Oh nooooooo D:
I hope it was at least on a character with enough resources to come back!

![]() |

No. Larry and I were both playing in the second part of Peril and Plunder. Our characters were both level 4 and went down swinging (as did everyone else). I think Larry's character dying is a little more a bummer for him since his character had used a couple of different boons during the creation process.

![]() |

Ouch. It's no fun having a character go down. Top goal when playing a scenario.....survive. Even if you get no XP, fame and prestige by doing so, at least you still have a chance to do it in future scenarios.
My two experiences with PC death in PFS are losing a 7th-level pre-gen Seelah in Part 3 of Ruins of Bonekeep (5 out of 7 players lost characters [this was just my 3rd PFS scenario ever]) and back this spring at DieCon when my 5th level wizard rolled a 5, then a 3 on a re-roll on a Fort save vs. cloudkill in Corpses of Kalsgard. Luckily, I had enough fame and the group helped chip in to get him raised after it was over.

I just don't enjoy F2F play any more. It feels like I wasted 4 or more hours of my life that I can't get back.

![]() |

I'm sorry that you've fallen out of love with F2F gaming, GM. I imagine that being a VC does not necessarily help, either, since by all accounts it can be a lot of work if you actually want to do a decent job.
For me, I've come to discover that F2F gaming and PbP gaming fulfill me in different ways.
PbP gaming gives me an avenue to really get into the roleplay and get to know my characters way more than is generally possible at a live table. It's also so much easier to be outgoing and charismatic and eloquent when I have the time to choose my 'words'. Doing all of those things is much harder for me when I'm playing live.
F2F gaming gives me an avenue for being sociable in a relatively comfortable environment (I'm shy but I know most of our regular players at our lodge and my con experiences with strangers have been largely positive) and is a good excuse for me to get out of the house for something besides work, errands, and the occasional family visit or outing. When I'm in the right mood, I actually really enjoy a good 'beer-and-pretzels style' gaming session.

![]() |

I pretty much agree with Lady Ladile. Since I got into pbp, I like to play both face to face and pbp (occasionally also VTT games). I find that pbp is good for developing my PCs' personalities, especially at low levels. But I still like social gaming in person.
I do think some PFS scenarios work much better in pbp; I'm really glad I did Salvation of the Sages in pbp, and wish I'd done What Prestige is Worth in pbp as well because we just ran out of time when I played it at a recent con.

I lost a bard 2 to a TPK in a F2F Devil You Know Part 1, but in hindsight we were too inexperienced and underprepared. The GM even asked me if I wanted to run swim away, but no, I stayed …
Poor Carimac. I bet she felt terrible about the TPK.
I looove PbP for all the reasons Soddy and Boomy mentioned. But because of the relatively isolated spot I live in, it’s my main outlet for gaming.
As such, when I game F2F – or even over skype with a VTT – it’s a real treat.
That said, I find if there’s chemistry between F2F players (even if we’re strangers) I have a great time.

![]() |

Carimac is a great GM. Not her fault at all.
Chemistry's important. Enjoy it when you find it.

![]() |

Gervase, I rolled the readied attack to keep things moving.
Please do roll your own readied attacks in the future, everyone. I should have made that clear at the outset.

![]() |

I tend to do readied attacks in spoilers, that way the GM only has to open the spoiler if the condition triggers.

![]() |

Gervase, very cool the way you ghosted your icon to indicate your starting position and then displayed it in vivid full color to indicate your final position.
How do you do that?

![]() |

Thank-you, sir!
• Try right-clicking the icon
• Left-click ‘Format Options’
• Left-click Adjustments >
• Then set ‘Transparency’ by moving the Transparency ‘slide-button’ to the % transparency you want (from 0-100%). This is achieved by holding down the left mouse button over the Transparency ‘slide-button’ and dragging it left or right until you achieve the desired transparency.
If you don’t like the result, you can always return to the original format by:
• Right-clicking the icon
• Left-click ‘Reset image’
Easy ... when you know how ;)

![]() |

^Neato, I never thought about using the transparency option in that manner! Handy when you don't want to clutter a map by putting lines and arrows to indicate movement.

![]() |

I've used the same feature when my PC goes invisible :o

![]() |

Another great idea, Boom Sticks.
I saw a player that used a bunch of spell-effects images, some of them even animated. Wish I'd copied them for my own use. They were really cool.

![]() |

I don't know who created the original, but I found these useful spell gifs
Feel free to make a copy.

![]() |

Hey folks, I've been/am fairly busy taking care of some RL business yesterday and today + I start three nights in a row at work tomorrow night so if posts are slow, that's why. Please feel free to bot Soddy if needed. Thank you for your understanding!

![]() |

I am due to have minor surgery on Sunday. It's an outpatient procedure, but I will be sedated so there's a possibility I might not post on Sunday/Monday as I recover. Should be back to normal Monday evening though.

![]() |

Positive thoughts heading you way, Boomy.
You've gotta be fit in time to take on the Hammers Monday week ;)
⚽

![]() |

Hang in there Boomy and be sure to rest up!

![]() |

Well, the team has a handful of fiendish goblin prisoners and no way to interrogate them.
What do you want to do?

