2nd level dwarven cave druid!
For the record, I too am GMing this particular scenario during Outpost II (in the higher tier).
(Though as part of a longer string of scenarios for the same group of players (they started with the Siege of the Diamond City special, and will be continuing on afterwards))
It will be my first time through it (as a player and as a GM).

Looks like we are only missing one so I will send a PM tomorrow. This scenario begins in Nerosyan a city in Mendev. Please introduce yourselves into that local lodge in the game play thread.
We officially begin on Monday and I am excited the wait is finally over. (I hate these long recruitment times! :). I do have a long day on Monday, and may not post until really late.

Let me give you a little more information about the rumors and evidence.
Since you arrive in the evening you have some time to investigate. This is called the evening phase, and each day also has a morning, and an afternoon phase. You have a number of places you can go each phase (as you have seen) and can make checks each time to discover new clues. The higher the success(es), the more clues available. However a single PC can only get a single clue from a given location at a time. This is why I combined Kanshasa with Konris: his 'presence' allowed the investigator's high success to get multiple clues. The advantage to splitting up is that you can cover more areas. The advantage to sticking together, is you can get more information from that area.
Day 3 Phase evening
Day 4 Phase morning, phase afternoon, phase evening
D5, mP, aP, eP etc. etc. etc.
I presume you have time to meet in between each phase to share information and decide who is doing what on the next phase. You do not even have to spend every phase investigating. Now that you have seen the first phase in action, you (collectively) can decide who should go where for the next phase, and the next etc.
Also you should decide where you want to spend the night. You have discovered two rooms are available at the inn, or there is the tent city (again I am assuming: Lautebury sent you well equipped for the mundane stuff).
I hope that makes sense, but it is 1 am and I think I have been asleep since at least midnight! PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS. I cannae see if there is a befuddled look on your face since we are not sitting at the same table. :)

![]() |

I think I get it! But if you could give us another rundown of all the locations we can visit that would be awesome. Obviously the beer gardens, and I'm guessing the inn can be hit up again in a new phase, but like the mayor's house. Is that a location we can visit multiple times, or just once?

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

First! That you for carrying the RP on in my absence. Y'all are awesome. :)
Second!
Hey all, some technical difficulties on my end. The Sherriff will take some more RP & I will come back to that in a bit.
In the meantime:
1. There are no investigations at night, but where would you like to stay (inn or tent city)?
2. You can investigate places again (though there are diminishing returns). Where if would you like to go for the next phase (morning)?
3. Places include: none, word on the street, shop, beer garden & tent city (plenty of games going on if you want to try non-skill investigation), &... (one more can't recall atm)
4. I will get to specific questions (eg about Elrik) when I get back.

Sorry, in the middle of travel and didn't expect something quite so confusing/different. Will figure this out sooner or later.
Also mentioned in gameplay but I am not showing up in the updates so I have no idea what the next step or decision I need to make is.

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Galvanex, Kolris, Kinshasa: I need to know where you are going. If you have no preference, please aid someone.
Galvanex, Kolris, Dumpy: please also give me an end of day roll.
Elris, my apologies. "Kolris" is probably my dyslexic brain seeing the K in Kayne while I am trying to read Elris (KElris) which then get confused with Kronis (which I see my brain translated in an earlier post as Konris). I say 'my brain' but really I just need more sleep, I am making updates way too late in my day!
Elris: I need to know what you want to do for the morning phase.
EDIT: Belay that.

I started the slides for this table. I am calling it, Silver. I have added the link to my profile and again at the campaign info tab. In an effort to help clarify I set the second slide up for the phases & where we are.
If anyone has the time or inclination the first slide will be for rumors as they are found. I hope it helps :)

![]() |

To be honest not sure what we are supposed to be doing at this point. We have a list of rumors and a sheriff who could care less.
Talking to the same people at a few locations doesn't seem likely to do anything or seem reasonable from my characters point of view. I assume it is some type of "system" that may not translate the best to PbP but I don't see and end goal when the person who makes the decision doesn't seem to care?
I just don't get the actions to take at the moment since we are only supposed to go to a few locations and make skill checks? Or are we supposed to be acting on rumors? Gathering information/rumors till they are hanged doesn't seem like the goal.

![]() |

I think the goal is to suss out what actually happened before they are hanged. I don't think it's a clear-cut "Succeed at X checks to win" type scenario, but I could be wrong. I think we have to take the rumors, figure out which are true, and use them to piece together the actual events in order to exonerate (or implicate) the suspects, in which casek the "roll to gather info here at X time of day" is probably simply to parse out how much information we can learn at a time. But again, I could be wrong and maybe there's a more specific mechanic in play.

![]() |

I just think tracking down the bald-patch man, forcing the shopkeep to tell the truth (since a large man doesnt seem to meet the outline of the pathfinders), etc seem better than gathering information but idk if that is another phase or what.

