Just to be sure, I didn't use my Reroll there as others killed off the swarm, right?
I figure it would be good to clarify now before assuming later :)

GM bigboom |

Now that the battle is over, I'm going to throw up a whole bunch of unformatted information about swarms. But will spoiler it in case anyone doesn't want to see it...
Tiny creatures (usually vermin) that acts as a single creature.
A swarm has a single pool of Hit Points, a single initiative
modifier, and a single EAC and KAC. A swarm attempts saving
throws as a single creature. A single swarm usually occupies
a square (if it is made up of nonflying creatures) or a cube (if it
is made up of flying creatures) 10 feet on a side, but its reach
is 0 feet. A swarm can move through cracks or holes large
enough for its component creatures to fit through.
In order to attack, a swarm moves into an opponent’s
space, which provokes an attack of opportunity. Spellcasting
or concentrating on spells within the area of a swarm requires
a successful caster level check (DC = 20 + spell level). Using
skills that involve patience and concentration, such as
Computers, within the area of a swarm requires a successful
DC 20 Will saving throw.
Traits: Swarm defenses, swarm immunities, distraction,
swarm attack.
The creature deals automatic damage to any creature whose
space it occupies at the end of its turn, with no attack roll
needed. Swarm attacks are not subject to a miss chance for
concealment or cover.
Format: Melee swarm attack (1d6+2 P).
Guidelines: To determine the amount of damage a creature
of CR 6 or lower deals with swarm attack, use the value listed
in the CR 6 Three Attacks entry on its appropriate array table
(see pages 129–132), lowering the additional damage from
that CR to match its actual CR. For all other creatures, use the
Four Attacks entry for its CR in the corresponding array table.
Swarms take damage from weapons differently depending on
how the weapon targets them.
A swarm is immune to attacks and effects that targets
a single creature (including single-target spells), with the
exception of mind-affecting effects if the swarm has an
Intelligence score and an ability similar to the formian’s hive
mind (see page 50).
A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from
effects that affect all targets in an area, such as grenades,
blast and explode weapons, and many evocation spells.
A swarm takes normal damage from an attack or effect
that affects multiple targets (including lines and fully
automatic mode attacks). For the purpose of automatic
fire, the swarm counts as five targets. For example, if an
automatic attack is made using 12 rounds of ammunition,
it can attack a maximum of six targets, so it can damage a
swarm normally. However, if two other targets are closer to
the attacker than the swarm, they must be attacked first,
leaving only four attacks to target the swarm, so it takes
no damage.
Format: Defensive Abilities swarm defenses.
Swarms are immune to the following effects, unless the effect
specifies it works against swarms.
- Bleeding, critical hits, flat-footed, off-target, pinned, prone,
staggered, and stunned.
- Combat maneuvers—swarms can’t be affected by and
can’t perform combat maneuvers, unless the swarm’s
description says otherwise.
- Flanking—swarms are unflankable.
- Dying—a swarm reduced to 0 Hit Points breaks up and
ceases to exist as a swarm, though individual members of
it might survive.
Format: Immunities swarm immunities.

Well done, Bigboom, in making me care for a throw away NPC. *grumbles good naturedly*
Does anyone want the Merciful Fusion Seal? I imagine that Remerix is going to be the best candidate for that. He will also take an anti-venom and an adaptive serum if no one claims one. He really doesn't need a ranged weapon. Sadly not proficient in Heavy Weapons, though he does have a +5 ranged modifier.

I took the liberty of adding a slide and putting up the loot info'
Slide 12
Remove if a problem (sorry if so)
Others should take stuff that is left, nice things there

That's totally fine. I moved the slide up a bit towards the front

Thanks!
First time seeing or doing a vehicle chase too!
(only did one little thing w. vehicles in one scenario, but just driving around)

![]() |

For some reason, this is what comes into my head regarding the "different music tastes"

![]() |

Thanks!
Fine by me.
That was my intent, to delay my actions and do that if Vossi makes it to the hill[
And sorry about thinking we were moving to round 2.

No worries. Very few of us are familiar with vehicle chase rules. And I'm trying to adapt them to PBP so it gets doubly confusing.
Rest assured, I won't skip through a round without giving everyone their chance to act (unless that was called for in the scenario). If needed, I'd bot everyone's actions before moving on to the next round, so it's all good!

I do love starfinder, but I feel like they missed the ball on starship/vehicle stuff.
Sometimes I think the design process went like Robin Williams' theory on the design process for golf.
Let's put heavy weapons on vehicles, those are awesome.
Yeah awesome, then lets make only one class proficient in them.
YES! Classic... Then let's make that the single class most likely to tank their Dex.
I LOVE it! Then lets make everything operate at 4 or 5 range increments of pretty much everyone else's weapons.
Perfect!
Put it in the book!

![]() |

I understand what they were trying to do. I mean, fighting in starships and on vehicles is what players would expect to do. If there wasn't a mechanic for this, in a home game I'm sure we would be saying "Hey, we've got this vehicles, we need to overtake them!"
My largest gripe is that Dexterity was already really useful in Pathfinder, but if there's a potential for Vehicle / Starfinder combat to come up almost everyone really wants at least a +2 to +3 bonus.

