Unfortunate...I was looking forward to bringing back part of the shard. Ah, well.
"I fear I lack the skill to be a worm wrangler. Andy, I recall that bards can calm creatures with their music. Can you use that ability to assist Eowyn?"

CLW wand vs. Eowyn: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Bards do have the ability to try and Fascinate creatures, but I do not think the creature would be effected in it's current state."
Fascinate(Su): At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and capable of paying attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creatures affected. The Distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. For every three levels a bard has attained beyond 1st, he can target one additional creature with this ability. Each creature within range receives a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the bard’s level + the bard’s Cha modifier) to negate the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes the performance for as long as the bard continues to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability. Fascinate relies on audible and visual components in order to function.

”No idea what this being is. But can’t we just kill it? It seems to be mindless!“

![]() |

Andy, I'll allow the fascination to give a bonus to the checks to calm it down.
Eowyn approaches the worm carefully, gesturing to it that the team has come with peaceful intention (well, most of them). The worm is too consumed by the pain to pay attention. That is until Andy starts singing a captivating and soothing tune which just manages to catch it and it notices Eowyn. It seems to understand that you wish to help and stop struggling, at least for now.
Ok, you've managed to calm it down. Now to widen the tunnel. For this, I will allow aids using different skills from that list earlier (strength, knowledge(engineering), profession(miner) or CMB), i.e. if the lead is using one skill, you may aid with another.

![]() |

Tofang is glad that his companions were able to clam the being.

In case it wasn't clear, any attempt or aid for the second check will have to go close to the worm, e.g. to inspect the tunnel, and be singed by the heat radiating from it. Unless you have abilities that allow you to do it at a distance.

Tofang moves closer and endures the heat.

Eowyn continues to speak soothingly to the worm while the others see about freeing it.

![]() |

@Jivan, 4000lb?!?! Woah... *looks up carrying capacity table... which only goes up to 1400lb...* :) Ok, after some calculation, that translate to 37 strength, or +13 str bonus. And since you can work from a distance, you take no damage so can keep trying again and again, i.e. take 20, i.e. a check of 33!
Tofang and Andy moves forward, studying the structure to determine where are weak points that the party can work from. But suddenly, the tunnel around the worm starts shaking and they quickly halt, fearing an earthquake. However, when they look back, they realise that it is Jivan, who with immense concentration, starts tearing massive chunks of rock from the walls of the tunnel around the worm by simple brute force. Perspiration starts pouring down his face as he strains to widen the tunnel. Eventually he collapses in exhaustion but the job is done. The worm has remained calm all this while, understanding at some level what is happening. As soon as it is wide enough, it lifts itself away from the shard and almost immediately, dive to one side and tunnels away!
Success! Won't deal damage to Tofang or Andy then with that magnificent feat!

"Huzzah! Well done Jivan! Oh...are you ok?" Andy runs over to check on him. "Eowyn, are you still hurt?"

Andy, only needed 1 round of fascination for this encounter. But want to be sure you counted correctly from the 4 combat encounters? We still have some way to go. Oh well, in that case...
Time: 1:41h after arrival
After resting briefy for Eowyn to recover from her burns and for Jivan to catch his breath, the Pathfinders continue their journey down the tunnel, towards the centre of the asteroid. Go ahead and backpost your healing.
After a few minutes, Eowyn hears a faint scuffling behind you. Someone is following you! You immediately swivel around, your weapons raised and ready to strike! What you see though are a pair of very unlikely companions. One is male gnome, and hanging from his neck is a holy symbol of Sivanah. But the other is a red-skinned feminine humanoid of a race that none of you have never encountered before. Hanging from her belt is a device that looks similar to Tofang's gun. However, neither have their weapons drawn. Moreover, they look to be in a very disheveled state. In fact, when you study them more closely, they look like they have not eaten for many days and the heat of the Sea of the Lights must have left them patched as well. As soon as you point your weapons at them, they panic and raise their hands.
"No, please, we mean no harm! Please, help!" the gnome yells out. The red-skinned alien similar yells out in fear, but you don't understand a word she's saying. (I've checked. None of you have the language.)

