Verris grunts in annoyance as she is caught in webs again. She almost breaks free but the webs are thicker this time and snap back around her before she can free herself.

Sorry, no. You'd get a +1 to your save against poison if bitten and get a +1 AC bonus against the web attacks, but once they snag you you're on your own!

ALSO...that leaves Lexi at 6/11 bardic performance rounds remaining.

Verris stuggles against the webs but can't get out. Bixby, still free casts a spell as a small explosion hits one of the spiders.

The explosion hits it right in the head and seems to daze it for a moment. Davor moves up and skewers the already injured spider.

Lexi waits and sees that Adistan is able to free himself, so she slowly moves up to the nearest spider and attacks, but the webbing all over her makes it difficult for her to stab and the spider moves before she can connect.

Gurk slips out of his webbing and moves up near Davor. The two cornered spiders strike out at the nearest enemy while the one in the back shots another web at Gurk.

Verris gives up trying to break free from the webbing and just tries to remove the cause of the webbing, said webbing make her shot more difficult.

Verris gives up on trying to escape and instead help the others with the spiders. Even with the webs hindering her she lands a solid shot on the one near Adistan and Lexi. Bixby, turn his attention to the one long spider not currently being threatened by anyone else since the other one was dead. He hits it with his spell.

It manages to avoid being dazed by the spell however. Davor skewers the one nearest to him but doesn't kill it, instead wounding it pretty badly. Lexi manages to stab the one she is attacking but only barely damages it.

Adistan has no luck, the webbing still hampering his attacks and causing him to miss. Gurk, also gives up on trying to escape and instead launches an arrow at the one Bixby damaged, further injuring the large insect.

The further spider moves toward Gurk to attack while the others continue to focus on the nearest threat.

"Lethal??!!" she squeaks, echoing Bixby's declaration. Certain that the poison's killing her, Lexi starts to sway in place.

If the spider survived Adistan's latest attack, Lexi will stab at it again. Otherwise, she'll retreat and recover her discarded crossbow.

With the groups concerted effort on exterminating the spiders they manage to put an end to the threat and eventually free themselves from the sticky webbing. Quiet returns to halls around them.

Out of combat.

Checking the adjoining rooms you find little of interest beside the desiccated corpses of albino crickets the size of small dogs. You do not there is a hall leading south directly out of the room and one leading west out of the northwest room. There is also the hall you left unexplored earlier to the north that also headed west.

After freeing himself from the webbing, Gurk gathers his weapons and begins searching the hall to the south.

Bixby wipes any remaining webs off and runs over to Lexi. "It shouldn't be long--just close your eyes and accept your fate," he says.

When it becomes apparent she's not going to actually die, he says "Well--it must have been a different giant spider I was thinking of. I'm glad to be wrong this time."

His illusion nods emphatically.

Bixby puts his wand away and sets out after Gurk.

Verris follows behind, trying to keep an eye out for more spiders, paying more attention to the ceiling than she normally would.

Gurk leads the group forward down the southern hall. It opens into a small, but empty room with two more halls, one leading west and the other continuing to the south.

Well, I made the mistake of rolling the remaining saves Lexi had vs. the spider venom. It's true: No good deed goes unpunished.

Though she appreciates Bixby's concern, Lexi doesn't want to die just yet. She continually casts her new resistance spell on herself to help her weakling body fight off the spider venom.

"Lexi--be strong of mind and body! Ack! I feel weaker!"

"Lexi--be strong of mind and body! No! Weaker still!"

"Lexi--be strong of mind and body! Double Ack!! Oh no! Farewell Bixby! And Adistan...Veris,..Davor...Sure! I think I have enough life left to use the healing wand on you! Ta-da! And goodbye Gurk! Tell the Heidmarchs I fought to the very end...."

With that, Lexi sinks to the floor, curls up, and...doesn't die. But she looks awfully pale and is weak as a kitten. Eventually, she's convinced that the spider's venom isn't going to kill her so she gets up and tags along slowly at the back of the party.

Str now 4/10 (effective Str 5 with her mwk backpack). That puts her at carrying a heavy load: (Max Dex +1, Check Penalty –6, Speed 20 ft., Run x3).

Basically, Lexi's contributions are down to shooting her crossbow and shooting off her mouth (naturalist bardic performance).

You can but based off your rolls it doesn't help (Lexi at least). Beating the DC just provides a +4 bonus so Lexi's would have ran it's course. Davor still needs his remaining. Gurk needs his as well.

Even sapped of strength from the posion Gurk presses onward. The hall heading west goes for about twenty feet before opening into a larger room. A damp natural grotto opens up in the earth here, its stone ceiling rising forty feet above. Fat columns of brick support the northern end of the room, and the floor of the southern end has been carved into a low dais upon which stands the moldslick statue of a beautiful woman wielding a ranseur. The room is so large that Gurk can't even see across to the other side through the darkness.

Temmer frowns at Riverside's gibe. He's tempted to say something -- such a gibe is hardly seemly, but especially in mixed company -- but resolutely keeps his mouth closed. It's clear that this group is hurting badly, and he can only assume the poison has sapped his wits somewhat.

He wonders whether they should rest again, but bites his tongue as Gurk heads out to the west.

Lexi merely looks at Adistan for several seconds with her big, inscrutable eyes. Then she nods, removes her backpack and slips her silver gladius (with autographed sheath) inside it, lengthening its straps before handing it to the Taldan sailor.

"Thank you. I'll make sure Lady Heidmarch hears of your gallantry in this matter."

Lexi shows solidarity with her aasimar kin by scowling briefly at Davor for his attempted joke before doing a quick mental inventory of what items she still carries. She gives Gurk a quick tap with the healing wand before the poisoned goblin again valiantly takes point. Then, loaded crossbow in hand, she takes rearguard with Verris, picking some stray bits of webbing off her friend and Adistan*.

Lexi looks from Davor to Verris and back again.

Verris...a noble paladin? Geez...I always thought of her as our archer and back-up healer. But to be able to heal with just a touch...maybe she IS a paladin! Cripes--for someone so smart I can be awfully dumb sometimes.

She reconsiders Davor's joke in the light of this revelation, but still no giggle fit rises up to claim her. She shakes her head at Davor but also gives him a smile, letting him know she holds no grudge.

Once she gets into position to see into the great hall, she stops a moment to try to take it all in.

Verris grunts at Davor's words but then grins and nods at him to let him know that no harm was done. She follows behind the group in her usual position seemingly deep in thought.

Noble Paladin? Is that what I am? I guess Davor's right. Erastil has granted me a portion of his power so that I can fight for his ideals. Although noble paladin might be a bit much!

"I wouldn't wish to cast aspersions on the lady, who doesn't deserve to be a target of anyone's gibes," Temmer says. "I'm sure there are jokes that might be worth laughing at, but I prefer that they not be at the expense of others."

He frowns, hoping he's not coming down too hard on the half-orc, even as he tries to maintain discipline among this undisciplined crew.

As the others chat near the entrance of the room Gruk slinks off ahead quietly, keeping to the northern wall. He gets to one of the first pillars when he see's something just at the edge of his sight in the darkness ahead. He can barely make it out but from what he can see it looks like a man-sized, crab-like monstrosity.

Either because he is naive or busy worrying about everything that could go wrong, Bixby misses most of the exchange between the other group members. Instead, he looks off into the darkness after Gurk.

Someday, I'll see a knife in my ribs from that one--that's almost a certainty.
