Knowing it is of no use to enter the battle yet, Ungeborchen looks from the back and tries to discern shamans or witch-doctors among the barbarian horde!

Four shots from Vargas, Rubius, and two of the recruits take the same orc, peppering him with holes, blood streaming towards the ground. The orc grunted, roared, seemed ready to shrug the blows off and move forward, then fell to the ground, dead.

We are at Kragg before the javelin orcs, then Thurgromm for the other orcs.

Forming an axe, Kragg sent it spinning towards another orc. He threw it with vengeance burning in his heart...and more than a little fear as the horde got ever nearer. The orcs were taking everything that the dwarves could throw at them and were just getting closer and closer. Kragg realized that there was no way to stop them from reaching the walls.

The javelin wielding orcs advance again, somewhat slowed by the thickest parts of the woods between you and them, but getting dangerously near all the still.

Khazuk gets high into the air, looking for the leader of this section of orcs. The bird's eyes don't fail her, though her tiny heart nearly does-- she pinpoints the tactical leader of the orcs!

A hearty looking, bare chested orc with a mean smile growls in their guttural tongue of the plateau orcs for them to charge. What sets the bird's head spinning though, are the number of orcs yet to emerge from hiding and take the field against them- outnumbered already nearly 3 to 1 as they were, there were nearly twice again as many orcs ready to pour onto the battlefield against them, should their resolve hold!

Kragg and his recruit both strike a fresh orc, leaving it bloodied, but alive for now.

Yeah, I agree, this combat is hectic enough as it is without confusion on initiative order. Going forward we will have the entire party go before the orcs at the start of each round.

The orcs on the field move forward again, they are moving closer and closer to the walls, and now you've realized there will be more behind them yet to come.

THurgrom's shot finishes another bow wielding orc, then Durnim and Agrim drop another with only two arrows, catching him in the neck and the heart, and only four of what appeared like the most immediate threats remain. They fire!

At Durnim from Orc B9:

Kragg- the orc leader is still far enough back/under cover that you cannot get a clean shot off at him. Redirecting your shot to destroy an orc with much vengeance.

Only one bow wielding orc remains on the field, and he fires at the wounded dwarf, now within close range.

You begin to feel some success, taking out several orcs simultaneously, but the enormity of the situation becomes clear as the javelin orcs close to within range for next round-- and the next wave of orcs appears on the horizon.

The orcs appear to be unaware of the frog, so it can take a surprise attack last round when they moved up on it.

Seeing that the ladders were still relatively distant took a further shot with the crossbow, looking at taking out those with javelins.

Again and again the dwarves rained vengeance upon the orc horde. Kragg watched as the nearby javelin wielding orcs were filled with crossbow bolts. Kragg, though, only had eyes for one orc. Their leader! Search as he might though, he couldn’t get a clear shot. The villain was hiding! Heart filled with rage, he continued firing at the nearest orcs.

The frog lashes out with its tongue, trying to drag an orc into the water. Unfortunately, the large amphibian gets far too excited and its tongue misses spectacularly!

Rubius grunts in mild frustration mixed with amusement and rallies his recruit again. "That's it, Olaf! Keep reloading and firing. Make 'em count!!"

Vargas shot connects with the orc's shield, and he realizes the javelin wielding orcs will be tougher to hit because of the large wood and hide shields they cover their faces with.

Kragg and the dwarf at his side combined to end another orc, precision making quick work of the enemy vanguard.

Thurgomm and his recruit have worse luck, finding the javelin orc's shield again-- three arrows/bolts now lay lodged in it and the creature laughs, completely unaware of the danger lurking just beside him in the form of the frog!

The other shots go wide, and the orcs take their turn, advancing and those within range throwing javelins.

Kragg saw that the orc leader which Khazuk has spotted had finally shown himself. Orcs were well known to break when their leadership died. Forming an axe, he hurled it at the greenskin Leader.

Thurgrom blood begins to boil as the orc raiders get every closer. As much as he believes he's a better in the thick of battle, it would be foolish to lose the ranged advantage, so the mynrughdaer lets another arrow fly at J2.

Another volley of crossbows and stone rained down from the walls. With precision the projectiles found their marks in the front rank of orcs. If the orcs were going to make it to the walls then they would pay in blood for each step they took.

Vargas nodded with dark satisfaction at the tumult the grease had wrought upon the charging foes. He prepared a second casting to cover the other large patch of ground just left where more orcs prepared their ladders. Soon enough orcs would be upon them, but for now, delays made them pay in blood.

Rubius and a recruit strike at one of the Javelin orcs (J8), wounding him, but leaving him standing still. Tawny moves forward, and at Rubius' urging manages to tip the oil bucket on the left hand side, catching three orcs in it's path!

The first two waves of orcs barely upon you, a horn sounds, and the final wave of orcs assaulting the western ramparts appears- another score plus, carrying crudely carved battering rams. With them, their brutish field commander, riding a dire wolf finally comes into range and sight of your weapons. The orc stares, seemingly straight into your eyes, into your souls, his face scarred deeply, and cover in war paint, his eyes glowing red. He roars beastially, "Attack! For Drexiesh! For the Martyr! For the plateau! Tonight we drink dwarf blood!"

Orc L9 attempts another reflex save to put himself out, dropping to the ground for +2:

For a moment it looked like they would keep the orcs off the walls, but in the distance the shouts of the orc leader could be heard. Kragg had been wrong about spotting their chieftain before. The actual leader was too far away and in too much cover to take a shot...and he had brought battering rams! This wasn’t good. If they were going to survive they’d need to drive back this first wave.
