Dondun looks into the room. "I believe that is what is known as a Urannag. Haven't seen one myself before but adamantine and good weapons should hurt them. Little more than a construct." He points out some areas. "See it traps you in the cage and those spiked barbs slowly bleed you out." He points to a bunch of mechanisms. "But someone can actual injure them by disabling their gears."

Post 4000 you Wankhordes! Also, that’s a cool affect/ability to disable for damage. Sadly, hard to do, but super neat.
Vanyan, who probably knew all that, confirms what Dondun said. He looks at the Produced Flame fire in his hand and realizes that it’s useless here, again. He sighs.

Closing the door to the construct Aishe backtracks to the room in between the cells. The short hall leading to this chamber is blocked at the east end by a sliding gate with a good lock, much like the jail cells, but this gate isn’t locked. A heavy canvas curtain hangs at the south end.
Several torture implements dangle from hooks anchored into the ceiling of this room. In the room’s southwest and southeast corners, a pair of iron maidens are splayed open, revealing gore-covered spikes. An alcove between the iron maidens holds a wicker cage containing dozens of brown rats. A sheet of bloodstained canvas covers the room’s only exit.
The room is obviously a torture chamber used to extract information from stubborn prisoners. The iron maidens and the cage of hungry rats are both used for this purpose.
Dondun shivers at the thought that this was to be his fate.
Vanyan Kaleseder
Vanyan will look into the torture room, but not go in.

I feel the need to release the rats. While their part in torturing people sickens me, they are natural creatures that are just doing what they do when ravenously hungry. You others get out of the room, and I'll throw a weapon to free them from a safe distance.
Atium will drop some food in an off corner. (a couple days rations?).
hen okay, he'll use one of the extra weapons found as a thrown weapon and smash the wicker cage. Closing the curtain so he isn't in sight of the freed rats and thus a target.
Atium looks very upset about this room. Torture at this level is only done by a person with such a malicious heart......
Aishe Danior
Aishe will help Atium with the rats, in whatever way he can, for he agrees. They should not be left to rot in a cage.
He'll then move back to the construct. "Ready?" he inquires of the group. He doesn't go in first, but as soon as folks begin to move, he'll charge in with his thieves tools at the ready.

Atium keeps his raging going, just a little while longer.
He turns and walks to Dondun.
How do you do those things you do? I don't like you, and I don't trust you. Are you a world breaker? Do you do the magics that ripped a canyon into Golorian and caused the demons to spill forth? The Winter Drake has lost many whelps and fledglings in their roosts to worldbreakers.
@Gm. Want to give me a diplomacy check? Or do you want me to give him an intimidation check? OOC, his diplomacy might be needed, because I don't currently know whether to smash him with my hammer and rid the world of the destructive warlock or run screaming from the worldbreaker. At 10th level and raging, I'm leaning towards him being in fearful (I.E shaken) but still able to destroy.
Anyone who wants a sense motive, can tell Atium is close to killing him- or at least trying.
Aishe Danior
Aishe ducks as the magic missiles go over his head and slam into the 'creature'. He looks back at the wizard uncomfortably but somewhat pleased - when Atium streams past him and confronts the him.
"Hey there Atium. He was helping. No need to kill a man for helping us."
Tessenarin
Tessenarin looks at Atium.
"He has a spell book, so I assume he is a wizard. He went through a lot of training, and probably cost, to learn what he knows. Some people are born with magic, some find it from a god (he looks at Vinas), some get it from..... somewhere (He looks at Vanyan) and others study to learn it. It is just the way of things."
Atium of Varg
still waiting for others, but felt it fun to reply to Tess.
Yes, Tess - Yes. You prove my point exactly. He reads books. He gets power from books. That means he's dangerous. Books are dangerous, and cause those that read them for magic to do dangerous things. Yes Tess. You said all the right things. He reads books that destroy. It is just the way of things.

