Honorbound Emissaries

Everyone but Tixylix manages to land a hit or two on the akata. The badly wounded creature lunges back at Ziamat and attempts to sink its teeth into the dragonkin.

Elwin and Ziamat both fail to connect with their target, as does Hesperrio, with his arc pistol. The skittermander's semi-automatic pistol do strike true, though, as do both shots from Tixylix and his drone. With this final barrage of shots, the akata falls to the turf, defeated.

You know that, in order for these creatures to serve well as ingredients for your dishes, you will need to butcher the meat. You also note that taking too long to get around to butchering the meat may make it more difficult to do so effectively (so you should try to get through the combat phase as quickly as possible!).

With the akata defeated, you once again refer to the maps provided to you for this challenge and see that another of the beasts you are to harvest for your dishes is located near the plateau on the north end of the course, while the third creature is in the pool at the base of the waterfall to the south. Where will you head next?

Hesperrio's fur crackles with static energy as the akata falls.

"Hurry? Can do!" he says. Moving with accelerated swiftness, he move toward the cover of a tree to the south and reloads his pistol.

Ziamat and Hesperrio rush south toward the pool, while Tixylix moves eastward to draw out the ingredient on the northern end of the course.

Elwin recalls that verimu are predatory avian creatures that prefer to ambush their prey before leaping out and slashing at them with their wicked claws.

He knows very little of uzorg, but does recall that they are essentially a herd animal from a distant planet in the Vast. He suspects that, like any herd animal, it would remain docile unless it is threatened or attacked, in which case it is likely to lash out with its hooves.

Tixylix, who has discovered the verimu before the creature could launch a successful ambush, fires on the predator along with his drone. Tixylix's shot goes wide, but the drone manages to find its target!

The uzorg, who does not yet realize that it is in danger, continues munching on the leafy turf of the jungle course.

"Well, this will be interesting!" Hesperrio says as he moves to get a line on the verimu at the same time as the dragonkin decides to tackle the uzorg. He aims his sniper rifle at the avian predator, not having time to use his scope and fires while pointing his pistols at the uzorg with two of his other hands.

Elwin - Up to this point, yes, the Verimu (red token) was the only hostile creature.
Now that Ziamat has attempted to tackle the uzorg, though, that may change...

Ziamat and Elwin both miss their shots on their respective targets. Hesperrio, though, manages to clip the verimu, despite the huge range at which he is shooting. Skittermander? More like SNIPER-mander!

The verimu rushes out from its hiding place and turns its talons on Tixylix.

Tixylix--You're thinking of a guarded step. Just a reminder, Guarded Step counts as a move action in Starfinder, so it would not allow you to do a full attack action. Thankfully in this case, it's your drone moving you away, so you're good!

Tixylix and his drone mount back away from the verimu and open fire at point blank range. Between the two of them, they eviscerate the alien creature!

Before Ziamat has a chance to continue his assault on the uzorg, the herd animal turns its powerful hooves against the dragonkin!

After the angry beast falls Elwin breathes a sigh of relief.

He then moves back towards the other beast, only to find himself just out of good range for all of his spells. He levels his pistol and takes a shot...

Again, both its strikes fail to connect with any significant impact, and Ziamat quickly strikes down the beast in return.

Quickly looking around after defeating the uzorg, Ziamat spots a metal crate partially submerged in the pool. After retrieving the containter, he finds that it contains an adamantine alloy survival knife, an autotarget rifle with 25 rounds, a brooch of shielding, a brown force field armor upgrade, and four mk 1 serums of healing.

As the fight ends, you collect the beasts you defeated and return them to the cooking area set up to the southeaast of a large tree in the middle of the forest arena. Based on Elwin's earlier realization, you know that preparing a meal from these creatures will require you to properly butcher them. As you are preparing your tools to begin, you receive a message stating that you will need to prepare your ingredients in a specific order: first the akata, then the verimu, and the uzorg last.

Please roll three Survival checks to butcher the meat from each creature in the order given. You may also attempt Life Science or Medicine checks to guide the butchering, though it would be at a higher DC.
After this preparatory phase, we will move into the rest of the cooking phase, which I will describe when we reach that point.

After butchering the ingredients, you are able to collect a good amount of meat for your meals!

Elwin's knowledge plays a critical role in guiding the butchery on the akata, though even with that, you are only able to obtain two decent cuts of meat--just enough to provide the judges with something to evaluate.

Between Ziamat's efforts and the assistance of the party, though, you are able to collect 4 cuts of meat each from the verimu and uzorg!

RULES FOR COOKING PHASE
Cooking each of the pieces of meat takes place over a short phase, during which each of the PCs can perform a single action (so there will be three phases). The options include cooking or sabotaging the other team. The options for actions you can take, along with the skill check required to succeed, are described below.
Prepare Meal (Dexterity, Survival, Profession [artist, cook, herbalist]): These skill checks represent cutting and preparing ingredients. The PCs must attempt a DC 18 Dexterity check or one of the listed skill checks with a successful DC 18 to help prepare the meal. Failing a check results in an inedible or disconcertingly mediocre dish. If multiple PCs partake in this action, we will use the highest result to determine the success of the meal preparation (i.e., aid rolls don't count).
Disable Cooking Range (Engineering): A PC who succeeds at a DC 22 Engineering check can disable the other team’s cooking range and force them to find another heat source, magical or otherwise, or prepare food without applying heat. A PC with the ability to wirelessly hack gains a +4 bonus to this check. If a PC succeeds at this check, they sabotage the enemy team.
Knife Toss (ranged attack roll): A PC can make a ranged attack roll to throw a kitchen utensil at an opposing team member. If a PC succeeds at this attack, they sabotage the enemy team.
Swap Ingredients (Sleight of Hand): A PC who succeeds at a DC 18 Sleight of Hand check can swap one of the other team’s ingredients for something unappealing such as R2E protein rations. If a PC succeeds at this check, they sabotage the enemy team.
