Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

I just had a bad day because my spectacles broke and I have to go collect the cake for the Christmas lunch at my cousins place tomorrow, tonight. Luckily the spectacle guy managed to glue my specs together, else trying to collect the cake and get my replacement spectacles would be cutting it very close. Mind you I'm pretty much blind without my glasses.

Garrosh - for how much you need to move for beatsaber

I think that was my best run so far, finished around 98k points, 432/452 arrows hit - Mortal Kombat - Normal.

Hey, is that you? :D

On a different note Mort, I have just been offered a Singapore symbol of a Merlion ;)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Yep ish me. Also, Christmas lunch today, so I think I'll just chill for the weekend.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

From 24th Dec my time I will be taking a hiatus until 2nd Jan next year since having extra work +assorted family commitments over Christmas has been making me stressed.

I will still hang around to talk shop, but don't expect me to do anything AP related.

I am at my in laws...

I like sitting around idling. Being busy is so not me.
I've been quite busy. Today is kind of my 'day off' before I'm back to errands, family, etc. The short time between Christmas and New Years is mostly free... for now.

I just learnt a new trick today. If you can't get out because it's raining, you can always play youtube videos in your bedroom from your laptop and work out.

Or you can sleep. Sleep sounds nice... kidding. Exercise is important I just stink at it. A matter of will as you say, and yours vastly outmatches mine.

Since I'll be off the Paizo boards from tomorrow until the 2nd January, I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and a safe and peaceful New Year. Enjoy this time with loved ones or to simply relax and unwind. :)

Best wishes! See you in the new year. :)

p.s. I'll check the game board tonight, and, if need be I will make one last post for Laelia before taking my break.

Yoohoo. It's more then 24 h here since 2nd January, it's 2.25 pm on 3rd Jan down here.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Apologies for the silence, but holidays and o/s guests continue to take up much of my time.

During the end of last year, I was considering what to do with the games I'm currently involved in (3 - one as a GM and two as a player).

My "free" time to post is at an all time low. So, I'm making changes to how much time I'll be investing in games here on Paizo. In my other games I'll only be around three days a week (over the week days) and not at all on weekends. The reason for this is I need to devote more time to my well-being, family and work. I'm also feeling serious play-by-post burn out, which isn't productive. I haven't had a break in a very long time and am in serious need of one.

I've decided I can only handle two PbP games with my RL schedule (the one I GM and the other I've been a longtime player in). So, unfortunately, this means I will need to drop out of this game, therefore opening up a space for a player who has more time to dedicate to the game. I think that is only fair at this stage.

Thanks GM Mort and players for giving me an opportunity to play alongside you. I do wish you well in the game and in RL. :) I'd rather Laelia was written out of the game as I'm not good with relinquishing control of my characters in order for them to become would-be NPCs run by the GM or other players. That's just not my thing.

I'm sorry to withdraw from the game, but it's best at this point as a part-time player isn't ideal and that's what I'll be for the remainder of this new year.

Sincere thanks for your understanding and best wishes!

~Ariarh/Laelia.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Yeah fair enough, things like that happen to everyone. I'm fine writing that you never ended up in Strange Aeons since its the Prequel and maybe what you saw of Lowls was enough to turn you off.

Talking about PBP burnouts, been there, done that. So take care of yourself, rest and recharge and we may meet again, or maybe not(as I go for my vacation ;)).

Very well done. Congrats! (Beat saber much? :D)

@Ariarh: Perfectly understandable - I have been progressively reducing the amount of games I get involved with for that same exact reason. Take a breather, and hope to see you around another time.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

No beatsaber after the booth closed. *wails loudly*

It's $15 for 4-7 min of gameplay if I go to the VR arcade. I'm not rich, you know!

Running like hell, yes. Ran 5 km then ran another 1.2 km after with an hour break in between.

