Coughing through his soaked handkerchief, Gellius finds himself out of position but hurls his bucket of water at the fire spreading down from the stage. Turning and hurrying back towards the entrance, he sees his companions all holding their breath, in lieu of covering their faces. That’s a much better idea! When he reaches the fresh air by the door he inhales deeply, preparing to hold his breath for his next foray.

I’ve assumed I can’t really begin holding my breath so close to the fire and smoke, so I’ll take more handkerchief reduced damage this round and begin holding my breath next round.

Revka pulls herself up proudly as she hands her bucket to Deckard, hoping that he won't see her cowardice for staying away from the fire. As soon as she's without bucket, she turns tail and heads back to the entrance for another bucket. She's still holding her breath, and occasionally looks over her shoulder to see if their efforts have any effect. It's not spreading any further, but how are we going to get there?

Once she has a new bucket, she hoofs it back to her previous spot to hand Deckard (or anyone else) her new bucket.

Extraneous thoughts starting to wither and fade, Gethric settles into a mechanical approach to the problem at hand. Silently cursing his short legs he bustles outside of the rotunda, dropping his empty bucket and taking in a draught of fresh air. Fortified he grabs a replacement water bucket and hoofs back towards the danger.

Still holding her breath, Darla moves up to the burning stage (into square F12) and sends her bucketful of water cascading over a swath of flames (E10&11, F10&11), extinguishing them. Then the bard scoots back the way she came, either taking Revka's bucket (if Neven hasn't taken it already) or heading outside for a fresh bucket.

Stride/Interact (extinguish)/Stride.


Darla douses more of the flames eating the stage before returning for a new bucket.

Deckard pushes through the council's table and chairs to the other side of the stage, where he douses most of what remains burning on stage, leaving only a small flicker of flame at the back wall.

I'm not sure who took my bucket, Darla or Deckard. Regardless, I seem to be doing useful work.

Against her belief, Revka notices that the group seems to be fighting back the fire. Could we really save the building? With her hands empty, she runs back for a new one to hand to Darla.


Darla is in position to take your bucket but hasn't yet. (Her last action was a Stride.) You can delay your turn until after hers and do what you said (Stride, Interact, Stride to end back in the same square), or you can set the bucket down for her to pick up on her initiative, then Stride and Interact to get a new bucket to carry back next round (Interact, Stride, Interact, ending in N16). Dropping the bucket as a free action would spill the water. Which would you prefer?

Darla nods as she sees Revka leave a bucket on the floor before scooting away to grab another. The bard picks up the bucket and moves toward the stage, preparing to douse the last bit of flames there.

Interact/Stride/Stride, ending at D11 or D12. (She probably doesn't want to be in D11 if the flame's due to spread into that square.) :)


The flame in D10 is on the rotunda side of a wall at the back of the stage and can't be accessed from the corridor. (Conversely, the flames in D-E4 are on the corridor side of a wall and can't be accessed from the rotunda.) Someone's going to have to get up on the stage to douse that last bit of fire, either by climbing or being lifted, unless you convince me of another clever tactic. Would you care to revise your actions in light of that information, Darla?

Seeing that there's still some fire on top of the stage, Aronida runs over and carefully climbs up. Oh good, there's a bucket here already. She runs over to it.

I’ll try again...

Aronida tries to climb up onto the stage, but she’s too short to get a good grip on the edge and she falls back to the ground.


Aronida attempts to climb the side of the stage, but between the fire which weakened the structure and the water which made it slippery, she can't get any traction. Falling back down, her feet go out from under her in a puddle, and she hits the floor.

It looks like those two will be able to handle what's left of the fire up there. I wonder how bad it is backstage?

Making his way up the stairs and into the corridor behind the rotunda, Gellius goes looking for the source of the fire. Squinting his eyes as he moves through the smoke he makes his way to where the fire first appeared.

Two strides will get me to D5, then an interact to douse the corridor (D-E 3-4) with his bucket of water

Seeing as how most of the fire is cleared away, Revka figures she doesn't need another bucket of water. She uses the opportunity standing by the door to take a fresh gulp of air, then quickly hustles back. This time she dares approach the stage. Spotting that Darla tries to climb up on stage, Revka calls for divine guidance. "Great Dreamer, we've worked hard to save the town. Like you showed me... Please help the friendly Darla to... to do the last bit." *cough, cough*

Stride twice to J12, then use one action to cast Guidance on Darla. This grants a +1 circumstance bonus to a single attack rolls, Perception check, saving throw or skill check in the next round.


