moment and the unrest is palpable.

For the Cainite residents of the city it is business but not as usual.

A Grand Conclave has been called by Elder and Neonate alike seeking to end the so called War of Princes which has waged since the fall of Constantinople to the Fourth Crusade.

This open warfare of the Cainites has allowed large numbers of humans across civilization to discover the existence of Vampires among them. Something not seen since the fall of the "Second City" city of Vampire myth. The Silence of the Blood has been tattered though not shattered.

Through these tatters have stepped Mortals that Hunt the Hunters! An Inquisition by the Church which has uncovered and led to the death of many Cainites, mainly Neonates. Regardless, this conflict has alarmed even the Elders who are wise enough to see the dangers presented by mass awareness of the existence of their Childer.

Thus, from the Ashes of War, a new body politic has been formed. The Camarilla. A sect created to protect and nurture all Cainites from the eyes of Mortals and each other, or has it?

Night falls and a storm rages! The sheets of wind buffet the city making the rain fall like arrows. Vision is limited even for Cainites. An ill omen for the night of the first night the Camarilla will officially meet.

Everyone mark off 1 blood point for waking this night.

The Mausoleum - Ranerius, Lorenzo, and Bernardo

Ranerius

As early as you are able to you make your way to the Mausoleum for the meeting with the Cappadocians. The streets are quiet even though it is 7 pm. Perhaps it is the driving rain but Venetians are seafaring people so why should a little (or even a lot) of water keep them indoors? Strange, perhaps the Doge has called for a hard curfew? IN the distance you hear horses and the clash of steel, perhaps you are lucky you have seen no one…

You hammer on the front door soaked to the bone as you wait.

The doors opens and a tall gaunt pale Cainite stands before you, ”It is quite early to be paying a visit is it not young one? What could you possibly want at such an early hour, I can practically see the sun still pinking the sky!”
---

Lorenzo

You wake. There are literally a half dozen things to consider and all of them are important. Perhaps the most important is checking in on your new guest for the evening, Bernardo. The Cainite was tight lipped as to his purpose for being in the city. As you exit your room, you see the door to Bernardo’s quarters also opening. Echoing into the hall is a booming from the front door. For some reason, the double doors to the day to day operations are wide open, odd. Then you hear the voice of Ambrogino Giovanni answering the door.

---

Bernardo

You wake. Time to see through your duties to your Prince. You will need to play nice with these damnable corpses of the Cappadocians. Your sleep was not as restful as you would have liked. No comforting earth around you even though the room is well adorned for one who appreciates such comforts. Strange energies of this place effected your sensitive sensibilities. Whatever was going on by day was… not natural.

You open the door to a booming sound, sounds as if someone is knocking on that front door. This place is all marble so the echoes are quite loud. You turn to your right and see Lorenzo stepping out from his room as well. You hear the front door open and a voice you do not recognize speak.

You are shaken awake and sit up unthinking to attack that which would disturb your sleep. The hands that grip you are too powerful though, you hear the soothing shushing of the young Prince. ”I had to wake you, you will find that you will be sleeping far too late until you regain control. Sit down. Meditate. You must regain your composure before you leave this place my young friend”.

Make those checks!

Your Haven to the Blue Mongoose Savio

You set out, armed, for the Blue Mongoose to meet with one of your brethren, granted an older less successful member of Narses Brood but still one that is an elder to you. What should have been an easy question to answer has become a strange riddle. Who is the Man with No Name? Why is Alejandro being so secretive about the man’s origins? Soon you shall find out no doubt.

The rain soaks your heaviest coat quickly. You push through the wind and rain and see few Mortals out and about. The storm throws off strange rattling sounds and what appear to be distant echoes of the clash of steel, probably the storm playing tricks on you.

You arrive at the Blue Mongoose and enter the place, one of the few below ground establishments on the island. The place has a damp feel. The clientele sit in their drinks and mutter to one another. The man behind the bar gives you a sharp look, it is one you find a bit hostile. Before you can approach this offending Mortal you catch a flash of a hand motioning to you, it is Alejandro.

The pounding rain wakes you earlier than you are used to. The sun is down earlier due to the dark skies. You step to the window and watch the rain batter the pane of glass rattling it with its harsh winds. From here, you cannot even see the sea.