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

You are all mostly correct, though said best here " I think we have to take the rumors, figure out which are true, and use them to piece together the actual events in order to exonerate (or implicate) the suspects" by Kolris.
For example:
I just think tracking down the bald-patch man, forcing the shopkeep to tell the truth (since a large man doesnt seem to meet the outline of the pathfinders), etc seem better than gathering information but idk if that is another phase or what.
(My emphasis) seeing as the Pathfinders are two short dwarves and a halfling.
You will get the chance to make a case for/against the accused as the citizens decide their outcome on night 6 (with execution happening at dawn on day 7). That probably wasn't clear so I will simply state it for your ease. The mechanic of the phase is for three things. I was avoiding the specifics to stay out of the meta-game, but feel it is more helpful in this case.
1. Individual sites have a limit to the available rumors, and there is a limited time frame.
2. The town is leary of strangers, poking and prodding into their business is being tracked and reaching certain points triggers difference in attitudes and other things.
3. There is a [spoiler] tracking as well, and again, at certain points things get triggered.
Not all the evidence is rumors of course. and the Sheriff is one of those places, as is the scene of the crime that Lydia is hopefully heading toward. It sounds like Galvanax would like to go there as well. (though he is mistaken about the Sarkorian, his guess to its location is good :).
Again, feel free to ask questions when you have them. I promise to provide more mechanical information for you.

Did I mention I'd just been re-familiarizing myself last night with the tale of the "Powder Keg of Justice"?

![]() |

I don't know what that is but it sounds like fun.

![]() |

![]() |

With Outpost and all the other goings on I am a bit fuzzy on where we have an have not been or what the options are. I would like to go, if we have not, into the woods where these two people were seen dancing the the devil's circle. Is that possible?

![]() |

Ah, The Gazebo I'm familiar with. Still my favorite Knights of the Dinner Table episode. I actually didn't even know there was a comic until like 5 years after I saw the animated shorts.

Understandable. I think all but the last four rumors have been added to the slide, but there are in the thread.
As written the options are: Fairgrounds, Otto's Farm, General Store, Mayor's Residence, Beer Garden, Word on the Street. 'Word on the Street' includes general information for players who are thinking outside the box. Of the above, only the General store was a low return on investment, though you can of course visit any of the places again if you wish.
We are at the end of the first full day in town with two full days remaining before the execution. Morning is the next available phase. I hope that helps.

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

I am not sure about you all but the person at this keyboard isn't seeing how this puzzle fits together, at least not yet. Hopefully Kinshasa does.
I think some folks are parsing it together. I don't want to spoil it for them, but I can explain a mechanic that might help.

We are still in rounds.
I understood that, if this was in response to me - am I not able to make a Perception check as a standard action or something like that?

Not directed particularly at anyone. I just wanted to know if the party was going to let the man die and get convicted of murder or if the party was happy to just get convicted of assault ;).
The spoiler I listed for Lydia is because unlike most of the party, you are still hidden and can remain so long enough to see that the rest of the building is empty. In this case the Perception is passive (though hiding was a move action back when you made it).

![]() |

If you could provide a reminder of what other evidence we've collected but not yet presented, it would help me contribute.
Also, this is one blessedly anomalous mob, just suddenly deciding to listen like a rational jury; I wish more than anything you could do that in real life.
This is pretty close to the heart, for me; the Human Hivemind is my "gold standard of Evil" - and I HATE how Web 2.0 just juices it up.

Boon?
Elris Kayne: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Galvanix: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Kinshasa: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Kronis Umbrelor: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Lydia Stillborne: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Dumpy: 1d20 ⇒ 16
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Well. That is cool :)

Chronicles mostly done, just waiting to see if this one will get away.... >:)

![]() |

I forgot how annoying invisible enemies are at this level and why I should buy all the basics on every character like smelling salts and chalk...powdered. Lol.

![]() |

I was wondering the same thing. It seemed like we were near the end, since Curaigh mentioned getting our chronicle sheets prepared.

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Hello and my apologies.
My folks have no internet. The hospital had internet, but no computer. I have been at one or the other for the last week. (My Dad had surgery & it has gone pretty much to plan. He will be home soon and no further bad news expected thank you.:)
If there are questions that need answering, please ask them of me. This is a fairly complicated scenario in that it can be managed without combat and has that rumor tracking mechanic. It does offer a lot story, & I hope I was able to provide that for you.
I will be starting another scenario shortly and you are all invited to sit at the table. Which one and what characters will be determined after I know who is coming. Mention it here if you are interested.
I have not forgotten chronicles, nor have I finished them. :(

![]() |

Elris would be interested in another Silver Crusade/Worldwound or Land of Linnorm Kings related.

![]() |

This fella and my kensai magus are my highest-level PFS characters at level 2. :P
But if you have another low-level adventure, I'd love to join in. One more XP and Kronis is level 3! However I am tempted to get Cabe (my kensai) simply because he's more fun to play. Kronis is a little stodgy (but you can't argue with those Knowledge checks!)
I hope your dad has a speedy recovery! No rush on the chronicle sheets as far as I'm concerned. I was worried about having it so I could play him at PaizoCon but I had to cancel the trip anyway. :(
Thanks again for running this!

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

I too had to cancel the trip to PaizoCon on account of the hospital trip. Dad just got home, almost a week later than expected :o
Holy Crap!
I did it!
I will have to trust you to accurately add any Day Job rolls. If someone was on Slow Track and I missed it, please make the updates (and let me know.) If you are not Silver Crusade, and I forgot to cross the Silver Crusade boon off your chronicle, please do so.

![]() |

I'm not too worried about my day job roll, Kronis doesn't need much for equipment. Sheet looks good as far as I can tell. Thanks again for running this!
