Work never truly slows down for us. There is always code to be written. But it is also a mature product so rarely does it get insane, since sales finally stopped selling things we've never even thought of.

Yep, I completely agree. In fact, over time I think everyone should spend some time in every other department in their respective companies, and better understand the issues different areas of the business have to face.

Hmm... the managers at least is a good idea. If I sent my people into sales for a month, I'd have a lot less people... and we might have fewer customers :)

I've been to demos, which means I guess I've done that. I was truly there to answer questions if the sales person didn't know the answer. Happily they stopped requesting that years ago. I think I was too honest, Nope we can't do that, even if I'd add, but we Could.

Sales people in development... hmm... well they could attend the meetings where we take the customer request and decide how to implement it, at least in user interface parts.

I think it's better to try to do the job. So you better get what is entailed. Staring only gives you so much.

That would be great, but sometimes there isn't much room to 'try' and do the job - yet being present while a colleague carries it out will make you aware of the issues they face, perhaps making one more tolerant, cooperative, etc, toward them.

And what I mean is stuff along the lines of 'this week A from department B will spend his day with C from department D, get to know a bit more of what it is they do every day, challenges they face, etc' and not necessarily company wide decisions such as 'from now on all development meetings will have sales present'.

Never, I say, say that you are chilling out at work. Today I became a superstar with everyone and their dog looking for me ><

And my desk is in a mess since I'm in the middle of archiving documents.

And I still owe external lawyers some document tracking though I don't think it is something I can do, as the document trail is not with me. A rough search of the document trail yields nothing.

Let me get to work/somewhere more conducive then I'll move you lot to how the locals do their funeral.

It is curious you would say that regarding 'chilling' at work - whenever I think I will have a calmer or 'shorter' week (like due to a bank holiday or vacations), something always happens to transform it into a crazy busy one...

Tomorrow morning I'm running then headed to my cousins wedding lunch. Likely to get sloshed so no posts till late night.

Sorry for my lack of posting this weekend.

Yesterday in particular was a day from Hell and late last night (12.50am) someone broke into our front yard and tried to break into my son's car (which he parks inside the gate/fence on the drive way). I have spent the better half of my morning making flyers for the neighbours warning them (we caught the guy's action on our security cam - he came right up to the front door). And, this morning the police came to the house and took a statement and a copy of the security footage. I'm exhausted as I think I slept about 2.5 hours last night. I will post soon - need to get some actual paid work done first/now.

That is HORRIBLE Laelia. You and your family are safe, which is more important than anything. work and sleep are also more important than posting. Goodness. I am glad you have good security.

Can that guy be caught for trespass and attempted theft? I'd probably have just gone to everyone's house and knocked on their door telling them, but no flyers.

Catch him! Put him into jail so he doesn't bother anyone else!

And, yes, everyone is okay - I took a fright when the security cam sent me a text message and I looked through the camera and saw someone walking around my yard and staring up at me (through the cam) from the front door. The males in my household were of course all sound asleep, so I screamed blue murder at the guy in my yard (through the cam speaker) who proceeded to bolt and then woke the males who checked everything outside and then drove around the streets for 45 mins to see if they could spot him. Unfortunately, he disappeared into the darkness. The police are going to do a drive by tonight in case he comes back to stalk us or the other residents in my street. He's probably a junkie thinking he'd find something to sell in my son's car .. or he just wanted to steal it (it's a hotted up car and generally garners attention from young men my son's age). I hope he's caught (silly would-be thief touched the pillar by the front door and the small gate leading into our yard).

I put the flyer in all the mail boxes that I could as I didn't have time to talk to every neighbour (I did talk to one face to face, however as she was out mowing the lawn this morning).

We're installing additional sensor lights and security cameras (in the dark zones) in the front yard after work today... Honestly, our house is going to be so lit up if someone enters the yard, that it'll seem like we're signalling the alien mothership. ;)

Has this happened before?

