Nope, totally cool with me.
Sometimes, I leave the bad guys bleeding out or even unconscious and stabilized, for the reasons you mentioned, or to build a little tension (like does this thing have fast healing?) or to give frustrated murder-hobos something to swing at.
And... for the 'Schrödinger's cat' reference, the 2019 Nobel Prize for Quantum GMing goes to Lady Ladile! Yay! Woot-woot!

Totally fine with me. Especially with PbP, where we would spend another day rolling to kill a downed creature. Once the fight is effectively over I'd rather wrapping this up than dragging it out.

^Welcome back Adyr and thank you for bearing with my botting of you here and over in League :)

Friends, I'll be busy through Sunday volunteering at Dragonflight in Bellevue, Washington.
I'll try to post, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time.
If you haven't heard from me in 24 hours, just bot me. I trust your judgment.

Playing some F2F Starfinder with my local lodge today; updates later this evening :)

Cool. Will be at home for the next several days. Looking forward to some much needed rest and relaxation... and recuperation.
Luurg

Sounds like a good Sunday on both accounts. Cleanup and recooping for the week here after a social week with friends.
| GM Ladile |
Hey folks, I've not been sleeping well and work has been busy (I did well to get in what few player posts I needed to do last night). I'll try and get an update for you either later this evening or tomorrow.
McKieg

sleeeeeepppppp....
| GM Ladile |
"Don't forget to wash your hands, Luurg." McKieg coughs. "Hygiene, brother, is next to godliness."
Ugh...I have a coworker who I am positive does not wash their hands after using the restroom and it's the grossest thing to think about.
McKieg

Then he takes a handful of popcorn and offers the bag to you. Yummy.
Luurg

Luurg gets big bonuses vs poison and disease. Soon to be immune to them. The man has been developing his own personal resistances for some time now!
| GM Ladile |
She, actually - which just goes to show that it's not only men who can be grossly unhygienic.
I often keep a jar of peanut butter in my drawer at work, because it makes for quick energy if I need a bite of something but don't really have the time to actually sit and eat. I'd had the jar sitting out because I'd eaten a bit earlier and the same coworker asked if they could get a scoop.
Me: "I eat directly out of that, you know."
Coworker: "Oh, I don't care!"
Me: "Uh...well, if you don't care then have at it, I guess."
Another time, a different, younger coworker (male) was curious about my energy drink and asked if I'd pour him a little into a cup.
Me: "Ooh, I've actually already drank like, half of it."
Coworker: *pauses, thinks for a moment* "Well I mean, you don't have herpes or anything do you?"
Me: ......
Me: "No, <Coworker>, I don't have herpes."
Me: *pours some of my drink into a cup for him*

It's a good thing we can't actually see the thin veneer of fecal matter that covers virtually everything we touch (and eat).

You can actually see it if you go to San Francisco he he.
| GM Ladile |
"I like cats."
Hey, me too! :D
Haven't been able to have any since I got married though, since our apartment doesn't allow pets :(
| GM Ladile |
I am irritated by my mind and body's sudden inability to function well on less than 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night. It didn't used to be this way, dangit! I thought adults started needing less sleep as they aged, not more :(
Also, I think I'm going to have to start officially making posting optional on my first night off after working a stretch. Despite best efforts and good intentions, I rarely seem to get much/any posting done on that first night off. I should have expected this, as I watched my mother work night shift for years and she would usually spend her first night off just catching up on sleep.
*cough*
Thank you for bearing with me. Updates to commence momentarily.
McKieg
|
It's tough, Ladile. Some folks seem better suited to it than others. I pulled a lot of night shift work in my 20s. Swore I'd never do it again.
Adyr Al'Abissi
|
No worries Ladile! I preferred nights to days! More fun and less heat!
| GM Ladile |
Heh, apologies to McKieg & Adyr - Luurg basically did what was needed to get a result. That said, those checks were not in vain as I'll apply them to your understanding of the pools once you guys take care of your current problem :)
| GM Ladile |
(Not sure if Wadi's spell damage was applied to the creature.)
It was. I'll also say that McKieg's axe strike didn't do any healing but the damage tracker 'resetting' for Red is one of the functions of the simulacrum splitting into two; I'm just at a bit of a loss on how to represent this function with an in-game description, if that makes sense.
McKieg
|
Yeah, that's what I was trying to convey with McKieg's thoughts about what he was witnessing.
The simulacrum suffered unspecified/unapplied damage from the spell, then no damage and a split from the axe, then full damage from the alchemist's fire. Or so it seems.
| GM Ladile |
Okay, gotcha! If it happens again, I'll try and make things a little clearer somehow.
Wadi Ahk'kolon
|
I would indicate on the tracker something like this:
Quicksilver Simulacrum Red*
Quicksilver Simulacrum Blue*
* - Split
And I have no problem with resetting the HP here, as I believe the Max HP drops when a creature splits but we (as PCs) have no idea what damage they took now.
| GM Ladile |
Congrats, you were functionally fighting a black pudding! Since that last split produced two 'puddings' that would've had a maximum health of 7 HP each I figured I'd go ahead and call the fight there.

