[ooc]Here's a link to an equipment list:

Too be honest I'm not too worried about equipment- basic equipment is fine, although its likely you wouldn't be carrying around e.g. camping equipment all the time. Similarly you probably wouldn't be carrying around large firearms while in a city.

Hi Folks, sorry for the long absence had to figure out a number of things in RL. Due to a significant change in circumstances, I will need to limit my presence on the boards and that includes dropping this game. I apologize for the long delay in making contact to inform you of this decision and I apologize if my absence created any issues within Gameplay.

Sylvia was upstairs, but came down to meet the police. She led the police around the corner to where Jake and Barney had just subdued the cultist.
The police then asked Barney to lead them upstairs. My post was assuming that you did so, but I admit that was premature. I'll edit it slightly so there aren't any assumptions.
Henry is still upstairs.

No problems... just confused. I guess more time passed than Barney had assumed :-)

I've been playing Trail of Cthulhu instead of CofC lately, and I really appreciate the way it handles Investigation. It gets frustrating sometimes to put yourself in position for a clue, but the dice keep you from getting it. TofC assumes that if you put yourself in the right position, and you have the right skills you find the clue.
Also, I can't read the last clue. Writing is too small and when I zoom it up it gets digitized. Could you summarize?

Greetings from beyond the grave!
By now you know that all I've really left you is a whole heap of trouble. If I were still around to have an opinion on the matter, I would understand if you decided to walk away from it all. Hell, if I'm dead right now, that's a good indication I should have done the same. But you know me too well, and I know you too well. If you were the kind of person who always did the sensible thing we wouldn't be such good friends.
You have been there when I needed you in the past and I hope you will be again, even if it's too late to save me. I've been pulling threads all over the world and while most of them are still unraveling I think I'm onto something big. Carlton and Jonah can fill in more of the details for you - I've left some of my papers and notes with them, which should help you work out which hornet's nests you need to poke next.
I trust you to bring my killers to justice. Of course, I'm assuming I was murdered - it will be just plain embarrassing if I was run over by a trolley car! Follow my investigation to its bloody end, and seek out the truth. I'm not asking you to finish my book - none of you can write worth a damn.
Your friend, always.
Jackson

I feel like Barney is having a hard time fitting in... might be the dice rolls. Honest question... do you think he'll perform better in later parts of the adventure? If not maybe I could design a new character... Barney's brother Cary? who might bring some more "Streetsmart / Rogue like qualities to the game"?

Hi all, so we are pretty much at the end of chapter 1.
It seems like everyone is willing to continue which is encouraging.
However I think we need to change and address a few things. I think when we are in an investigation phase we need people to post maybe once every 2 days. I think I've been making the pace a bit fast and this has not allowed players to fully immerse themselves in the investigation process and this has also meant that some players have had to take the majority of the investigation side of things.
However, when we're in a combat phase it would be good if we could try to post once per day to keep the combat moving.
Secondly we have not heard from Henry for a while. I think I will keep his spot open for when/if he wants to return but will bench Henry for now meaning it will just be the three of you. As Call of Cthulu is not so much combat orientated this should not impact your enjoyment.
With regards to knowledge's/skills I realise that some of the skills need to be done there and then such as psychology. However, for some of the others such as history or archaeology don't forget your characters are not working in a vacuum. You can all discuss things you find with other NPCs and particularly in the larger cities in the campaign such as New York your characters will for the most part be able to access reference libraries or other institutions at least for some areas of expertise.
I know that Barney would like a few days to get his new character off the ground so we'll hold off on moving on with the story till after Xmas (I'm thinking probably the 27th Dec if that's Ok.)
Is there anything else you want to do in New York before we move on, I seem to remember you had an appointment to meet with Erica Carlyle at some point..
Finally - Assuming there is no more to learn in New York - where do you want to go to next - you have a lot of clues to places all over.
the world.
Happy Holidays to you all.
Dan.

Dude, you are doing very well pace wise for a game past its first month, better than average for the games I've been in.
Jake is very interested in meeting with Erica Carlyle, Jackson's notes say she has some books in her safe.
In fact, the whole Carlyle Expedition excited his imagination. He wants to follow the same trail they took...

So a quick explanation some books you find are powerful mythos tomes. Studying them can increase your Cthulu Mythos skill and in some cases help you to learn a spell. However this does take time (in most cases we are talking weeks, sometimes longer) and reading the books fully causes some permanent sanity loss.

Tossing this in discussion because it seems like something we reasonably would have discussed beforehand. What exactly is our cover story here, or are we going with the truth?
I would vote against outright honesty, given that this may very well be the center of operations for the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh. (Or at least a gathering point, given that the victims tended to frequent this Club.)
Maybe Colt as our 'leader' interested in learning more about Egyptian spiritualism? Sylvia as his doctor and Jake as a financial backer, (both with our own interest in the occult), isn't too far from the truth. It also raises certain parallels with the Carlyle expedition which could lead in interesting directions. Or is that unnecessarily complicated?

Posting to all my games: My grandmother died Sunday and I'm not in a great headspace for posting. Plus I have to travel home for the funeral, help with arrangements, that sort of thing.
I'll try to get a few posts in, particularly if my character needs to do something in order for the party to move forward, but probably won't manage much in the way of RP or helping with decision-making for the rest of the week. Please bot as needed. I hope to be back in form by next Monday.