Oh and about my odd behaviour? Stuff happened in Ironfang Invasion that pissed me off. So generally moping around atm - the T part of my personality isn't doing me any good.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The sordid details:

Me: It also strikes me as a bit odd that most of the time (except for Grenwold) you start talking to NPCs without actually introducing yourselves, but since some of the NPCs are not exactly normal (or have other things on their mind), if you don't introduce your names, they usually don't bother introducing themselves as well.

Player: It's common screen writing shorthand that greatings and introductions are often assumed to happen off screen. This is done because they often carry no story weight while taking up valuable time. I basically assume the same things in my games so I don't have to spend time role playing intros all the time.

Me: I do not assume that because names are power. So an omission is deliberate because you're trying to indicate you do not want to be contacted or have information found out about you in the future.

Also spells such as sending, scrying base on the familiarity with the creature, of which names play a part.

So there is significance to not introducing your name. Some NPCs may read it as a form of you being guarded and not be as open with you, and similarly will reciprocate without telling you their names either.

As a GM, I am happy to RP as many intros as you want(I have crazy activity on my awake time and this is an RPG) and I could do the happy yak all day, though if you insist I can just do it barebones and get the message across.

Also I don't assume players said or did anything generally unless it's in gameplay thread just to prevent anyone claiming later, no I never said that. You have the right to tell NPCs only what you want them to hear, granted some sneaky ones will try to eavesdrop extras, but that's perception on their end.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The sordid details part 2:

Me :I'm all for telling you as much backstory as possible but when the party does not really seem to be interested in talking to NPCs then I am unable to do so. And when you go through APs, you likely only get a chance to go through it once. It also makes me feel discouraged that when I try to RP the NPCs, I don't get much of a response.

Him: I want to work towards more interaction with the NPCs but I as a player don't have a history with them. I know Hedran does but it's hard to catch up on that. Especially, when we have been treking through the woods so the day to day would mostly routine.

Me: Even day to day travelling you can get RP

Him: I am also working under the assumption that we are also pretty elite Malitia in hostile territory at this point so we are being quite as we travel, keeping the fire low, and talking we needed as to not draw attention how we are behaving. Talking formations, resources, contigencies are all rp that is directly relevant to the situation. People build bonds by achieving things together. For a group of warriors thfighting and the success is rp and would change the bonds of the group spoken or unspoken. Hedran has been healed and had is life saved similarly has saved lives, that changes bonds.

Me: You're not assumed to be stealthing, since the amount of people in mediun armor would draw enough attention from clanking, whether you were even talking or not. I do not impose penalties on people choosing to RP. Have enough stealth, it comes out in a whisper and no one except the people you're talking to hears you anyway. Insufficient stealth and you clank so much that whether you talk or not it makes no difference.

Him: I'm not saying stealthing. I'm saying common sense movement through the bush. That is why it is RP and mechanically stealthing.

Me: Read some David Eddings, Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce and other books. The protagonists may be sneaking somewhere, but it does NOT mean that the entire part while they're sneaking in enemy territory is done entirely without conversation. They see atrocities, they comment on them. They do not just speak amongst themselves just on tactical matters. The books would be much poorer if the protagonists did not speak among themselves.

Or look at LOTR movie. Do Frodo and Samwise sneak into Mordor without saying a single word? No, Frodo spends most of the time complaining about the burden of the one ring(sure, he's warranted that).

Please do not give me excuses that because we're in enemy territory so we cannot speak. It does not fly. I'm telling you that whether you talk or not it does not make a difference to whether you get spotted. Since you make enough noise without talking as it is.

Meh it's a sad world when you say because you're sneaking around for an entire AP that's why you don't talk. I don't penalize for that kind of thing, you know. And I'm certainly not botting conversations, nor giving the advantages for something you never put the effort to do.

|| Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

Well, but at least things got sorted no?

Regarding Running: Yeah, that'll do it - I'm getting back to walking and cycling this week myself ;)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

In a way, but I'm just feeling misanthropic at this point of time. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a permanent thing.

