Actually, I just realized that Burst of My Insight is personal only. Apologies for not knowing this about the spell.

Good catch. Make the most of it and do your best?

Or come up with some whacky plan and great role-playing for a bonus on your attempt.

I can use it on myself, or someone else could try and use it on themself with UMD.

VC Australia - WA

So, we are two-thirds of the way through the speed challenge. Things are looking pretty good but not locked in for the Cliffside and the Ruins. The Ravine and the Maze definitely need some success from our final two contestants.

I had intended to put more Grimpfkin flavour into the story but today has been busier than expected.

Also, I will be heading out in the morning to fly to Seattle to help out with Emerald City Comic Con. I have a business meeting up there Monday, then fly home Tuesday afternoon/evening. I should be able to keep posting, though a little more slowly during the weekend, and have asked if one of the backup GMs would keep an eye on our game in case something happens to delay me.

[occ]Edit: EM±GM has agreed to be back up during this time.[/ooc]

VC Australia - WA

Three more successes: Ravine, Cliffside, and Maze.

Now it is up to Khana to bring it home and determine how many successes the team achieves during this challenge. (No Pressure)

I am actively interested in the Might Challenge, since it's still available, yes. I wager it's either another obstacle course, or a fight (in which case Volsung could contribute more to it than I could!).

Am checking in, from time to time.

But thus far, Numbat seems to still be keeping up with things =)

Thank you EM±GM

----------------------------------------------

I am going to allow time for a few more voices to weigh in. Regardless, I probably won't post much before tomorrow evening or Monday morning. The convention has terrible reception where our demo area is so I can't even hotspot to connect during breaks. :-( There is a slim possibility I may be able to start the next encounter in the morning before we leave.

And now I have just read Covadil's response, including

Quote:
How are we tracking for time against the schedule? Happy to try and squeeze everything in if we won't miss out on other stuff later.

Sunday 24th is when we move into the next major portion. So we have basically a week to complete one or more encounters before we reach the Heart of the Blight.

VC Australia - WA

So I have one of the two next encounters ready to start. I will try to have the other one done shortly.

It really comes down to combat or more skill checks (possibly followed by combat).

obviously Makon is hoping for combat...a true glass cannon... he thrives on life and death..

(side note: this is the first truly optimized combat character I've created in quite some time and I'm starting to get why people love playing these type of guys...it's just not hard fleshing out Makon's personality...it seems a very organic character in that his actions are ruled by his whims but his moral compass forbade s him from doing anything too un-seemly...I really have enjoyed playing this character!)

VC Australia - WA

Sounds like overall there is interest in completing the test of might which is the straight up combat. If completed quickly there may still be time for another encounter. I will start this in gameplay. If there is an outcry in this discussion thread then I can retcon to the other (skill check) encounter.

Going to wait until Makon does his bloodrager thing. I'll keep an eye on the game and try to act ASAP after that.

This is the second time I have provided multiple sections of a skill check encounter as one presentation. This is an experiment meant to help with time management but I am very curious to hear the player's perspective.

Does it make it easier?
Does it destroy the suspense or damage the story?

What are your thoughts on this approach?

Was success at finding the trail supposed to lead us to the discovery of the acidic goo after which we'd find the Kitsune?

At the least, it might have been nice to make finding the tracks a precondition for coming across the goo and finding the survivor.

Not that I'm narratively traumatized by the approach that you have taken here, but there might be the proverbial happy medium between doing everything exactly in sequence and everything at once.

VC Australia - WA

No, if success was a condition then I would have taken it piece by piece. The number of successes is what counts.

VC Australia - WA

I had a computer issue yesterday afternoon and now I am sick and trying to stay functional. I should have a post up later today.

We move on to the next big thing on Sunday. As a group, we have met the criteria for the various success levels. This is the last encounter without repeating for this section. If there was time, you could hunt more survivors and face a different foe. You really have covered most of it.

VC Australia - WA

I should have said, the map's up so rearrange yourselves if you wish.

So Kohaku has lead us to these ruins in our search for the rest of his party? I moved my icon back a couple of squares since I assume Volsung is still bringing up/guarding the rear.

I'll be out doing some face-to-face play tonight and tomorrow afternoon, so I may be a little slow in responding here.

By the way, I have not heard anything from GM Numbat yet, so do not know what is happening.

However, at least I can continue GMing for you until she comes back. If I hear anything, I will let you know!

A big thank you to GM Silbeg for stepping in when I was swiftly felled by a truly obnoxious and debilitating bug. I am in recovery and trying to catch up on life. After discussion on the best handover, GM Silbeg has volunteered to continue through this encounter. We should be moving on in a couple of days and I will be back with you then.

Hang in there, you can defeat these nasties and take out the pod. I know you can!

@ Volsung - I missed that you had rolled for Deja Vu being effective and I made the roll when I rolled for the mirror image and went by that.

I'm afraid one layer of retcon is all I can handle now so I am going to stick with the rolls I made. Next time I will try to look for yours.

Not a problem, I wasn't sure if I should roll for Psychic Inception or let you roll. I should have explicitly asked you which approach you preferred. I gather that from now, I'll roll the 50/50 for Psychic Inception, correct?

VC Australia - WA

That works for me. It seems more likely that in F2F the GM would roll but with PbP rolling for each other to keep the game moving makes sense. I guess rolling behind a GM screen would also make sense though as you don't necessarily know if it works.

Let's stick with you roll. If we need to we can adjust later.

Covadil wrote:

So, when does the new save come into effect. Before or after Covadil enters the affected zone of the portal. If it happens before, he'll move and then ready an attack against the first thing to approach within 5' of him. If it happens after he crosses the line, then he'll have used up more than his standard movement and won't have a standard action left to attack.

I decided to take this to discussion as it is not an entirely simple issue.

I have seen several interpretations of the negative energy area. Some are actually using it as a dark area that completely conceals the enemy. Others have it be a visible haze of some sort. My interpretation was that the rift is visible in the centre but the negative energy effect is not.

The Corpse Call does allow a victim to make another will save if their path takes them into a dangerous area "such as through a fire or off a cliff". I reasoned that as the danger is not visible that the will save would occur as soon as the effect was experienced.

With that reasoning, you would have stepped into then out of the area (unless you want to suck it up and stay to bash a zombie or two ;-) ).

I try to be a reasonable GM and know I have much still to learn, so if there are any arguments to change my current thinking I am open to exploring them as long as we don't slow down the game too much.

VC Australia - WA

I am travelling tomorrow for a medical appointment. I should be able to keep up with the game, though I have asked for one of the back-up GMs to keep an eye on things in case I don't have access. GM Silbeg will be there for you if needed.

Thanks GM. Completely comfortable with that interpretation and yes given Covadil didn't have a full action left to attack with, if he can move 25' (he has 20' base movement) into the affected area, make his save and then continue his movement a further 5 feet to end up back outside the area that would be great.