Jivan gratefully accepts aid standing. The Vudran exhibits a slightly disquieting combination of fatigue and manic behavior, and a faint haze of the silvery threads he uses to move items clings to him. "That is a technique I only recently learned, and I had not previously used it to its fullest extent."
At the encounter:
The Vudran refrains from attacking, but holds a copper piece between two fingers. "How is it that you come to be here? Are you part of our expedition?"

![]() |

Phew, looks like good timing for me to be gone. Lumo definitely would have ran in and gotten himself burned.
The nagaji looks at the unlikely pair. "uh... you're an odd sight. And we just rescued a giant space worm. What do you need help with?"

"How is it that you come to be here? Are you part of our expedition?"
"Expedition? What expedition?" the gnome looks at Jivan in confusion. He sees the Vudran holding up the copper piece threateningly and looks quite confused. "I'm Pagbean Halmap. From Riddleport. A portal opened up right in the great hall of my church. A few of us were curious and went through, thinking it was from Sivanah. But it closed shortly after we went through then, we were attacked by elementals. I am the only survivor." Tears start to run down his face before he wipes them away.
The red-skinned woman (?) starts talking, but the words make no sense to you. When she eventually stops, Pagbean, "Sorry, I did not completely get that. She's speaking a language vaguely like Azlanti, but yet completely different. I only get a few words here and there. Anyway, her name is Lohad and from what I've managed to figure out, she is from somewhere called Akiton but I've never heard of it before. (Heh heh.) She's asking for help to return home. As am I."
The nagaji looks at the unlikely pair. "uh... you're an odd sight. And we just rescued a giant space worm. What do you need help with?"
"I met her in these tunnels shortly after ... after I loss my companions. It seems she went through a similar portal as I did. We have been travelling together since, hoping to find a way back. Please, how did you get here? And do you know how we can go back?"
"You two look famished! Here, have something to eat and drink."
After making sure that Jivan wasn't going to attack them with his copper coin, the two of them approach Andy cautiously then start gulping down the water, before gobbling up the food. "Oh thank you, thank you! I haven't eaten or drank anything in days."
Tofang Siyaah wrote:”Be assured that we mean no harm! Luck was not on your side but maybe it is on ours and you can join us?“With the kind words and offer of food and drinks, the two look quite trusting now. "Where are you heading now?" He takes a good look at you. "You don't look like you are lost here. But you speak the Taldane Common fluently, so you can't be residents of this god-forsaken place. Where are you from?"

Jivan relaxes and makes the copper piece disappear. "This is the comet called Aucturn's Tear. We are Pathfinders, here exploring via the gates you came through. "This is the comet called Aucturn's Tear. We are Pathfinders, here exploring via the gates you came through. If you stay with us, I am sure that the Mistress of Scrolls will be able to return you. I should add, though, that as explorers we sometimes choose dangerous paths."
"We're on a comet?" the gnome exclaims with his mouth stuffed full of food, "How are you getting back?" He stops here and ponders briefly. "Are you here seeking the ... the Wind? From time to time, when things are quiet, a cooling breeze will come from deeper down there." He points towards the direction you were heading. "And sometimes, I hear words spoken in Auran. It is faint and broken, but it seems to be calling for help, for freedom. Is that who you're looking for?"
Just in case you've forgotten, the Pathfinder Society actively used magic to direct one of the portals to one of the Lodge, and is keeping it open, so that you guys have an active escape route back should things go south. Without that, the portal would have closed shortly after opening.
Also, the surface temperatures have returned to some normality as the asteroid has started revolving again. Temperatures at either areas are still hot and cold, but bearable without magic.
"Jivan is right. And we were allowed powerful magic potions that keep us safe from the elements. Without them, you may have trouble in this place. Try to keep up." He nods, business-like, and looks ahead towards the destination.
"I see." He gulps in nervousness. He turns to explain to the red-skinned alien woman in what you presume is Azlanti. She takes a while to understand him, and she looks worried as well and mutters a few words. The gnome then replies, "We are worried about the dangers you would encounter. Whoever is trapping this Wind would likely not let it go easily. But we appreciate your offer, and I think that is our best bet of getting out of here alive."
You would have noticed that I'm slowing down the pace because as a table, we are quite a bit ahead (we're not the only ones), and primarily letting the ACG tables catch up. Rather than throwing random encounters at you, I'm going to focus on bringing you to other encounters that could hopefully contribute more to the storyline. I try to keep the storyline from being too contrived. Hope that's ok.
Any other questions?