Actually it was supposed to be a 5km, then 2.4 km run, but my BF was too out of condition to even run 2.4 km. At least it was better then the previous week. He got too ambitious and set too fast a pace and ended up flat after 600m. I set the pace last week, a more realistic one. Though it isn't really fast enough for his army 2.4 km test.

A little explanation: All males have to serve compulsory national service for 2 and a half years. After those years they are under reservist scheme, where they are called in once per year to check if they are still in shape. They do a physical fitness test, of which one of the components is the 2.4 km run. The scoring can be found here.

So to achieve 2.4 km in 13 min and 10 secs, you would need to run at around 10.9 km/h. Unfortunately I only run at 9.1km/h, the good news though, is I can keep that pace for like 30+ min or so(enough to get me 5km of distance).

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Walking uphill? Through rough terrain? That's exercise. Cycling - hmm..
I always had trouble going up slope lol. I'd be a pansy and get off and push.

|| Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

Walking will be a good option to start because I am also out of shape, and cycling is something I enjoy.

On a side note, if I tried running 2.4km at the moment... Things would most likely go very wrong :P

oversized hobbit

It is too early in the morning to contemplate exercise :) Well not normally but the household is on holiday time since school isn't back on yet. I have to stop eating cerial... which is a deep sadness since I love cerial. But doctor wants me to give up something that I eat everyday and replace it with something better. So eggs and fruit over honey bunches of oats... :(

Sorry to see you go Ariarh! I hope you find your center.

I like conversations in games, though how well it can be done depends on how many times a person can post. In the morning I manage once in most of my games and then nothing until evening, which I can do a decent back and forth if no one needs me around here.

Cereal. And I keep getting bread in the morning. I don't think my mom would hear of me eating 2 eggs every morning (she'll tell you're too high in cholesterol) even if I wouldn't mind at all.

I also had 2 pears and 2 apples today and my day isn't complete without my fruits.

Also I had cinnamon toast crunch in US and I liked it. I'm quite the sweet tooth actually, I just try to suppress it these days.

oversized hobbit

My kids LOVE cinnamon toast crunch. It disappears in less than a day when it is in the house.

Spell checked for some reason isn't working for me, and I am a bad very bad quiet awful speller. As a programmer I don't have to spell correctly just consistently. (copied and pasted into openoffice to make sure that was spelled right :)

My wife said the same thing, but the doc said eggs were a better choice then my bunches of oats so... we'll see in a couple of months at the next check up I guess.

The Exchange

My BF was suggesting I had yoghurt and smoothies for breakfast, but geez I don't like yoghurt and I always thought smoothies included a lot of sugar.

Yeah breakfast can be problematic. On dieting some days I found myself eating as if I was a lacto vegetarian. Day was nothing but bread, eggs, milk and fruits. Like totally no meat at all. Not that I mind overly much since in college I joined my friend who's a lacto vegetarian for her meals so I'd be lacto vegetarian from dawn to dusk. I think I'd suffer more on fruit and vegetables withdrawal syndrome then life without meats. Though I haven't had as much vegetables as I've liked recently, but again I eat a lot of fruits.

Life without meats is still fine as long as I have eggs and milk.

For a change of breakfast you might want to get some cheese, tuna in brine, or smoked salmon. Not sure if you have chickpeas, but boiled chickpeas are pretty good too.

|| Loot List || Male half-orc Bloodrager 1 / Inquisitor 6 / Fighter 1 <> AC: 20 // HP: 64/64

Honestly, I don't really think one needs to stop eating this or that - I actually find it counter-productive negating yourself something you like.

Now excess... That is a whole thing altogether... Barring specific food (or other) allergies or intolerance, I am a firm believer one can eat from everything, as long as it is done in moderation and balanced with a healthy lifestyle.

Sometimes that balance is difficult to find (balanced meals and a healthy lifestyle can vary from one person to the other), but I do think therein lies the secret.

oversized hobbit

I tend to agree that dieting in general doesn't work in the long term. Denying yourself the things you like is a recipe to fall off the wagon.