Vanyan moves up to put his hand on Atium's shoulder. He's not exactly against killing the mage, but thinks it's uncouth.
"Listen here, *Wank*, that's one thing the Pathfinders taught me is that you have to play nicely with the people you're with and mission you're on," Vanyan shakes his head, remembering some doozies. And some floozies. But mostly he probably thinks how many people regretted having Vanyan in the party. Maybe they wanted him dead, probably a lot.
"So yeah. Let's get this done, and then we can go our own ways. I'm just saying that there are best practices, and usually those entail not killing those that are trying to help, you know?"
Tessenarin
"Books are not dangerous, Atium. They are important. People cannot remember everything themselves. We need books to help record what happened. Whole civilizations have vanished, and all we have left are their books to understand them or figure out what might have happened. You should not fear books."
GM Tyranius
|
Dondun stammers, holding his spellbook out. "I learned it as he said." Dondun nods towards Tessenarin. He shoves his book in his pack and smiles revealing his rows of rotten teeth before brushing back his greasy wisps of hair. "We are all friends here." Defensively and in mock fashion he tosses his hands up in the air in a wave of surrender.
Atium of Varg
Atium, with the helm on, makes penetrating and intimidating stares at Dondun.
Chains and manacles really can't hold Atium back. In his state right now, he could break them with ease. Neither can cages or prison bars. The combat 30 seconds ago just proved now unrestrained this barbarian can be with physical bondage.
But Aishe's soft hand on one shoulder and Vanyan's (wimpy) hand on his other shoulder combined with Tess's words have a magical effect.
.....Keeping the Rovagug type beast in check.
Atium's rage ends. The fatigue sets in.
Tess, you do confuse me. You agree with me and then don't? I don't understand because your words are always true. I do not have a problem with history books. Yes- people should always be remembered, that is why Skalds and bards exist. Books that remember are good too.
I have been taught that books like Dondun holds and just put in his pack are very dangerous. They made the Wound in the World. Is it not true, and tell me straight, that if I took my hammer and smashed that book he has in his backpack -- will it not explode? Normal books will not explode- right? History books will not explode- right?
Focusing on Dondun. speaking only to him.
Do not fear. I accept your surrender Dondun. I will not destroy your book no matter what answer my friends give. I will not destroy it, because I do not know how to. I only know how to destroy those that read from such books.
@ Gm and all others. Atium is scared of the wizard. I'll put a permanent shaken condition if he's out of sight or not watched by friends/ I interact with him. Does Shaken sound good to mimic his apprehension of having a magic user in the party?

"Tess, books with words aren't evil. But there are books which contain more than simply words. I'm not quite as.... unnerved as Atium, but there exist evil books in Golarian."
Vinas adds, "Friend is a title earned. Now, let's go."
Forward or back?
Vinas uth Antimanes
"There are evil swords."
Vanyan Kaleseder
Vanyan seems to understand where Atium is coming from and tries to ease the man’s fears.
”Don’t you worry about evil books, *Wank*. There are easy ways to protect yourself from them. Like you need to be able to read, so you’re likely safe from the effects of evil books, you know? What you can’t read can’t hurt you. But also, there is a simple chant that you can use to protect from evil books. And the best thing about the protective chant is that you don’t even need to get the words right. It’s something like ‘klappa burrata nicktoe’. Yeah, that’s it. Just say that and ‘bam!’ you’re protected.”
Vanyan waits for people to move forward, past the cage, and see what remains down the hallway.
Moved on map, but actually trailing behind others.

Tessenarin looks at Vanyan with an almost incredulous look and opens his mouth and begins to speak, then stop himself. He shakes his head and just puts another mark in his mental tally. He also hopes, if there are any evil books about, that Atium doesn't find it, since Vanyan just killed him.
"Vinas, how do you know the swords are evil. Perhaps they are just drawn that way?"
Vinas uth Antimanes
"Nice pun Tess. But remember I can literally see evil..."
Despite the clever double entendre, Vinas doesn't really laugh.
"Atium, Yanyan jests. But know this. You have us, and what is a book compared to the man who reads it?"
Vinas leads in front of Vanyan.
Aishe Danior
Aishe listens to the banter, though he doesn't engage further. The idea that an object can be evil is not new to him - he finds unholy symbols to be evil - but to be so worked up about it is odd. But to each their own he figures, and he waits for the resolve.
Then he'll approach the next doors, and do his usual trap check and unlock. As usual, he doesn't open the doors, merely prepares them, before dropping back and readying his crossbow.
