She gives the wizard a concerned look, before focusing on the duergar. "Let's finish this quickly!" She takes a deep breath, quelling the burbling anxiety and suffocating fear, draws back her bow and fires on the dwarf with the red armor.

Styrian nods his thanks at the healing and concern. "Well enough now to get back in the fight!"

He grips his weapon and moves back around the corner, stabbing and swinging at the nasty duerger.

Soddy Daisy misses, but nearly causes the duergar to slip again! It seems he's not very used to grease areas, but it gives Kvina the opportunity to leave an arrow in his gut and Nirion the opportunity to pass along a bit more healing. Freshly bolstered, Styrian smashes the duergar into the wall, obtaining his vengeance -- the enemy goes between hammer and wall and drops to the ground, remaining still this time, but for a few twitches of the leg.

Looking on, the downed duergar's fellow only scowls before firing another bolt, aiming for Kvina's shoulder, where it bites into the meat of her armpit.

Nirion returns Styrian to full health with yet another tap of his wand. There's the sound of more movement from outside and the group sees the quivering shaft of an arrow make itself at home in the second duergar's back. Between that and Styrian's carefully thrown axe, the enemy goes down!

"Are you lot alright?" A passing group pauses to peer in. "We just got the message so we're passing it along -- we've found some more districts!"

As he goes on to add to his message, he jumps as though he's been stabbed and yelps before turning to scowl at his offender. There stands Giarra Fullen!

"Oh, it's you!" she seems pleasantly surprised, but quickly notes the state of those here. "Oh, hold on a second." There's a bit of quiet muttering before she goes through some of her many pouches. She finally snags a piece of paper and reads aloud from it. "Pathfinders, great job! We've found the entrances to the Minder's District and the Seer's District!"

She pauses, her eyes skimming the rest of the note before she finally shrugs, crumples it, and shoves it back into one of her many pouches. "Blah, blah, whatever -- we're working on clearing our way through the district so the people ahead of us can keep going. We'll finish up here -- which district are you going to be heading to?"

Kvina gives the woman a thought-filled look, before slowly commenting, "Hmm, It would be nice to see the miner's district and how they lived their lives, but I'm more worried about what might have developed in the Seer's district. I will cast my vote for there. That is if it's okay to go there."

Combat Maps | Map Overview

Another tap of Nirion's wand brings the last of the group's injured back up to full health.

"Alright, then; you'll be heading straight down the path. You'll see some of the other advance agents going there, too. Be careful!" Giarra encourages cheerfully. She waves you off and turns back towards her group.

As the party leaves, the orders she barks can be heard - along with an assortment of cursing. It looks like someone's stumbled into that trap. The round of laughter that follows reveals that the damage was minimal and mostly to the poor man's pride.

It takes about fifteen minutes to get to the Seer's District and Valistar's mage armor fades away during the trip. There are monasteries, academies, and other places of contemplation and learning all around. Hundreds of stalactites extend from the ceiling thirty feet overhead. Dirt and stony debris litter the cave floor, along with discarded scrolls, bits of bone, and a few jawless skulls. Moisture drips from the stalactites into seven natural pools scattered about the chamber, which bears a putrescent odor.

The lighting here is mostly dark, though there's the occasional dim area.

Knowledge (arcana or religion) DC 20:
You recognize that the skulls’ artful etchings suggest that they once belonged to honored seers who passed on.

After the last battle wrapped up, Styrian renews his distortion effect. This whole place is too dangerous to be caught off guard.

Styrian picks up one of the skulls. "These etchings on the skulls suggest they once belonged to honored seers. They should not be left on the floor."

Styrian places the skull somewhere appropriate looking, and does the same for the rest, curiously stopping on the last one to do a 1-minute object reading on it, before also placing it someplace respectful-seeming.

Styrian Meathier:
After a good, solid sixty seconds of examining the object, Styrian finds himself almost out of his own body again. He doesn't understand the words he hears around him, but the knowledge that he's participating in an important ritual is imparted into him. Those around him are painted and all are behaving in sync -- this is definitely some sort of ritual, then...

But then, as though being jolted from one time and memory into another, he watches through hollow eyes as explorers in ancient styles of gear enter the Seer's District. He watches as something terrible befalls them - spherical objects fly at them and then --

When he blinks, he's back to the present, a distinctly uncomfortable feeling settling in his gut.

"Soddy, I believe these skulls were prepared for display, as a point of honor or ceremony. Besides we are unlikely to find a patch of soil to properly plant them."

Styrian shares the unsettling vision he got from the skull, and looks around to see if he can find a clue what these spherical objects were.

As the lights dance about, helping to illuminate the chamber, the party catches sight of a duo of what look like heads floating towards them. One appears to be emitting fire and the other chatters slightly as it bobs.

Its lower jaw rattles as though laughing, but the chattering pauses for a moment when Arthur's arrow chips at it. It's fellows approach too late - Kvina's arrow launches from her bow and punches straight through it's skull, ending its miserable undeath.

Nirion's sling bullet crashes into a distant wall, the sound echoing throughout the cavernous room. Soddy Daisy and Valistar combine their efforts to bring down one of the flaming skulls, though its still evidently a bit charred when it tumbles to the ground. Meanwhile, another of the chattering skulls moves closer to Nirion and opens its jaw to emit a bone-chilling scream.

Although Styrian wasn't startled by the shriek, he bumps the boulder and misses! Arthur, too, is thwarted when the flaming skull proceeds to practice the maneuvers employed by its allies -- the duck and weave. Kvina, however, is righteously aggravated by the cry and very effectively downs yet another of the enemies.

The last of these floating heads forges forward, zooming at Nirion as threateningly as a burning, bodiless head possibly can, before zooming right past him. It circles back around, evidently a bit confused at its complete failure to strike.
