As the shock from the sudden attack beaks just as suddenly, many of the townsfolk flee the square to the south east. Some escape outright, but most seem to have bottle-necked in that area, leaving their backs open as easy targets. The one villager that was attacked turns to run now that help has come (withdraw action). Some few (very few, comparatively) hear the call to take up arms, and pause in their flight to fling whatever they can find at the attacking goblins before hurrying towards an exit.

A couple of negative 5's in there. Sadly, a few fumbles, but no crits. The combination of improvised weapons and throwing into melee destroys their chances of hitting outside of a crit. I will say that the goblins are distracted, though. Like dazzled.
A barrage of random detritus rains down near Dol and Missug. Tankards, rocks, sticks, someone's shoe. But though some bounce off the goblins armor, none make enough impact to actually cause any damage.
The fight to the north seems to be slow going, but handled. The brave group of travelers, however, also appears to be caught off guard by the appearance of the goblins. Many an attack sails wide as though the first instinct was to fire and not as much to aim. Only Mizzug connects, her teeth rending into the rancid flesh of goblin arm, tearing and chewing, but not killing her foe. Red dot indicates the goblin that has taken damage (4).
---AND NOW THE GOBLIN MENACE---
We will start with Bumbo's target.
Goblin Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
So it loses its turn. Lucky little pooch. Oh, and the dog crawls away as well. Hobbling 15 closer to Bumbo, who called out to it.
But the other 3 get to do stuff.
The one near Toot looks at him and smiles, licking his lips at the thought of a giant pig dinner.
Short Sword Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The crudely made blade slides down Toot's side without even leaving a mark, the goblin jerks his hand back and stares at his sword in confusion, wondering why it didn't even seem to faze his dinner.
The two in the south:
Hearing Dol's insulting words, one of them runs around to try and stab at him, still chanting the goblin song, seeming to punctuate it's words to refute Dol's version of it. Took the long way around to avoid the AoO.
Short Sword Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The one attacked and bitten by Mizzug yelps in pain, but then attacks with renewed ferocity, seemingly upset that a long shanks could have long teeth.
Short Sword Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12
Thwarted by their targets armor and natural agility, these goblins seem unfazed as their confidence is directly disproportional to their skill.
A lucky round of no hits kind of across the board there. Huzzah low rolls mixed with low modifiers. And now everyone else is up. Also, thank you to everyone for being timely about this. If you haven't noticed, I tend to update fairly early on in the day as it is the best time for me to do so. So having everyone take their turns before I get on really helps out.
Mizzug
Bringing her large maul up and over her head, the goblin has ample time to step aside. With a feral growl, she snaps her jaws on the poor little guys neck and rips out his throat!
Vile fluids seeping from her snout, Mizzug shouts in triumph. "GOTS ME ONES!!!"
Turning her attention to the one behind her, she sidesteps around it. "Yous turn sirs. Tastes 'ike pig!"

Bumbo'kla S'agonnagin
It's hard to tell if Toot is more furious at the goblin trying to kill it, or Mizzug's comment. There's no way he'd taste like goblin...
With a snort, the pig dismisses the thought and attempts to stomp and chomp the goblin to his north.
Bite damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Hoof 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Hoof 1 damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Bumbo grins at the dogs escape, then uses one of his innate abilities to speak with it. Get behind me, my friend, I'll protect you! He then moves to put himself in front of the canine to guard its escape. He raises his fists in an attempt to pull of the stance of a practiced pugilist.
Aventail
Seeing Toot in gainful employ and loving it, Aventail nods to the dwarf, setting off after him. She clambers across and over the stairs, then launches a javelin at one of the goblins menacing the executive members of the town.

Assuming the goblin didn't somehow one-shot me...
With the unarmed civilians now temporarily safe, Dol smiles at the goblin and begins singing a song about forging in Dwarven.
Pulling his warhammer out he takes advantage of the compromising position the goblin is in and punctuates his song with a hammer blow at the creature's bulbous head. As he does so, a shoe bounces off of his shoulder sending the warhammer wide.

Okay Dol, thanks for the honesty. I had forgotten about that.

Not really a one shot.
Aventail and Razkiv: Both of you need to compeltely re-do your turns. The fight above the stage is completely for flavor to keep the high level NPC's from making this no challenge. Stick with the 4 goblins you are engaged with. I know I put up a lot of text at once, but this was stated at the beginning of the combat.

As the dog runs away the fire druid tosses another ball of flame at the goblin that was attacking it.