What a small change in only a few days! This new life, unlife, has been a whirlwind. You were a simple nun and now you are second on the seat of power of a group of beings that you had only heard of in old legends. But are you really second? Can not most of these ancient beings end your unlife should your Sire take his leave as he says he must soon? Can you risk reaching out to your Mortal contacts within the Church knowing that you are now anathema in the eyes of God?

These thoughts swirl in your head as the door to your room opens and in walks Dark Selina, ”Greetings Sister Maria. I will leave this night and I wished to speak with you before I left”.

You watch as your mistress makes an already bad storm worse. She rages on the roof of the Hotel and screams at the storm, increasing its intensity to smash into the city as only nature can.

She turns to you, not wet at all as you are drenched, ”Failure! This has been a failure! I must take my leave and report to the Council in Vienna to explain myself. You must stay here, discover what has happened. Question all of the leaders, find out who they voted for. It is clear that the Outlaw found some way to cheat. Once you find all of this out, contact me, use the ritual I taught you before we went to ground for the day last night!” She begins to rise into the air.

Questions before she literally flies away? Also, add the Level 1 Ritual – Communicate with Cainite Sire, to your character sheet.

You are once more, your own man. No Gustav. No Lanzo. You shall sit upon the council representing a Cainite you have never met. You have no doubt that this will be the greatest challenge you have ever faced.

As you come down to the front room, a vessel sits looking out the window at a raging storm which batters the house. Your heightened senses can hear some leaks in the roof trickling into the manse. This storm is as bad as any you have seen since coming to Venice.

She turns to you, ”My Lord, do you hunger for me? I am here for you. Once you are sated, shall I begin to gather your belongings for an outing or will you remain here for the day? One of your advisors stated that you may be moving back and forth between houses”...

With the overhead clouds you were able to get up and out quickly, a bit groggy but when all one is dong is looking for information, the earlier start the better. None of your contacts know of or have seen this one-armed man. Perhaps it is time to join forces with this snake…

Michele

Michele, you wake and hear the storm overhead. It seems that the skies are weeping for the tragedy that you and only few others know, may take place this very night. You peer out the window to ascertain just how bad it will be this night and see the Malkavian standing out in the rain, it seems he is fighting with himself to figure out if he wants to come see you or not. His feet have led him to your Haven but not to knock on the door just yet…

Vitaliano stood there practically fuming. This search was taking far longer than he'd like and it seemed everyone he knew was useless. He'd have to make sure to broaden his range of clients once he had the time to deal with such matters. For now, though it seemed that he would have to work with Michele. Still, this wouldn't be a pointless endeavor. Perhaps he could find an ally hidden amongst the Snakes.

He hoped perhaps it was pure paranoia on his Sire's part with what he was told of the Setites...but he would be on his guard while in their lair. He opened the door and walked into the Inn.

"An honor, Signore," To Bernardo.

"I was nearing the mausoleum, it was late. And my attempts to make introductions had come to naught. Then as I was about to leave, a Gondola came in, with a very distressed and ah inebriated man," He describes the man's features, "The poor fellow was despondent, and afraid. He went on and on about 'Lorenzo' and 'what to do, what to do?' . Hearing the name that you share, I inquired to which Lorenzo for I thought perhaps it should be you. He asked if I knew his brother... by then I was increasingly sure he was related to you. I did however say it depended on his family, but gave my name. Perhaps unwise to intrude into a family affair, but I did have sympathy for the man's condition. The door opened, and a gaunt fellow, the very same who oepned the door for me, if I am not mistaken, called him Dominic and said Lord Benne wished him to enter. I was then thanked for this brief escort, when in truth I had not done much except perhaps keep him from walking off a pier.. he was a bit dizzy. And was told I must come back tomorrow if I wanted a reward. I mentioned no need of a reward, but that I had hoped to speak to either you or Lord Benne himself on another matter. Hence why I presumed, perhaps too easily so that I would not be a nuisance to you. However it is possible he did not catch my name, or I did not properly throw it. Clumsy of me. I normally consider myself less socially awkward than that. I had assumed Dominic went to discuss matters with Lord Benne or yourself even. While he is not why I am here tonight, I had hoped he would be feeling much better. I suppose I could have inquired more of him, but it seemed tawdry to pry any deeper there."

"Please, have a seat. What it is you would discuss?"