The Shadow Over Innsmouth is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories. From the beginning I have had visions of Deep Ones running all over the place. It is obvious now that the designer of this scenario has read Lovecraft also!
I am ready to destroy the MOTHER HYDRA!

I think my personal favorite would have to be The Rats in the Walls.

Before I make a bunch of assumptions and roll for various attacks- Since I am grappled with the creature and the tentacles are no longer in the inky cloud- does it get concealment when I attack back and/or attempt to escape?
| GM Ladile |
I'll let you attempt sunder attacks or called shots vs. the tentacles - and this includes everyone, not just you. Apparently you otherwise can't actually attack a creature unless you attack into the space it physically occupies, according to this and this.
I'll not count total concealment vs. the tentacles but it will still apply if you wish to attack the body of the octopus itself.
| GM Ladile |
Thank goodness for HeroLab, which makes it much easier for me to track the changes in stats to this octopus due to grapple and concealment.
Back during the fight in the archives, it was commented in the Hangouts chat that this module seems to have a lot of mean fights. And to be honest - yes, yes it does. That's not why I selected it (combats are not the highlight of playing or GMing for me, especially at higher levels - I just thought the story and atmosphere were cool) but I suppose it's good practice for running more challenging/complex encounters?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't mind me, this is the just the plight of the sorcerer.
Sheela's built for charming her way through social situations and we've come up against mindless, undead or animals. Not great to flex my spellcasting against.
Luckily I made Sheela a summoner as a backup measure, but when your #1 and #2 options are off the table it's times like these I wish I were an arcanist and could use Quick Study.

Going out of town a few days, please bot Tiffany if required! Summon stuff, use her nets, wildshape if it makes sense to do so, throw out expletives when she gets angry, and otherwise be pompous and stubborn and entitled at every chance you get. Easy enough, right? ;)
| GM Ladile |
Thanks for the notice Red; safe travels and I will mostly do my best to not kill Tiff while you're away ;)
| GM Ladile |
Hey guys, apologies if I wasn't clear in my description earlier. It's hard to describe and I've not been able to find a good picture to represent what's happening here but there is basically a very thin sheet of water that runs from the base of the pool, across the floor, up the walls, across the ceiling, and flows down into the pool again. This sheet of water forms a 'door' at the entrance to this building but once you step through the sheet of water, the room itself is open-air.
So...no one is currently swimming or needs to swim except the octopus. You can move about in this building just fine except for the floating bubble of water that the octopus is in and the pool of water just underneath the bubble. With that in mind, I'm going to swap Tiffany's shark out for a more appropriate summon.
McKieg
|
Could the shark appear inside the bubble?
Adyr Al'Abissi
|
Does the octopus need to maintain the grapple before it constricts? Adyr am covered with grease which might make it more difficult for the octopus to maintain its grasp.
| GM Ladile |
Yes, thank you for the reminder; I will address it when I get a chance to post at length.
Luurg
|
Ok sounds good to me on the call shot stuff. I've never used that before so am not familiar with the mechanics.
| GM Ladile |
Apologies for all the grueling outdoor shenanigans! Next module I run, I'll make sure to pick something with a more urban setting ;)
Sheela Kolphan
|
No biggie. Sheela was built with a very intentional role (intrigue and enchantments, with summons as a fallback). It's not the world's fault for not accommodating her needs.
The introduction to the module didn't mention assaulting a creepy cool abandoned lab in the middle of nowhere, so I didn't have a reason to gear up for outside travel and blasting.