--Townsfolk--
Seizing the distraction caused by those brave enough to stand up to the goblins, many of the townsfolk flee the field of battle. In fear for their lives, most don't even look back as they head towards their homes (presumably). One, however, can be seen hiding behind one of the stalls, silently cheering on the fight.
--NPC's--
Stabbing one through the heart, Sheriff Hemlock motions for those still on the stage to head towards the church. Recovering from her shock, Mayor Deverin pulls out a long dagger and covers Father Zantus as the Scarnetti man throws another dagger, taking one goblin through the eye.
--THE GOBLIN MENACE--
With one goblin down, the others seem to grow enraged.
1) In the south, the goblin steps away from Mizzug (the only longshank it has ever seen with teeth longer than its own) and towards Loth (who is more his size). He then tries to cut him down to even shorter than himself. 5 foot step and attack.
Short Sword attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
The attack glances off Loth's armor, no where near any exposed flesh.
2) The Stunned Goblin: Recovering from his shock, the little green monster screams in unintelligible rage as it charges towards Bumbo.
Move action (not actually a charge) and attack.
Short Sword attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Moving with some surprising agility for such a rotund little man, Bumbo easily dodges the attack.
3) The Goblin by Toot: Not realizing the danger it is in, the little ankle-bitter continues trying to shank the "pig" in front of it. Attack action only.
Short Sword attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Scoring a cut along Toot's flank, the goblin jumps from foot to foot in joy, looking to his allies and calling out.
Aventail

Hoof 2 damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bumbo leets out an Eep! then steps back. 5 foot step and uses one of his racial abilities to summon a small barking dog of torchlight that appears in front of the goblin, silently woofing in its face. Dancing lights, merely hoping to distract it.

We're quite the pair, Loth. We can keep swinging at this goblin all day, I think.

Razkiv, more concerned with saving lives than with Toot's disdain, steps up behind the goblin and strikes it down with a single heavy swing. It's small body crumples to the ground, dead before it knew what hit it.
Aventail and Mizzug still to go in this round. Then the villagers and the goblins.
Aventail
Unperturbed by her missed shot, Aventail turns adroitly to the south and heads toward Loth and Dol, her glaive-guisarme appearing in her hand from her back in a swift clockwork like motion. She stabs at the goblin...but becomes entangled in her own weapon..

Mizzug
Stepping forward, Mizzug smiles a toothy grin. "Yas no kin run from a longtooth! We's always gets us man."
Bringing the massive hammer down on the little goblins head, she squishes the poor beast before taking a bite out of if for good measure.

Another round of mostly cleaving the air, still 2 more goblins bite the dust and leave only a single survior left standing. Luckily, the great warrior Bumbo has been left to face off against it while most of the martial characters group up on the one poor squished one.
Mizzug: Normally your bite would have missed, but since the Warhammer out and out killed it, your teeth still make contact with the oily tasting flesh of the goblin.
--NPC's AND TOWNSFOLK--
With a few more sword swings and a few more thrown daggers, the two remaining goblins by the stage die. Sheriff Hemlock moves to check on the well being of the other town officials, before eyeing the remaining fight. He'd come help, but he's out of actions.
The few remaining townsfolk in the square flee except for the one still hiding behind the food stand and watching with rapt fascination as you all go about your grisly work. He is unblinking as his hand slowly rises to the counter, grabs a Sandpoint Witch's Hat, and brings it down to start slowly eating. You may hear a whispered, These things need a shorter name.
--THE GOBLIN MENACE--
The sole remaining goblin left alive steps back from the blue glowing dog that seems to have appeared magically in front of him. An intangible, glowing thing as though straight from his worst nightmares. A quick glance around shows all of his remaining allies in various amounts of pieces, scattered about the town square. But the sounds of other battles can still be heard elsewhere in town. His decision clear on his face......... he runs the f away (provoking from Bumbo if he has a weapon out).
GM Sphen
XP has been added to the campaign total. 200 out of the 1300 needed to level up. Congrats. You are temporarily out of initiative.
Seeing the threat neutralized, the other NPC's don't come and help. Instead, they choose to talk amongst themselves briefly. And, unless anyone intercepts him, Sheriff Balor Hemlock will be quickly leaving the square, sword still drawn, calling out to his guardsmen.
Aventail
Aventail will indeed attempt to intercept the Sheriff to offer her services to the militia in an attempt to be helpful and fulfil her civic duty.
Dol Stormmaul