![]() |

Sounds great! I appreciate the explanation.
Lumo turns back to the pair, suddenly. ”You are a holy man, and you are a stranger. Do you have weapons? Can you fight? It seems every corner holds a new enemy in this place.”. He turns back to the correct direction and points. ”And that’s a corner.”

![]() |

Bon Jon watches the two newcomers and listens to their tale with interest. "Indeed, this place is filled with many dangers. Stay close to us, lest you come to harm. Or, if you feel brave, we can direct you back to the portal through which we entered, which should take you back to Golarion. That may not directly help you - " Bon Jon gestures to the red-skinned one, "- but I suspect that if you are patient there may be some in our lodge there who can assist you to get home."
Just a reminder that since I've already GM-ed this scenario, I will try to take a backseat in the RP or puzzle type portions of the adventure.

![]() |

Alright, going to pick up pace a bit then.
”You are a holy man, and you are a stranger. Do you have weapons? Can you fight? It seems every corner holds a new enemy in this place.”. He turns back to the correct direction and points. ”And that’s a corner.”
"What? No, no, I'm a priest of Sivanah but I'm not cleric. And Lohad's firearm she has there ran out of juice since yesterday. I'm afraid we're not going to be much help in combat."
"Indeed, this place is filled with many dangers... but I suspect that if you are patient there may be some in our lodge there who can assist you to get home."
Pagbean looks trouble and have a quick broken discussion with Lohad. "I guess we best stick with you first until we can find a way out. Thank you."
With two new followers in tow, the Pathfinders continue navigating the tunnels which branch and merge confusingly. In time, you notice the temperature getting cooler which you take initially as a good sign. But in time, the temperature continues to fall, and you start seeing ice rimes on the walls. Thankfully, it is only uncomfortable, not freezing, but you suspect that you have stumbled into the Icy Reservoir instead.
Just as you are about to turn back, a familiar figure appears from round the bend...

![]() |

Kai smiles when he sees your group and quickly rushes over, although he stares curiously at the gnome and Akitonian following you. "The diviners were right. I finally found you. You have done well indeed. Together, we have cleared the surface and the immediate inner regions internally. However, the final entrance into Inner Vault has proved elusive. I'm here to pass you this message, that we need the collective efforts of all the Pathfinders now to scour through these network of tunnels within the asteroid to find the entrance or at least find clues that would help."
"And who are these two companions?" After you shared your encounter with them, he nods in understanding. "I'm headed back to our base camp on this asteroid. Let me bring them and at least send them back to Golarion." The gnome looks pleased on hearing that and he quickly explains to Lohad. Before he leaves though, he pulls out a few vials from a pouch and hands them to you. "Here, looks like you would need this more than we would. May Sivanah avert her gaze from you. Thank you!"
Two potions of cure light wounds, a potion of cure moderate wounds and potion of lesser restoration.

