Mob hits the bugbear with her maul while foaming with rage. Then Gareth moves up the bugbear other side while Zano and Jathal both attack. The Bugbear seeing this moves out the way of Zano and his swing misses. Jathal sling bullet goes wide. Hanako seizing the moment kicks and manages to find a soft spot. Then Bugbear moves up Jathal seeing that she is spellcaster and he swings with two hands with bastard sword 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
the bugbear's bastard sword critically catches Jathal off guard 2d12 + 4 ⇒ (4, 8) + 4 = 16. Jathal falls to the floor.

Seeing Jathal go down Gareth tries to act quickly to bring down the bugbear. He lashes out with his rapier and shortsword in quick succession trying to find an opening to strike at a vital point.

Gareth opens up the bugbears defenses with precise sword play from his rapier. Seeing an opening, his shortsword finds the bugbears heart and he buries his blade there. Before the bugbear even realizes it, he's dead. Gareth quickly removes his blade as the large creature falls to the ground with a thud.

Jathal once up looks around and finds a minor healing potion. Between Hanako & Zano they find 2 flask of holy water (pg 571) and a wooden shield. From here if you at the map you can either go to A4,A6 or go babe to A2. Please let me know.

Hanako flings the empty bottle over her shoulder. She doesn't even flinch at the tinkling of broken glass.

Offering a hand to help Jathal to her feet, Hanako says, "Thank Shelyn you are still with us. I was very scared for you."

The warrior-actress certainly appears shaken. (And she is not acting!)

Mob pants heavily as she stands over the fallen bugbear. "Who in the nine hells is this! Where is everyone?"

Looking around for any sign of her tribe Mob stumbles across a wolf fang talisman, but no sign of her people. With her muttering in goblin growing progressively louder as she moves about the room you suspect it will not be long before she begins shouting for her tribe.

Hanako is too distracted by her concerns for Jathal to hear the sounds. She responds to Garett's words.

"Careful, yes..." To Jathal, she says, "I will try harder to make sure enemies do not slip by me and get to you."

Zano opens a couple of doors and whispers to the group I'll enter the room from this way, you all enter the room from that way. He does not open the door leading into A6 until everyone is ready.

"Oh!" Hanako sees Mob's tone is devoid of anger. "Friends of yours are here?"

She almost adds and safe, but stops herself. If all of the goblins were safe, they would have easily crushed the big monster guy and exited the building.

Hanako stays at Jathal's side, expecting the next room has friendly goblins, and that any hostiles are more likely to set up an ambush or a coordinated attack through the doors. (But of course everything she knows about coordinated attacks is through on-stage choreographed fight scenes, which never work out for the loudly-whooping ninjas. She's not even sure what her villainous characters are trying to accomplish, other than rushing into the hero's reach to die spectacularly.)

The group moves into the Drill Auditorium you see.
To the north of many rows of stadium-style benches stands
a wide dais. Garbage clutters what was once undoubtedly
a pristine floor. A small corridor near the dais leads to the
west, while to the north, an iron gate provides a view into
a central courtyard.

I am going to assume that you all will follow Mob
You now see
A short flight of stairs leads down to an open-air courtyard
surrounded by imposing octagonal walls, while a heavy
iron gate separates it from the halls to the south. A few
errant milkweeds and tufts of crabgrass protrude from the
cracked cobblestone flooring. The ground to the west is
sunken in, creating a natural pool of rainwater. To the north,
the battlements above have partially collapsed into a huge
mound of stone and wooden rubble, under which some sort
of reptilian creature seems to have been crushed. The top
half of a flight of wooden stairs rises up to the battlements
above the collapsed section of the walls; broken plants
from the bottom half lie amid the rubble below. A thick
rope has been affixed via a grappling hook to the lower
portion of the stairs, dangling down to within a few feet of
the top of the rubble pile.


The desperate shouts and barking growls continue here,
but now their sources are obvious. The shouts come from
the battlements above, where a few goblins and a halfling
man holding another goblin at knifepoint can be seen. The
man seems to be threatening the goblins, while the goblins
look like they’re pleading for mercy. The source of the
growling is of greater concern, though—for it comes from a
large, draconic beast not far away at ground level, roaring
at the delicious but inaccessible prey above!
The Goblins at top start yelling at the group!

(Since he's got a hostage, I doubt he'd make an AoO vs Hanako since that would compromise his control over the hostage. Likewise, I can't attack him without putting the hostage in grave danger, and Hanako won't gamble an innocent life. So my third action is to act!

Hanako sees the halfling has taken a goblin hostage. Chief or lowly grunt, a life is a life and the goblin is innocent. Hanako wonders why the halfling thinks threats can break her so easily, as Mob thought earlier at the bar—but then it occurs to her:

I am dressed as Princess May-May! I appear to be a weakling—a damsel in distress.

No, none of the heroes and villains here know the character—routinely kidnapped by the Dinky King, waiting for the Super Stache Bros to rescue their princess before beating each other senseless to win her heart. All they see is an unarmed woman who looks nothing like a warrior.

Perhaps I appear to be a magic user like the beautiful Jathal—who can perhaps cast safely if the enemy believes I am the magical girl.

Virtuosic Performance: Impassioned Delivery: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14 (My d20 must have been replaced with a Magic 8 Ball.)

Getting into character, Hanako acts as if intimidated by the threat.

"Oh, please do not harm the innocent. I... p-promise not to cast my... s-sorcery upon you, for as long as the hostage remains in your g-grasp, I am-m... c... compelled."

Hanako sounds like the submissive Princess, but she hopes the true meaning of her words is clear to those who the truth of her abilities.

Jathal has no desire to be attacked again and moves behind Gareth, butting him between her and the beast. She holds her slingstone and keeps an eye on the beast as Hanako does something. She is not sure what but she will wait and see how it pans out


The Halfling moves backs and screams at the monk And who are you? Oh wait..The do-gooders from town. You were supposed to burn in the fire! What are you doing here? No closer I will cut this goblin's throat if you don't leave at once He moves his knife closer to Helba's throat.

Hanako speaks slowly to the halfling. "You seem to be confusing checkmate and stalemate. Allow me to cooperate by explaining our current impasse. You cannot harm your hostage. For the moment my friends see Helba's blood, they will race each other up the rope and break your limbs, then remove your eyes. You will be healed so you live like this.

"However," she says in her calm and gentle tone, "you are very fortunate that I climbed first. It is my error, for there is only one sorceress among us. I cannot use my magic now, here in front of you, without endangering Helba. A smarter tactic would have been to have a strong fighter up here, and the sole magic-user below.

"And now my recklessness has trapped me. I cannot leave my position, for Helba will be in grave danger should you realize what I already know to be true:

"If I, the only sorceress, were down there..."

She gestures down to the party, eyes meeting Jathal's.

"...there would be nothing stopping me from casting my spell to make you my willing slave."

Hanako remains in place, hands passively overhead, hoping her friends now realize the full meaning of her message.

And when the hostage is dead, what will you do then? you run out of bargaining clips if you kill the hostage. Maybe you want something, money, fame, power, revenge, to fullfil your master's wishes? Magical items? diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4


The halfing being fully engaged with heroes lets his grip lose with Helba she manages to wiggle out his grip. She shoves him and runs past Hanako to the rest of the tribe. He drops his knife and looks angry at the party. He snarls and reaches for his knife!