Hearing additional battles, Dol will shout out. "Come friends! The town is not yet safe. There are more goblins within the walls.
Leave the authorities to safeguard the gates and bridges. We will help the citizens."
Waiting to see if anyone else responds, Dol will start rushing toward the nearest sounds of battle.
Razkiv
"Dol I am with you, Aventail come with us the Sheriff has enough to deal with. Toot I know you are with me." he moves to follow Dol, assuming that Mizzug will follow.
Mizzug
"COWARD!" shrieks Mizzug after the fleeing goblin, her head cocked to the sounds of battle.
Propping the massive maul over her shoulder, she nods to Razkiv. "Aye. Mes witcha!"
Bumbo'kla S'agonnagin
Bumbo looks about in concern, but sees his small doggy friend safe and sound, and smiles. He wasn't worried at all about Toot - that one could certainly handle whatever they ran into more than Bumbo himself.
Toot nearly leaps to at Razkiv's summons, eager to find something he can more effectively squash and eat. Indeed, dwarf! Lead me to your enemies!
Bumbo merely nods and follows along, accustomed to Toot taking the front line with others while he remains mostly forgotten.
Loth Dalveran
Briefly paralyzed by the events that played out in front of him, Loth only really gets his bearings back once the others already run off. "H-hey, wait for me!" he call as he gives chase.
Once he's caught up, he gives Bumbo a quick slap on the shoulder. "Well, this isn't how I expected the day to go. Are you hanging in there? I imagine this isn't quite your scene."
Bumbo'kla S'agonnagin
Bumbo turns quickly, his eyes wide and pudgey fists raised. Oh... He sighs and puts his hands down. Sorry, Loth...I'm a bit jumpy. Yeah, not the sort of direct one-on-one challenge I usually see Toot go for, so I'm a bit out of my place. How about you? Glad to see you made it out of there unscathed!
Aventail
Aventail's face is a mask as she stares after the Sherriff momentarily. She does an about face and stares at Razkiv.
"You are right. And, I can retrieve my javelin."
The adamantian launches in a clockwork lope to pick up her errant weapon before rejoining her companions.
GM Sphen
Aventail, as you make your way towards the Sheriff, he makes eye contact with you. When the others shout for you to follow along, he simply points after them with his drawn sword and nods his head.
As you all head out of the square, you pass through a few empty streets where the only sign that anything is wrong is a scattering of food left behind on the ground by fleeing villagers. Doors are shut, windows are locked. But the sounds of battle draw you on and you quickly find another (smaller) town center where a group of goblins are trying to force open a wooden gate. Cries of help come from the other side of the gate, and a dog lies dead nearby the fence, it's throat slit. 3 goblins are taking turns pushing on the gate, while a 4th is standing a short way off, singing the song. Even if you don't speak goblin, you've quickly come to recognize the off cadence chatter that this song is. The 4th one also seems to be trying to light a torch and is standing next to a wagon of firewood.
Goblin Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Goblin Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Goblin Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Special Goblin Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
As you storm into the square, all hyped up on adrenaline and victory, the three goblins at the gate seem to completely ignore you. However, the signing one with the torch, his (or her, hard to tell with goblins) head shoots up and looks directly at you all. It begins shouting and gesticulating at the others as it drops the torch and reaches for its weapons. Unknowing of what's happening, the voice from inside the fence cries out again in fear.
COMBAT HAS BEGUN
Aventail Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Bumbo Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Dol Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
Loth Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Mizzug Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Razkiv Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Goblin Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
So it'll be Loth and Mizzug first, then the goblins, then everyone else again. I'm trying to avoid splitting up the enemy's initiatives just so everyone can post more consistently instead of waiting for me to get back on and post.

Seeing the other two combatants trying to circle around, the goblin with the whip moves closer behind it's companions and tries to take Mizzug out of the fight.
Move action: move
Standard action:
Mizzug Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Mizzug begins to find this situation hilarious, but does not succumb to uncontrollable fits of laughter.
---THE DOG!!!---
IT MOVES UP BEHIND BUMBO AND.....
nuzzles him.
Dol Stormmaul
|
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Moving up onto the fountain, Dol summons a dart of acid and sends it at the bard. In a recurring theme, the acid splashes harmlessly about 10 feet away from the goblin.
Ranged Touch,Hatred,Bless: 1d20 + 0 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 0 + 1 + 1 = 5
Edit: LOL, since he wasn't even in range, I guess that result is appropriate...
