Handout #1
Handout #2
Handout #3

Wwhhhhaaaat’s going on there folks?! It’s ya boy Chapel back again. Looks like I’m just a glutton for punishment.

I’m looking to run Gallows of Madness. I can guarantee completion of part one of the three. After that, if the group wants to continue we can move on to part two and then three.

Now the bad news.

I already have three players lined up.

There can only be one.

Because I’m only looking for one, this recruitment is only going to be up until Friday the 23rd. That means four days. Five counting today. I’ve been informed that one is interested in playing a spiritualist, one a skald, and one I’m not sure of yet.

Unlike with my Strange Aeons recruitment, I WILL NOT be running two tables. Just the one. Uno. Een. Jeden.

With all of that out of the way, here’s what I’m looking for in a submission:

Crunch:

-20 Pt Buy (no stat over 18 after racial modifier)
-Race: Most races are fine. Rule of thumb: If you think you have to ask, it’s probably a “no.” Looking at you Svirfneblin.
-Class: No 3rd party. Everything else is fine. If you want to make that Synthesist Summoner you’ve been itching to play, go for it. The only thing I ask is that you don’t ruin the game for everyone else.
-PF Unchained: Chained, unchained, I don’t care. I personally prefer aspects of both the chained and unchained Monk (why unchain him and then continue to release archetypes that don’t work with the new version?!)
-Background skills (2 per level)
-Traits: 2, can’t be same category.
-HP: Max every level.
-Starting Wealth: Max for your class
-VMC is permitted.
-Emerging guns.
-Please Spoiler your submissions so we don’t have large blocks to scroll through.
-I level at milestones not experience.
-Maps will be handled via google slides. Handouts and a loot list will be provided as well.
-I’m pretty lenient on most things (after many years of “No, you can’t do that” got tedious). Please don’t take advantage of that.

Flavor:

None of these need to be super long. A few sentences is fine. More is okay too (I’m guilty of this.)
-Appearance (Feel free to include a picture.)
-Personality
-Give me a brief rundown of your character’s backstory.

Extra Bits:

-Plan on posting once a day during the week. I work 8-5 and check the forums pretty regularly so the game should keep going at a steady pace. Weekends are a bonus, but I’m not very active on the weekends so I don’t expect you to be either.
-Don’t worry about creating an alias until you are selected. Unless, of course, you want to.
-What is your Time Zone
-How many games are you currently in/running? This is a bit of a bias but, I’d like to give some people who aren’t in several games already a shot. That’s not to say that if a submission particularly wows me I’m going to pass it over because the player is already running 2 games and is a PC is another. This is more of a tie-breaker.

Feel free to check out either of the two SA games to get an idea of my style. No sense in submitting if you think we wouldn't get along.

Ok, Princes of the Universe, get crackin’!

Dotting with interest

I'm the person who will be playing the spiritualist. In case it helps with the submissions:
* his primary role in combat will be support casting (mostly debuffs) and his ghost will hover around saying mean things to people (intimidate + antagonize). When not casting, Ngozi can help as a secondary ranged combatant.
* outside of combat, he has pretty good perception, heal and sense motive, plus scouting with the (small, sneaky) phantom.

For more details on his background, feel free to take a look at his profile.

dotting an interest...

A bit about me & what I am thinking:

Time zone is currently US Eastern. This does occasionally change due to work, but for the next several months should be solid.

I am currently running in about 6 games (a Strange Aeons, a Crypt of the Everflame, a RotRL, a homebrew that may or may not be dying soon, a Way of the Wicked, and a Hells Rebels). I have not played this particular game before, so it is new to me.

I can be somewhat flexible with what I bring, so if there is a noted need for the existing party members feel free to voice it and I will see what I can craft. That being said, I have an affinity for magus, monk, and fighter.

Am I right in reading that there is no campaign trait for this one? If so, is there a common background or backstory that would make some characters make more sense in being there than others, or is this more of a "group of wandering adventures walk into a town" type scenario?

@Ngozi:Thanks for dropping in.

@The Emerald Duke: There is no campaign trait. GoM is a 64-page, 3 adventure module. Essentially it is "you all wander into town."

Player notes:

Time Zone: EST (-5:00 GMT)
PBP Games: GMing 2, Player 1, Currently Applied (sans this) 2, and going to Assist a New GM.

