Mao kneels beside the down man and shares a day's worth of rations. "Eat. You've done what you can. We'll see what we can do to help."

Oddly enough, though the module says he is heavily wounded, it does not say exactly how much. But with those two very fine healing rolls, I'm going to say he is fully healed.

The man gives a heavy sigh of relief and eats slowly, savoring every bite.

"Ah! that feels better. Now, how can I help? I can fight, of course, now that I've been healed and got some food under my belt. And I've told you what I know. So, mind if I tag a long and kick some gobbutt with you?"

Jack pats the man on the back.

"I wouldn't dream of denying a man a shot at revenge. That said, you *have* had the wind knocked out of your sails... so it might be best if you adopted a ranged focus, rather than melee; assuming you are skilled with a crossbow/bow, and have one, of course."

If he doesn't, that is all the more reason to check the armouries.

Aurus nods at Jack's magnanimity before addressing the soldier. "Yeah, you should definitely keep yer head down. I'd lend you my bow, but..." He gestures at the composite bow, tightly strung and made of dark lacquered hardwood. "She's tempermental, little tough to use. I don't even think Jack here could draw her full."

Goldur unslings his shortbow. The worst that could happen, he thinks, is that it gets turned against us-- and it would take more than one arrow to bring this dwarf down. "Here, young man, take mine. These hands aren't as steady as they used to be anyway."

Akre takes the bow and nods. "Every little bit helps. I look forward to turning the tables on them."

He waits on the pathfinders to lead the way.

There is not a consensus yet, but entering the armory was suggested.

I'll third the armory.

Aurus stands in wait at the bottom of the ladder up into the armory.

room: 1d2 ⇒ 1
You all line up and head up the western most ladder to the second floor and through an inconspicuous trap door into the upper level. Unfortunately for you as soon as the first one of you pops through the door, he or she is immediately set upon.

Now would be a good time to pick a marching order and the first person through the door needs to roll Perception (DC 20) and Knowledge Arcana (DC 13). Please verify your init rolls below when you post - no hurry.

init rolls:

Uldar init : 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Goldur init : 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Nemrok init : 1d20 ⇒ 2
Aurus init : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Jack init : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Mao init : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
enemy1 init: 1d20 ⇒ 1
enemy2 init: 1d20 ⇒ 14

If the lead person rolls a DC 20 perception and beats the init of the attackers, he or she could feasibly dive for cover and avoid the attacks, or move forward and make room for the others

I assumed Aurus would be going first, on account of the heavy armor.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Kn: Arcana: 1d20 ⇒ 5

Aurus opens the trap door and comes out quickly and quietly, hauling himself up the ladder and making sure that if there's trouble, he's going to be right in the middle of it.

Looks like I beat them on initiative too, so I will move into melee with both of them if possible, drawing the greatsword as I go.

Goldur would probably bring up the rear— he’s sturdy enough to take a hit if we get attacked from behind, but also doesn’t want to take up space for the melee folks. And yes, my Initiative is right.

It is now editable. This is a surprise round. Since only Aurus could see anything, he is the only one to react. (I believe that is how it should work).

I do not believe you get a 5' step as part of a surprise round so even 5' would count as a move, right? Which would mean that if an enemy is forced to move 5' they would also be denied an attack in the surprise round.

Aurus, now that the doc can be edited, please put your icon where you want it. Since you got the jump on them there will be no AoO and you can go anywhere you want in the room without fear of (immediate) reprisal.

Unsure where we came out, but I'm assuming we came from the F on the map? Intent is to put myself past the enemies, adjacent to both of them so they're in between me and the ladder.

Aurus moves decisively into the room, unsheathing his sword as he moves. If he's surprised by the soldiers in there, he doesn't show it, instead giving them a cocky grin. "Hullo, lads - last chance to stand down," the paladin says.

The two suits of armor, apparently empty, swing their metal fists at aurus. Luckily they are not wielding weapons.

One of them lands a lucky blow injuring the light-footed fellow. Aurus recognizes these as animated objects, probably enchanted by some over protective wizard. (you forgot to add the +9 to your roll before so you just made the DC. You can ask a question about them)

Oh! Right! I forgot that Aurus does know a lot about magic - it's the one skill I regularly put ranks in. Do they have any DR?

The grin slips from Aurus' face as he realizes he can't banter with animated objects. "Good news guys," he says as quietly as he can over the armor's creaking and clanging. "We didn't get caught by guards, per se..." He swings his adamantine greatsword at the blue target.

Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

As a matter of fact they do, in fact Aurus knows that animated objects made of metal, which an animated suit of armor certainly is, are harder than most animated objects and nearly impossible for a normal person to harm (i.e. hardness 10). Please include in your attack posts whether your weapon is adamantine as that will bypass hardness.

Jack is quite disappointed by the tiny cut his powerful arrow puts into the suit he aimed at, but Aurus swings his big honkin' ADAMANTINE sword at it and spins the helmet 45 degrees as well as cleaving the top of it right off like butter giving it a rather spooky appearance. Aurus definitely has the right tool for the job.

Good question. You go before Mao in the init order, but typically it's OK to allow players to auto-shift their ordering if it makes common sense to do so. In this case I think letting Mao go first would have been obviously to the parties advantage but I just didn't think of it. I don't even have the excuse that you posted in a different order. In post order, it was pinned before you struck. meh. As a compromise and to compensate and avoid confusion I'm going to have red auto-miss.

Aurus's back-swing catches red a glancing blow that throws it completely off-balance and it spends the next few seconds righting itself.

Nemrok puts another small dent into the armor's chin, giving it a pouty look, or what would have been a pouty look had the rest of the head been there.

Uldar keeps up the magically infused encouraging words while Mao quickly resstablishes his hold and Goldur helps to steady the armor for the next whallop from Aurus.

+1 Mighty [+2] Darkwood Composite Longbow, PBS, IC: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 11, for 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 13 damage.

Indeed, mere steel cannot and did not stand up to the mighty adamantine greatsword. This time a vertical stroke sheers one quarter of the armor from the other and saps the last of the enchantment from it. Mao is all that is left holding the two pieces together.

Jack turns his attention to the remaining annoyance and puts a hole in its thigh with one arrow and ricochets the other off the main torso.

Goldur swings his hammer in aid of Aurus again.

Aid another (Aurus, attack roll): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18

One more dent is added encouraging red to attack him.

target: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Indeed, though fairness is not something an animated suit of armor would consider, it does decide that the most recent attacker = most reasonable target and it tries to smack Goldur back.

to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

but alas I fear its makers would be disappointed in it as the thing fails to return the favor and no new dents are made.

Aurus pulls his sword from the downed blue enemy and swings at the dinged-up red enemy. "Don't worry Goldur, I'll get this tin can's attention!"

*Cough* Aurus, I think you forgot the 'aid another' from Goldur...?

And hopefully Mao will grapple it again and add more bonuses. But yes, good catch and why its nice to include those bonus names in your die rolls!
