Davor Riverside

"What the bloody hel is a crabshank?!"
Gurk the Goblin
"Longshank that be crab. He maybe taste good," Gurk states, as if obvious.
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
Verris grins at Gurk's reply to Davor then asks, "Do we wanna try ambush it? I could try to sneak up and attack it with my bow?"
Amelexis Dusk
"Wait a minute.... Crabs have claws that make a clicking sound. Could this crabshank be Clickylegs?"
Self-Imposed Wisdom Check: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
Verris pauses, then nods at what Lexi has said. "Could be. How do we bring it back if it is?"
Davor Riverside
|
"Bribe it with food, like all animals I suppose. Let me see if I got something that would motivate crustaceans..."
Survival, Guidance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9
Hmmm... wine, smelling salts, trail rations... dunno...
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
Davor's words making sense to her Verris tries to think of a way to use food to lure the animal back to the mite. She asks the half-orc if his god can help. Hoping for some guidance goodness Davor ;)
Not sure which of the two, or if both, are more appropriate Dak, so I rolled for both.
Survival (with guidance): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16
Handle Animal (with guidance): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 = 26
Adistan Temmer
Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Temmer shakes his head.
"Sorry, we were more likely to make the crabs our food than find something to feed them when I was on the deck," he says, his lack of usefulness hitting him keenly.
"If we don't have any food, we may just need to subdue the beast."
Gurk the Goblin
Gurk hesitates, then pulls out a jar. "Gurk got water beast goo. It be really tasty and be from water, but Gurk not really want to give it."
It is a jar of collected amoeba mass from the earlier fight.
GM Dak
Verris knows that crabs eat just about anything that has some meat on it on the ocean floor. She could assume a larger crab like creature may do the same, but she can't be sure for certain. In any case, her best guess would be something with raw meat.
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
A frown creases Verris' brow as she thinks about what the creature might like, then she turns to the others. "Are we even sure that this is Clickylegs?Bixby, could ye create an illusion of the crab thing for the mites? If it is, I might have an idea on how to get it back to them."
Bixby Copperpot
|
I seem to be drawing a blank on bringing a Clickylegs to the mites--is that something we're trying to do?
Bixby assures Verris that he can make illusions out of anything, so long as there was a need.
Adistan Temmer
We are, in exchange for information.
Amelexis Dusk
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Curiosity, as usual, wins out over caution, and Lexi attempts to creep forward into the large chamber to get a closer look at the 'crabshank,' the better to identify its kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.

Amelexis Dusk Knowledge (nature) Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
That stealth roll! Haha I feel like the dice really embrace Lexi as the slightly clumsy person you portray her as! xD
GM Dak
While the others talk Lexi tries to sneak toward the creature to get a better look, her darkvision making it so she can get close without alerting, or at least that is what she though until she trips on a stone near the pillar and smacks into it with a loud thud.
1d20 ⇒ 10
As she is righting herself from the trip she sees the creature who is now well aware of her presence, clicking it's claws as its beady eyes glare at Lexi.

Gurk moves forward a little and pulls out his knives. "Gurk go stab crabshank, now?" he asks.
Move and end turn
Adistan Temmer
Temmer moves in, taking up a protective stance in front of Lady Dusk, keeping his eyes in the direction of the noise.
Move; then ready action to Hunt Prey study target if it gets into sight.
GM Dak
The creature crawls 10 ft up the nearby pillar onto the ceiling and then starts crawling across the ceiling toward the group. Adistan finally sees it at the edge of the darkness, lurking toward him on the ceiling.
To note it is going to be out of reach of melee that do not have a reach weapon.

Bixby draws his wand again.
"Ah ha! Sneaking up on us from above--we must increase our watch!"
Pointing it at the creature, he fires of some snapping flames.
snapdragon fireworks: 1d4 ⇒ 2 DC 11 or Dazzled
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
While raising her bow defensively, Verris looks at the others and comments, "If this is Clickylegs, the mites will be pretty pissed off if we kill it. Maybe we should just run back towards the mites and get the creature to follow us. If it's not their pet, we can always fight it there."
Amelexis Dusk
Combat Notes: hp 19/21, -6 Str, bardic performance (naturalist), BP 5/11 remaining.
"Yeah--retreat!" Lexi yips as she scrambles for the relative safety of the previous chamber.
"That's a cave fisher! They can shoot a sticky filament at prey, reel them in, and then tear them apart with their claws! Vermin...good climbers...I think I mentioned the claws already...."
Started naturalist BP in case anyone really wants to fight...or in case someone gets snagged and dragged.