GM bigboom |

Yep, I agree with the both of you. Took me about a week of reading and re-reading the chase rules until I got to the point where I think I understood how they're supposed to work...
But maybe if it recurs often enough, it'll eventually become second nature. However, due to the use of initiative in both the piloting and the combat phases within each round, I can see how chases may get really awkward in PBP and end up dragging out.
I like the concept but execution is a bit rough. Nevertheless... Dinosaur chase!!!!

As a heads up, I'll be at PAX East for the next four days and likely won't be able to keep up with posting every day. I think I'll be able to get in a post tomorrow and on Saturday, but will otherwise be back in regular action on Monday. Please feel free to bot me (Lynn will move to firing her borrowed static arc pistol in non-lethal mode if she's being botted).

re. AoOs: from page 278 CRB:
Vehicles provoke attacks of opportunity while driving, and when you are in a vehicle that’s driving, you similarly provoke attacks of opportunity if you take any actions that would normally do so (including making ranged attacks) unless the vehicle provides total cover.
So this means that vs. reach etc., both the vehicle and the driver (depending on which of the 4 squares of the vehicle the driver is in, right?) provokes, then.
(Though I would really not look to Pathfinder for answers).
No problem AT ALL for Sparks getting an AoO
Just trying to understand for myself

I'm very sorry, everyone; I had a real life minor crisis for the past 2 weeks which created lots of stress and sleepless nights, and this is at a time when I'm already requiring lots of extra sleep because I'm 4 months pregnant. The worst of it is over, so I should be back to normal posting in a few days, and at least posting some sooner than that. (I need to catch up on my GMed games first.)

No worries! Totally understandable that you've been away! I hope things are calmer now!!
And congratulations with the little one on the way!!

Oh that's interesting. I didn't see the vehicle AOO rules. The rules there do leave it in grey area and I can see how it would be subject to different interpretation by different GMs.
My interpretation is (unless I see some other text that would make me think otherwise) moving out of a threatened square while driving or riding in a vehicle would provoke because it is still movement, albeit not on your own legs.
Happy to entertain other interpretations if any convincing examples can be raised!

I agree with you.
At first read I thought only the vehicle provoked.
But moving is a thing that provokes so I think it does.
The spot you occupy is important...
I hope you are better Twitch... be safe

I wanted to give a head's up that I'm going through some unexpected significant life changes right now through the end of April. I'll try to keep on top of things, but if I'm ever quiet for an extended period of time please feel free to bot me. I figure there isn't too much I'll be holding up for now anyway :)

GM bigboom |

No worries! I have a pretty good idea of Remerix's standard combat tactics.
Hope all is well.

Alrighty, let's review success conditions!!
-----------------------------------------------
Primary Success Condition: If the PCs defeat Ipsoth and rescue the hostages, they succeed at their mission and each earn 1 Fame and 1 Reputation for any factions associated with their currently slotted faction boon.
Success!!!
-----------------------------------------------
Secondary Success Condition: If the PCs complete two of the following, they earn 1 additional Fame and 1 Reputation for any factions associated with their currently slotted Faction boon: succeed in all 3 checks to identify the instinct redirection transducer’s composition, end the chase before reaching the gala perimeter, properly remove the transducer from Vossi while Vossi was still alive, or befriend Vossi (whether or not Vossi helped the PCs retake the gala site).
You've succeeded in completing all three! In addition, because you've impressed not only Radaszam but conservationists all across Castrovel and the Pact Worlds you've brought glory to the Acquisitives faction and get 1 additional reputation point with the Acquisitives.

Congratulations again on a successful mission and I hope you all had a good time!!

Thanks GM. I always have fun in your games. I had high hopes for this scenario, and it definitely delivered.
Chronicle looks good to me.
obligatory non-boon-winning roll: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Vossi's boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 7
THANKS a lot you all, GM & players, for a GREAT game!
Chronicle sheet is fine.
Was a LOT of fun! (and a little bit scary)

Paizo's Disappointment Generator (Boon Roll): 1d20 ⇒ 18
Thanks for the run Bigboom! It feels like it was over way too soon. And thanks for everyone else for fun RP and play. Looking forward to seeing you all in other games.
Lynn's chronicle looks great.

GM bigboom |

Wonderful game as always, Bigboom, even if I was not as present as I expect of myself. Thank you!
edit: [dice=boon roll]1d20
It's all good! Hope the real life matters have now calmed down and the games you're GMing are all caught up!!!

It feels like it was over way too soon.
Yes, this one does go somewhat quick.
The gala's social portion doesn't really lead to anything substantial other than a chance to RP a bit. Or in this case, lead Remerix into heartbreak at the death of a NPC... kekeke <evil grin>.
The rest of the scenario are action sequences/combat encounters in pretty quick succession...
But the whole dinosaur chase and riding is pretty cool. And seeing a little skittermander getting floated up, up and away makes for a fun scene!

Boon Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Thanks GM Bigboom. Sorry for vanishing at the end there, but I overall had a blast!

Remerix, I sooooo wanted to say at some point:
'Suddenly, all of you hear a big BOOM!. Looking up, to your horror, you realize that the gasses trapped within the balloon must have been flammable! The web balloon exploded and the floating, flaming skittermander is now a 'sploded, flaming AND falling skittermander!'
Everyone, I'll mark this inactive in a day or so and if anyone won a boon, I'll PM you for your email address!
Thanks again everyone for playing!