Dotting in! Think I'm gonna re-purpose my Ratfolk hunter (and his kitty companion) I submitted for SA. Little busy today, expect something tomorrow afternoon.

Time Zone: Eastern Seaboard (EST/New York Time)
PBP Games: Playing in two, GM-ing none. Neither of the two are Pathfinder.

Likewise, I am the Skald player that was mentioned. Relevant crunch is along his profile for those looking into submission synergy.

While he isn't optimized for combat, he is perfectly fine to be buffing with his raging song on the front lines. In addition, he has a small amount of heals, and has the helpful halfling trait for +4 aid another bonuses.

Allow me to toss my hat into the ring! I'm thinking of a half-elf martial (probably paladin, though I understand he may be prejudiced in the setting) by the name of Felix Shadowshifter.

I'm Eastern Time - Michigan.

Appearance & Personality:
Selfless and social, Felix often thinks in terms of others and his surroundings before considering their effects on himself. Occasionally, this decentralized outlook leads him to shortsighted or disorganized decisions, but it also makes possible acts of immense compassion. He prefers words to swords, but is aptly-skilled with both. His newly-found magical talent (low-level paladin connection to the divine) is another story though, its execution still full of unexpected consequences. As a result, he is a bit embarrassed by his lack of ability - and greatly admires those who have mastery in the realm of magic.

Felix is an adonis, blessed with a muscular body and a magnanimous smile. His dark, flowing, mid-length hair and penchant for clothing (or absence thereof) to accentuate his assets means he's quite sought-after. However, the common folk that would chase him are seen as unworthy by his family, so he's had no official or lasting relationships. Comically, this artificial hard-to-get reality only increases his demand in the community.

Though he often puts himself in harm's way, he is very sensitive to pain, both physical and emotional. His strength of personality and physicality is an inadvertent distraction from the relative frailty of his bloodstream (likely a byproduct of the elven side of his heritage) and psyche; being restricted from deep relationships outside one's guardians has its problems.

Background:
I'm thinking Felix is from a family which is loosely connected to some minor nobility in the region - not sure if the Santinis still count. His family insists he aim for a relationship within that house to increase his (and their) social standing, yet neither the nobles nor he is interested. This clash of aims leads him to look to the common folk for escape in a social sense, and he often looks to escort trading caravans for escape in a physical sense - and a bit of coin. The differences he has with his family lead him to question the tyrannical society in the region and seek a more positive life.

Right now, I'm not involved in any games, though with the end of summer, I'm looking to get back into the swing of things! I've played over the past decade or so on the forums. The community has really evolved.

Let me know if you need any clarification regarding Felix.

Since a large number of paizo options are open it is hard to choose.
So time to randomise

Class(Ass/Skill): 4d100 ⇒ (25, 100, 61, 2) = 188
Paladin, *Warpriest, Ninja, Ranger
Class(Arc/Div): 4d100 ⇒ (68, 61, 26, 69) = 224
Sorcerer, Bloodrager, Cleric, *Oracle

Class (F): 2d100 ⇒ (68, 76) = 144 Oracle, *Warpriest

Race1: 4d100 ⇒ (20, 40, 43, 18) = 121 Human, Half-Elf, *Changeling, Elf
Race2: 4d100 ⇒ (50, 30, 76, 52) = 208 Aasimar, Tiefling, *Suli, Drow

Race (F): 2d100 ⇒ (1, 85) = 86 Changeling, *Suli

Looks Like I'll be working on a Suli Warpriest.

@The Emerald Duke & Ellion Hesoni: judging from the two PCs we know so far, I'm guessing we are a bit weak on the martial side, so all your suggestions (magus, monk, fighter, paladin) would fit in well, mechanically speaking. And then, as far as fluff goes, your character will have to travel with a guy who squirts a (putrefied) baby phantom out of his nose, so you might want to start thinking how they will react to that =)

@Ngozi: Gotcha, thanks for the heads up. Will be working on something tonight.

Just a quick heads-up on what we're working with at the moment:

Three confirmed players:

panegyric as Ngozi Yohansante: Male human (Mwangi) spiritualist with creepy baby phantom

Blue Symbiote as Dhomirren Tailbitter: Male Ratfolk Hunter with panther companion

Gyrwynt with Eisith Berrik: Male Halfling Skald

Submissions
The Emerald Duke undecided but leaning toward magus, monk, or fighter.