Temmer lets the others fall back first, then follows them, hoping the cave fisher will follow.
Gurk the Goblin
"Gurk not be stabbing Clacky?" Gurk asks as he moves with the confusing longshanks.
GM Dak
Bixby pulls out his wand and blasts the creature with his spell.
Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
It manages to turn away just as the explosion hits avoiding being dazzled. Everyone starts backing out of the room while the creature continues to advance on the group crawling along the ceiling.

Davor continues to back out of the room with the others.
Bixby Copperpot

Bixby, seeing the others falling back, abruptly changes his illusion into a mite. Hoping it would placate the creature, he moves it in front of his companions.

Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
Verris warily watches the creature, looking for any suddenly charges or attacks from the creatures as she moves back.
Total defence and moves with others back towards where we met the mites.
Gurk the Goblin
Gurk continues to head back down the tunnel, unsure of the point of all of this.
Amelexis Dusk
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Lexi stays close to Adistan, occasionally making a weird clicking noise with her mouth, along with an occasional whistle.
"Good Clickylegs! Who's a good giant cave fisher? You are! Yes you are! Right this way...."
Will stop her bardic performance for now (though it lingers for 2 rounds).
Davor Riverside
|
@GM Dak: I think the whole party moves together with double moves until we get back to the mites; perhaps this would be best handled in Out of Combat mode? if it turns out the mites were not after this cave fisher, then oops I guess... we can deal with it then?
Amelexis Dusk
"I think he likes us!" Lexi comments with an amused giggle that ends abruptly when Clickylegs suddenly morphs into Sprintylegs. "Whoa! Slow! Stop! Sit!" she commands the cave fisher, ending with a plaintive, Play dead?" as she scurries for cover behind Verris.
Gurk the Goblin
Gurk begins to position himself for when the creature comes down. "So Gurk stab now?"
Davor Riverside
|
Ok
Bixby Copperpot
|
Bixby has his illusion of the mite hold up its hands and try to go first.
"Perhaps it will distract it--follow the mite!"
Send the mite first to perhaps take its AoO, then we can all move through. Or maybe it won't attack it at all. DC 19 Will once interacted with.
GM Dak
Gurk moves ahead while the others wait to see what the thing does. Bixby sends his illusion mite ahead which the thing completely ignores. Instead it steps up on the ceiling and shots a long filament toward Gurk.
RT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
The extremely sticky filament wraps around Gurk, binding him tightly.

Gurk struggles vainly on the ground encased in webs. "Now Gurk will stab."

Amelexis Dusk
Combat Notes: hp 19/21; -6 Str; active performance (naturalist [cave fisher]; last round of Lingering Performance).
"Oh dear! I warned about its filament!" Lexi gently chides Gurk. "Sorry King Zunga…."
The skinny aasimar moves forward and fires her crossbow at Clickylegs. As per usual, if it's a combat action the girl's taking, she can't manage it.
Amelexis Dusk light crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 for piercing damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3 (19-20)
Davor Riverside

<"Bolvag kigiji!"> grunts Davor, swiftly drawing a javelin from its holster and launching it at the annoying crabshank!
Javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
piercing dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Verris "Eagle Eye" Gerdin
Seeing Gurk get attacked by the creature and unable to escape, Verris decides that the wellbeing of her companion is more important than bringing the creature back to the mites and attacks with her longbow.
Attack(Longbow): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 = 12
Damage(Longbow): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
However, her reluctance to go back on her word affects her concentration and her shot is poorly aimed as a result.
Bixby Copperpot
|
So sorry--busy weekend.
Bixby tries to subdue the monster with more sparks.
"It's ignoring the mite! We probably need to put it down or take it back to them unconscious."
snapdragon fireworks: 1d4 ⇒ 1 DC 11 or Dazzled
GM Dak
No worries, I know how it goes. Always try to make a note before botting though just in case someone missed it was their turn.
Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Bixby blasts the cave fisher with another charge from his wand though the damage is minuscule. This time though, busy with Gurk, it's not fast enough to look away as the fireworks explode and cause it some discomfort.
Lexi takes a shot with her crossbow but the angle is weird and she misses the creature on the ceiling. Verris doesn't have any better luck missing as well. Davor toss a javelin that sticks into the creatures back causing it some pain.
Adistan moves up and attacks the filament holding Gurk. He slices through the sticky substance so that Gurk is no longer attached to the cave fisher. With the fillament loose from the cave fisher Gurk manages to get free.
The thing turns its attention to Adistan, this time shooting the filament at him instead.
RT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
It hits once again as Adistan is now bound up in the filament, the creature eyeing the man hungrily.