The Warmth and The Light
I love it when my influence ripples out from the games I GM :3

![]() |

Guys (but particularly Soddy + GM Lorenzo),
I am concerned Soddy and I are slowing the team down, and making it harder to reach Nixa in time.
Assuming 8 hours normal walking travel per day (by the CRB rules)
Soddy & Gervase walk at a speed proportional to our movement rate ie, over 8 hours:
20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20
Everyone else has the capability to walk over the same period (with no penalty) at an overland speed proportional to:
30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30
However, if Soddy and Gervase hustle every second hour (double movement rate {ie, jog} assuming they are unencumbered), their average speed is the same as their companions:
20 40 20 40 20 40 20 40
Pros: We get to Nixa faster!
Cons: According to the CRB, hustling inflicts no penalty for the first hour, 1 NL damage on the second, 2 NL damage on the third and 4 NL damage from the fourth.
This adds 7 NL damage to Gervase & Soddy after one day. However, NL damage heals at 1 hp/PC level/hour, which means after 4 hours of rest for Gervase (3 hours for Soddy), the NL damage is healed.
I would assume both would need 8 hours of rest to remove the fatigued condition. But are then ready to go again the next day.
TL/DR: I think Gervase and Soddy should hustle every second hour, so the entire team reaches Nixa faster.
The cons of being fatigued for PCs like Soddy & Gervase are outweighed by the benefit of getting the entire team to the target sooner.
What do you think?

![]() |

Cool, if that's what Gervase and Soddy want to do. Gervase can suggest that course of action in the Gameplay thread.

![]() |

Hey guys,
I'm still here. Sundays are a little bit harder for me to post on despite them usually being a day off work for me. After getting ready and going to church in the morning, I usually have F2F PFS or SFS events I'm in at my local lodge in the afternoon, whether it be playing or running. After doing that, going out to dinner with fellow lodge members and then getting home, I usually just want to chill.
Today was odd because I had a doctor's appointment to be at. However, I'm trying to get caught up on my PbP stuff and I'll have a post up ASAP.

![]() |

Bellisir, could you please make your attack/damage rolls? It helps the GM keep things moving.

![]() |

No problem. If the stated target conditions are met, I'll apply the results of the rolls of the readied action.

![]() |

Hey guys, I want to mention that we're beginning the process of looking for and buying a home, which will keep me a little busier than usual on my days off. So if my posting is slow at times, that'll likely be the reason why.

![]() |

Good luck in your search for a new bed to lay down roots, Soddy!
I am on vacation for the next month, people.
I fully intend to keep up with all my games, but I'm travelling for the next two days and attending a Mid-west con over the weekend.
During that time I am happy for Boom Sticks to run Gervase, and will accept any consequences good or bad to Gervase.

Ooh,it's GM Lady Ladile!
Hmm told me, back when I first picked that avatar, that it was a very fitting and amusing choice for a GM alias given the nature of katroomes :)

![]() |

Hey, guys. I am mainly back with you.
But still on vacation with my trusty masterwork tablet.

![]() |

FYI- I don't know if it was Paizo's website or my internet connection, or both- but I had problems accessing the site until Tuesday evening.

![]() |

I know the site was down/sluggish for a good 12+ hours on Sunday but otherwise it's been pretty stable.
*knocks on wood*

![]() |

Gervase, a typical potion of fly would be CL5, so the effects last 5 minutes.
How many companions you could transport would be a function of your STR vs encumbrance (PC weight + gear) limited only by your imagination about how to do it in one or more trips.
Folks, it seems we're inching closer to a decision point. Most of you have expressed your ideas and concerns. One PC could propose a plan, and the party can vote to accept it, or someone can offer an alternative plan.
Once a majority reaches consensus, we can get things moving again.

![]() |

I still vote we go over the cliff wall somewhere. I'm ok with either someone climbing up and lowering a rope to everyone else or if Gervase ferries the party up with her flying potion.
If we get a rope down, then that would effectively reduce the Climb DC to 5 for everyone else, wouldn't it?

![]() |

Hey guys,
I want to propose flying the Friendly Skies and dropping everyone behind gobbo lines to rescue Nixa, BUT I have taken children to a water park today and am too tired to try and sell this idea in Gameplay.
Heads up I might try to do this in my morning (12 hours or so away ;)

![]() |

Hi, folks!
I wanted to let you all know that next week, I'm going to be out of town for Asheville Scarefest on Oct 17-20th. Since the convention won't be at a hotel or a convention center per say and this will be my first time attending, I have no idea of what my internet access will be like there, if any. Even if I have access, my time's going to be pretty full with convention events.
For that time period, please feel free to bot my character. I'll still be able to post regularly until October 17th. I should be able to resume posting normally on Monday, October 21st.

![]() |

^Same deal as Bellisir; I'll most likely be out of pocket the 17th through the 20th and hopefully back to posting on the 21st. I'll try to get some basic bot instructions set up for Soddy before we go, though!

![]() |

I'm moving house (and country) on the 14th and 15th October, so my posting rate is likely to be reduced from now till the 16th.

![]() |

And the 15th of October is my 36th Wedding Anniversary, so I won't be posting on Tuesday myself.
Just check in as and when you can.