RHMG Animator with a Suli Warpriest

Ellion Hesoni with a half-elf paladin (maybe)

I hadn't realised that @Blue Symbiote was one of the confirmed players. Nice! Was really bummed your raging fashion designer wasn't picked on that stolen lands recruitment.

Got most of my crunch done, and working on Fluff.

Good to know!

@Ellion & Duke how we coming on crunch?

Ngozi Yohansante wrote:

nEWS TO ME TO WHA-? Chapel! Thank you so much! 8D

Yeah that character is definitely getting used again. She was way too weird to let go unused.

Also sorry I was so quiet the past few days. My internet went and croaked randomly. :P

Working on it. Been pretty busy with work the past few days... but...

character concept:

So my thought process for this one was based on the idea that whomever this martial fighter was, he would have to have reason to travel and reasons why he wouldn't care about strangeness of his companions as long as they were tolerant of his own reasons for wandering.

At first I was leaning towards outcast monk... but those take a few levels to take off. Besides, I am currently running a campaign with one.

So my next thought was why not a samurai? Specifically a ronin. Ronin have no lord or master, following their own code. But I didn't want to deal with a mount... pet mechanics get messy.

So... archetypes. Torn between brawling blademaster and sword saint. Still making up my mind.

Anyway, should have more tonight.

Sounds good! I have never looked at the Brawling Blademaster before. That is a cool archetype!

I'm interested in makeing a camel riding cavalier from Qadira (If you are using the Golarion setting). I'll work on the crunch, and add details before the deadline.

It is the Golarion setting but keep in mind that GoM takes place in and around a town.

I will keep that in mind.

Time Zone: Mountain Time
Current Games: I'm playing in one PBP, it's RotRL and my first PBP game.

Hassim Al-Murad:
Appearance
Picture of him 20 years from now.

Backstory
A little over 2 years ago, Hassim began his required military service for the Qadiran Kingdom. During his time there, he had a leader that he looked up to. That leader brought him into a secret order called The Keepers of the Shining Star, an anti-apocolyptic organization of Sarenrae worshipers. His military service ended recently, and his first mission for the Keepers was to go to Saringallow and investigate rumors about weird things happening there. (This is a flexible part to me, but I thought it might be a good reason to be in town, and looking at the product page I thought it could make sense.)

Personality
Hassim is quiet around people he doesn't know, friends of his know him a little better. They know that he can be serious during missions and maybe overly focused. They also know that when he's relaxed he has a good sense of humor. All around he is a good, loyal companion.

Do you want all the crunch written out for the application? He is a human cavalier, order of the star, his mount will be a camel. I've picked stats, but I haven't done skills, feats, traits, or equipment yet.

You don't necessarily need to be completely statted out.

Reminder that submissions end after 11:59 pm tonight. If crunch isn't fully completed, that's okay. I mostly interested in how the character could fit in with the other 3 PC's.

Got most of the crunch done, just equipment to do crunch wise.
Currently busy trying to finish off the fluff, as rendering something can take a long while to get stuff right.

If selected I'll get a height reference of the group made, then I can make group renderings.
Past Height ref made for a Carrion Crown game.

Hassim:
He will be taking the Honor Guard archetype, and is trained to guard leaders in battle. I plan on playing in a way that discourages enemies from attacking his allies, trying to force them to focus on him instead. His secondary roll will be melee damage, which I think he will be able to deliver on considering the spiritualist and the skald doing debuffs/buffs.

Still working, might not be 100% statted, but here is a rough synopsis.

Ibuki Minamoto:

Race: Ifrit, Sunsoul subtype.
Class: Samurai, Brawling Blademaster archetype
Order: Order of the Flame
Gender: Male
Alignment: CG
Deity: Shizuru
Physical Appearance: Inspirational Image
Traits: Unflappable Arrogance (Race); Ichimeiyo Champion (Combat)
Motivation: Ibuki has one goal in life: to prove that he is the best fighter in the world. Despite this, he still has a code of honor that he follows. He wants to fight the strongest, but on terms that make the contest fair. It is meaningless to defeat a strong opponent through dishonorable means. His word is his bond. He is loyal to his companions, and values their well being and his honor over any written laws.