No, not that we're aware of. We get the random dog, cat or bug set off the security cameras in front. This is a first for a person stalking the yard in the dark (he kept to the fringes so he wouldn't set off the light sensors, so he must have been staking out the street before hitting our yard as he knew how to bypass our light system).

My son's only recently changed his car - new with all the bells and whistles. It's probably what drew this intruder into the yard (he looked to be in his late teens, early 20's from the security footage).

Holy crap Laelia, I can't imagine what that must feel like - simply having someone inside your yard like that... Good to know you are all safe, and I hope they catch the guy - he needs a lesson.

Couple years back, my parent's neighbors had a similar situation, where a guy simply jumped the fence, went inside and stole the radio from the car parked inside, and locked. I was amazed at the audacity, and my conviction to have a big dog was doubly reinforced.

I share a dumb story that will make sense part-way through.

Perhaps a year ago, my girlfriend and I were parked just outside my driveway very late at night. The car was still running and the engine was on, and we were uhhh rather preoccupied. All of a sudden we get a knock on the window, which scares us to death. It's the neighbour, who's carrying a stick in his off-hand and a flashlight in his main hand. His posture didn't look threatening, and though I didn't know him, we hesitantly rolled down the window a crack. He asked who we were, and told us that his house had been robbed earlier that day (I did not know about this, for I was uhhh rather preoccupied). He couldn't sleep, so he had been spending the night watching the live security footage around his house, just in case the burglar(s) came back. He wished us goodnight and went back home.
We were no longer preoccupied. I got out of the car, kissed my girlfriend goodnight, and went home myself.

I've never been robbed, but that event did give me an inkling of what goes through people's heads after the break-in. Hope you guys are feeling safe and are sleeping as normal.

I am so glad I live in sunny, safe Singapore, where this kind of thing is super rare.

Also leaving your car engine on while preoccupied can be dangerous.

I guess a rather silly thing I did yesterday was walk down Mount Faber with nothing but a phone for light, after the sun had gone down, alone, yesterday. I was singing Bring me to Life by Evanescence all the way down, firstly to distract myself from feeling alone in the forest, secondly to let animals or whatever know I'm there so I don't get surprised. I usually don't mind animals, but not at night, please. I get twitchy.

Not a great way to end preoccupation Treasure.

Worst at this place has been teenagers stealing from cars left unlocked. We always lock ours so didn't have the problem. In the last city I lived in, I got a brick through the window once to steal the change in the cupholder. Probably less than a dollar.

Mount Faber looks pretty neat, Mort. And though a little scary it is nice they let you wander it at night. I grew up in a rural town, so plenty of forests to wander around.

One thing I’ll say is NPCs in my world generally will not help the party in combat unless necessary. I do this because there was one PBP game I was in we had a DMPC stealing the show, and I didn’t like it. Do onto others like you want done onto you, you know. And it's your party, guys!

Of course, there are exceptions and NPCs can sometimes follow the party adventuring (like if they have motivation to do so from their backstory/party did them a great favour). Depending on the alignment of the NPCs in question, they’ll either help themselves to the loot, or you’ll need to equip them yourself (mostly applies to good aligned, and lawfully aligned NPCs, since they don’t feel that they should take the party loot unless given permission to).

Sorry for being so late, but morning was pretty hectic since I woke up early to try to catch 30 mins of running in the gym before work. The running hasn’t been going very well lately.

Yesterday I went to watch into the Spiderverse with my BF. I think it’s a cool coming of age story, that sometimes you need to give your kids some space to breathe as parents and not force your expectations on them, and for kids...sometimes the way forward is to be yourself. Not what people want/expect you to be.

Travelling is all done, with massive delays on the flight though... Unfortunately I just realized my office now blocks access to the Paizo site. Bah...

About winter flights in Europe... Delays are to be expected due to snow.

Was on my phone before - now I.... Found a way to access the site again :P

And the delay we got was due to fog banks - made the trip way more tiring than it should be.

Sorry for my lack of posting over the past day or two - too much work in my RL and not enough energy or time for gaming. The festive season is always stressful for me as I have so much on my plate. I’ll try to post as soon as I’m able.