Ranerius takes a seat as it is offered, and then says, "Doctor, I am in the stages of beginning a project that I believe Clan Cappadocian would wish to join in on. I believe it can possibly lead to the improvement of every cainite's prosperity and safety in Venice to some degree, and it will be a balm to the mortals as well. The Excommunication weighs on so many here, that the population is near in a panic. Tensions among them will build as they fear for their very souls. I know, some see us wolves among a herd, but even if so, a stampede can endanger even the most cunning predators. Others of us , particularly the younger ones, might still have sympathy. Thus motivated, my balm, if not cure for this danger is two fold." He takes a breath now, not because he needs to, but old habit, ""Songs about Jesus' forgiveness should be constructed, not challenging the pope's decree directly, but strongly hinting that the only thing that can truly sever a mortal from God's love is that mortal himself. It maybe low key heresy mind you, but what would the pope do about it? excommunicate Venitians again? On a more blatant stand, what we need is a monument, and within that monument, a saint's bones or ashes. Something the common man, in his ignorance, might gain comfort from just brushing his hand against. We should make both of these works of art, the song should be uplifting, soul stirring, and the monument or art where the ashes or bone with in were closed? Oh it should bespeak of a humble majesty."

"My clan can work on song, and sculpture and design of the building. Your clan is known for not just church ties, but knowledge of the relics of the past. I am not a fan of deception, but inspiration? Creation? Oh yes. It might also lead to a chance to study the human condition on both artistic, spiritual, and even physical levels. Your clan knows more of the secrets of death and what comes after than any. Imagine if you will a chance to observe, from a distance, the effects of such an element introduced? Hope against damnation? does it aid the spirit as I believe it would? Would the sink and injured in the city come into the night's view so they might be studied, from a distance, but those who would rarely get to see them so trusting? I do not suggest we turn it into a feeding ground, that would soon drive them away, but when they leave the monument, they will think perhaps far more of how there is hope of mercy, and less of destroying the city and our havens in despair."

"And, this is a chance to see what the Sect can do, how our Camarilla can achieve what no single clan could." Ranerius speaks with passion, but he hopes reason is his ally also.

Ambrogino watches as Ranerius and Lorenzo move out of sight to have their meeting. He turns to you, "Feel like a hunt before meeting the Prince Gangrel? I know a place where you can nibble I am sure the Gangrel in residence will have no objection.

I am headed out of Venice this night and it is on my way, I have after all, most of what I came here for".

The Mausoleum - Ranerius and Lorenzo

"You might wish to seek out the Salubri. Their council member, Brian Stack, seemed to get along with Simon of the Nosferatu in terms of religious leanings. You may find an eager partner there." Lorenzo says.

"If there is nothing else, Ranerius, I have a number of things that need tending to this evening." he adds, escorting the Toreador back to the foyer.

Onfroi nods after some time coming to himself seeing things in a new way thank you for the assistance. I look forward to learning more.

Onfroi changes his appearance and then leaves invisible returning to the conclave.

If it's not Talisman, I can't imagine who... It's all I can do to dress myself.

He had me deliver a message to Sadir, an unpleasant one. Perhaps the Setite chose unwisely.

Through clenched teeth, Alessandro speaks and makes himself presentable.

"The Salubri? mmm. A good suggestion, my thanks." He says, "I Hope this doesn't offend them.. But it might be worth the risk." He rises.

"Well I know that feeling..." Ranerius sympathizes as they walk. "You know , of course, I can be found, or a message left for me, at La Serenata Notturna if you wish. May fortune favor our enterprises. I must tend to matters elsewhere also."

And unless there is more, he withdraws

He may head to the Salubri as suggested, but also will be pondering hunting.

San Cassiano Residenza d'Epoca Ca' Favretto – Michele and Vitaliano

Vitaliano paused about to say something to his host when the basement door opened and closed by itself. He stared at the door for a moment before turning his attention back to the Canite in front of him "Should I worry about what I say here? I know the ways of hiding oneself well enough to know that our kind can eavesdrop quite well...or is it some other being I've not met yet in this long night?" he asked mostly out of curiosity.

Still, he entered as was bade by his host.

"Good luck with your duties for the evening, Ranerius. Until next time." Lorenzo says, before heading back beyond the double doors, having noticed that Bernardo was not where he had left him.