Revka moves back up the aisle and risks inhaling more of the thick smoke in order to invoke a blessing on Darla's efforts.

Hustling back out of the corridor Gethric notes that the last of the pernicious fire is burning atop the o'er high stage. Judging his athletic prowess as lesser than that of his companion, Gethric instead hustles back with eyes on an additional bucket. He takes prudent measure of his lungs and seeks to refresh with another sweet inhalation.


Seeing that the fire in the corridor has been extinguished, Gethric hustles back up the aisle as fast as his Small legs can carry him and takes a grateful breath of smoke-free air.

Darla sees the fire almost out...just that one little area at the back of the stage left to deal with. Placing both hands atop the stage floor, the bard tries to hop and scrabble/pull herself up.

Aronida forces herself off the floor. Okay. Climbing the stage was a bad idea. There's got to be stairs around here though, right? Or a ladder? She runs backstage, trying to figure out how to get up.

I remember something about a ladder, but am not sure where it is. Aronida will take however many actions it is to find the ladder and climb up it to the stage, and from there to the water bucket.


Getting up off the floor, Aronida dashes backstage in search of the ordinary means of descent from the stage. Down the corridor to the east, she sees a rudimentary sort of staircase, half in and half out of a storage room. There are hooks at the top to secure it to the edge of the stage and wheels on the bottom to move it more easily.

Frowning as the flames in the corridor subside, Gellius leaves the rotunda fire to the others. How in the world did it break out? Suspecting foul play, he examines the area for any sign of deliberate arson before rushing down the corridor outside.

Seek action in the corridor. Then a stride action to the backstage door at E0. If it’s open, he’ll seek again outside. If not, he’ll interact to open the door.


It's clear where the fire started: against the southern wall just west of the doorway in E6. The floorboards and lower wall are especially blackened, where some sort of accelerant must have been used, and there are curled and crisp remains of paper and fabric.

Gellius opens the door at the end of the corridor and finds that it leads into the western wing of the town hall. An exterior door on the right leading out toward the riverbank stands open.

Darla nods her thanks to the goblin and hops up onto the chair, finding it rather unsteady. When she tries to hop from chair to stage, the chair skitters out from beneath her and poor Darla finds herself kissing the floor. Groaning in pain and coughing more deeply, the young woman regains her feet to try again.

Couldn't Darla douse the fire from where she's standing? It looks like she could douse D10, D11, E10, and E11 without getting on stage at all. Just Interact to grab the bucket and another Interact to douse.


Darla struggles to pull herself up onto the stage. She kicks the chair out from under her but manages to grab hold of the lip of the stage and dangle.

Deckard jogs back up the aisle and reaches up to set his own bucket on the edge of the stage on the opposite side.

Aronida's head is starting to swim from the lack of oxygen, but they're almost done. She goes and grabs the movable staircase, taking it back to the stage. Hopefully then someone will be able to get up on this thing to douse the last of the fire!

Stride to D13 for the staircase, Interact to grab it, Stride to F12 (if I can get the ladder down the stairs) or D8 (if I can't get the ladder down the stairs).

Gellius hurries to the open door leading outside to see if he can see any fleeing arsonists, taking a breath of fresh air although leaving the mask over his mouth.

I'll stride outside and use seek. Not sure how many actions that is, but if I've got one left I'll either pursue any likely looking suspects (shouting for townsfolk to get the others) or I'll seek again.

Gellius ducks out the back door and takes a grateful breath of clean air. Now that the corridor is open to the outside, the cross-breeze seems to be beginning to clear the smoke from the building.

Once outside, Gellius can see Monument Circle crowded with citizens taking part in the bucket brigade; the lines extend around the town hall in both directions. A bridge extends across Breach Creek from the circle of water towers; it seems likely that any arsonist coming out this door would have fled across the creek, but no one presently in sight is drawing attention to themselves by running away from the building.

Turning away from the river, Gellius checks the escape possibilities in the other direction. The grounds of the town hall are bounded with a low stone wall, so the only other likely way someone fleeing may have gone would be back to the main road toward the southwest; that way leads to the nearest gate out of town.