Thoughts on interactions with the rest of the party:

Ngozi: I am not going to lie... Ibuki will probably always be a bit creeped out by the spiritualist's ghost baby.... especially if it always comes from his nose. Not one to particularly care about the afterlife, he would have little to discuss with the man. Which leads to the question: why does he travel with him? It is a question that I think that Ibuki is trying to figure out himself, truthfully. If nothing else, he has someone on hand to ensure that those he slays in combat can find peace. If there is peace to be had. And, in turn, he is on hand to defeat any that would attempt to prevent the shaman from doing his job. The stronger, the better.

Dhomirren: The samurai would likely be a bit wary of the hunter's pet panther, and would view his reliance on a "pet" to aid in combat to be bizarre. That said, he would be unable to deny the pair being efficient in combat, and would likely leave "weaker" foes to them to fight.

Eisith: This one would be a generality, given I don't have access to his backstory. Skalds in general love to tell tales... and unlike bards, they can "actually" fight themselves. Ibuki would probably love him as a result, wanting to give him fodder for increasingly epic tales to sing.

@Ngozi & DM:
Hassim would probably have been quite shocked seeing a baby phantom with multiple umbilical cords ooze out of Ngozi's face the first time. It probably would have been met with a stare and awkward silence. The second time, Hassim would have acted normal, accepting it as a part of who Ngozi is. Hassim would look to Ngozi when it came to questions of the dead and spirits, seeing him as a kind of expert on the subject.

@Eisith & DM:
Hassim would see some kinship with Eisith, both of them trying to fade into the background rather than drawing attention to themselves. On the other hand, Hassim tends to get more serious in dire situations. He might be a bit confused by Eisith's more open and somewhat crazed demeanor during dangerous events. Eventually he might get a little laugh out of it, knowing he can behave the same way at times.

@Dhomirren & DM:
You would likely be the first Ratfolk that Hassim has ever met, and would likely be surprised at the idea of a rat person having a pet cat. He might even find it a little humorous. That said, he would likely have a lot of respect for Dhomirren. The reason for that would be his kinship in caring for and having companionship with an animal.

@DM Chapel:
Are you okay with animal companion archetypes? I was considering the Bully archetype specifically.
Also, I changed Hassim's order to the Order of the Seal, it makes a lot more sense for the kind of order I was thinking of when first making Hassim.
I almost have the crunch ready, I'll post it as soon as it's done.

RHMG's Submission

PC interactions of Etna and others:

Ngozi:
Etna would enjoy Ngozi's wisdom, honesty, and debate on the religious and spiritual items,
but think he is cursed by Fumnanya and would find Fumnanya unconfortable,
as the first time she sees Fumnanya she'd likely want to throw up.
and might think it a Gutdragging Lurcher

Tried imagining Fumnanya and how it attacks, and yeah I'd feel sick myself.

Dhomirren:
She'd find this like a pardox, where a rat is higher in the chain then the cat, it's natural predator.
It'd take her a while to get used to the rat folk, as it'd likely be the first time she's met one, though she might of heard of them before.

Eisith:
Etna would enjoy Eisith's music and tall tales as well and some minor religious debate and discussion.
They would also likely compete in a competition(s) of Drinking and or strength like; drinking 3 ales then needing to do an arm wrestle.
He'll likely be drinking her under the table as she has a lower Fort save then him, and just beating him in strength checks.

Him being a short halfling though would at times poke at one of Etna's insecurities she has.

While we are waiting on a final decision I have been stating out a blank template with my crunch. About all I am missing is my equipment at this point... oh, and my backstory (though I mostly have that done, just need to get it pinned into place).

Link is here for convenience.

Good luck everyone.

I'll have the decision up later today.

Hokay. So, I went back and forth on this for a while.

But.

I finally came to a decision on my lunch break today.

The Emerald Duke care to head on over to the discussion thread?

Thank you everyone else! As panegyric, Blue Symbiote, and Gyrwynt can all attest to, I do keep people who have submitted in mind when considering a new game.

Congrats to The Emerald Duke! I hope you guys have a fantastic game!

Congrats Duke, have fun guys.

Thanks for the selection GM! And best of luck to the others in future applications and games... you guys had some really cool ideas!

Grats & enjoy the game!