I'm in a different position in that I'm trying to gain weight so I'm actively trying to consume 3k+ calories per day but by eating clean, no sugars, sweets, snacks, or chocolate. Luckily I don't have a sweet tooth anyway but the amount of chicken and fish I eat would make a caveman blush.

On the plus side I did get a 400lb (182.5kg) deadlift yesterday. I currently weigh 172lbs (78kg) so I was thrilled with that.

Whatever your goals though, it really is all about nutrition, consistency and getting enough rest.

oversized hobbit

400lbs! Lifting more than twice your own weight! Very good sir.

Cereal is.. MEH?!?!? ... ?!?!? ... treasure of all the things we agree one, cereal is apparently our dividing point. <shakes his head sadly> :)

I have not been told I need to lose weight or that I need to exercise, but I assume that is the nurse tech deciding to pick her battles. I just have to change some of my eating habits. Going with salads twice a week to replace piles of meat on bread, and eggs/fruit 5 days a week over lovely bowls of bunches of oats.

A managable starting point.

The Exchange

Sorry I su*k at weights^^ I put on piddly 7.7 lb weights on each side of the barbells then try to lift them^^ Also, I have a left shoulder issue so I try not to over do it.

On a more serious note:

To lose weight, the simple equation is output >input. If you have a good metabolism, you have greater output, so part of the battle is won. For the less fortunate of us who don't, basically you need to cut down on your input.

You can't spend the whole day exercising since that is unrealistic - we've all got work, other commitments etc. Well unless you're on a hiking vacation (which I did before, lost 4.4 lbs. I was so happy =D).

2,000 calories per day does NOT work for me. I am a small bit, I need only about 1100+,according to those fancy fat testing machines. I'm also 31.7% fat, so yeah...theres quite some to be said about that.

Guys have the advantage as they build muscles more easily because of hormones, and muscles increase your calorie burn, so you can get away with eating more.

I am also very disciplined so I don't really have many issues cutting stuff out of my life. I know I've got a job to do(lose weight) and I'm going to do it.

The Exchange

Complain about the new boards here!

If you don't have a sweet tooth, lucky you since you have nothing you need to suppress. If you're trying to gain muscles, the science of it is you have to lift a lot of weights and eat a lot of protein, which seems you're doing it pretty much right, Rayland.

I know I have been losing some muscle mass with the fats(which is bad) but I think it's due to the nature of my exercise(mainly cardio and not resistance). I might need to try to get in more weight training (I have issues making myself do that) even though I don't really like it and eating more proteins(a bit problematic).

Resistance training does not burn as much calories as cardio workouts, so if you wanted to lose weight cardio is easier to rack up calorie burn. A happy little jog burns about 200 calories in half an hour. Aerobic workouts have potential to burn 500-700 per hour(probably 500 for me since I'm small).

Problem about consuming proteins is they come along with fats pretty often. Eggs and milk are a good source of protein that don't contain too much fat. However if you buy a chicken drumstick off the supermarket, the skin is fats. But I hate wasting food, so if I bought a chicken drumstick, I'd eat the skin as well. Waste not, want not, I figure I can burn up those extra calories up somehow. Besides to me I find chicken beast bland and dry.

Basically how the calories stuff works is that the human body requires a certain amount of nutrients. Each time you eat empty calories(sweets, chocolates etc) you're using that part of that calorie budget that could be better spent on putting more nutrients into yourself.

I'm actually trying to see where to put the end point. Technically since everything is in healthy range I could call it a day.

But probably I'll stop at 110 lbs. Then I'll still eat in a healthy fashion but won't be going for multiple gym classes a day. Again going to the gym is healthier on your pocket then spending lunch time shopping...

What cereal do you eat, John? I'm not fond of the sweet ones, and I find cereal to be too expensive for what I get out of it. I'll occasionally have some Just Right, but most of the time I end up skipping breakfast. If you drink multiple cups of coffee, you don't feel hungry! Hahahahahaaaa.....
