Once the group reaches the tomb, he asks "which way, straight thru or should we check out the side passages first?"

The statues are statues of Nethys. The howling sounds like jackals.

Shukara tilts her head as they enter the crypt. "Does anyone else hear that?" She looks around uneasily, but can't see anything unusual. Just more ruin.

"I guess we just...pick a direction? My mother always said that a maze could be solved if you kept your right hand on the wall. Not that we had mazes, out in the farmland, but still..."

Voting to head through the east door.

This grander tomb is closer to what Seeker had hoped to be exploring when he began his journey, though they also tended to attract looters more than the lesser tombs. Hopefully this one was lesser effected. ”I see footprints in the sand here. Humanoid. Perhaps related to those bandits that ambushed us, but that may also mean we have already dealt with the threat. Still, we should exercise caution, they could have been using this tomb as a base.” He signs, following Shukara’s suggestion that they start with the eastern passage.

East works for me. Probably stick close together since there might be some angry puppies around.

You are heading in the direction of the east door when Seeker catches a glimpse of 4 jackal skeletons that are sniffing around the area. They do not appear to have seen you as yet.

”Not the headquarters of the ambushers, then.” Seeker signs, indicating the skeleton dogs. He was beginning to wonder if all these strange creatures were at a risk of spilling over to the the main part of the city, or if something bound them to their respective tombs.


As Seeker signs this 4 skeletal jackals come into view.

Not sure what these creatures are and wanting to save her spells just in csae, Shukara elects to hold off on any attack of her own. Instead she lightly touches Seeker on the shoulder. "Gods be with you," she breathes, and indeed it seems the gods are.

"Everyone still okay with the east door?" Shukara is clutching her loaded crossbow, though fortunately she hasn't yet needed to use it.

The southern area of this large space contains a long stone table, two benches, and two wooden hutches. Just visible behind a partition wall to the north is a kitchen with tables, cabinets and a stove in the corner. Around a corner to the south stands a stone enclosure with a rounded top and a hatch set in the front.

Seeker delicately pulls aside the ancient drapery obscuring one of the cubicles, searching for clues to their purpose. Reflectories, perhaps.

Ogochukwu joins Seeker, methodically pulling curtains back one at a time and peering inside.

A small shrine occupies a raised dais in the north of this room. Two waist-high fonts stand on either side of the altar, and a small wooden cabinet is bolted against the eastern wall. Two rows of stone benches stand to the south of the dais. A fetid odour permeates the room. There are two figures dressed in flowing robes.

"Hey Ogochukwu, can I be of assistance?" as he goes over and helps his companion look at the statues.


Ogochukwu you recognise that there is a bas relief of Nethys rising out of the Maelstrom on the wall, although it has been defaced long ago. As you near the cabineyts the two figures turn, still heavily robed and you cannot see their faces. They say something in Ancient Osiriani which everyone except Shukara understands:

"Look what has happened here! Help us!"

Ogochukwu pauses, looking at the figures and then the defaced Nethys idol. "What happened? What can I do?"

Shukara frowns, confused. The language feels vaguely familiar, but she doesn't quite recognize it. Fortunately it seems Ogochukwu does as he immediately responds in the same language.

She leans a little closer to Seeker and quietly asks, "Do you know who they are? What's going on?"

"They ask for assistance. I expect they are more shadows of the past." Seeker signs to Shukara, referencing the spirits of the couple they had seen in the previous tomb. He sets a heavy hand on Ogochukwu's shoulder to discourage him from advancing.

"I see," Shukara says in response to Seeker's explanation. "Maybe they want help moving on? We haven't had good luck with spirits, but they can't all be bad."

It probably doesn't make sense for her to Sense Motive given that she can't understand what they're saying.


Ogochukwu and Cymric you both think that these creatures are being deliberately deceitful towards you. Their robes billow slightly and you see what appears to be rotting flesh beneath the robes.