Time: 2:01h after arrival
A gentle breeze bearing down one of the tunnels look hopeful, so you follow it. It eventually brings you to a vast frozen city. Failing enchantments causes stone to crumble and rebuild from moment to moment. A thick sheen of ice and snow covers every surface. A few structures around a temple plaza bear signs of recent repairs and habitation, and the icy, shattered remains of fifteen-foot-tall, willowy humanoids lie scattered across the cobbles. These humanoids are of a race none of you have seen before.
As you travel through the broken city, you spot a shrine with broken doors, beyond which shimmers some kind of ancient magic. Opening the doors presents no difficulty, and the shrine now contains a frozen pool in a cracked basin. As the Pathfinders approach the pool in the basic, an ethereal humanoid figure manifests from the waters, bearing a benign expression. You sense a genuine sense of holiness and peace emanating from it as it beckons you to listen to its wisdom.
However, when it opens its mouth to speak, a shimmer appears in the icy surface reaches out and starts tearing into the spirit. Its face distorts wildly in pain, and the runes around the pool glow white hot as the divine magic begins to fail catastrophically. As the spirit howls in pain, it starts lashing out blindly at whatever and whoever's within reach...
While we don't need to roll initiatives, we will still take this in rounds, with the spirit acting after all of you each round. To help in stabilising the oracle, each of you have two options:
Defusing the Spirit: In order to tame the runaway magical effects here, you need to understand what is happening (Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (religion) or Spellcraft), interpret the inscribed runes around the basin (Linguistics), perform emergency repairs (Disable Device), and calm the spirit oracle (Diplomacy). I need a number of successful checks to help her stabilise. Any skill used more than once raises its DC. In order to perform one of these actions, you must be within 10 feet of the pool, unless you have some ability to perform the action at a distance. Creative use of abilities and spells might also help.
Distracting the Spirit: Those who attempt to defuse the spirit are vulnerable to its attacks, so you can try to distract the spirit to draw the attack to you instead. This can be done by succeeding at a Bluff, Intimidate, combat maneuver check, or deal enough damage each round. If you succeeds and is in reach of the spirit, it will attack you instead of those attempting to defuse the spirit. If more than one manage to distract the spirit, she will get a penalty to her attack. Creative use of abilities and spells might impose more penalties.

Yes, combat options will be as normal, i.e. attack rolls, move and standard, etc. So Genevieve only gets off one attack for this round. Have also moved her and Lumo adjacent to the spirit.
Andy bravely moves in, ducking around the spirit's flailing lashes. Unfortunately, he is repeatedly distracted by the attacks as falls to get a good look at the runes. Tofang moves in and while he can't read the runes, from their pattern, is able to understand how the magic of the pool was put together and he shouts out what he knows. Jivan takes the direct approach from the distance, directly moving and removing runes he senses might help restore its balance. Eowyn and Bon moves closer and beseech the spirit to calm down. She ignores the monk but turns to look briefly at Eowyn as a momentary calm comes over her, before she starts flailing at Tofang!
Immediately, Eowyn sends Genevieve dives in to defend her teammate, but the bird fails to find any purchase on the wispy spirit. Similarly, Lumo's hammer misses and slams into the pool instead. The spirit ignores them and slams her lash across Tofang's chest, knocking the wind out of him.

Tofang is unable to decipher anything more at this time with the remaining runes start shifting in bizarre ways. Andy vaguely recalls some ancient religious rituals that are similar but does not have any firm details. Nonetheless, Jivan continues rearranging the runes from a distance, sometimes with guidance from what Tofang shared earlier, sometimes based on his gut feelings and indeed, that seems to help stabilise the spirit somewhat. Eowyn continues to try talking it down, but the spirit, wracked by terrible pain, can't seem to hear her.
Meanwhile the martial frontliners does their best to distract her from the others. The large roc manages to land both talons on her and Lumo slams his hammer into her ghostly form. In a voice that is both soothing as brook and powerful as a storm, she speaks. "I thank you for your assistance. The divine magic that brought me into being here had started to fail after ... after so long. And the recent planar incursions have only hastened it. It would have torn me apart, and much of this place, should it have been allowed to collapse. But you have stabilised the magic and so I continue to live. Thank you." Despite her gratitude, there is a note of melancholy in her voice.
"I am the Voice of Seven Songs. I have no other name that I can give for that is what I have always been known. Or perhaps that is all I remember. Much has been lost. When Iovo was still whole, I was one of the oracular spirit of the goddess... goddess... No! I have forgotten my goddess' name..." She bows her head in sorrow and shame, and remain silent for a few moments.
Eventually, she looks back up, tears in her eyes but her voice resolute. "But that is my burden to bear. I have forgotten much, but I still see. And see. It is destiny that brought you here just before my destruction. So, please let me know how I can help you. What has brought six brave adventurers to this ... godforsaken piece of rock?"
